For My Fellow Dog Owners 2007-08-31 03:17:00 Dear Dogs of Mine, It seems that lately things have gotten a smidge slack around here. I feel it is time to remind you of the rules that heretofore we have operated under. You are all cute dogs, but your continued cuteness in no way negates our previous agreement. Let me remind you of a few details of this agreement. 1. In exchange for room and board, you are to guard the kingdom. That would be guarding the kingdom from any and all bad guys, robbers, serial killers, etc. Feel free to bark maniacally at any of those that should appear. Guarding the kingdom does NOT include barking maniacally at bunnies, squirrels, cows, sheep and invisible things that only you can see, especially between the hours of 5am (when I stumble out of bed to let you out) and 8am (when I actually have to get out of bed).(And let me take a moment here to remind you that the pizza guy is a potential bad guy. He is not your friend. Just because he comes bearing food does not allow him free and easy access to the ki Read more:Owners
Stolen 2007-08-30 16:05:00 Stolen from a dear friend who stole it from someone's Myspace::"Truth is absolute on its own, but with grace it is love."
Settled In 2007-09-25 14:11:00 Making our roots in Encinitas, a quaint little coastal town just north of San Diego. I know I'm bragging here, but being able to see the Pacific Ocean on my daily walks with the dogs or my drive to the grocery store is an amazing thing. We made the drive in two days and somewhere along the way I picked up a nasty cold/flu. I haven't been able to respond to any emails but I'm hoping to get that fixed this afternoon.Going to IKEA this afternoon. So typical.I wish I could hire someone to unpack.I have to finish up my last two clients in Omaha. My first San Diego client is next week along with a wedding in Vegas for a friend. Happy Tuesday!
Showin Some Love to My Omaha Readers 2007-09-17 16:24:00 I'm doing a give away, this time not with $50 beauty products but furniture!I have an absolutely beautiful Armoire that I can not take with me. It's a designer piece and very lightly used. It weighs about 700 pounds so bring some muscle if you want it. Here's a picture when it was in my guest bedroom in Vegas (it's the armoire in the corner). It has plenty of room for a large sized TV, but I used it as my scrapbooking storage unit:::: I'm also giving away a custom made wrought iron bench that was made for my courtyard in the Vegas house. Then there's the IKEA desk, that's more like a work center for two people. It's hard to explain, I'll post a picture as soon as I can. It's a pretty significant desk, it takes up an entire room. It comes with two under desk filing cabinets and two wall mounted shelves. Two office chairs also need a new home.We have a 58" Panasonic plasma that is so expensive to ship and we are trying to sell it. If you need a decadent TV, let Read more:Showin

Bitter Sweet 2007-09-17 00:28:00 It was so great seeing yesterday's family but it was also a bit emotional as it is my last session as a resident of Nebraska. I adore all of my clients--honestly, I really do but there's a special place in my heart for the first couple of families I met here. Speaking of special places in my heart, here's a little boy I don't think I will ever forget--remember him:::I'm pretty sure I've never captured an "inside" joke before but this picture would definitely qualify as my first:::We went to the lake and walked down the trail where we were in search of squirrels, rabbits and of course, GIRLS.Little Mr. Fearless, there was no ledge too high:::And I mean FEARLESS. He was on his way down in this pic, I kid you not:::Two of my all time favorites:::Now, off to pack. Move date is Thursday!! Read more:Bitter

South Bend, NE 2007-09-05 03:29:00 South Bend, Nebraska. Population 92. Really, I saw the sign.I was in South Bend last night for a photo session and I loved it! One of the best parts was seeing the very first family I took pictures for in Omaha. I had a great time and have a ton of pictures to get through so I thought I'd post a handful here in the blog since it will take a couple days to complete them all.2 of the 92 residents of South Bend:With their dog Murphy:One of the happiest dogs in Nebraska, I'm sure of it.One of my favorite families in Nebraska, this I'm also sure of.Love this group shot. When I look at it, I keep thinking there's a white sandy beach at the end of the bridge:::Closest thing I've seen to a beach around here:::With kids, I don't always care about the smiles and poses, what I love more than anything else is eye contact and this is precisely why:::Two of my favorites from the session:::This picture makes my heart skip a beat, it's so sweet:::I had so much fun last night and am loving Read more:South
Labor Free on Labor Day 2007-09-03 16:27:00 So it's Labor Day, a day of rest. Doesn't a Mojito sound fabulous right now. I haven't had one yet but I plan on indulging before the day is over. I've never gotten too attached to Labor Day but it's funny that, of the 9 or so government holidays it's one of the three that I know exactly when it occurs. Honestly, I think it's pretty much a meaningless holiday but that's probably because in the past I've had to work most of them. I think Labor Day wages should be tax free. I also think it's silly that people get so bent out of shape about wearing white after today. I remember my Aunt, in her thick southern accent, saying "you must never wear white shoes after Labor Day". Besides tennis shoes and flip flops, who the hell has white shoes? I can't think of one single outfit where white patent leather pumps would look good.Watch white patent leather pumps be the next fashion trend or maybe they already are. Shows you how little I know.
1968...2007. The Shameful Same 2007-09-02 21:33:00 This is a time of shame and sorrow. It is not a day for politics. I have saved this one opportunity, my only event of today, to speak briefly to you about the mindless menace of violence in America which again stains our land and every one of our lives. It is not the concern of any one race. The victims of the violence are black and white, rich and poor, young and old, famous and unknown. They are, most important of all, human beings whom other human beings loved and needed. No one - no matter where he lives or what he does - can be certain who will suffer from some senseless act of bloodshed. And yet it goes on and on and on in this country of ours. Why? What has violence ever accomplished? What has it ever created? No martyr's cause has ever been stilled by an assassin's bullet. No wrongs have ever been righted by riots and civil disorders. A sniper is only a coward, not a hero; and an uncontrolled, uncontrollable mob is only the voice of madness, not the voice of reason.Whenever any
Weight On Weight Off 2007-09-27 23:12:00 One night, when I was working as a police dispatcher in North Las Vegas, I was talking to one of the officers who mentioned how funny he thought it was that so many women who moved to Las Vegas from California gained so much weight. He based this on the hot little pictures on their California driver's licenses and how he always had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't a fake ID. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to fall out of the chair because he was pretty much describing me. I gained a ton of weight my first two years in Vegas and steadily gained each year after that. This is a pretty embarrassing subject for me and I'm surprised I'm even mentioning it here, but I feel it's a way of keeping me in check and in reality. I'm very good at denial and my weight is no exception. I thought I'd post a picture of me in Balboa Park, pre-Vegas, to show how far from healthy I've gone. Even in the picture, I'm not at my ideal weight but I was SO much more comfortable i Read more:Weight
Bad Sunnee 2007-10-09 11:40:00 I've been a bad blogger! I have many, many picture posts coming very soon.Spent this past weekend in Vegas for my dear friend Dawn's wedding. It was a blast and so good to see my friends!Pictures-pictures-pictures--I promise!!! soon.
Let the Beach Sessions Begin 2007-10-17 00:48:00 Here are a couple from a recent beach session:::These were done at Torrey Pines and I must say, I need a lot of practice taking beach pictures. Lots. Different critter out there in the open sun. Lots of potential, but I'm not where I want to be with the images so far. Tomorrow I have a retirement party that I'm photographing and I'm happy to say I'm almost done with the Vegas proofs! Read more:Beach

Costco to the ER in Two Minutes 2007-10-15 20:40:00 Today was not a fun day. The short end of it was I ended up in the ER with Curt's Grandma who fainted while the two of us were at Costco
minding our own business buying bulk Tide. With her being 79, any health related scare is a HUGE deal and I was quite worried for a while there. She is fine and wonderfully resting in her recliner at home. One thing I relearned about myself-I am eerily calm in stressful situations. I'm sure all the 911 disaster calls I once took helped in that department. Tomorrow is going to be a better day.
As Promised 2007-10-14 22:13:00 I thought I would post pictures of two gorgeous baby girls who happen to be family. Curtis' youngest sister had her little girl a wee bit early and we did her newborn session a few weeks ago. Meet preemie Ava:I love little baby toes:Then I took Kayla's 2 month pictures. Remember Kayla:Here she is for her two month pics:It's great being so close to them to see them grow.I've been working on my Vegas wedding proofs. Thank You 2007-10-25 23:44:00 Thank you to everyone who emailed, texted, called or commented about my safety in regards to the fire situation.I feel very grateful to be spared the tragedy of leaving home and leaving everything behind. I count my blessings every morning and pray for those who have not been so fortunate. On the lighter side of things, here are some pictures from last weekend, right before the tragedy broke. Even at the beach we could see the first evidence of the smoke. This was way before the chaos erupted and all of us thought it was just an isolated fire beyond the mountain.I'm amazed by the fog here. Sunday morning on the back porch. I looked out and could not see anything but the neighbor's house below us:::Then just five minutes later, it started to lift:::So much color in SoCal:::Almost ripe. I love picking fruits and vegetables from a home garden:::I can't figure out how to take a picture of this one without standing almost directly above her. If I get down on her level, she refuse Read more:Thank
The Roof The Roof 2007-10-22 15:48:00 Woke up this morning to this--Taken from the backyard at 8am:It suddenly got eerily red in the house, bizarre red (all taken through my bedroom window because I didn't feel like inhaling the smoke):::The edge of the smoke. That was at 8am this morning, now the entire sky from here is covered. We haven't been evacuated yet. We're at the top of the hills so there is a very good chance. We did help family leave that live in Carlsbad. We're just one city south of them.I SO DO NOT WANT TO EVACUATE. This never happened in Omaha.
Halloween Part II 2007-11-02 15:44:00 More pictures from Wednesday night. These are Curtis' other sister's adorable kids:::If you know me in person, I think you would agree that I could pass this one off as my own:::I love this one:::The newest addition to the family, baby Ava (the basket preemie from a previous post):::And of course here's Mikey, who is so accustom to his Auntie shoving a camera in his face. He really is amazingly comfortable in front of my lens:::He went as Diego from "Go Diego Go", but was missing part of his costume:::Have a great weekend!!! Read more:Halloween
Happy Halloween 2007-11-01 00:54:00 Tonight Curt and I went down to Point Loma where Curt's dad lives to see all the kids dressed up. We had so much fun and there was so much love and laughter in the air. Everyone was in a great mood and the night flew by so fast. Here are the first group of pictures of Kayla as a bumble bee. Blink, it's November 2007-11-12 21:52:00 I swear I blinked and woke up in almost the middle of November
. I've had a busy couple of days. Yesterday I drove to Temecula to have lunch with a fabulous friend whose wedding I shot last month.Earlier today I drove to Banning for a family session for an ex coworker. I decided to drive to Palm Springs after I was done since it was so close and I'd never been there. The windmills along the highway on the way there was by far the best part.Since I'm completely exhausted I'll just close with a few pictures from the wedding. I'll post more tomorrow! My favorite 'walk away' picture to date::: Read more:Blink
Ahhh, the Aroma 2007-11-15 19:45:00 The amount of happiness that consumed my entire body when I blissfully stumbled upon the holiday menu at Starbucks leaves a lot to be said about how easily my mood can be altered.I have two favorites. 1-the caramel apple cider and 2-the eggnog latteSo I closed my eyes, pretending the 80 degree weather with plentiful streaming sunshine was actually a brisk, snowy day in the middle of winter and sipped my first eggnog latte of the season. Heaven. This is the only time of the year I get excited over Starbucks. At heart, I'm a The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf kinda girl.
A Few Things 2007-11-14 20:16:00 Just some random thoughts, in no particular order.Worried about my dad. He had pneumonia last week and the chest xray showed a nodule on his lung, which could be nothing but of course I fear cancer. I wish he had a better primary care doctor, but he is stubborn and refuses to change doctors. Dr. can't see him until Friday.Had to reschedule my Las Vegas trip. Camera is not working properly. It's on it's way to Canon for a tune up. Fell head-over-heels for the Showtime series 'Californication'. Best series I've seen in a long time. If you have Showtime on Demand, please watch it, you won't be disappointed.Reading 'The Secret'. It's pretty good, nothing new really but it is a nice dose of inspiration. Read 'Freakonomics' and loved it. Next up is 'Middlesex'.Too lazy to add hyperlinks, so sorry.Maybe spending several weeks to months in Florida, depending on how my Dad's health is. Made reservations for Omaha December 2nd - December 9th. Not sending emails out to clients for
Sneak Peak 2007-11-14 01:16:00 I'm posting a sneak peak for Darcie. I thought I would be completely done with all the edits from yesterday's session tonight, but I had double the amount of keepers I thought I would. So here's a sweet family that I am honored to have met. The day was terribly windy for photos but a few were spared during the brief moments of calmness.Under an incredible tree that I fell in love with:::I also fell in love with the most precious baby girl:::Darcie's very sweet brother who has the most amazing blue eyes:::Gorgeous Darcie and equally gorgeous kids:::Thank you to Darcie and her family for the great time and warm memories!
Thanksgiving and Oatmeal Raisin 2007-11-20 22:08:00 This week has been all about food, baking and making no apologies for indulging. At any given minute during the last two days, you could have caught me with either a spatula or a cookie sheet in hand. Thanksgiving
is my favorite holiday, no surprise since it is almost synonymous with food. I have no shortage of blessings and since I make a huge effort to be grateful on a daily basis, I don't get too into going around the table announcing my most cherished feelings of gratitude. Most of the time, that which I am truly grateful is extremely personal and I would rather share it with a very close friend or family member on a random day over a cup of tea and french Madeline's. But generally speaking, I'm with many others in celebrating this day and being grateful for family, friends and health. In case I don't get to post again until after Thursday, I hope that those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving have a happy and safe one. Since I don't have a picture to go with this post, let me s Read more:Oatmeal

The Bali Hai, Las Vegas 2008-03-10 23:16:00 Since my last post was somewhat of a downer, I thought I'd uplift the mood around here a little bit and post some pictures from the Vegas
wedding. The wedding was eloquent and the Bali Hai was more than perfect for an afternoon wedding. It felt like a tropical island on the Las Vegas
Strip. Honestly, the atmosphere was like nothing I'd ever felt before in Vegas. A different kind of classiness. If you're thinking about running off to Vegas to get married, the Bali Hai Golf Club is definitely worth checking out. In no particular order-Gorgeous dress with great details:Maid of Honor looking gorgeous. How much do I love her dimples:The bride working some killer backlighting, not to mention some serious va va va voom:Bride's son as sweet as he can be. I took his pictures about two years a
I Wish Life Were an R.E.M Song 2008-03-10 13:35:00 I feel very torn today. I want so badly to have a shiny, happy day. Yet, it seems like the world is coming apart at the seams. It's difficult for me to watch the news because it effects me so deeply. I haven't really perfected the ability to just listen then tune it out, as if the news were a work of fiction. At the same time, I am crippled in a state of static in that I don't actually do anything about the horror that I see. I don't write enough congressman, I don't champion enough causes. So it seems as if I'm digesting all of this terrible news stuff without effectively expelling it. I was in Omaha in December when the shootings happened at the mall. I completely checked out. I don't think I posted on this blog for over a month because everything I would begin to write seemed
