Before I planted these and set them on the windowsill to grow I wanted to paint them. I like their shape, the earthiness of the color and the shagginess of their roots. I had them sitting on a table in front of a window and the morning light was pouring in behind them providing a lot of contrast, and contrast is exactly what they will provide when they are blooming on the windowsill against a backdrop of snow and freezing cold. Cheery daffodils will be a welcome site in my livingroom in the dead of winter. I may get inspired and do a number of paintings documenting their growth and bloom, look for them in the weeks and months ahead. Enjoy!

The colors are definitely more subdued now. We've had very mild temps but very gray, weather with fog, mist and rain. I didn't use any white in this painting because I forgot to bring it with me LOL!! But it seemed to work out well since it was so overcast. Enjoy!

Gray skies and high tide on this November morning. The whole time I was painting a Belted Kingfisher was noisily keeping me company. That is one of my favorite parts of painting outside getting to see different kinds of birds and animals up close. I'm very quiet and still when I paint and most wildlife doesn't seem to mind me being in their territory. It all a part of the beautiful experience of plein air painting. Enjoy!

Look at all those subtle colors out there!! After all the firey colors of October my eyes are resting and feasting on the more subtle shades of November. Painting outdoors really allows you to appreciate every season, every month has its own glories. I used to hate winter, so cold and gray and brown, but now I have a much deeper understanding of the winter season. Now it represents solitude stillness and a quiet patience, as if nature is holding her breath until spring. Enjoy!

Ah, time for Christmas cookies! For years and years when my kids were young we made gingerbread men from scratch each Christmas. At first when they were very little they just globbed on the icing and candy decorations LOL but as they got older their creations became beautiful and elaborate. One year we even made an entire gingerbread nativity scene complete with gingerbread sheep, camels and donkeys! These little guys are store bought and while not quite as special as our homemade ones they still bring a smile to my face as I think back on all the Christmasses gone by when an army of gingerbread men descended on my kitchen every December.
