It's Been One Of Those Weeks 2007-04-15 01:58:00 Have you ever had a week where you just know that you have sucked as a parent? Where you kept telling yourself that you really should be doing this or that with the kids but just can’t seem to make yourself actually do it? No? You are such liar! You know you have! This past week was my bad parent week. I can’t say it’s my only bad parent week ever but it’s one of the ones that I actually feel bad for. Unfortunately (for everyone else in my house) it happened to coincide with that time of the month when we women became even bigger raging hormonal bitches than usual. Yeah, fun fun fun.As a bad parent I spent most of the week obsessing over this stupid blog and what I was doing with it instead of partaking in the heathens’ lives. Crap like- Was the blog design okay? Should I sign up for this writing job or that one? Was I screwing up the blog with this “sponsored post” shit? Was what I just wrote funny? Why is this blog called Life With Heathens when I never talk about the l Read more:Weeks
Ohhhhhhh Shinyyyyyyyyyy 2007-04-16 22:18:00 Lookie what SlackerMommy went and did...Awwwwwww. I bet you Best Blog About Stuff is another name for "People Who Go All ADD On Their Blogs". If so then since Slacker there is in the same category she's definately my kind of people! hehe. Seriously though, what a fun category to be in! LMAO. Thank you girlie! Now I have a shiny pretty button for my blog (and I voted for you too btw). While I'm talking about shiny, the post I promised is about A.D.D. which is also known around our house as "Shiny Object Syndrome" (coined by Hubby Guy). I have it, my daughter has it, and I think one of the cats does too but I'm not taking the blame for that one! Unfortunately it seems that MEN2a and cancer were not the only things I passed on to at least one of my children. It couldn't just stay at they got their good looks from me could it? Nooooooo. ;)So, if you do a search on the web for ADD or ADHD you will mostly find articles and blogs on children or by their parents talking about what life with
Sponsored Post- Bloggerwave 2007-04-16 04:47:00 As I’m sure you’ve noticed lately, I’ve been checking out some of the “paid for blogging” offers here and there online. The most recent company I’ve come across is Bloggerwave. They are a new company looking for bloggers of all calibers to be paid for writing posts. So far I'm it looks interesting so I can't wait to see what all they have to offer. What I do like about them already is that they actually discourage you from taking the opportunities you know nothing about. They prefer everyone to write about what they know so that Bloggerwave, their advertisers, AND their bloggers are all happy. Anyone who has been writing sponsored posts for some of the other places knows that this is not always the case. Sometimes you are asked to write about things you know nothing about which makes it hard to do a good job.So far they only have two opportunities so once you've done one or both of them you're going to have to wait but hey, it's a start. Approval is fairly easy and quic
Rotten Little Children! 2007-04-21 00:36:00 Let me just set the scene for you. It’s almost dinner time and Mom is washing her hands in the kitchen sink before preparing the food. Nothing abnormal about that since she always TRIES to be a good Mommy and teach hygiene even to three little heathens.Suddenly, the youngest child notices three new “booboos” on Mommy’s fingers. For this story's sake let's just say the Mommy is such a clutz that she can't remember how she even got two of them. The older two of Mommy's children come over to the sink to look with youngest child. It's just some cuts, no big deal and Mom says as much. What do you think comes next? Genuine concern from her three children? Two teenagers lovingly telling mom that they know cutting onions will make those cuts burn so please, let them make dinner? Someone who can actually reach the bandaids without climbing onto the toilet, then the sink, and then balancing to reach the medicine cabinet offering to fetch a few for Mom?Yeah right! I don’t call them Read more:Rotten

America, Meet Mr. Victor Lysakov 2007-04-19 19:04:00 I am truly honored to have the chance to write about Russian Artist Victor
Lysakov today. If you are an art lover like I am then I'm sure you already know who he is. If not then this is your chance to discover his artwork for yourself.Mr. Lysakov’s talent has won him international acclaim as one of “The Best European Artists,” of our time. Each of his modern expressionist paintings tells a story sharing with us as viewers an inspired look into his artist's muse. One simply has to look through his online gallery to see each work's depth and use of vibrant color. Combined with the uniqueness of his work, it is easy to understand why Victor Lysakov is so well-loved.Whereas some artists do not find their calling until later in life, Mr. Lysakov knew from the age of six that he was destined for art. There is no tragic life long starving artist story here though. His life even when focused outside his artistic talent is inspiring and encouraging to others. In my opinion, a true test Read more:America
Sponsored Post- JustSayHi.Com 2007-04-19 05:50:00 A married woman writing about a free internet dating site. I know, a little odd but I do have a few single friends so I figured I would still check out JustSayHi.Com and let them know what I think. A married gal still has to watch out for her single girlies right? So, what I found while perusing JustSayHi is that their site actually is free. It’s not a free trial, or free sections, and no requests for credit card information. It looks like the whole thing really is free! Wow, I don’t know much but I do know that most of the other dating sites won’t give much of anything for free. One of the first things you notice on the JustSayHi site are the pictures and mini profiles of singles from all over the U.S. Right there, on the front page! Not only that but you can go through all 50 pages of mini profiles, click on the ones that interest you, and then read their full profile! That’s pretty straight forward and to the point which I can definitely appreciate when I think back on my own
If I Get The Choice... 2006-05-28 20:05:00 to sit it out or dance...it's time to dance. Also known as it's time for me to get off my dead ass and start living my life. I'm finally giving myself the final okay to really live. After a recent doctor's appointment and my test results, I know that I'm never going to get better. It honestly all goes downhill from here BUT that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the ride! At worst I have 3 years left to live. At best I have around 20. Personally, I'm begging for 15 and considering anything over that a gift. Anything less will just leave me one pissed off dead person so the Fates are warned. :) Starting today I am going to live as if any day could be the last.I'm going to love deeper, speak sweeter, and laugh more. I now accept that the chronic pain will never go away. I now accept that the cancer will one day be worse but I don't accept not really living my life. When I look back over my last 31 years there are more regrets than good memories and I just can't do that to myself or my Read more:Choice
Kelly Says I Gotta Get Goals! 2007-04-24 07:50:00 A few weeks ago Kelly at kellymentology tagged me for a "Gotta
Get Goals
" meme. Here are the official rules and it has taken me this long to post because I truly put a lot of thought into this. In the end though, I’m afraid I wasn’t able to do it justice. The rules state that you list and write about the top goals that you have to achieve so you can truly say you have achieved your wildest dreams. Your best, most exclusive, and over-the-top goals.I went through the long list of goals I have and realized that only two of them meet that criteria. All of my goals save those two are minor goals. When I was diagnosed all the goals I had set for myself just didn’t seem important anymore. Being a better writer, visiting Italy, and things like that just no longer mattered. So I’m afraid I only have two simple “gotta’ get” goals to share with you and I hope that is okay. Thank you Kelly for tagging me because it made me do a lot of thinking and that is how I realized that it all boi

That's One Thousand Three Hundred! Yes, I blocked my own IP so no it's not me visiting all the time. Smartasses!I have no clue why most of you were here (because I'm really not all that funny. It was the Rasta dog collars wasn't it?) but it's really cool. I'm afraid this time the French didn't contribute but Iraq, the UAE, Italy, Japan, China, Germany, Indonesia, and Ireland did. Sweet Sixteen For WHO? 2007-04-27 00:58:00 I'm not thinking there's anything sweet about it! It sucks plain and simple! My oldest child is 16 years old as of 2:41pm EST today. This is so cruel, it truly is. Sixteen
years have passed so quickly and now as he is looking towards the finish line (18), I'm trying to think of ways to trip and tackle him so he doesn't cross it! He's looking forward to being an adult and a man. I'm trying to figure out how to get him to play with his Biker Mice From Mars again. If you've been reading this blog for the last two years then you know that every year on the kids' birthdays I do a special post to them. Why Life With Heathens? 2006-05-11 19:19:00 Everytime I come to this blog I look at the title "Life With Heathens" and I honestly chuckle. Everytime. Without fail. Why? Because it truly sums up the real world for me. Some people probably see heathens and think "Oh she means Godless non-Christians" but they are so very far from the truth that it too is laughable.Calling my children "heathens" is the one and only thing I have left of my mother that I can think kindly of. When my brothers and I were younger my mom would call us her heathens which basically meant "you rotten little boogers!" and was always meant in a loving way. It wasn't just when we were bad but anytime. She would tell us that she loved us heathens or that we were her heathens and throughout all the memory blackouts and abuse, it was the one thing I could always hang on too.So when my own children came along it just seemed natural to call them "heathens" as well. They are my rotten little heathens and I love them more than life itself. They have each saved my lif

New Additions and Updates 2006-04-23 18:54:00 There have been some new additions to the page that I hope you will check out.I have added some new links on the right side to a trial homeschooling blog over at HomschoolJournal.net and to my oldest son's blog (They're Nuts, I'm Not) as well. He's just starting out on it and using it mostly as writing practice but you are free to check it out. Any ignorant comments though WILL be deleted immediately. Also be on the look out for Sissy's blog (my daughter) here very soon. Her's is titled "Life and Times Of A Lil Blonde Girl". lolI have also added a Flickr badge so you can check out a few photos from our recent field trips and such. I may or may not allow public viewing of pics of the kids in the future. I'm still thinking on that one but if you are a friend and would like to see them please feel free to email me and ask.Other additions are buttons for DotMoms where I write twice a month and Blogher where I've listed this blog and my alter ego blog. Lessons “Burned” 2006-04-17 18:45:00 Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking a four mile hike with my two oldest children on the local Hawktrail. During this time of year the birds come through on their usual migratory path and you can see over 100 daily with the help of binoculars. In the brochure it says that the hike is "difficult" and 1.5 miles one way. That didn't sound so bad. We're tough, we could take it!Before starting out, we got together our gear (water, my injection kit, extra meds, snacks, phone, etc) and I made extra sure to rub both kids down with plenty of sunscreen. As an afterthought, I haphazardly smeared a little on my own arms, neck, face, and nose. I was feeling pretty smart at this point thinking I was actually prepared and covering all the bases for once (I'm well known for forgetting things constantly). As we hiked up the mountain we were sure to pace ourselves so we didn’t tire out too quickly (This was our first difficult hike together plus we're just plain out of shape). We were looking Read more:Lessons
Support Holocaust Remembrance Week 2006-04-10 20:11:00 Last week the children and I watched the movie “Paperclips”. If you’ve never heard of this story please go to their website and read about it. They explain much better than I ever could. I have always been interested in the Holocaust
- all aspects of it. For me it has been a lifelong struggle to understand how so much evil can exist and how so many can suffer because of close-minded views and hatred. Each time I read a new story, see a new movie, meet a Holocaust survivor I truly feel a deep pain in my heart. I think this more than anything else has brought me to tears too many times to count. So much lost and for what? What is even sadder is that our world seems to not have learned much of anything from it all. Racism, Anti-Semitism, and Hate still reign supreme in the world today. We dishonor the millions of lives lost each time we refuse to learn and grow. One thing that stuck with me about the movie (besides the immensity of it all) was the fact that during World War II, Norweg Read more:Support

BOYCOTT!! It's Time To Stop The Pain! 2007-04-28 19:00:00 Today is National Spank Out Day which means all those opposed to violence against children and spanking in general come together to try to bring an end to the pain being brought to our kids. It's a day we stand up for our children against people like the Pearls (Doc provides the most info hence the link) and say "You are wrong"! By the way, anyone who thinks hitting their children with a piece of plastic tubing is okay needs some serious help. It hurts, I know because I did an experiment last year by trying it on my own arm. Unfortunately that blog is gone but the lesson isn't.I am a survivor of childhood abuse myself. I was beaten by an ex-stepfather every chance he got. His mother also liked hitting me in the head with a hairbrush and I was slapped in the mouth (not tapped but SLAPPED) by my mother anytime I said something she didn't like. In those days, spanking meant you had to go pick your own "switch" off a bush, peel the bark off it, and then be beat with it. Whenever my moth
Ehhhh, I'm Just Not Feeling It 2007-05-02 06:38:00 If you're a regular blogger then you probably know about the Technorati Faves link-train-thingie-muh-jigger going around and that tons of people are joining it. If you think this is a post about joining the fun then you might as well leave now. There are no train tickets here I'm afraid and in fact, I'm quickly becoming very anti-Tech Fave train. There are several ways that this "train" works. People leave comments or post about it, list blogs/add them to their Technorati faves, and then the blog owner recipricates. Another twist is that you comment on a "train" blog, fave everyone else who has commented, and then they in turn favorite you. Obviously the important thing about this link train is getting into Technorati's top 100 favorites list (or some crap I don't remember because there was nothing shiny to hold my attention for very long).Ooookayyyyy. I made it through about two blogs doing this before my "Oh hell naw!" alarm went off. Maybe it's just me being silly (or making se Read more:Feeling

I Survived Teen Group 2006! 2006-02-17 02:16:00 That is what I'm having embroidered onto a t-shirt for myself after having hosted the homeschool teen group at our house this past Monday. You see, I decided to host it here because I figured if Meg could do it (a fellow homeschooler that I adore and who is LEAVING ME in June! lol) then heck I could handle it too. What I should have been thinking is "Well only 4 or 5 kids show up when Meg has hosted and they all looked so calm that I think I could handle this". That was such a mistake!Four or five ended up turning into around FIFTEEN kids in my house plus a total of five moms. I kid you not! I had twenty people in my house for three hours straight and the miracle of it all is we almost made it without anything breaking. Almost. I was very thankful for the other moms staying but not because it helped deter rowdiness. I was thankful because it gave me an extra chance to talk to other adults!! LOLThankfully it all turned out alright and the kids honestly did great. They sat around playin Read more:Group
Hellooooooooo Unschooling! 2006-01-31 21:06:00 I am happy to say that I am no longer a nervous wreck when it comes to the thought of teaching my high schooler. To be honest, it's been a blast so far and something I look forward to. I also did lots of reading, thinking, and talking to the kids and realized that Unschooling
would be well worth a try.So I told each of the kids to decide two or three subjects that they wanted to learn about and that even though we would keep doing a few things we've been doing daily they were to learn everything they could about their chosed subjects and at the end of a month impress the hell out of me. Sissy chose cooking and math which surprised me because she hates math. Big B chose skateboarding, Norse Mythology, and Algebra. He totally cheated on the Norse Mythology thing because that is one of his favorite things to learn about anyway but as long as he's happy then I am too.The things they had to continue to do was their daily journal (but they could write about their day or keep having me giv
Life With Cancer, Kids, And Crayons 2006-01-25 11:48:00 I'm sure you're wondering just what cancer, kids, and crayons could all possibly have in common. Well over the years I've found that all three can be very messy, they all meltdown at some point, they are all quite colorful, and all three can help you "draw" a very personal picture of something wonderful that you never knew existed. As a mother living with cancer I've decided to focus on the funny, bright, and happy things in my life rather than the bad. Before the cancer, I used to be one of those people who always wanted more, needed to be more, and thought I was less. These days though I can honestly say that you never realize just how many wonderful things there are out there until you think you are going to lose them. Cancer
has made me thankful for everything I do have and care less about what I don't.My kids are, of course, my greatest gifts. They make every day not only worth living but worth living better. I now try to live my life as an example for them so they too will be
I Hate You! 2006-01-15 04:38:00 This lovely phrase seems to be Lil Man’s favorite here lately. If you piss him off, hurt him, make him wait for something, or just look at him cross-eyed he will scream this at you. Yes folks, my sweet darling boy is becoming a royal pain in the ass mean little three year old. I had hoped we were going to avoid it this time (yes, I was stupid and didn’t think that ALL kids went through this phase so sue me.) but alas here it is. So far we’ve tried telling him that it’s okay because we still love him, told him it makes us sad when he says that, told him that we don’t say that and given him other things to say, and I’ve even told him that is a very mean thing to say and I would never say that to him. In return we get “I hate you (fill in blank)!”. *sigh*Where did this phrase come from? Why his two older siblings of course. It seems to be one of their favorite things to scream at each other when one pisses the other off. Sis is being a witch to Big B so he tells her he hat
Everybody Poops..Nooooo Really? 2005-12-30 20:48:00 In case you didn't know this is seriously a book that someone published about 10 years or so ago. If you don't believe me just look here... http://www.everyonepoops.com/bookstore/book.asp?sku=25&sc=1 . See, told you so.Anyway- so this book sits in the waiting room at my family practioner's office and everytime we go in one of my children (usually one of the older two) picks it up and reads it. This wouldn't be such a big deal if it was the three year old who is potty training but no, instead it is more times than not the 11 year old who thinks this is the funniest thing she's ever seen. Here is how the conversation usually goes..."Mom, this book says Everybody

Your point is??""Holy crap Mom, it shows a kid sitting on a toilet pooping!""I'm not sure his crap is Holy but I do believe the toilet is the right place for pooping dear and don't say crap it doesn't sound nice coming from a little girl.""Ewwww it says one hum
Monthly Check-In 2005-12-19 21:02:00 It’s been a little over a month since I last posted so I figured an update was in order. Homeschooling all three children has gone fairly well and definitely much better than I expected. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly to have BB do for high school but thanks to the local homeschool group it’s coming together little by little.Last month we had two field trips. The first one was to the Museum of Science and Natural History. Lil Man of course loved the dinosaurs that took up half of the second floor but we luckily were able to get him to look at other exhibits as well. I made sure BB and Sis explored (in a hands on sense) everything, listened, asked questions, and prepared themselves for a report I was going to have them write. I also took lots of pictures so I can put together a scrapbook and also so the kids can look back over everything they saw. After we left we talked about our day and I was really happy with how much the two oldest paid attention. The second field Read more:Monthly

Oh Yeah, We DID Make It 2005-11-22 21:06:00 Rather rude of me not to post something sooner isn't it? I just left you hanging and wondering if we ever made it to our new home. Well we did so now you can stop wondering. Thank you for reading, have a nice day, and Happy Holidays. :DJust kidding. Well we're still trying to get settled in. Things have been hectic to say the least so some rooms are still in boxes and not everything has a place. I'd love to tell you WHERE we moved to but since my mother loves to stalk me on the internet I will just say that we moved to another state. :DI am now homeschooling all three children. Thank you very much sucky public school system. So glad people pay taxes so you can screw them over when they need you. Anyway- even a screw up like me can do a better job than what my kids were getting in public school so we'll be okay. Found all new doctors except for a ped endo for the kids but that's another story. So just writing my articles for a few sites, trying to get unpacked, cleaning when I can,
