A Better Way To Build
2008-08-31 06:57:00
We just completed a 30-minute marketing video for a innovative building product - the RASTRA Wall System. Designed for homes and commercial buildings, a RASTRA wall is made of 85% recycled stryrofoam and concrete, and therefore provides a much higher R-value than traditional wood frame walls with fiberglass insulation. And not only is a RASTRA home more energy-efficient, but it also stands up t

Nine Indicators Make For Killer Package
2008-08-27 15:38:00
Everything you need to know about "swing trading" can be found in a new multimedia course we just completed for Wealthpire, Inc. It's called the Killer 9 System for High Probability Trading, and it covers nine "technical indicators" that stock traders consult when selecting a stock to buy or sell. The course is comprised of two DVDs, two audio CDs with a workbook, and a resource manual wr

Canadians Not Loose With Their Loonies
2008-08-25 13:40:00
We learned something about Canadian consumers during this past weekend's appearances on The Shopping Channel in Toronto. They tend to carefully consider a purchase. When we present a product on QVC in the States, people call in during the show and immediately buy the product. On the Canadian Shopping Channel, the calls tend to come in after the show is over. So, I assume the buyers are doi

Getting Oriented in Toronto
2008-08-22 16:13:00
We went through the on-air orientation this morning at The Shopping Channel in Toronto . Very friendly people with a similar (but smaller) setup to QVC. Was surprised to see TVs in the Green Room with QVC and HSN on - but they aren't really competitors since I don't think they overlap in coverage. I'm scheduled for three appearances this Sunday, and hope to catch a Toronto Blue Jays game on Satu

Podcast Breaks Into the Top 20
2008-08-20 16:14:00
Congratulations to Lisa B. Marshall! Her latest series of podcasts, the Public Speaker, just broke into the iTunes Top 20. Lisa was one of my first podcast clients almost two years ago. Her podcasts offer quick, practical tips that help you become a better public speaker. You can subscribe to the podcasts (and hear my recorded intro/outro) at Lisa's site. Real or Fake?
2008-08-11 07:53:00
Can you tell from looking at this pic of me on QVC this past weekend? No, I'm not talking about my hair (that's real, thank you). Is the tan real or fake? The truth is that the QVC stylists usually spray paint your face with this brownish gunk to give you a golden glow. You wouldn't think I would need it since I live at the Jersey shore, and get to the beach a least a couple times a week .

Shop Till You Drop
2008-08-04 12:08:00
I've been confirmed for four appearances on The Shopping Channel on August 24th in Toronto (so I'm practicing my Canadian - "a-boot"). This is another pitch for Honestech's product VHS to DVD. It will be interesting to see how it compares to QVC. My QVC appearances last Thursday were the best ever (at least in terms of sales - $80k in 10 minutes). So QVC is putting me on again this coming Sa

The Voice of Wyobraska
2008-08-01 08:17:00
I shouldn't have joked about this corner of the country (where Wyoming meets Nebraska). That car dealer in Scotts Bluff has hired me for another TV spot voiceover. I love doing these because he wants the delivery to be "over-the-top-energetic." Brings back memories of those dragway radio spots from the '60s. I put the finishing touches on the audio book project for the Consumer Publishing Group

Criminal Justice Files
2008-07-26 14:46:00
The first two episodes of the Criminal Justice Files are now available online. Matt McClain and his crew did a super job on them - the video production values on them are network-level (my narration, not so much. The shows are a take-off on all the cops shows (with an underlying educational value). Check 'em out!).

E-mail Overload
2008-07-17 07:37:00
This has been an active month for audio books. I just finished editing a 3-CD audio program for Stever Robbins on how to tame your email inbox. Stever, the executive coach and Get-It-Done Guy podcaster, provides some clever tips (and some devious methods) for taking control of your email. If you want to know how to declare "email bankruptcy," get a copy of the program. It's now available here.

QVC Overload
2008-07-15 12:32:00
I may be a victim of over-exposure on the QVC shopping network. I made my 9th appearance there tonight, and the sales of the product I represent were less than stellar (ok - sales sucked). Could it be that everyone who needs a product to transfer VHS tapes to DVD has one now? We have sold about $350,000 of this $60 product in the last couple months, but, come on, it's a big country! Speaking o

The Secret Banker
2008-07-03 09:07:00
I've been working on an audio book for Jay and Brian at Consumer Publishing Group for the past month or two. The topic of the CDs is how to reduce your personal debt (certainly a timely subject). Yesterday, I had the opportunity to record an interview with a bank loan officer. He spilled the beans on many of the tactics banks employ to increase their profits (while increasing your level of debt

First Camtasia Project
2008-07-01 16:47:00
One of my long-term clients, Manny at Wealthpire, asked if I could create a tutorial for his new stock trading website. And he wanted it created using Camtasia. I had to admit that I hadn't used Camtasia before, but I'm always up for a challenge. Turns out it's very intuitive to use. In just a couple days I was able to create a half-hour web-based tutorial, plus an interactive DVD version. If

Voice of an Irish Blogger
2008-06-28 10:13:00
Well, I've been assigned my first blog to narrate by FirstBlogMedia, and I got a good one - a personal development blog, written by a 28-year-old Irish man named Gleb Reys. He lives in Dublin. I recorded the first podcast today, and the subject was procrastination. It should be posted soon to Gleb's blog. I am scheduled to create a new podcast every two weeks for Gleb.

Behind the Scenes at QVC
2008-06-21 08:24:00
Another appearance on the QVC shopping channel this weekend. The power of QVC is a little frightening. They say they are one of the largest digital TV production operations in the world. They have over 20,000 square feet of studio space in West Chester, PA. It consists of a variety of "home" sets (the living, bathroom, home office, garage, bedroom, etc.). When you are on, you face two large monit

Wyobraska?
2008-06-17 16:25:00
I’ve said it before - one of the great things about my work is learning new things. Today I learned where WyoBraska is. Wooly Bugger Productions asked me to voice a car commercial for the “largest auto dealer in WyoBraska.” (I was thinking to myself it might be the only dealer in WyoBraska, but I wisely held my tongue). Turns out that WyoBraska is the far western corner of Nebraska, where it

Stever Robbins
2008-06-09 06:36:00
Ok - that’s NOT my photo - it’s Stever Robbins , a new podcast client of mine. Stever is a Harvard MBA-type, corporate consultant, and a fountain of knowledge.I just finished editing a podcast interview he did with Bob Burg about Bob’s new book, "The Go-Giver". The interview will be available on the Business Explained podcast. Stever also hosts the Get-It-Done Guy podcast, consistently one of

FirstBlog Media
2008-06-02 10:21:00
I've joined the voiceover team at FirstBlog Media. Their business case is that corporate websites need podcasts in order to be more engaging. So they have freelancers (like me) record audio based on the site's content and turn it into podcasts. I'll be interested to see what corporation I'll be teamed with (I hope it's not a tobacco or weapons manufacturer, or some other evil-doer).You can hear a

Memorial Day Weekend
2008-05-26 08:56:00
It's Memorial Day weekend, and I've managed to sandwich some beach time around another appearance on the QVC shopping channel. We live at the Jersey shore and Sea Girt is our beach-of-choice. However, like most all beaches in the area, you need a "bathing privilege badge" in order to set foot on the sand. They say the fee pays for life guards and such, but it kind of rubs me the wrong way (and som

To Rent or Buy? That is the question...
2008-04-25 08:27:00
Last month Jay at Consumer Publishing Group gave me free rein to research, script, and produce three videos for him that focus on personal finance. The results are now available on YouTube. The information in the videos may challenge some of your pre-conceptions. The videos answer the questions: should you rent or buy a home, do you know the true cost of your daily commute, and is it better to buy

The Gift & Home Channel
2008-09-16 13:12:00
I guess I need to get out more... Until I voiced a script for the Gift & Home Channel , I wasn't even aware of the hot new product for your bathroom, called Poo-Pourri. Their slogan: "Spritz the bowl before you go, and no one else will ever know." Poo-Pourri is available in original scent, Royal Flush, and No. 2.And that was just one of the best new products lauded in the three videos now av

The Power Man's Three
2008-09-13 08:58:00
If you want to get more out of your workout, you might want to take a look at a video we just completed for HBC Nutrition. It covers the three best supplements for power men and weight lifters.John at HBC had a common problem - he wanted to take advantage of the popularity of YouTube to market his product but didn't want to spend a fortune doing it. We applied our proven approach of forgoing mo

Out With the Old - In With the New
2008-09-07 14:51:00
I've changed the products I present on the QVC shopping channel. Last weekend was the final airing for the VHS to DVD product. After more than 10 airings, the product still had "legs." We sold out the entire inventory of 1,200 units - with another 450 orders put on waitlist. Yesterday I started with a new product for Honestech, Audio Recorder 2.0. It's designed to convert your old LPs and aud

Doing My Bit for Auto Dealers
2008-09-05 13:21:00
Umm.... no, I didn't buy a new car. But I did encourage others to! It was a busy day yesterday for recording voiceovers for car commercials. Pinnacle Advertising in LA hired me for spots for Miller Infiniti in Van Nuys and Miller Toyota in Culver City. And for WoolyBugger Productions, I voiced a spot for Reganis Auto Center in Scott's Bluff, Nebraska. I feel for auto dealers and the situation

Undercover and Underwater
2008-10-05 08:30:00
We're off on another exciting adventure with Charlie Black - Undercover Agent. We're editing the audio for the third episode of this radio dramedy for New York producer, Xavier Paul Cadeau. It seems that passenger jets are crashing into ocean at an alarming rate, leaving no trace. Will Charlie Black save the world by winning a Battle at the Bottom of the Sea? Stay tuned...
