Good News for iTunes

For $1.29 music fans will get tunes that are fine tuned. Apple iTunes is getting set to sell much of EMI's catalog with no Digital Rights Management copy protection. This move is to push the digital music industry forward and also to give listeners the highest quality of sound possible with no restrictions on the music they love from all their favorite artists. The only bad part of all this? Beatles fans will be out of luck as their music is not part of the deal at all. But I'm sure there is going to be a ton of great artists and sounds included that will please people plenty.

Trouble for Musicians

I found this great picture of David Bowie (circa 1974) in boxing gloves. Although David is definitely not in trouble with the law there are a few fellow musicians who are... Busta Rhymes is set to face trial for assault charges, allegedly for beating his former driver "with a closed fist about the head and neck". This was apparently over a dispute about back pay. He was all set to go for a plea deal offer that would have allowed the rapper to remain free but the judge withdrew it. We'll keep up with what happens. Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland was involved in a rowdy scuffle (to put it mildly) with his wife Mary this past weekend. Reports are that police were called to the Graciela Hotel near their home in Toluca Lake, CA. Rooms were damaged at the luxury inn with holes in the walls, broken plates and items thrown everywhere. Reality Music TV is Hot!

OK some people do not consider "American Idol", "Dancing with the Stars" and "Grease: You're the One that I Want" 'reality' shows but actually 'contest' shows. But since they are lumped in with what is going on with a lot of television today (not actors reading a script) we will stick with calling it such. But whatever you want to call them there is no denying they are hot! Hot! Hottt! The dance/music tv show "Grease: You're the One that I Want" just aired its finale on Saturday night. I admit I haven't kept up after watching the first few shows but for those who did let me know if you're happy or upset about Max Crumm (Danny Zuko) and Laura Osnes (Sandy Dumbrowski) winning! Crumm hails from Phoenix and Osnes comes from Minnesota and they will now head over to Broadway this summer to play the lead roles in a $10 million dollar revival. Not bad for these two newcomers and not bad for Simon Cowell either who created this hit. And speaking of hits for Simon Cowell...Sanjaya Malaka

There's good news for Elton John music lovers. His entire music catalogue is being made available online. This includes more than 30 albums with more than 400 tracks. Elton John's career has spanned more than 40 years that has included numerous top hits. Elton says he wanted his entire catalogue online so all his music would be available and not just the hits, to those who want it. This will be done exclusively through Apple Inc.'s iTunes from March 26 - April 30 before other legal download services get ahold of it. Reportedly Justin Timberlake does not want to be considered a 'pop' star. The former 'N Sync frontman desperately wants to be considered solely an R&B artist. He also was none too happy when he had to perform at this year's Grammy awards with a contest winner. He says he followed through with the performance because he sticks to his promises. A Complete Rundown of Dancing with the Stars

The season 4 debut of Dancing with the Stars aired tonight on ABC and fans of this show are glad it's back! I watched it all tonight and am here to give you all the details.The night started out great with good music and even better dancing as former 90210 star Ian Zierling came out onstage with his partner Cheryl and wowed the judges. They ended up with a decent score of 21 out of a possible 30.Next up is former model Paulina Porizkova with her partner Alec. Dancing the Fox Trot, they received a lukewarm and mixed reception from the judges, receiving a score of 19.Billy Ray Cyrus up next...let's see if the Achy Breaky Heart guy can dance. Uh Oh! He pulled his partners hair piece off at the end of the dance! Now that is what you call good t.v.! Hey, is there any American Idol fans out there? I'm just kidding of course there are. In fact American Idol continues to dominate the TV ratings, attracting between 27 and 37 million viewers per telecast this season. Not bad for folks over at FOX. But let's talk about why we are all watching our favorite music show... the performers. Apparently Sanjaya Malakar's big wide smile may be masking his true feelings. Insiders say privately he is actually feeling pretty bummed. 2007 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Takes Place Last Night in New York City

It was an evening filled with entertainment last night at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted its 2007 new members. The honorees included The Ronettes, Patti Smith, R.E.M., Van Halen and Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five.Most agreed it made a most interesting celebration despite the fact that only two members of the dysfunctional Van Halen showed up. Bassist Michael Anthony and one time singer Sammy Hager represented the rock and roll group. The metal supergroup Velvet Revolver stood in for the band and played their songs to mixed reviews.The music night wrapped up with all the honorees gathering onstage to jam together with Patti Smith singing “People have the Power” to cap off the ceremony.

Dancing and Singing Update

Well it's been way over a week since our last reality show update so here it is.First off, Dancing with the Stars is streaming along with some great and not so great performances Monday night. I will give you my votes for the best and worst and forget what the judges said. I loved Apolo Ohno and his partner's dance the most. They took a scene right out of the movie Pulp Fiction and made it happen! Laila Ali is doing great, Ian Zierling is very good and Joey Fatone is OK too. I'll give 2 thumbs up to John Ratzenberger and Clyde Drexler mainly because I just like these guys. Leeza Gibbons and Shandi Finnessay have got to go! I do agree with the judges that Billy Ray Cyrus has improved tremendously and as for Heather Mills well, even though I usually like her I didn't dig her dancing last night. Eddie Murphy get ready to take that DNA test! Former Spice Girl Mel B and ex-girlfriend of actor Eddie Murphy had a baby girl today in Los Angeles. Reportedly mother and daughter are healthy. The hospital staff is calling the girl Baby Brown for now since she has yet to be named. There is one way she is already connected to Murphy for sure...the newborn and him share the same birthday!Sir Paul McCartney was nearly attacked at his English country estate earlier today when a fan crashed through the gates of his estate in Peasmarsh. The man was screaming "I must get to him" while he was being apprehended by McCartney's security. You have to understand why these actors and musicians hire so much staff and protection, there's no telling how much a nut job this guy was! Some of the top singles this week on BBC's Radio 1 Playlist include Artic Monkeys Brainstorm, My Chemical Romance I Don't Love You, Fall Out Boy Thanks For The Memories, Natashia Bedingfield I Wanna Have Your Babies and Bloc Party I Still Remember.If you are like me your favorite band/singer changes all the time. I guess some of the performances are aired live on tv and the finalist girls are put through various challenges.As hot as this pop music group is I am sure viewers are loving all the personal drama like canidates busted up relationships with boyfriends and parents to keep them entertained. It's off to the races in country music with a race going on between superstars Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney & the band Rascal Flatts. It's all about who brought more stats in 2006 as far as filling concert seats, CD's sold or weeks at no. 1 on the charts.Right now Tim McGraw's "Last Dollar (Fly Away)" is a number one hit on the charts but Kenny Chesney filled more seats last year than anybody else in country music. And Rascal Flatts has bragged about top sales and their millions of fans on billboards all over Nashville. Keith Urban and Brad Paisley are following close behind. We'll see which of these country megastars reaches the top of the charts in 2007!


TV Land Award Show

This may be straying from the music scene but how can we not report on televisions biggest night? We're talking about the TV Land Award s that took place last night and will be aired on TV Land (of course) on Sunday April 22nd at 9 p.m. and repeated numerous times the following week.Hosted by Kelly Ripa who came in flying as the Flying Nun the night was full of fun and entertainment. All your old favorites were there like Carol Burnett, the whole cast of the Brady Bunch and a whole lot more. Sharon Stone gave the cast of Taxi an award and after Judd Hirsch and Danny Devito gave acceptance speeches there was a bit of a slip up when Jeff Conaway (remember him from the musical Grease?) went back out on stage by himself and rambled on incoherently. OOPS! But anyway it all made for interesting television.Be sure and check it out for yourself when they air it on the 22nd. Now start humming the song from the Brady Bunch...

Did you happen to watch the CMT Awards where the country stars shined last night? Monday night was the telecast of the big award show and this one counts folks because it is country music's only fan-voted awards.American Idol's Carrie Underwood was a big winner last year as well as this year. She won last night for Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year. Group of the Year went to Rascall Flatts. Male Video of the the Year went to Kenny Chesney. Wide Open Country Video of the Year went to Jack Ingram and the big one...the Johnny Cash Visionary Award went to his friend Kris Kristofferson.

OK all you American Idol addicts out there...you have finally gotten what you have wanted for a very long time now!  You know what we are talking about...Sanjaya Malakar has finally left the building!  So have you been feeling a little bit happier as you have gone about your work today or are you one of the few FANjaya's that is in mourning?  What I want to know is how FOX TV is feeling today.  Is he the thing that was keeping American Idol interesting this season?  Hmmm...it will be fun to see if ratings at the television network will fall now that they do not have their one man curiosity wonder to warble onstage anymore or if the show will still be a ratings hit or even more of a hit now that he's gone.  We will have to wait and see...

Music Memorabilia Auction Was Huge Success!

Rock music memorabilia sold at a charity fundraising auction collected an astounding 2.4 million held in New York City this weekend.  Some of the biggest sellers were Jimi Hendrix's red fender mustang guitar which sold for $480,000. U2 guitarist and co-founder of the fundraiser The Edge donated several instruments including his favorite guitar which was a 1975 Gibson Les Paul that he has played for years. Bono donated sunglasses that went for $24,000. A guitar of Bob Dylan's sold for $192,000 and Paul McCartney's guitar brought in $81,600.  Some of the raised money will go to a charity that replaces musical equipment lost to hurricane Katrina and Rita.

And the Pussycat Doll Winner Is...

Another reality music show has wrapped up with Asia being crowned the next Pussycat Doll. Some are wondering why Asia was picked since she had nothing but Diva-like demands and negative attitutudes with the other girls on the show. And even though she won, word is she may not even go on to be part of the group and might end up as a backup dancer or singer or even in the Vegas Dolls show. But a Warner Bros. rep tells TMZ.com all of this is not true. So much for show biz!And by the way the Pussycat Doll s has been picked up for yet another season so we'll get to see more girls in action next time around!


Dancing With The Stars Latin Music Night

Stars had to learn 2 dances for this weeks show, a group performance plus their routine with their partners which was performed to Latin music. Here's a quick rundown; Judges loved the samba that Joey Fatone performed and they liked Heather Mills paso doble even though the musical arrangement of Don't Cry For Me Argentina was a flop. John Ratzenberger's mambo was fun but had footwork issues. Judges gave good scores to Laila Ali despite the fact that she threw in a few beats of her own. Billy Ray Cyrus's jive was not too impressive and he still failed to score an 8 that he really wants to get before he goes home. Apolo Ohno's rumba with partner Julianne was steaming hot once again. This guy is my favorite hands down! And finally, Ian Zierling gave his best effort but his paso doble seemed to be missing something, said the judges. Web polls are betting John Ratzenberger's time is up but I say its Billy Ray's turn to go. What do you think?

30 Seconds to Mars!

The group 30 Seconds to Mars success is shooting into outer space with the release of their album, A Beautiful Lie. The group walked away with two Australian MTV Video Music Awards for Best Rock Video and Video of the Year. In March their song "From Yesterday" was at #1 on the modern rock radio and climbed to the top of the charts in 22 weeks. This proves that actor Jared Leto is not just another actor who wants to sing. I'd say he and his band have definitely arrived on the music scene and are going to stay for a very long time!

Did you love the 1984 mock documentary, This is Spinal Tap? If so, you are in luck as director Rob Reiner has 'reunited' members of this fictional rock group Spinal Tap once again. He reconnected with Nigel Tufnel, Derek Smalls and David St. Hubbins visiting each at their mini horse farm, hip hop recording/colonic studio and a rehab clinic via the Internet. Supposedly uniting these musically challenged hilarious guys for a Live Earth Concert reunion. These dudes sing and sound just as bad as they always did but they are just as entertaining to watch now as they were nearly 25 years ago. You can't help but love em! Britney Spears is Back?!

How much would you pay to see a singer live in concert who didn't even really sing her songs but lip-synced and was only onstage from 12 to 20 minutes? Well I know I wouldn't have spent my hard earned money on that but there were apparently Britney Spear fans who were willing to fork over as much as $125 dollars to see her four song show last night at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA and her five song show the previous night in San Diego. Some reports say the nervous 'singer' chewed gum during her live performance. If you want to see her for yourself she's scheduled to perform tonight in L.A. and Sunday night in Las Vegas, both at the House of Blues.

What 2 Will Go On American Idol Tonight?

There are more than 70 million votes from last week that will decide what two contestants get the boot from American Idol. Last week was Jon Bon Jovi week and by all accounts it was one of the most meaningless weeks of the year since nobody was eliminated from the show. This week plus last weeks votes will both be included in that selection. It might be bad news for Lakisha Jones and Chris Richardson with their efforts probably being too little too late. Jordin Sparks may be safe and even though Blake Lewis took the biggest risk with his rendition of "You Give Love a Bad Name." Phil Stacey was adequate and Melinda Doolittle was strong as always. R. Kelly Writes Song For Survivors & Families

"Rise up, when you feel you can't go on, rise up, and all of your hope is gone, rise up, when you're weak and you can't be strong." These are the lyrics singer R. Kelly has written about the healing in the aftermath of the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech where a gunman killed 32 people on the University's campus.The song will be available May 15 with 100% of the proceeds going to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund that provides assistance to victims families and grief counseling. R. Kelly wrote the ballad after watching the events on television while he was on tour.

Billy Ray Next To Go On Dancing With the Stars?

If the judges had their way the answer would be, yes! They love Apolo Ohno, Laila, Ali and Joey Fatone but they made their opinions crystal clear on Monday nights show that they wish voters would boot off struggling dancer Billy Ray Cyrus on tonights show. Judge Bruno Tonioli said Cyrus's foxtrot was "always deliciously awful." The audience booed but he didn't back down saying, "I love him like everybody else - but it was horrible. It was crap." We'll see if his wishes come true on tonight's cast off show.And four singers remain on American Idol, Melinda Doolittle, Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks and Lakisha Jones. Odds on favorite is Melinda Doolittle but with only weeks to go you better get your votes in for your favorite!
