Eye makeup tips. 2007-04-27 00:40:43 The other day, some of my mama friends on a message board were talking about makeup. Eye makeup in particular, and someone was asking for a mini-tutorial on how to apply liquid eyeliner. This led to a whole discussion about eye makeup and eyeliner - is it “out” to put mascara and liner on your bottom lashes? What about putting eyeliner inside your eyes? Are you supposed to pull your eyelid taut when applying liquid eyeliner? This is all so hard to figure out when you’re a 30-something mom - it was WAY easier when I was sixteen, sitting on my bed, listening to Bobby Brown and teasing the hell out of my hair with Bold Hold hairspray! Of course, back then, the “in” look was that weird electric blue mascara - thank God that isn’t in style anymore! I really had a hard time pulling it off in 1989; I have no doubt I’d look like a total clown today.
Luckily for moms like me, who have no sense of what is hip and cool anymore, there are sites online that

Embarrassing Things I’ve Done
Farted loudly at a sporting goods store, in front of a bunch of cute guys looking at kayaking gear. Hey, I was a thousand months pregnant with twins!
Said “AC/DC” instead of “LSD” in a speech about teenage drug use when I was in high school.
Had an embarrassingly flirty conversation with my ex-husband’s best friend, back when we were just dating and we were all volunteering for the Bolder Boulder, a 10K race here. We were chatting via one of those Motorola radio things. I didn’t realize that EVERYONE with a radio could hear us talking, including my ex, and dozens of other volunteers - until someone pointed it out to me, over the radio.
Joked around with someone about looking at porn on his laptop at work, during my first week, before I realized he was a VP.
Had an underwire pop out of my bra and maneuver itself around my boobie, up my chest, and out the collar of my shirt. I somehow didn’t rea Read more:Thursday
Nobody ever talks about this. 2007-04-26 16:28:47 Okay, so - obviously I’m not afraid to blog about embarrassing topics! I want to talk about something that most women like myself - meaning, mommies - particularly twin mommies - have to deal with to some degree. Hemorrhoids! I escaped getting any the first time I had a baby, but I was not so lucky after my second and third pregnancy. Do you even know what hemorrhoids are? They’re varicose veins around your booty. Yeah, right in the little special area, there. And it’s very common to get them after the strain of pushing out a baby (or two, or five!) You may not realize, though, that they also can appear even if you have a c-section. Just the added weight of carrying a baby can put a lot of pressure on you there. I actually didn’t get any until a little while after I delivered Pablo and Mallory - I think just from the added strain of carrying two babies up and down a flight of stairs over and over, day after day. By the time I had Nikki and Lexi - oh, dude. It wa Read more:Nobody
Poetry. 2007-04-26 06:54:31 I completely forgot that Julie tagged me for a little meme, where I have to post an original poem. The rule is that the first line has to be Roses are Red. Eeek! The pressure.
Okay, here goes:
Roses are red

Yeah, I Googled you too. ;-) 2007-04-26 06:38:13 I was just checking out an article about Googling potential dates, all about using search engines to provide safe date background checks. It discussed the ethics and fairness involved in Googling someone you don’t really know, and how you could potentially find out information you don’t want to know about - particularly things that are outdated or are no longer true. The author mentioned how before the internet, people actually had to take risks when dating. Nowadays, everyone is so paranoid, we have to investigate the hell out of anyone and anything before we dip our toe in the pool!
And I fully admit to doing this. I am a Google obsessed woman! I Google every single person I know - Kayley’s teachers, Paul’s coworkers, my neighbors and friends, old boyfriends, old acquaintances, etc. etc. etc. Part of it is that I know just how many freaks there are out there in the world, and I obviously want to protect myself and my family from them. Part of it is that I&rsqu
They’re killin’ me! 2007-04-25 21:31:58 We live in a fairly new development, and we have probably a dozen or more stores all around us that are currently under construction. The biggie is a row of BIG stores across from our new Home Depot. Then there’s a somewhat smaller building right down the way…and another sort of fast food looking building down the way from there…and a handful of other stores here and there. And only ONE store has a sign out front saying what it’s going to be. The end store on the row of big stores has a hand-lettered address sign that says, Best Buy. Yay! A Best Buy!
When I saw that sign a week or so ago, I immediately called Paul, to share my discovery! He said, “That’s why they put the sign up, to keep nosy housewives like you from driving around the construction area, trying to figure it out!” And I’m sure he’s right! So, WHY, then, are they the only ones spilling the beans?? Don’t they know I NEED TO KNOW?? Don’t they know the sus
Field Day. 2007-05-02 00:37:40 Today was a fun, busy day for the kids. The whole family went to field day at Pablo’s school! Paul and I, along with the girls and Pablo, spent all morning out in the sunshine and fresh air, and it was so much fun. For me, anyway. Ha! Paul hates this sort of thing. I’m not 100% sure why he wanted to come, since he seemed like he wasn’t enjoying himself too much.
It’s just another event that’s leading up to the end of the school year, which I can’t believe is here already. It feels like I was *just* scrambling around, trying to find uniform shirts and pants for Pablo, and now he’s a month away from finishing up. And same with Kayley. Sixth grade has passed by in a blur!
I put up a bunch of cute pictures on Flickr, but you have to be a friend to view them - there are lots of pictures of Pabo’s school and other kids, so I didn’t want to make them public.

Thank God for naptime. 2007-04-30 22:19:22 I don’t know what the deal is today. First of all, I can’t seem to get motivated to get anything done at all. My house is a sty. I haven’t even had my shower yet. And I don’t know if the kids are picking up on my mood or if it’s their naughtiness that’s just bringing me down, but DUDE. I was ready to beat some children come naptime. They fought all morning long. Mallory backtalked so many times I finally had to tell her, “Stop talking now. Just stop.” She said, “No.” Nikki was being such a butthead to everyone - stealing their toys, running away with them, and then throwing them over the baby gate into the Forbidden Zone, also known as the living room. Pablo refused to pee in the toilet - just flat out refused. Then stood there and peed his pants, right in front of me. Lexi kept getting pissed off at everyone - and rightly so, since she kept getting her toys snatched away - but she has the shrillest, loudest, most horrific scr Read more:Thank
Spring cleaning thoughts, here. 2007-04-30 21:47:00 So, we’ve lived in our house for…coming up on four years now. And during that entire time, I’ve had to listen to Pauly tell me how much he wants a pressure washer, over and over again - for four years now! He’s so danged particular, too. He has something very specific in mind. I don’t even know what it is, but I have no doubt it’s gigantic, noisy, and will require more maintenance than the motorcycle.
I so badly wish I could just sway his opinion about “more power!” and get him to buy an electric pressure washer instead of holding out for the perfect gas pressure washer. First of all, I’m just not that clever when it comes to gas powered motors. I can barely start the lawnmower - if it weren’t for that little magic button that pushes the gas where it needs to go, I really don’t think I could do it. I know I can’t start up the weed eater! And in a way, these are good things. Means I don’t have to get out the Read more:Spring

And now, it’s warm. 2007-04-30 19:00:08 Yesterday was the most gorgeous day! Actually, the whole weekend was really nice. It was 84 degrees here yesterday! Sharp contrast to the rain, wind, and snow we had just a couple of days ago! I put the kids in last year’s swimsuits (I think we need bigger ones!) and slicked ‘em all up with sunscreen, and daddy got out the baby pool. We sat under a canopy and watched the kids play in the pool for hours - they were so worn out, they took a GREAT nap for me later on! Woohoo! Then, Paul and his dad put up the trampoline, so they had even more fun stuff to do when they woke up. I put a few pictures of the kids on Flickr if you want to see. They had a blast!

Mouse envy. 2007-04-30 07:09:48 You know, I read a lot of blogs. And it seems like I am *always* reading about someone going to Disneyworld. Like, every week, someone I know is going on vacation there or is booking reservations for an upcoming trip, or is just talking about renting out houses or condos or Orlando Villas to stay at while vacationing. My husband’s niece and her family are there RIGHT NOW! And of course, my oldest daughter spent spring break there with her dad and his family. And you know what? I’m a little tired of hearing about it! Only because I’m getting so crazy jealous that I’ve never been there, and probably won’t get to go anytime soon. Booooo, hooooo, hoooo.
Did you know I visited World Famous Blogger Colleen for her surprise 30th birthday celebration last summer? Yeah. And we actually stayed at a Disney hotel. I have Visa receipts that say “Disneyworld” on them, from the hotel gift shop and paying my lodging bill. But we never entered the park or anyth Read more:Mouse
I couldn’t take it anymore. 2007-04-30 06:53:25 When the kids went down for a nap today, I grabbed Kayley and we ran out to get her a haircut. I was so tired of seeing her scraggly, tangled hair! The child hadn’t had a haircut since September, right after school started! Nothing like procrastination, eh? And, while we were there, she mentioned that she really could stand to get her eyebrows waxed again, since they were starting to “grow back together.” Hehe! So, we got that done, too. And, here she is!

Online backups. 2007-04-30 04:05:34 Guess what I got today? A new computer! Woohoo! Well, a new to me computer. With dual processors, so my computer won’t hang when I’m doing graphics stuff. Yippee! I need to backup all my stuff so I can get my new machine all ready to go. I always dread trying to remember everything to back up! Once when I reformatted, I forgot to back up my fonts, and lost hundreds and hundreds of fonts that I loved - I’m just now accumulating some that I lost, years ago! It’s always so exciting to start over new, though, isn’t it?
Anyway, I was just checking out some Online Backup services. Until like, five minutes ago, I didn’t even realize this was an option - you can use the free version of IDrive-E and get 2GB of remote backup space, for your pictures or MP3s or whatever. Isn’t that a great idea? It never occurred to me that I could upload all my stuff somewhere, other than to a folder on my domain or something. If you need more than 2GB of space, you can
Random Thursday Thoughts. 2007-05-04 00:47:09 - Have you seen that show on Disney called Johnny and the Sprites? It used to be a short little segment that they played between other programs, and I always perked right up when I heard the theme song, because the guy playing Johnny was such a hottie. My fellow twin mama friend Becca always calls him her boyfriend! Anyway, now it’s an actual full length show, although I hadn’t ever seen it because I guess it’s only on Saturdays? Well, I just noticed that OnDemand has Disney Channel shows available now, so we’ve spent quite a bit of time watching Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. But I noticed Johnny and the Sprites listed there too, so we watched an episode last night. HOLY HELL. It is so completely annoying - they sing lame songs the entire time, and it’s just - lame. And annoying. And lame. And for some reason? Johnny isn’t hot like he used to be! His hotness has decreased substantially. I can’t put my finger on exactly why. Is it Read more:Random

What’s the weather like? 2007-05-03 23:40:39 Remember a few years ago when everyone had a Weather Pixie on their blog? I think that site is still around, because I occasionally will still see one in somebody’s sidebar!
As times have changed, so have the weather
icons you can place on your site! Nowadays, you can put up a fancy-pants weather widget that goes far beyond simply displaying the temperature. The AccuWeather.com® netWeather v3.0™ is a nifty little tool you can totally customize - it’s available in 9 different sizes, with several different themes to choose from. It’s super easy to set up; you just set a few preferences and enter your zip code, and then you can pick which size box you want to appear on your site. The size you pick will determine how much information is shown. Lookie, here’s the one I made:
Weather Forecast | Weather Maps | Weather Radar
And it’s totally free - you don’t even have to create an account, just set the preferences you want and copy/paste the cod

Things I’m Looking Forward to when School is Over
1. Not having to rush, rush, rush in the morning to get out the door and get everyone to school. Duh! I can’t wait to have nice, leisurely breakfasts with the kids, where we might eat scrambled eggs or waffles or oatmeal, instead of dry cereal. Also? I’m very excited about having time to shower before we run out the door. I’ve had my share of Wal-Mart excursions where I look like absolute crap, thank you very much.
2. Not having to constantly spot treat/wash/hang tiny little khakis and polo shirts. Pablo looks positively adorable in his uniform, but I’m ready to see him in Spongebob t-shirts and jean shorts once in awhile.
3. Three months away from the hell that is trying to find a parking place in the mornings, so I can drop off Pablo. That’s the worst, isn’t it? Man, I forgot how much easier it was when the daycare van dropped off and picked up Kayley!!
4. Playdates! Playdates! Playd Read more:Thursday
Mustache tattoo? 2007-05-02 19:01:10 Have you guys heard about the new trend in tattoo
s that’s sweeping the nation, the mustache tattoo? I think it’s so silly and funny and original - I guess once everyone has one, it won’t be so original anymore, but for now - it’s just cracking me up!! I love how people immediately take on that whole Frenchman personality as soon as they have it. So funny!
Whee! 2007-05-05 00:12:28 SUCH a splendid day, which I have no time to write about. Hee!
We went to the zoo with some of our favorite people and had a BLAST. Now the kids are taking a little nap and I’m waiting for my mom to get her to watch them so I can go to happy hour with my hubby! Woohoo!
::whispering:: 2007-05-09 16:06:22 My throat hurts! And my voice is about gone! I hate this. I woke up at 4 this morning (having a crazy dream about people I know online!) and had to find the Chloraseptic spray. Luckily, I fell back asleep pretty quickly - that usually doesn’t happen. So I’m not too groggy this morning. Still, though, I’m so annoyed that I have a sore throat. I never get sick! And nobody is sick but me! What the hell?
Oh, and I have a question. 2007-05-08 22:52:38 How do you pronounce “wikipedia?” Is it like “why-key” or “wicky?”
Ten on Tuesday. 2007-05-08 22:46:34 Today’s 10 on Tuesday
theme is, “Ten Things Most People Don’t Know About You” … um…what does that say about me, when I can’t come up with ten things you don’t know about me?? Everything I want you to know, you already know. Anything you don’t know about, I ain’t tellin’!
Okay, I’ll give it a shot.
Ten Things Most People Don’t Know About Me
1. I’m terrified of bees. Did you already know that?
2. I don’t usually get grossed out when I have to clean up poop or puke. Good thing, too.
3. However, taking out the garbage is hard for me. Especially if there’s an old chicken package in there or something.
4. I put my shoes on as soon as I get out of bed and I don’t take them off until I get undressed for bed.
5. The same can be said for my bra.
6. I love smells like paint thinner, pine-sol, and any sort of industrial strength solvent. Reminds me of my dad when I was little.
7. I used to steal
Thoughts on rehab. 2007-05-08 22:25:56 I was talking to my sister on the phone last night on the way to my meeting - seems like that’s the only time I ever get to spend on the phone, uninterrupted - when I’m alone in the car! I told her the bad news about our old friend Tommy and she reacted just like I did - so sad, but really not surprised, given the lifestyle he led.
It’s actually an interesting contrast, comparing him with my sister. Both had crazy childhoods, were always in trouble, got wrapped up in drugs at an early age, and both became completely swallowed in their addiction to meth. Yet, we somehow got Kim back. She somehow extracted herself from the hell she was in, and got clean. And Tommy never was able to get away from it, and now his family is devastated and consumed by grief. How does one person find it within them to get clean, and another person doesn’t? Is it the luck of the draw? With Kim, I think she was “scared straight,” for lack of a better term. She was right at t
Happy Tuesday! 2007-05-08 18:16:02 Um, hi! I guess I haven’t posted in four days. Whoops! Don’t worry, I didn’t get tied up and held hostage by my children or anything. They only do that to Paul!
The kids and I went to the zoo on Friday with RaeJean and her kids. We had a super time! Coincidentally, Kayley’s babysitter, aka My Friend Heather, took Kayley and Taylor to the zoo because they didn’t have school. So we all kind of hung out together! My kids were really into the elephants and monkeys this time - particularly watching them pee and poop - ha! And they LOVED the train. It was great to hang out with RaeJean for awhile - we never get to hang out much anymore, with our kids’ opposite schedules. I’m looking forward to doing more stuff over the summer!
Friday night was fun - I went to Happy
Hour with Paul and Angie showed up too. We started out with a big group and people kept leaving and our table got smaller and smaller until there were just a handful of us. Angie conv Read more:Tuesday
God, I smell good. 2007-05-11 07:38:42 I was at my meeting the other night and I ran into a friend of mine, Shauna, who I haven’t seen for awhile. Our kids are really close in age, like 12 days apart, so I wish we could hang out more often. She’s so sweet! Anyway. She smelled so good, I couldn’t decide if I wanted to make out with her or take a bite out of her arm. She smelled so yummy, I had to ask her WHY she smelled so good, whether it was her hairspray or her fragrance or her fabric softener or what. She laughed (uh, nervously) and told me it was her Bath & Body Works lotion.
So then I got home and I couldn’t remember what she said it was! I polled all my mommy message board friends today to find out their favorite B&BW fragrance, and man - I can’t believe how many completely different responses I got! No wonder they have eight thousand scents - each and every one of them is adored by somebody! Probably lots of somebodies, I guess.
So, I actually ventured out to Bath & Body Wor
Why I’m using a crayon. 2007-05-11 07:06:04 I hate the big stupid bucket of pens in the kitchen cupboard. Every time I reach in and grab one, it doesn’t work! And they seem to be having pen babies in there, because I throw them away when they run dry! Yet we have a disproportionate amount of pens that don’t work, and it makes absolutely no sense to me. What happened to the BAG full of marketing pens we snagged from the home and garden show? All those little blue and green translucent pens from Xcel energy? Gone, I guess. It’s so annoying.
