It's that time of year again! 2007-04-27 04:04:00 We've been running out just about every night this week, with little or no time after school to get homework done and eat dinner. Yep - it's baseball season and little league is well under way.
Tomorrow Devon has his very first game. We have to be at the ballpark at 4:30 ready to go. What a feat that will be considering the bus drops them off at 4:00! Just enough time to grab a drink, change
Walking, walking, walking 2007-04-26 05:26:00 I got a call from Devon's teacher again. This time, he hasn't turned in an assignment due last week. She kept asking him about it, and his answer was always "I don't know!" Each day he had to walk 5 laps at recess. Each afternoon he came home all smiles, never mentioning his homework or his walking punishment. Once the teacher realized this wasn't working after 5 straight days of walking
McRaw Burgers 2007-04-25 15:21:00 Last night we were busy with Devon's practice, a PTA meeting and the school Spring bookfair, so dinner was a last minute decision to run by McDonald's and grab a fast burger. Apparently, quite a few others had the same idea, and it was busy for a midweek evening in Smalltown America.
We ordered our food, and it slowly began to be placed on our tray. We sorted out who got what, and we began Read more:Burgers
Excitement in the Country 2007-04-24 05:17:00 Well, we had our share of fun today. First off, we found a snake in our yard this morning. I am scared to death of snakes, and Jay isn't too fond of them, either. He was going to scoop the snake up and put it back in the field, when it lifted its head and open his mouth hissing at him. Then it ran under some rocks to hide. After digging him out with a piece of wood, the snake got really Read more:Excitement

You're WHAT doesn't work? 2007-04-30 14:28:00 Yesterday while I was cooking dinner, I heard Devon come out of the bedroom muttering to himself. Something was upsetting him, and I put everything down to see what was wrong. There he stood, tears in his eyes, face all distraught as he looked at me with the big sad eyes.
"My dick stopped working!" he wailed.
Biting my lip so I didn't burst out laughing, I knew what he meant to say, and I
It looks like that cloud right there! 2007-05-02 04:02:00 More tornado warnings tonight. Thankfully, this time Jay was home and was able to judge the sky. He was pointing out the clouds and the way they moved and said that there were no clouds that looked dangerous. He then tried explaining what to look for, but struggled with his words. I came back into the house and he called me back outside.
"See that cloud right there? That's what I was
Where the hell is spring? 2007-05-01 14:59:00 The weather has been sucking - one nice day surrounded by rain and wind and chilly temperatures. The trees still have no leaves on them. The only tell tale sign that spring has sprung is the green grass, but we also had that back in November. WTF? I even went and sorted through the boys' clothes weeding out the wintery stuff and now I am left wondering if I should have just yet. UGH!

T-Ball Players are just Awesome! 2007-05-04 03:15:00 I absolutely love to watch t-ball teams practice. It is such a blast to see such young kids take on baseball. I really need to bring my video camera one day because that first prize funniest video might be there.
Tonight Jay asked the runner on first where she is headed when the next batter hit the ball. "To second grade!" she happily exclaimed.
He has five year old twin girls on his team. Read more:Players
Jumping in Head First 2007-05-08 04:15:00 I've been assigned my first duty as PTA President - organizing the fall fundraiser. This should be a lot of fun, though, because thankfully, the kids don't have to sell ANYTHING anymore. No more stupid wrapping paper or expensive candles. All fundraisers have to have the healthy theme.
Jay and I have been tossing around the idea of a Bowl-a-thon. It will be fun, and most of the money Read more:Jumping

What's your style? 2007-05-07 03:08:00 I took Zachary out to buy him some new clothes this weekend because the child is just growing like a weed. All of his shorts were size 8, and now he is in a 12! He certainly grew over the last year.
I let him browse the items and he chose some shorts and shirts to make his summer wardrobe. The shorts are all what he calls "pocket shorts" - long, baggy, and lots of pockets everywhere. He did
A Little Catfish, Anyone? 2007-05-06 15:51:00 A few days ago I was watching the fish swim around in their tank, and I noticed that the catfish was missing. I asked Jay if it died and he took it out of the tank. He didn't. We shook some of the rock hideaways but still no catfish. Not a sign of him. Weird.
I thought that perhaps some of the other fish ate him. It makes sense, huh? Not according to the guy in the fish store. He said Read more:Anyone
"I Got Hit on Yesterday" 2007-05-09 17:51:00 No, not me. My fourth grader. Those were the words he said to me while I was happily making dinner that sent a chill up my spine. When asked to elaborate, he refused.
I did get out of him that "hitting on" someone requires words and not actions. Nice words. Words that he said back. Oh my, my little boy is growing up! He is admitting to having a girlfriend now!
I am so not ready for the Read more:Yesterday
Happy Mother's Day! 2007-05-13 19:21:00 Jay's mother came out for a visit this week. It was great to see her - been a long time. She left this morning to fly home, and Jay drove her to the airport in Pittsburgh, which is a two hour drive. I went back to bed after she left.
All of a sudden, my bedroom door burst open and three little voices screamed out "Happy

The Countdown is On 2007-05-16 18:44:00 School is almost out, we're getting ready to hit the race track and summer vacation is right around the corner. I can't wait until those lazy days of summer.
We've been keeping an eye on the resort here, and there is so much to do over the summer months. We knew about the big stuff - the lakes and beaches, the pools, the boat rentals and golf courses. What we didn't know are the various Read more:Countdown
Happy Memorial Day!! 2007-05-28 20:27:00 Today is the day to remember all of those who have served our country, and especially those who have lost their lives doing so. HappyMemorial
Day to all of our armed forces - past, current and present, and to their families!
We're winding down the school year now with 8 more school days to go before we are completely done. I am looking forward to summer and not having a whole lot to do. The
Get Ready for it! 2007-06-07 16:58:00 Another message board owned by Jay. This time, it will be a locally based board - GoTreasureLake.com. I had to look it over before he purchased the domain, because we don't want anything that happens when you look at gotahoe.com - pretty bad!
Anyway, look for the website to be coming soon. I'll let you all know when it is launched and set. For now, we have a lot of working on it to do.
New Hairstyles for the Boys 2007-06-05 09:48:00 With summer vacation coming up in just a few days, it's time for the boys to get their annual summer, almost buzzed off haircuts. Nicholas begged for a mohawk. Apparently, it's the rage with the elementary crowd this year. Here he is sporting his new do: Read more:Hairstyles
Tee-ball Funnies 2007-06-08 20:58:00 I have to laugh at the tee-ball here. Some of the coaches take it so seriously, marking down the plays and keeping track of scoring (even though we aren't supposed to keep score.) We've seen coaches yelling at their players and all kinds of odd things. People, these kids are 5 years old! One of our boys peed his pants as he was squatting down playing the position of catcher! He didn't run to Read more:Funnies
Double digits! 2007-06-13 21:39:00 Tomorrow, Zachary turns 10. I can't believe that he is going into the double digit stage! My little guy is definitely growing up!
My parents are coming to surprise him. He has no clue, nor does he know that they are bringing him what he really wanted for his birthday - a basketball hoop for the driveway. He is going to be psyched!
They are having another carnival here this weekend and
The Pocono 500 Rain Festival 2007-06-11 21:18:00 We experienced our very first live Nascar race this past weekend, and everyone had a great time. Of course, the race was almost three hours delayed because of rain, and then another rain storm sent the red flag out, stopping the race only halfway through, so most of the day was spent drying out and tailgating.
Nicholas stood on the bleacher seats waving his #24 hat in the air and screaming for Read more:Festival
The Lazy Days of Summer 2007-06-20 15:47:00 The kids have been driving me bonkers. I looked forward to no schedules this summer, but I didn't expect the kids to claim they are bored so early. So, we did what any half-crazed from hearing "I'm bored!" all day parents would do - we set up the bouncy bounce.
Now, the screams of joy mixed with agony as they collide heads is probably heard all throughout the lake. Nicholas came out of it Read more:Summer
Time is Flying 2007-06-19 19:50:00 My parents came for a visit this weekend and left this morning. It was great to see them. I miss having them around all of the time. We had some laughs, went out and saw the town and hung out and BS'd a bit. They get tired a lot more easily now, and staying up until all hours is, apparently, a thing of the past. They went to bed rather early each night.
They brought Zachary a new basketball Read more:Flying
It's over, kaput, done! 2007-06-22 20:14:00 Teeball has been interesting this year, but turning in the bats and helmets never made me feel so free. It seems as if we have been tied to teeball this year, and I am glad that it finally ended.
Last night we had our annual end of season party at our house, and all of the kids had a great time. Some even cried when it was time to leave. Others asked when they can come back over. We have
The boys have been spending a lot of time playing ... 2007-06-27 13:16:00 The boys have been spending a lot of time playing outdoors. Behind the house, we have a field that the neighbors have mowed trails through. They are having a great time with the power wheels, driving through the trails. Today, they each packed a backpack and decided to go "hiking" in the field. They took Marsha with them. She had so much fun! I made sure Zachary took out a bowl of water for
And they're off... 2007-06-26 16:03:00 The boys really enjoyed their first swim lesson. I was proud of them for facing their water fears and getting into the pool. Although Devon was scared to death, he did it and said he enjoyed it. Nicholas was laughing the entire time. Hopefully by the end of the six weeks, both boys will be more comfortable in the water.
Here is a picture of Nicholas swimming with the aid of his instructor.
Another Day, Another Dollar ... 2007-06-27 21:26:00 Dollar spent on food, that is. The boys spend almost all day eating. I clean the kitchen at least seven times today and there are still dishes piled up in the sink. Calgone, take me away! I'm overrun by frigging dirty dishes and hungry boys!
The boys are extremely active. When I hear about the overweight problem in America's children I just don't get it. My guys are bouncing off the walls Read more:Dollar
Happy 4th of July! 2007-07-04 21:03:00 This has been a heck of a holiday, beginning with our annual 4th of July party last weekend and lasting through today. We had a great time at our party, and we met several locals from the town message board here. Putting some faces to names was a great thing, and I hope everyone had a fun time.
Last night we blew off some fireworks, and our neighbors down the street came over to see. We then Read more:Happy
Only in my house 2007-07-12 20:51:00 The kids are getting ready for their trip to NY to spend a week with my parents. Jay and I are trying hard to conceal our glee at the prospect of having the house to ourselves for a whole week. So, we have the kids packed and ready and they went outside to play for a little bit.
We called them inside to get ready for bed, and Devon, who is quite excited for his trip, came running into the
We're Back! 2007-07-23 08:29:00 The kids spent a week at my parents' house and we went and picked them up this weekend. All in all it seemed to go pretty well, except that the boys had basically NO RULES for the entire week. They are happy to be home, though, and I am happy to have them home. How quiet a kidless house is, even with two dogs running around.
It was GREAT to be back in NY even for such a short amount of time.
