Triplet Bunnies
2007-04-02 07:20:00
Austin attends church preschool and brought home a little bunny mask from his Easter party. We couldn't pass up the chance to let each of the little ones try them on.

Easter Bunny Visit
2007-04-03 20:28:00
Looks like we had fun, huh? Not really. I thought we'd have trouble with one or two of the triplets, but not all three. This was the best photo of the bunch. Lauren almost fell off of the bench a couple of times. I kind of felt sorry for the Easter Bunny . I'm depositing some money into the therapy fund right after this post :-)

The Bunk Bed Ladder
2007-04-05 07:20:00
When we had our house built 5 years ago we never imagined 4 kids running around. The floor plan we chose was a 1.5 story on a basement. Clif's office is in the basement, master on the main, and two bedrooms with a loft upstairs. We kidded our builder that we wanted to fill up the upstairs. That we did! After it was determined that the triplets were going to be 2 boys and 1 girl to add to our little boy, we had to figure out the best way to have 4 kids inhabit 2 small bedrooms. The thought was that Austin would move to the room across from the nursery, the nursery would become the triplet nursery and eventually the two boys would move in with big brother. The best way to accomplish that future fision was bunk beds. Before bed rest I found bunk beds at the unfinished furniture store. It was a floor model and already finished. The style was a single on top/double on bottom. Perfect! If it worked, all three boys could share it some day.Fast forward to an earlier than expected delivery and A

Crabbiness is All Around Us
2007-04-06 21:34:00
Austin was at the doctor Monday and was put on antibiotics for and ear infection. Today, the triplets went for their 18 month well visit and guess what? Three for three on the ear infections. Now we have 4 kids with ear infections. I can't even remember how many ears out of the 8. I think 7, although John was so upset the doc didn't even get to look at his second ear. This is Tyler's 5th ear infection, Lauren's 4th, and John's 2nd. So it's off to the ENT for Tyler and if Lauren has another by September, she'll be next. Other than the ears, the babies triplets toddlers (I'm having troubles with what to call them these days as they aren't babies any more) are doing great. They are all making their own growth curve even though John and Lauren are below the 25th percentile on almost everything. To make the ear infection crabbiness more interesting, though, all three are working on three teeth each. .....7 infected ears and 9 incoming teeth. Yikes!**********This morning I was trying

Imagination Station
2007-04-10 05:34:00
Austin has us belly laughing with his imagination. He has started telling the most amazing stories and acts them out as he tells them. When he recites a list, he puts his finger in the palm of the other hand like he's making a big point in a speech. Everything has a gesture and ends in an exclamation point. We didn't make it to church this morning because the kids are sill on the mend from their ear infections. We spent the morning at home enjoying family time. Austin came in to the living room with a flag made of part of a plastic golf club, the tube part of a turkey baster and a piece of cloth.Austin: Look Mommy! A flag!Mommy: Wow! That's a great job Austin. Did you make that yourself?Austin: Yes Mommy! I maked-it myself! [he proceeds to march through the living room][I'm sitting at the table looking at recipes for lunch and I hear him start to recite the pledge of allegiance. I didn't even know he had any idea!]Here's what I got him to subsequently record. . .********A couple h

Enthusiastic Prayer
2007-02-09 04:33:00
Austin has been able to say his night time prayer by himself for a while, but every time we try to capture it, he either whispers, tries to roll around on the bed or gets stage fright. Lately, he's been responding to requests to talk louder on the phone or to Grammy Poe. He says, "I be youd Mommy." Tonight he decided to pray "youd". Enjoy.

Mail Time
2007-04-14 04:44:00
I don't think my Dad knows much about Blue's Clues (or the mail time segment in the show). His grandson, my Austin, was so excited when he received a package in the mail. Mail Time!!! We thought it was from Nana, but it was from Granddad.Wow! A red calculator! Of course he has no idea what to do with it, so he decided to read off numbers. He decided it would be used to "calculate" ages. He announced that the triplets are 1, he is three and Miss Carol is 8. I wasn't sure that I wanted to know, but I asked anyway...."How old is mommy?" "Nine!" Whew.

Thinking Blogger Award
2007-04-14 21:59:00
I received my first blog award last week. Jen over at Prayer Warrior says that my blog makes her think. Wow! Thank you Jen. She leaves me comments very regularly, so I know she's reading almost daily. I am very honored to be one of her 5 picks. This award is fun because you get to pass the bloggy love. It was started here. The rules go like this:If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think,Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme,Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award ' with a link to the post that you wrote (here are the two buttons: silver version or gold). There are so many great blogs to choose from. I am late getting this out because I've been doing some thinking myself! Since I'm a mom of multiples, I'm going to follow the multiples theme and award it to some multiple moms that make me think. It's not easy raising multiples.Angus and The Triplets - Starring Angus, Ruca, Nadia and Ma

Happy Birthday Grammy Poe!
2007-04-17 07:01:00
Today is my Grammy Poe's birthday. She is 85 and still going strong. Until this year, she still mowed her yard! She was here for a visit this winter and was a huge help when we were all sick. I think she might have the best immune system I've ever seen. All 6 of us were sick and she had a few sniffles. Amazing. As a mother of 2 daughters, I'm sure that she never expected to see so many babies in future generations. She has spent almost half of her life as a grandmother and now a great-grandmother to 13. Five of those great-grandkids arrived within 8 months and after my grandfather passed. She has handled being a widow with such grace and strength. I'm sure being a preacher's wife for all of those years was good training. She is so spiritually grounded, she can handle almost anything.I hope you have a wonderful day and many more birthdays to come.

The VT Shootings
2007-04-17 03:00:00
I have a close friend who is a professor at Virginia Tech. And we used to be neighbors with their football coach way back when. This story is a little more personal to me. I am so grateful that I read my friend Jen's email before I heard the news. She was thoughtful enough to send a message out to friends to let us know that she was safe at home.My day was busy and it was 2pm before I turned on the computer or any tv other than kid shows. Luckily, I saw her email before I knew the horrific details of this event. What a tragedy. All I can say is be in prayer for the families that lost loved ones and also those who have to return back to campus. She was very shaken by this whole tragedy.

Helping Heather
2007-04-17 02:37:00
Please take a couple of minutes to read about Heather . If you don't already know, she has a brain tumor and is having to go to Mayo Clinic. I don't think I've ever personally witnessed a more together person. She has already had to endure a life-threatening situation with her daughter that is on-going. It's worth your time to read about Heather and her daugher Emma. You will be touched by her strength and blessed by her spirit.BooMama is organizing a funraiser to help defray their costs. The minimum donation is only $1 and will be done through PayPal. Here's a paragraph from her BooMama's blog:So on Wednesday, April 18, we’re going to have an opportunity to love on Heather and her family. Heather and her husband Mark will be leaving April 25th for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota - the number one neurosurgery hospital in the country. I’d love for us to give Heather and Mark a love offering before they leave for Minnesota, to be able to take care of some of their finan

Photo Contest - A Special Mom Moment
2007-04-19 07:01:00
Karen at Write from Karen is hosting a Photo Contest . The theme is a Mother's Day theme - A Special Mom Moment . The voting is from 5pm Central time tomorrow (April 20) and goes until 8pm Central time on April 22. Please visit here to vote. When you have 4 children in 20 months, you are bound to have lots of special Mom moments. I imagine most of the contestants will have the mom's faces in the shots, but it just doesn't get more special than this photo. We had triplets in September '05. My daughter's placenta had been deteriorating and she wasn't getting enough cord blood to keep her growing at a healthy rate inside of me. In fact, she had stopped growing. To save her, we had to deliver all three babies. She weighed in at a not-so-hefty 1lb. 6 oz. This shot is of Lauren grabbing on to my finger from her incubator in the NICU. She was 3 days old (born at 29 weeks, 1 day). I knew at this moment that she would be just fine. She's a fighter (as you can see in my TWF video). She never

Big Bird Wears PJs?
2007-04-19 02:46:00
My sweet little Austin does something every day that needs to get on the blog. His dazed and confused Mommy (or Mom as he's calling me now) doesn't always remember the details at the end of the day. Today, his sweetness occurred at the end of the day. Hallelujah, I can remember it long enough to get it posted.I sent Clif to the grocery (Wal Mart) tonight. I usually go, but he volunteered. And if he wants to go, I say let him go! That's a chore that gets very old. While he was gone I got the kids tucked in (or so I thought). I was in the kitchen doing the after bedtime kitchen grind, when I took a wee little break to check email. We have a loft upstairs that he frequently comes out to indicate that he's not really ready to go to sleep. My back was to the stairs and I heard this soft little throat clearing. I tried to ignore it for about 30 seconds and then heard a second faint little, 'ahem'.Austin was sitting at the banister waiting for me to look up. I went to the kitchen sink a

Triplet Picnic
2007-04-21 21:39:00
Actually, it was a picnic for triplets and more! There were 2 sets of quadruplets in attendance. Wow! Multiple moms are always amazed to meet a family with one more than them.We had a great time. The weather was gorgeous. Here's a group photo courtesy of one of the other members. They estimated that more than 20 families were present. And several of those had an extra sibling besides the multiple set, so I'm guessing that there were about 30 parents (many Dads couldn't make it) and oh, 70 kids. Wowsa! It was really nice to go somewhere and not get asked "Are they triplets?" That was a nice change of pace.

Austin's Clues
2007-04-24 03:19:00
Austin is fascinated with Blues Clues. If you looked at our "on demand" download records at the cable company over the past couple of months, you'd find that about 80% of our requests are Blue's Clues episodes. He watches an episode over and over again until he memorizes it. Then he acts it out. He has a little note pad and a crayon and tries to draw clues then ends up in the recliner, his thinkin' chair.Unfortunately, he got a little over zealous with his clues and one ended up on the living room wall. His timeout didn't make much of an impression. Clue 2 ended up on the wall of one of our bathrooms. I'm really hoping he doesn't finish the episode which would mean that we'll see a third clue.

Weekend Fun
2007-04-23 05:39:00
What a great weekend! The weather was beautiful and we had two busy days outside. Saturday was the ATM picnic. We had great weather and got to spend time with other multiples families and connect faces with names. Our group is mostly email-only. There are mom's nights out, but I haven't had much time for that yet. It's a great group, but since there are no scheduled meetings or anything like that, we only have a few opportunities to get together. This was a lot of fun. After the picnic we came home, changed gears...and clothes, and drove to the airport. My friend Jen was able to get out of dodge and come for a last minute visit. Dodge for her is Blacksburg, VA. She's a professor at Virginia Tech and really needed a couple of days away to get a breather from it all. Unfortunately, every time we turned on the tv, there was some sort of mention of the tragedy, but we stayed so busy, the tv wasn't on much at all.I hope the short 36-hour visit with us re-charged her batteries. Although,

Parade Day
2007-04-29 04:09:00
Our town had a spring parade and festivities today. We took the whole crew. John got really scared after the fire truck passed and blew the horn, but he came around and ended up waving at a few float riders.Austin had a great time. All of the other little kids around us fought to get every piece of candy thrown from floats that they could. He was satisfied to sit and watch everything. He ended up with a big container of candy anyway. It was a great day!

100th Post
2007-04-26 07:01:00
100 posts in 84 days. I guess I'm keeping up with this little blog thing. I'm not going to bore you with the 100 things about me. I'm no where near that interesting. You won't find a BooMama or a BigMama or an Antique Mommy style here (I only aspire to be that witty). That kind of wit is in my head and sometimes comes out of my mouth when I tell a story, but my brain is a little too full these days to translate those thoughts into coherent written words. No, here you'll find a few semi-coherent and run-on sentences grouped together to make partial paragraphs. Sometimes the grammar will be acceptable. The pictures are fun and the kids can be entertaining.More times than not I forget some of the cutest stories. By the time I sit down to blog at night, my brain is a little mushy about all of the details. I need to start writing down notes to jog my memory. Maybe I'll call it the blog jogger or something. Never mind, that sounds too much like exercise. I digress. These few bits and byt
