You'll, Like, Never Guess What Just Totally Happened! 2007-03-21 13:33:42 Folks, I'm about to drop something ground-breaking and unprecedented. A Browns defensive lineman has been signed by - can't figure it out, can you? The Denver Broncos! Let's just jot down a quick reminder to bring this up when we're discussing the nominees for Shocker of the Year.
After the release of former Clevelander Courtney Brown and the restructuring of Big Funny Money's over-inflated contract, Mike Shannahan did what he normally does when he's in need of a D-Lineman or two: Garbage picking in Berea.
"It's amazing the stuff people just throw away," Shannahan said during a Cleveland Browns T&A Complex alleyway interview.
This time, however, the Browncos may have grabbed someone who Cleveland doesn't quite think of as useless yet in Alvin McKinley. Alvin played somewhat sparingly for the Browns in the past couple years, but held his own during his time on the field and appeared to be developing and progressing well.

Kellen Winslow Rumor Refuted 2007-03-20 13:29:52 A simple rumor posted at ProFootballTalk.com's aptly named "Rumor
Mill" sent Clevelanders, not excluding media figures, into a frenzy after stating that Cleveland Browns' tight end and resident stunt man Kellen Winslow
may not play for the 2007 season due to a microfracture surgery back in January.
The report said that Winslow's recovery was not moving along at the pace GM Phil Savage and others originally implied. In fact, they even went as far as to say that the surgery may have ended his career.
NFL Network's Adam Schefter and those who have closely followed Winslow's recovery, however are now saying that he has been off his crutches for two weeks, and the soldier should be ready for boot camp...err training camp - that is, of course, unless Joey Porter decides to punch someone else in the face.
Winslow himself said Monday evening, "I'm good, very good."
When asked about the rumor, he replied, "I don't even know where that came from - I don't know who said that, but I l
Bengals Decide Not to Match Offer for Smith 2007-03-16 17:29:30 The Smith
count on the Cleveland Browns' roster will move up to 5 today after the Cincinnati Bengals
announced on their web site that they will not match the offer given by Cleveland a week ago. Smith will be a nice addition to the Browns front three at an estimated cost of $8 million over a four year period.
Smith began with the Bengals as a backup tackle, and began to expand his role over the past couple years. He played in 13 games in the '05 season and games 1-13 last year before being designated as "inactive".

Terelle Smith Released, Lines Addressed 2007-03-15 13:47:59 The Browns have released fullback Terrelle Smith
after his third season with the team. Smith came to Cleveland touted as a monster blocking back, and quickly became one of the team's leading figures. However, on a crowded roster with two underused fullbacks, there just wasn't room to hold him and Lawrence Vickers.
The more versatile Vickers will likely be the lone fullback for the Browns. Fans got to see a small preview of his abilities last year as a rookie, and if he is able to improve his blocking skills, he shouldn't have many problems filling the spot.
The Browns also continued on their quest to solidify the trenches, signing linemen on both sides of the ball. Defensive lineman Robaire Smith and guard/center Seth McKinney signed 4-year and 1-year contracts with the Browns yesterday, respectively.

Source: Bentley May Return During '07 Season 2007-03-14 17:14:52 Far be it from me to push rumors along, but this one's just plain juicy. My cousin's sister's old roommate's aunt's best friend A source at The OBR with connections close to LeCharles Bentley
's family has stated that Bentley may return to Cleveland sooner than originally thought:
He's rehabilitating in Arizona and will be back in Cleveland shortly. He feels that he'll be ready to play in OCTOBER!!!
I reported he was done for good, but his own words have completely contradicted that. He (LCB) feels the 2nd surgery isn't warranted or needed.
Supposedly, he's telling Phil NOT to place him on the IR. His goal is to be back THIS YEAR.
This report has not been confirmed by any official source or agency, but could mean great things for the Browns' 2007 season if it holds true.
Hank Fraley's extension, the signing of Eric Steinbach and the possibilities of having Bentley and Joe Thomas joining the line this season could mean a momentous turnaround for what has arguably been on Read more:Source

McCutcheon Released, Droughns Traded 2007-03-10 14:50:00 The Cleveland Browns announced Friday that they have released one of two players remaining from the original expansion roster of 1999 in cornerback Daylon McCutcheon. Kicker Phil Dawson is now the only player remaining who has been here since the Browns returned to the league.
While McCutcheon was "serviceable" at times, it might be nice to see a receiver on his former side with a defender within 7 yards. I repeat, "The Cushion" has been released.
On the other side of the ball, running back Reuben Droughns was traded for wide receiver Tim Carter, and will apparently serve as co-replacement for the now-retired Tiki Barber alongside Brandon Jacobs with the New York Giants. Assuming his injury problems from last year are over with, he should complement Jacobs, who seems do bring a mixed punishing yet quick style, quite well.
Phil Savage said that the Browns almost signed Carter as a free agent last season, but were unable to do so.
Carter is another non-marquis signing that shoul
If You Can't Beat 'Em, Sign 'Em 2007-03-08 14:43:21 I remember sitting on my couch devastated the evening of September 14, 2003. Jamal Lewis had simply embarrassed the Browns defense, ripping them open for an NFL single-game record of 295 yards during a 33-13 clobbering by the Ravens. "We've truly reached a new low," I remember thinking.
After watching Lewis tear apart Cleveland's defense twice a year, I felt hopeful when I had learned that the Ravens were trying to make cap room and had released their all-time leading rusher. Sure, they had done so in the hopes of re-signing him at a discount price, but when the 1 year deal they had offered him was rejected, Lewis decided to look elsewhere.
First stop? Cleveland.
My hope continued to grow, mostly due to the recent pattern of players signing with the first team they visit during this year's free agency period. Lewis is a punishing back who definitely fits the mold of what the Browns have been trying to do since returning to the league: develop a smash mouth power running game
Can I Have Your Autograph? 2007-03-08 00:55:45 Well folks, I know I don't often post on much other than the Browns, but this site I found warrants a post. Sports Memorabilia.com is a great place to go if you're looking for autographed balls, jerseys, pictures, or anything else!
If you check out their site, you can easily look through authentic memorabilia for just about any sport you can think of arranged by sport, team, player, or even price. (I've got my eye on the autographed Jim Brown throwback jersey)
They have all kinds of stuff for the Browns! Also, whether you're an Indians fan, a Cavs Freak or a loser fan of teams elsewhere (oops! ), they have stuff I wouldn't had thought of if I tried.
All autographed items are guaranteed authentic, and the prices are very fair. Take a quick run on over to Sports Memorabilia.com and see for yourself. You never know; you could find that one thing you've been trying to find for years!

Browns Talk Defense, Sign Peek & Wright 2007-03-05 00:33:00 The Cleveland Browns
have continued to work during this year's Free Agency period, and have now apparently shifted their focus to defense with the signings of outside linebacker Antwan Peek and cornerback Kenny Wright
to 3 year deals.
Peek played 3 years with the Texans, and should bring much needed speed to the outside pass rush. The Browns finished last season with just 28 sacks, 11 of which came from rookie linebacker Kamerion Wimbley.
While Kenny Wright doesn't necessarily bring top tier talent to the Browns' ailing secondary, he will bring in valuable veteran experience as well as depth.

Steinbach: Now 98% Less Likely to be Arrested! 2007-03-03 02:52:00 The Browns have, for the second year in a row, picked up the best and most coveted free agent offensive lineman in the NFL. Former Bengal Eric Steinbach has agreed to a seven year $49.5 million deal with the Cleveland Browns.
This presents a win-win situation for all of those involved: The Browns continue to build what could be a force of an offensive line in the not so distant future; fans breathe a sigh of relief at the sight that their team is truly and actively taking steps in the right direction; and Eric drastically reduces his likelihood of being incarcerated in the next seven years!
This could give us all an idea of what the Browns intend (or maybe more so what they do not intend) to do with their third overall pick in the upcoming draft, as well.
Since LeCharles Bentley will miss most, if not all of the 2007 season, the Browns re-signed center Hank Fraley. That being said, it might be safe to say that the Browns have done about all the major offensive line personnel mo
Winslow Has Successful Surgery 2007-01-31 15:15:53 Browns tight end Kellen Winslow
underwent a second arthroscopic knee surgery yesterday to remove scar tissue and to repair some damage to the cartilage.
Although the surgery was successful, we can't help but worry about yet another staph infection. Winslow had developed one last year following his previous surgeries, and the Browns organization as a whole seemed to have an issue with them. Multiple players, including center LeCharles Bentley and safety Brian Russell had also contracted infections throughout the 2006 season.
Other News:
The Browns have made several moves within the coaching staff over the past few days:
-Steve Marshall, a recent add-on to Nick Saban's Alabama coaching staff, was brought in as the Browns' new offensive line coach following Jeff Davidson's move to Carolina. Marshall also spent the '04 and '05 seasons as the offensive line coach for the Houston Texans.
-Tom Myslinski has been signed as the Browns' strength & conditioning coach to replace Read more:Surgery
They Make it Way Too Easy 2007-01-22 21:44:26 I really tried to let this one go by - I've been fighting it all day. However, I just cannot let it go. Yet another Bengal player has been arrested.
It appears that after pulling over a vehicle in which Bengals corner back Johnathan Joseph was a passenger, a deputy caught a big ol' whiff of the sticky-icky. Joseph's back pack was searched, and a bag of pot was found inside.
I believe this would be a time to raise our glasses once more (my arms are tired, aren't yours?) to the proud Bengals organization. Paul Brown would be rolling in his grave gleaming with pride if he could see what you have done with his club, Marvin Lewis!
Nine players arrested in less than one calendar year. That's gotta be an NFL record. Someone get the bronze ready. Marvin's bust will very obviously be expected in Mansfield Canton for this one!

Jerry Rosburg: "Hey Michael, don't Bogart the bong!" 2007-01-22 17:48:59 Not to say that Rosburg wasn't the coach of what seemed to be one of the Browns' only bright spots, but screw it. He's gone now.
Rosburg has been given a 3-year contract in Atlanta to hold the position of their special teams coach after 6 years with the Browns. He and Michael
Vick were said to have each taken two or three huge bong rips to celebrate the occasion and bond.

Chudzinski Named Offensive Coordinator 2007-01-20 06:00:00 At least one glaring issue seems to have been addressed after this weekend, as the Browns announced on Saturday that Rob Chudzinski will be the Browns new offensive coordinator.
Chudzinski was the tight ends coach for Antonio Gates and the Chargers for the past two seasons, but previously held the same position for the Browns in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. When Botch was finally ousted from the club, Chudzinski took over the offensive coordinator position for the remaining five games.
Yet another local guy, Chud hails from Toledo, and has always been a "huge Browns fan."

Butler Signs Extension 2007-01-12 20:36:41 The Browns have announced that they have signed offensive lineman Kelly Butler
to a two-year extension.
Butler was claimed off the wire back in September and took over for Ryan Tucker after he was placed on the Non-Football IR for an undisclosed mental condition. Butler did about as well as he could have been expected to, and it's good to see that the Browns are rewarding players that want to play.
Butler is obviously not going to be the one that bolsters this sad line, but I would guess that every little bit helps...

Former 49er Brings Depth to Secondary 2007-04-03 18:57:09 In an attempt to bring depth to an injury-riddled secondary, the Cleveland Browns announced yesterday that they have signed veteran safety Mike Adams to a two-year contract. While Adams does bring depth and some experience to the Browns, high-end talent has yet to show itself in his 3 years in the league.
He originally came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the 49ers and accumulated 18 starts and 65 tackles.
Adams will likely play a backup role behind incumbents Sean Jones and Brodney Pool and will possibly be used in the nickel package. Read more:Former

Breaking News: Tony Rizzo Is A Moron 2007-04-05 19:19:17 During his show today on WKNR, Tony Rizzo announced very matter-of-factly that the Browns want none other than quarterback JaMarcus Russell for their first pick in the upcoming draft, and that they'll do anything they have to in order to make it happen.
"Phil [Savage] is desperate for JaMarcus Russell...the Browns will trade up to #1 if they have to in order to get him."
In a move that could only be filed under "F" for "Fucking Stupid", Rizzo predicted that Savage would give up the one thing he has been known to value the most in the draft: more picks. A move like this would likely have us trading our first round pick for next year as well.
Now, I don't claim to be the Nostradamus of the NFL, but this move just does not make sense on any level for the Browns. They have what (despite what many fans may think) very well may be their quarterback of the future in Charlie Frye, and are finally taking steps toward giving him someone to look up to and learn from.
Now that there ha Read more:Breaking

An Ode to Schrutebag 2007-04-06 16:27:54 "You mean someone was actually listening??"
As a guy who runs a blog on his own dime (lots of dimes, actually), I have a propensity to defend my own. A man whose last name could not fit more aptly, Colin Cowherd, shall henceforth be referred to as "Schrutebag".
If you'd like to do the Urban Dictionary entry, A Schrutebag is a douchebag [sic] with sycophantic tendencies. Suits me just fine. So, from now on, that asshole is Schrutebag.
If you're wondering what this man has done to deserve such a fate as being condemned to such a designation throughout the sports blogosphere, I'm glad to tell you.
Without being provoked, Schrutebag decided to direct his listeners (or at least those still conscious after his mindless dribble) to launch an attack on The Big Lead and overload their servers. Shortly thereafter, the so-called "Herd" (of sheep) followed his instructions and did just that. The site shut down, and still has not recovered.

Browns Sign Krause, Ricard 2007-04-17 21:56:25 The Browns
have signed former San Diego Charger tight end Ryan Krause and former Raven/Bill Alan Ricard each to one-year contracts. This move yesterday pulls in depth at both positions, which, for one reason or another, may be a bit thin at the start of the upcoming season.
With Kellen Winslow's knee in question, Krause will likely sit behind the recently extended Steve Heiden. Ricard, who helped Jamal Lewis rack up 2,066 yards in 2003, will probably help in showing Lawrence Vickers the ropes and sparingly block for his old buddy.
Talk About Sophomore Curses 2007-04-17 14:29:15 It appears that the Save LT from Madden campaign has been successful, but Titans fans may now be wishing they had started their own campaign. Reports are saying that last year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Vince Young will be on the Madden '08 cover.
The infamous cover spot has been thought to bring players nothing but grief and bad luck throughout the past few years, and Young appears to be next in line behind Shaun Alexander, Daunte Culpepper, Donovan McNabb and others who have suffered injury or an overall lack of production following having their mugs on the popular game cover.
An announcement is expected to confirm the report later today. For Tennessee fans, I guess it was good while it lasted... Read more:Sophomore

Heiden Gets Extension 2007-04-15 15:13:00 The Browns announced yesterday that they have signed TE Steve Heiden to a contract extension that will keep him in Cleveland until 2011. Financial terms of the agreement are not yet known.
While Heiden was not quite in the spotlight that Kellen Winslow has been, he has been consistently productive for the Browns during his time on the field. His sure hands and veteran experience have been a great help on possession downs, and has become one of the team's fan favorites over the past few years by showing a toughness and reliability that is invaluable in a city like Cleveland. What's New At the Pound 2007-04-19 14:18:11 Just a few updates to let you all know about your favorite Browns blog:
- The Barking Lot will be changing its name. When we started up our forums, the name seemed just about perfect. However, unbeknown to me at the time, my buddy Dune at Dawg Bones has been putting out a podcast by the same name for quite some time now. I really don't want to steal Dune's thunder, so we'll be taking suggestions for a while here for new names.
- We have been getting plenty of readers here, but it seems that many are keeping their opinions to themselves. Just a reminder that the Dawg Pound
wants to hear what you think! You can click the "Comments" link under any one of the posts here to speak your mind on whatever topic is being discussed.

Halftime Notes - Browns vs Bills 2007-12-16 13:25:20
Thanks to my brother-in-law for the pic from the stands
- Wow, is this weather nasty or what? I touched on the weather during today's show on Dawg Pound Radio, and it has only gotten worse. The wind is on a tear off the lake, and the snow continues to fall. The field is so snowy, that there was a minute-and-a-half delay while the referees tried to find the 50 yard line to spot the ball.
- Jamal Lewis is a stud in the snow. He's already broken off a couple big runs, and has 80 yards and is averaging 5.3 yards per carry at the half. During the Browns
' last drive of the half, J-Lew went over the 1,000 yard mark for the 6th time in his career.
- The Browns have not been afraid to throw in the bad weather, and it's definitely paying off. Braylon Edwards has made a couple spectacular c Read more:Halftime

Browns Will Take Win Over Jets 2007-12-10 07:16:10 It wasn't the prettiest of victories, but the Browns
will take it as they remain in playoff contention and move past the Jets 24-18 yesterday at Giants' Stadium.
Despite a few hiccups, Cleveland's defense was able to bear down in clutch moments - including a heart (and Jet) stopping goal line stand to start the second quarter that was capped off by a Sean Jones interception in the end zone.
Jamal Lewis put the proverbial "nail in the coffin" with a 31-yard rumble, shedding several Jets defenders on his way to the end zone, and Joe Jurevicius was able to recover 2 of 3 onside kicks for the Browns to hang on.
That's all for now, but be sure to check in later, as I'll be posting my full review of the action this evening.

Dawg Pound Review: Browns 21 - Cardinals 27 2007-12-03 14:16:38 Now that I've wiped a bit of egg from my face in picking the Browns
to handily (based on the score) beat the Cardinals
, here's the game in review:
1st Quarter:
The game began with a miscue, when Derek Anderson - unpressured - threw the ball away to the left side. He was called for intentional grounding, and the Browns had already set off on the wrong foot. After what appeared to be the beginnings of a nice drive, Anderson threw a pick-6, and then aborted a snap shortly thereafter.
I couldn't find a pic of "the boot," so I guess a picture of Leigh Bodden getting burned will do.On the Cardinals' ensuing drive, Kurt Warner threw an incomplete pass that would have brought up fourth down and four - that is, if Leigh Bodden didn't decide to do his best "Phil Dawson" and boot the ball into t Read more:Pound
Browns Fall to Cards 27-21 2007-12-03 00:31:25 Penalties, turnovers and overall mistakes cost the Browns
today, as they lost to the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz.
Special teams wasn't exactly a highlight this week, and Leigh Bodden is starting to make mistakes that can no longer be explained by an ailing back - or much else, for that matter. Anderson threw two picks (one returned for a TD) and mishandled a snap, but also threw for 300-plus yards and brought the Browns from their own 18 to within inches of victory - with the help of Jason Wright and Kellen Winslow.
Winslow made a great catch in the end zone during the last play, but was ruled out of bounds. The call was upheld after the replay assistant called for a review. I'll have more later! Read more:Cards
