Family of Five and Some Wind 2007-03-27 08:02:00 You know those special, rare people you feel like you just know when you first meet them? A kind of familiarity that occurs when you least expect it but are always pleasantly surprised? The mom that I met last weekend felt like that to me. Very few people greet you with open arms for a hug the very first time you meet. I'm going to put that into practice when people come to my home-a sincere welcome. Even if it's my UPS man, he's getting a hug! Of course I'll chicken out and spare my poor UPS man the awkwardness and possibility of post delivery stress disorder, but it's a good thought to ponder. The greeting was a great start to a fun morning with mom, dad, two teenage girls and a younger brother. They were in their beautiful new home that had some very cool custom touches and an awesomely picturesque backyard. The wind was completely obnoxious and ruined some otherwise great shots, but this one was spared and is actually one of my favorites from the day.The youngest was such Read more:Family
Proof Books and Business 2007-03-20 03:14:00 I'm working on delivery and packaging for my clients. Unfortunately, right now I'm in the "trying out" stage so I'm sending out different products in an effort to find what I really like. One of the latest proof books I've tried is spiral bound, binding through each proof:I'm pretty happy with it but I'm not sure if it's the best option out there. Also, finding the perfect company to do my packaging is on my "to do" list. I have a few good leads and I'm hopeful they will work out.Starting a business is a huge task and to be honest, I'm not sure I was fully ready. I'm doing my best though, and I have no doubt that it will work. Read more:Proof

A Hot Suitcase for Europe 2007-03-19 01:20:00 I'm not sure what I'm more excited about at this moment. The fact that I'm planning a Europe
an Vacation this summer OR the fact that I found this:I'm sure I will be making this purchase, as soon as I figure out a way to convince Curtis I NEED this piece of luggage. (Easier to locate on the carousel of endless black suitcases?)And Europe is going to be fabulous! We're going to spend a couple of weeks there and visit England, France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Is it just me, or is planning for a vacation loads of fun? I guess not, that's why people have travel agents.
Martha, Brad and I 2007-03-18 05:53:00 I love to cook. I love to try new recipes. Finding recipes to try is like a good hunt for me. Searching online is a good method, but I usually resort to internet recipes for less ambitious, more practical, lazy kind of meals. Not that you can't get really great recipes online, but there's something about opening a cookbook and pouring through page after page of recipes and pictures of recipes. Tonight, I went to the Madam Herself. Martha
Stewart. Martha and I made crabcakes. I'm not sure why I picked crabcakes to make, but they were delicious, despite the fact that I've never made them before, as a matter of fact, I've never even ordered crabcakes before.I paired the maincourse with corn on the cob, cucumber salad and Brad Pitt.Thank goodness for Martha Stewart because I finally figured out the trick to corn on the cob. SUGAR. Yes, boil 1-2 tbsp of sugar in the water. Brad Pitt joined us ala "Babel", which in my humble opinion was not great, at all. Before I get off the
Penguin Storyboard 2007-03-13 06:58:00 The penguin was doing his battery assisted dance, which was impressive on it's own, but then the little one got right in there and rocked the house! If I were a popular singing competition judge, I would have said, "It was hot, dawg"!! Read more:Penguin
M&M's Make Me Smile 2007-03-12 18:56:00 I was going through my archives to update a couple of images on my website this morning, and as I was carelessly skimming through the files, this picture jumped out and made me smile:That's the look of a kid who's grandmother just put a bag of m&m's over my head. M&M's! And a small bag at that. Remember when it was the little things that made us so happy? I miss those days (although, I must admit, I have been known to get a little over-the-top excited for some chocolate). I've been glued to my laptop these past few days, editing and figuring out new ideas for clients. The most exciting is that I think I've finally found a slideshow program that I like. I'm testing it out using my client's from Saturday's post as my experiment. So far, it's going really well!Happy Monday! Read more:Smile
Great Morning With a Great Family 2007-03-11 03:50:00 Today I took pictures for the sweetest family! There was so much love and fun and sweetness in the house, it was palpable. The youngest was wide-eyed and full of life, despite his tiredness. He was so sweet and just adorable. The oldest, well, what can I say? I thought for one second that he may be a tough one, but then he made a move out of nowhere and I knew I was so wrong. He put his hand on his hip, slung his head back and gave me that look as if to say, 'I know what you want me to do, silly, you just have to wait a minute, or thirty'. Up until this point, and even a bit after, he didn't really want to look at the camera. And I could hardly blame him, this house had some cool toys! So here's the pose--But then, I got these--Here's some more from today. (Some of the cutest pictures were of the youngest dancing with a penguin, I'm working on a storyboard for that one. Hopefully, I'll have it posted on the next update). Read more:Family

My Adorable, Uncooperative Nephew 2007-02-24 05:27:00 Maybe I tried too hard. Or was it that I was originally too confident and thought it would be a piece of cake.Whatever it was, I had to admit that I was defeated. Elliott, my brilliant nephew, was not giving an inch to appease my desire for the pictures I envisioned. It was just not going to happen on this trip. It was a case of terrible timing on my part and a very disinterested subject. If Elliott didn't physically have something in his hands, you could almost see the thoughts running through his mind on what he could possibly pick up to quench his overactive curiosity.I knew I was resigned to throw in the towel when I couldn't nail the 'walk away' photo. The photo that I usually love and have no problems with at all, the one where the subjects are walking away from me and the camera. My nephew refused to hold mommy's hand and came to a complete stop, mid-bridge, to fully inspect whatever it was he found, no doubt the most interesting thing on the planet. My sister was s Read more:Adorable
Whirlwind Weekend and Childhood Friends 2007-02-19 17:59:00 I got home late last night from a quick trip to see my family in Florida. I haven't been back home since I left the state in 2000! My dad had hip replacement surgery last week and is currently on the mend, but overall he is doing great. It was such a short visit, I didn't really have time to catch up with my friends but I did manage to spend a few hours with my bestfriend from childhood and her family. I can't believe I'm actually old enough to say, "I've known Shari for 27 years". Let me pause a moment to let that sink in....okay. I've known her since I was five, so it's not actually as bad as it seems. Hmmm? Am I justifying here? I'm just going to move on before this gets really pathetic (for instance, I actually thought to myself "but I don't feeeeeeel old"). See, pathetic. Moving on.Unfortunately, we grew apart and didn't really keep in touch until recently by sharing a few emails back and forth. Her parents still live in the same house accross the street wher Read more:Weekend

Cold and Rainy 2007-02-13 18:29:00 This past weekend Curtis and I went to San Diego to visit family. I planned on taking a lot of touristy pictures (Balboa Park, La Jolla and the beaches to name a couple), but it didn't work out as I originally thought. For one, I think I was too desperate to escape our Omaha snow, daydreaming for days prior of the beautiful Southern California weather I once called my own. Of course it was rainy, cold and overcast all weekend. I didn't allow the weather to get me down though, seeing family more than made up for it. It's also difficult to bring out the tourist side of me when I'm in San Diego because in many ways it feels so much like home to me. I really loved living there. I can't let myself get overly nostalgic, I have a new home now and am enjoying finding the brightside of living in the heartland. Most of the pictures I took were of Curtis' nephew. Unfortunetly, all of the pictures were taken indoors and at night, a combination I really do not like. It's a good thi
Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep 2007-02-07 21:38:00 I can't tell you how honored I am to be accepted as a participating photographer for 'Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep
'. I want very much to become active in my community, something I lacked doing back in Las Vegas. I have many goals for myself this year and among the top of the list is reaching out and extending my time and my love as much as I possibly can.
A Very Cold Sunday Morning 2007-02-05 00:43:00 I had a great time getting to know these two beautiful boys. Their house had such gorgeous light streaming through the windows. This is our real estate agent's family and she stopped by so it was a huge bonus to see her again. After a bit of a break because of the move, it was so nice to take pictures again. Read more:Morning

I Love Toddlers 2007-04-03 20:41:00 Meet my new friend. I dare you not to fall in love with his sunkissed red hair contrasted against the newly spring-green grass. He is such a cutie! I was running around chasing him like a mad woman. Mom and dad are great too, they were so sweet and accommodating. I love when parents just go with it, it makes for such a fun and spontaneous session. For instance, when I asked if it was possible to dump out the large basket containing loads of books and toys to bring it outside--no problem. We were inside, outside, inside again..we were just all over the place. I had my reflector set up in the dining room and when the little one was sitting in front of it, the light on his skin was gorgeous. This last shot is so fun. Dad was throwing him in the air and I cropped the bottom of the picture that had the top of dads hands and it turned out like this:It makes me want to go jump on a trampoline! On a side note, I'm still trying out new products and vendors. For this session I sent off Read more:Toddlers
Allergies Anyone? 2007-04-15 23:48:00 I'd like to rant for one second. My allergies are driving me insane. I have been feeling so under the weather lately, it's been difficult for me to get through my daily routine. I had a hard time with allergies in Vegas, but it is ten times worse here in Omaha. Stupid corn.A few months ago my doctor wrote a prescription for medication and my insurance denied it. DENIED. The reasoning was that since Claritin is over the counter now, they need documented proof over a reasonable time period that Claritin was not working for me. Stupid insurance. The only medications that seem to work are the ones that make me resemble a very moody zombie. It's probably not so much because the medicine works as much as it's the fact that I'm completely knocked out asleep.Anyway, on to better news. The weather is beautiful which makes my outdoor treks with the dogs so much more pleasant. I'm going to bring my camera this week during one of our walks to take some pics. This morning I got up pret Read more:Allergies

Sunday Morning at the Market 2007-04-17 03:27:00 Becky works at the same company where Curtis works. When she posted a message on their company's online bulletin board for recommendations for a photographer Curtis' inbox lit up with several messages from his coworkers forwarding the link. I immediately emailed her and we hit it off right away. She said she didn't want "the cookie cutter outlet places that give everyone the same old boring photo". Our morning was incredibly fun and we couldn't ask for a more perfect, almost windless day.Becky has beautiful blue eyes and I couldn't help but be envious of her full lips (which is probably a little weird to say but hey, I'm one that has considered restylane so whatever)Downtown Omaha has these great little shops and restaurants that have fabulous doors. This black door is one of my favorites:Loving the highlights from the sun on her hair:So I think the urban landscape helped greatly to get away from that "cookie cutter" syndrome.Back to editing the remainder of the proofs :) Read more:Sunday

Huge Picture Post Ahead 2007-04-18 18:42:00 As part of celebrating Curt's upcoming birthday tomorrow, I decided to bake for him and his coworkers. And bake I did. I started days before preparing and organizing. It started out pretty organized and I was determined to keep it that way::My first recipe was Scandinavian Almond Bars:: Encountered my first disaster by dropping half of the bars in the sink and on the floor in an attempt to get them to the cooling racks::Recovered from that and went onto Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies:: (getting a little messy, but still pre measuring my ingredients)Called it a night at 2am, but before going to bed I prepared the packaging and put the goodies in air tight containers for the night::Woke up a few hours later to make Strawberry Cupcakes and Strawberry Meringue Buttercream FrostingHere's a picture of the 8 egg whites that were folded into the cake batter::Finished baking just in time for Curt to go to work. Birthdays Galore 2007-04-23 05:32:00 Yesterday was Layla's 7th birthday! I've had her since she was a puppy and I couldn't even start to express how much joy she has brought to my life since. Here's a look at our day::Her birthday lunch--She did share but I think my beagle was getting a little impatient (I would love to know what she was thinking)--Of course there was shopping--And finally, Layla's favorite thing in the world, playing in the park with a tennis ball (I think her eyes are rolling to the back of her head)--Hope everyone's weekend was fabulous! Cuteness Overload 2007-05-03 23:29:00 I was so excited to meet the family I took pictures for last night. When mom emailed telling me she had a three month old, I couldn't wait. And let me tell you, this little girl was SO CUTE! She had the best disposition and the sweetest personality. When I first got to their house she was sound asleep in the cutest room I'd seen in a long time:Is there anything more peaceful than a sleeping baby? While she took a little nap, mom and dad got their pictures taken in the backyard:She woke up in a great mood:I love baby shoes:We headed to a nearby park to take a few more. I could take pictures of this little one all day long! A big thank you to mom and dad for making me feel so welcome and giving me a glimpse into your beautiful family. Read more:Cuteness
Gallery Wraps 2007-05-08 23:22:00 I ordered an 11x14 Gallery
Wrap of a picture I took of Curtis' niece and I love it. It's a product I would definitely recommend because it is so beautiful. The picture does not do it justice. I was highly impressed with the quality, the tone and the construction. The picture is almost three dimensional and alive. The only cons were that it is really expensive and it wraps the edges of the picture so not all prints will work depending on how the subjects fill the frame. If I remember correctly, I ordered the 1/4 inch thick wrap::This is a product that I am proud to hang in my living room.Speaking of living room, now that it's getting warmer, I'm able to purchase beautiful flowers and plants from the local nurseries. I got my feet wet with two orchids and I'm happy to say that they are doing very well and are remaining healthy!!***FOR MICHELLE :) ***Girl, get yourself set up with google reader! Google Reader 2007-05-08 03:35:00 I've been blogging for quite a while now, I think I started in 1999 or 2000. Since then I've started and abandoned several blogs, along with that I've followed my share of blogs that I've read on a regular basis. In the past, I had to save each blog to my favorites folder and click on each link individually to check for updates, wasting half of my time on viewing the same entry that I saw the last time I checked. GoogleReader
is the answer to my blogging dreams. It's like reading email with updated blogs that I subscribe to via RSS. I have several categories (beauty, journals crap *gossip*, photography etc. Here's a screen shot of what google reader looks like for me::::I had already read all the 'journals' section, that's why you don't see the tons of fabulous fellow life bloggers that I read on a regular basis (all of the sections are blogs but the journals section is other personal bloggers as opposed to hobby or interest blogs). The best part is that when a blog i Read more:Google Reader
The Good Life 2007-05-11 06:49:00 Nebraska's state slogan was originally "Nebraska...the good life" (it was just recently changed to something else but the original slogan is still on the Welcome to Nebraska sign). Now, I was completely prepared to not dispute the original state slogan. Quite the opposite, I fully intended to embrace it. Until I realized there's a major problem in Nebraska, Omaha specifically. Bugs and insects, namely TICKS. Omaha ticks don't mind their own business; they attack. I'm not kidding. The first couple of times I saw them, crawling on my arm, I had no idea what they were, in the toilet they went. On the night I came home from a hike and found SEVEN of them on my body, I naturally freaked out. Searched the internet, suspecting they were some kind of fat, flat flea. Found out that these invaders on my body were Lyme disease carrying Deer Ticks.I've had a small phobia since then. I wish I were exaggerating but I can honestly say I've lost sleep and think about deer ticks entirel
No Shame In My Game 2007-05-15 04:17:00 I had a euphoric moment when I realized that I didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars on books--every other week. I could check them out at the library. At first I resisted it, even talked myself out of it. I mean, if you have kids it makes perfectly good sense or if you're a student, I could see it. But to avoid spending money at the bookstore, well, that's rather cheap. When I figured out how much money I would save though, I marched myself right into the library and got myself a library card, just like I did when I was in elementary school. Now I have a library obsession. Unless I want to peruse through endless magazines, for free, which I still prefer to do at Borders, in the cafe with a nice tasty coffee beverage, I don't even need to look around. I have my books held for me by reserving them on the internet at home. So every couple of weeks I check Amazon.com's new and future release list and put anything that interests me on the list. Then the nice people at the

Thinking Out Loud... 2007-05-16 05:51:00 about ethanol.A couple of weeks ago I watched a 20/20 episode on whether several hot topics were myths, one of the topics being the current use and push for ethanol to replace foreign oil.My first instinct was full support for ethanol. It makes sense to use replenishable corn as fuel as opposed to fossil fuels. What I didn't take into account was the use of foreign oil required to produce the ethanol by fueling the tractors that process the corn and the trucks that transport the resource, which is negating any good ethanol production has at this point.Politically, the current support for ethanol by the 2008 candidates seems to be motivated by votes rather than environmental gain. Hillary Clinton was publicly opposed to ethanol until recently, and I can't help but think it's not the good of the environment that is on her political agenda.I just read an article by the Vice President for the American Coalition for Ethanol where he responded to the 20/20 show. I wanted him to defend
Improvements 2007-05-21 16:13:00 Last night I went to bed at 1AM. Improvement, yes. Ideal, not quite. I'm getting there. No more laptop in bed. That is the axis of evil for me. I read instead, a habit I think is perfectly suitable for avoiding staring at the ceiling counting all the things I shoulda, woulda, coulda. This morning I was up at 7:40AM. All I want to do right now is crawl back into my warm, heavenly bed. It's 9:18AM.Instead, I will change and take the dogs to the park where we will all walk two tired miles.Happy Monday.

Count the Seconds 2007-05-24 10:05:00 How cool is constant thunder and lightning? Being a transplanted desert rat, I have to reacquaint myself with the calming sounds of a nice thorough storm. Love it.Not so much loving having to stand outside in it while the dogs relieve themselves but I'll take the bad with the good.Four day weekend starting tomorrow. Curt and I had two choices. 1-Go on a nice weekend trip to exotic, far and away places...like Denver. Or 2-Paint the office.Much to my surprise I actually chose to paint. Not everyday I dismiss a spa retreat weekend full of pampering and treatments to lay tarp and roll green paint on four walls. But it has to be done and it's the right thing to do. Speaking of the "right thing to do", those words were spoken last night on the Dateline (I think?) special with Angelina Jolie. I'm pretty ambivalent in my opinions of her but I usually find on camera interviews with her interesting. So last night I was surprised I was kind of bored, I even fast forwarded some of it. Wednesday Meme 2007-05-23 16:12:00 Well. I successfully ordered, if one considers $423.00 a success, from Beauty.com. The problem yesterday was the sale wasn't until today. Now my only angst is waiting the 7-10 business days for my loot to arrive, some of which sing the sweet songs of Nars, Duwop, Caudalie, Frederic Fekkai...oh Frederic Fekkai and your Creme Luxueuse! Enough of that. It's Wednesday
so I've decided I will take this day to do one meme/questionnaire that's floating out there a week. I normally don't do them and I wasn't really sure what a meme was until I looked it up and found there are entire blog sites dedicated to them. Here's one I found::What new course would you like to see added to the nation's school curriculum? Just one? I think the nation's school curriculum could use a major rehaul. I would love to see more critical thinking, current politics and real life skills added to the secondary educational system so we can cultivate a generation that is able to think critically, ques
