AT&T gets exclusive U.S. distribution rights for iPhone
2007-05-27 13:19:00
Apple’s iPhone is arguably this year’s most hotly anticipated consumer device. AT&T already accelerated its plans to rebrand the Cingular properties in preparation of the iPhone’s arrival and apparently, its efforts may be well placed as the iPhone could be an AT&T-exclusive for five years, according to a USA Today story.Currently AT&T is one of only two providers in the US that uses GSM technology. Both other service providers Verizon and Sprint use the older CDMA, which does not have the same capabilities as GSM. Most of the rest of the world, including the EU, uses GSM.And Apple is barred for that time from developing a version of the iPhone for CDMA wireless networks. So if you want an iPhone anytime soon, you'll have to take your business to AT&T.

Few simple methods to Fix a Scratched CD
2007-05-30 11:29:00
While compact discs (CDs) are remarkably durable, it’s nearly impossible to prevent scratches and scuffs from occurring from time to time. The resulting damage can be either a skip in your favorite track.Steps to follow :1. Clean the disc. Even if a CD isn’t actually scratched or scuffed, dust, oil, and other surface contaminants can prevent it from playing properly. Thus cleaning the disc should always be your first move. Run warm water over the damaged disc to remove dust. If there is stubborn dirt or grease on the disc, gently rub it with your finger while you are washing it, and use a gentle detergent or liquid soap (with the water) or rubbing alcohol (in place of water).Anytime you rub or wipe a CD, you should do so by starting at or near the center of the disc and rubbing straight outward toward the edge to prevent further scratching. Shake the water off and let the disc air-dry (do not dry it with a towel or cloth, and don't sun-dry it either).2. Apply a very thin coat of V

The basics of Wi-Fi and WiMAX technology
2007-06-04 11:50:00
Wireless Internet access is growing at a furious pace in developing economies like India and China, South America and many other places in rest of the world. The basic standard for this wireless technology is WiFi. WiFi is primarily used to create a Local Area Network (LAN), which allows users within the network to connect wirelessly. The commonest use is primarily in Internet connectivity, but WiFi is also used for closed-circuit business networking and for connecting consumer electronics, such as TVs and DVD players.WiFi makes connecting to the Internet within a home or business cheap and easy. While WiFi technology has proved largely successful in providing cheap wireless Internet service within close proximity to the WiFi access point, a new technology, WiMax, could expand the potential of wireless penetration and connection quality. WiMax does provide wireless reception over significantly greater distances, and at higher broadband levels. But the technology behind WiMax is signifi

Google Gears challenges Microsoft's domination over office
2007-06-01 23:28:00
Google Gears is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run offline. Gears provides three key features: * A local server, to cache and serve application resources (HTML, JavaScript, images, etc.) without needing to contact a server * A database, to store and access data from within the browser * A worker thread pool, to make web applications more responsive by performing expensive operations in the backgroundGoogle Gears is currently an early-access developers' release. It is not yet intended for use by real users in production applications at this time. The plugin is a 700K download for Firefox 1.5+ and Internet Explorer 6.0+ that installs three developer APIs. One API will handle the creation of data objects to store application information locally, another will be a SQLite relational database for searching the data, and the final part will enable asynchronous JavaScript so applications can sync data in the background without ov

Working at Google is next to not working at all
2007-06-06 00:36:00
Every month, aspiring workers deluge the popular Google office at Mountain View, Califonia. The company receives up to 11,000 to 15,000 resumes weekly -- equivalent to a stack of paper at least 20 feet high. And the company claims to read each and every one. As one of Silicon Valley's hottest companies, Google has become a beacon for job seekers. In just a few short years, the interest has helped the company amass an arsenal of what is arguably among the world's top technology minds. To lure workers, Google offers perks, including free cafeteria meals, free use of laundry machines, a child-care center, a free annual one-night ski trip (resort destinations vary depending on office location), dog-friendly offices and an on-site doctor. Engineers can devote 20 percent of their time to projects of their choice. What's not mentioned is that much of the largesse is designed to keep workers at their desks longer. Here is an insight on the google work culture, and a tour of the office head qu

No more business travels for conferences, Microsoft's Roundtable is the alternative
2007-06-09 22:56:00
Microsoft eyes future of teleconferencing with RoundTable, a product that is scheduled to debut by mid-2007. RoundTable is a table-top device, not much bigger than a traditional speaker phone at the base. It can be connected to a standard PC to offer synchronized voice and video conferencing. The device creates a 360-degree, panoramic video of side-by-side images of everyone who is taking part in the conference. It tracks the flow of the conversation, so the image and voice of the person who is speaking are spotlighted. People across many locations can attend meetings together virtually. The product which was termed as RingCam would be in market for around $3000The product is ideal for the two types of conferenced business meetings. First, there’s the meeting with two groups of people in two different conference rooms in different locations. If there’s a RoundTable in each room, the devices will capture a 360-degree view of each, and meld together images of each person on the monit

Why Investing in India is very rewarding
2007-07-02 13:19:00
Indian economy is growing really fast... It's the second fastest growing economy on the planet, and it’s not surprise that India is brimming with plenty of investment opportunities. Just recently, American Express predicted that India's 100,000 'dollar millionaires' will grow by 12.8% a year for the next three years. That's a whole lot of rich Indians. What's more, McKinsey Global Institute predicts that the average Indian's income will triple by 2025.The first and second-generation reforms have created a conducive environment for foreign investments in India. Market oriented policies are boosting economic activity, all round development and GDP growth rate. Government procedures are constantly being simplified and paper work minimised. As the Indian economy gears for competition in the international market, overseas investors clearly see the potential for attractive returns from investments in India, which is also evident from the many FDI success stories already achieved.Th

Getting feeds from orkut communities is easy
2007-07-08 05:26:00
Orkut as we know it, is really the coolest social networking site. It is very simple to use and is not like other feature-rich Social networking sites, this meant that even those users who were not very net savvy were able to learn it easily. Its not surprising that Orkut is the second most visited site in India (as per Alexa). Orkut also allows its users to create (easy-to-setup) forums (called "communities"). This being of AskWiki's. However the only thing i felt missing was... Orkut does not allow users to generate RSS feeds of Orkut communities. Although other active orkut users have been requesting orkut to have this functionality added to orkut. I happen to come accross a trick that could enable people to have feeds from any of the orkut community. Two simple steps to be followed to get the source code of the orkut community feed1. Go to the orkut community and copy the URL (eg. .. this being of AskWiki)2. Got OrkutFeed and paste the URL and hit 'OK'. Thats it.. a new page ap

Solving Rubik's Cube now automated
2007-07-06 23:09:00
Rubik's Cube (a mechanical puzzle aslo called the "Magic Cube") has always been a favourite for puzzle solvers, infact around the world many speedcubing competitions have been held to determine who can solve the Rubik's Cube in the shortest time. To solve a Rubik's Cube puzzle many sequences of moves are written and shared, its called the 'algorithm'. It is a very efficient layer-by-layer method that requires a large number of algorithms, especially for orienting and permuting the layers of the cube. The algorithm database on alglist.ning.com is an extensive directory of moves, that can help you in learning, practicing and inventing new algorithms. Using the " F2U'R'LF2RL'U'F2 " sequence of move is the very common one.. Check out the animated version of this sequence. Going a step further in solving the Rubik's puzzle Daniele Benedettelli has made a LEGO robot that can solve the Rubik’s Cube automatically. A motor actuates a prismatic joint that pushes the side of the cube

But the real attraction for foreign investors is potential investment returns of 25 per cent and more in Indian projects that might be hard to come by in the US and in Western Europe today. The positive outlook of Indian government is the key factor behind the sudden rise of the Indian Real Estate sector - the second largest employer after agriculture in India.
