In My Marriage
2008-08-20 10:21:00
Sometimes...like when I try to land the sailboat at the dock at Shawnee Mission lake turning into the wind only a foot away miles away unable to throw a line;around I must go again. Practicing unwanted sailing but getting better Until; Midst trying, tears and accident I land; You waiting. Your own person. Your own feelings. Turning the dark road light. One small bit of magic that you ca

The Change

You said the words long before it happened;after a bout with the punch bowl, that stuff about not really becoming a manuntil your father died.I couldn't buy such hard words, the price of manhood too high. But after arriving home (after lunch with my two year old son)to a phone call that said my father was dead 2000 miles away, I knew that you were right.I had become a manwith no one to run toin the n

We Passed into the Storm
2008-08-16 11:51:00
The wall cloud hung lowAs we moved down the dry two lane highwayKnowing we'd hit the storm, first in minutes then in seconds. It hung so low that piecesKissed the earth with gentleness. The kind of cloud that breeds tornados, hail and other nice thingsThat love to make us feel out of control.Pushing down black bubbles the size of a small farm.PulsingSo slowA thing born of windsAlive only to unleash

Remembering the Summer of '69, Before Our Parting
2008-08-15 08:52:00
We fall into bed,Your body giving warmth to mine. The smell of your hair reminds me of aLittle black boxThat holds, gently wrapped in tissue,A piece of bright yellow hair. When you fell asleep, I got out the box,It fit in my hand.A small black rectangle of plastic.Opening it, carefully, I studyThe fine gold fibers You gave meSixteen years ago.5/20/85School has started! The House Lies Sleeping
2008-08-12 12:00:00
Quiet time. The house sleepsIn mid afternoon sunWhile soft winds drift` throughThe open windowsAided by the attic fan we installed a year ago.Slowly it wakes. With the sound of frantic baby cries from the cradle,Hungry.Stiring the eighteen month old maniac in the next room,Diaper off.Bringing rumbles from upstairs. The four year old with an exploded room.Life returns, the quiet replacedBy the musi

A Monday before school starts
2008-08-11 10:05:00
I think I will add some writing today. I have published several poems over the years. Like photography it is art and doesn't pay much but carries a lot of satisfaction. I'm currently working on a small book of my poems and a few photos just to help collect the stuff in one place if nothing more. The photo today is one I took at Cape Cod this summer at the National Sea Shore. The Lion's Suit Standin

Boulder Beach

Here is a photo taken in Ireland at Boulder Beach that is part of the Ring of Kerry. It was a rainy day but you get a lot of that in Ireland.

Joyce's Country
2008-08-09 12:10:00
Today I want to return to the Ireland photos taken the summer of 2007. This is a shot of a farm in the morning while on a car ride in an area known as Joyce 's Country . This photo was taken with a Nikon D2x using RAW mode.

Tracks
2008-08-08 09:40:00
Today I have chosen a very early photo I took while in college. It was taken out in the country in Texas on a very hot day. Originally I printed the picture on Kodalith sheet film and mounted it against a white board to gain the effect but today that isn't necessary. I have always liked the vanishing point and that was the reason for this image.

Ireland
2008-08-07 11:33:00
While in Ireland last summer we experienced a lot of rain. Ireland has a wonderful mystery about it regardless the weather. This photo was taken from a moving car which diminishes the image quality but when you are traveling with a group of people you just can't ask them to stop at every photo op. It would be wonderful to just walk for miles around Ireland.

In the Park
2008-08-06 10:33:00
This was taken in at a small park near Soho in New York City. It was shot with a Leica M8 in the RAW mode. The original image was in color but I felt the B&W look really brought these two people to life. It was a very hot summer day when I took this photo.

Below is a photograph taken the summer of 2007 outside Cork City, Ireland. It was taken with a Leica M8 in the RAW mode. It was taken from a moving Jaunty Car in the rain. The hope is the photo captures a bit of the mystery and wonder found in Ireland.

Heaven House

Home alone with all three children:As tiny Claire crawls to her toys, working jaws of seven months,I play piano with Elizabetha whirling wind of only two who loves to dance and sing and scream, her crazy arms swoop up and downshe pounds a fractured melody, when Matthew breaks from building blocks, tugs my sleeveand says to me, like I should know, "Adopted kids live in Heaven two times; once before we

Abandoned Door
2008-09-05 07:15:00
Todays photograph is of an abandoned entrance to a building in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I tried to imitate a process I use to use years ago where I shot slide film then developed it as a negative. It was an unpredictable process. Today with Photoshop and Lightroom the same process can be imitated with complete control but still with enough of the serendipitous to keep it fun.LINK

Choice
2008-09-04 09:44:00
One of the biggest problems today is deciding what "look" you want for a finished photo. With endless options getting to a final vision is harder or I should say, more challenging. I have put two takes on a photo I'm working on and would love some feedback as to cut 1 or cut 2 and why.1 - LINK 2 - LINK
