born in portland, baked in tuscon…tape op 2007-06-08 14:56:23
Recording music is taken seriously at Tape Op..
So the Tape Op conference is under way and a quick run through the vendor area finds hundreds of grown men [this conf is women-light, go figure,] drooling over racks of compressors, mixers, mics, speakers and amps. All I can think is that using these components these days makes for a very expensive way to record music that will be instantly turned into a 128kb MP3 file&hellip

M Ward June 30th 2007-06-08 13:22:12
While M Ward is one of the few big names in music to move away from Portland we Oregonians still call him one of our own. Besides he hasn’t had much time to hang out in his new home state (New Hampshire) since landing the opening spot on the Norah Jones world tour. Matt, as we like to call him here in P-town, will be appearing with Norah at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on June 30th. For tickets and additional info click here.

Pickathon indie-roots fest Aug 3-5 2007-07-03 16:13:03
The Avett Brothers/ Photo credit Tim LaBarge
The folks over at the Pickathon festival have come up with their own genre called “Indie-Roots” to describe the type of music featured at this year’s event. They define Indie-Roots as “the subjective and diverse intersections of Indie, Rock, Singer Songwriter, and a variety of traditional music styles (i.e. Bluegrass, Blues, Folk, Country, Swing, etc.)” However you describe it the lineup is is truly impressive with artists such as The Avett Brothers, Erin McKeown, The Gourds and Alela Diane. The festival also has an impressive web site with loads of festival information, video and music.

portland’s 94.7 fm launches local music hd radio channel 2007-07-19 11:11:21
Portland’s 94.7 FM is probably the best station in town if you measure radio stations by how much they support local music and local artists. They’ve now launched their new-fangled HD radio channels, and no, that HD does not stand for Hi Def like your TV - confused? Go to their site and check out what HD is all about. Here’s the 94.7 blurb “You told us MORE LOCAL MUSIC and we have responded! In fact we have created a whole new Radio Station that only plays Northwest Bands! Please Welcome ‘94/7 too - Independent Radio’ our first HD channel. Yes, you will need an HD Radio to listen on a regular basis, but for now, you can stream 94/7 too by clicking on the Listen Live button in the middle of the homepage at 947.fm”
