Autumn delights
2006-10-06 01:59:10
Autumn delights The leaves are changing colors. Our girls are enjoying it. Our Emily likes to call out the colors as we drive some where, and Amanda likes to kick up the leaves as we take a walk around the block. At the moms club Fall Festival they got to decorate some small pumpkins and take them home. They seem to love pumpkins. Perhaps it's their shape or their color. We are thinking of buying one and carving it this year. That should be great fun.I came across some nice pumpkin story books.I added them to my "Kids corner" page."Five Little Pumpkins"--great for babies and toddlers"My Jack O'Lantern"--I like how this story teaches about pumpkins and patience"Too Many Pumpkins" --This story is amusing and fun.Check them out at: My Kid's Corner Horse storyby Shannan HearneI grew up riding. When we moved to SC and I was turning 9, my parents bought me a pony, Joker. September Mornings
2006-09-02 01:23:13
Cool, crisp September mornings--a new season Cool, crisp September mornings are a sign of a new season approaching. The heat of the summer will lessen and breezes will blow in a bit cooler. With the changes in season also come changes in routines. My Emily is going into her second year in preschool. So our morning routine won't be so slow and easy anymore. Time to get ready and go.This is a time that businesses also get back into a busy routine. With the holidays coming, many plans must be implemented.Sign-up for my newsletter and receive coupons to my store. Feature Art/Product"Great Blue Heron" Pen and InkI enjoy bird watching and would frequently go to the reservoir near my parent's home, which attracted many birds. One of my favorites to watch was the Great Blue Heron. I love its elegant yet prehistoric look. It would search the shallow water for its next meal, and freeze when it saw something move. The way it spread its wings and glided just a foot over the water to another area

Summer sunshine
2006-08-02 19:46:21
Summer sunshine Summer is a time to get outdoors and enjoy nature. It's a time to explore. My oldest daughter has taken an interest in flowers, so I'm tending to a flower garden in it's beginnings. It's great to see her so excited about it.Being outdoors now I notice more how they've grown. Emily has made progress in getting used to being in water and enjoys splashing in the pool. Amanda has enjoyed the water from the start, but now is able to splash and enjoy it even more now that she's truly mobile.Being able to get outside has been good for me too. A change of scenery is great for inspiration. With a clear mind I can accomplish my goals.Enjoy these days of summer. Horse memories

Happy 4th of July, AmericaThis past week we celebrated the 4th of July. The founding fathers of this country had an image in their minds of the possibilities for freedom. From their efforts, our country was born.On a similar tone, we should take the time to create our own possibilities and see what our efforts could accomplish. Many businesses, big and small, have come from such efforts. It's up to us to explore the possibilities.Feature Art/Products"Young Rider"Pastel portrait"Young Rider" was a commissioned portrait of the Beland family's granddaughter on their ole' pony "Oliver". In 1997, I had started setting up my craft table at the dressage shows the farm hosted. I would often see their granddaughter who insisted on having a pony ride whenever she was there at the farm. They would brush up "Oliver" and bring him down to the field where she would get on for a ride. Sometimes she would get hot and would want to get down. Yet a few minutes later she'd want "Up" again. Father's Day, and summer days ahead
2006-06-03 17:05:39
Father's Day is celebrated this month. My dad used to like to take us places. When my sisters and I were very young, My Dad and Mom would take us into Boston to the Public Gardens. We would feed the ducks and pigeons and go for a ride on the swan boats. I always enjoyed going there. When we got older my Dad decided to take us on family vacations. He wanted us to see other places. Our first vacation was to Washington D.C. I remember enjoying seeing the monuments and going on the White House tour. My Dad wanted us to be open to new things and learning. I always enjoyed our vacations where ever they were.Though My parents don't travel as much any more, my sisters got the travel "bug" and have done a bit of traveling. Unlike them I haven't travel as much, but did go back to one vacation spot we went to, Niagara Falls. My Husband and I went to Niagara Falls in August 2005. We enjoyed it a lot. During that time I suspected I may be pregnant, and when we got home it was confirmed. It ju

Celebrating Moms
2006-05-03 02:03:39
Celebrating My MomOne of the things that stands out about my mom is the way she always encouraged me to be "Myself".I was a shy child. I was quiet and sometimes got tease by the other children. My mom always tired to explain perhaps why they did and pressed me to just be myself. When I decided to follow my talents and become an artist and go to art school, she was right there behind me.When I got nervous about mid-terms or finals she always had some no nonsense words of encouragement. And she was proud when I started my art biz part-time.I started with cards and postcards and attended craft fairs. A few years later I met my hubby and married. I added t-shirts to my inventory and got some businesses to buy them. I continue on with my small business today. In 2002, I became a "Mom". I have two beautiful girls.I plan to pass on what she has taught me about being "Who I Am" to them."Cheers" MomParting is such sweet sorrowMy husband's step-Mom passed away recently. Her memori

A New Year has arrived.Making resolutions isn't just about making plans. It's also about reflecting on the past year, the good and the bad. It's time now to make a plan for this year, with the experiences and knowledge obtain from last year or years.Make a New start. a New Year 2005
2006-04-18 01:15:14
Well the New Year has come. My family and I seemed to start on a down note. Our two girls, and then both of us got conjunctivis. All on eye meds for 7 days,... but stuff happens. I can remember getting ear infections on holidays and weekends as a kid, though my ears turned out fine. When we felt better we did eventually go out for an asian meal. The girls enjoyed themselves. I spend some time updating my website. I added a "customers comments" page, and a link to my Cafepress store. I just joined Cafepress.com. I uploaded a few images and created a few new products. I'm excited about having a variety of items. I have also added a FAQ page through Bravenet.com. Customers can search for info or send me a question. I'm hoping this year will be better. This past year my business has needed a boost. Perservere, Persevere.Take care

Happy Holidays
2006-04-18 01:11:56
As I do every year, I created a holiday card. Using MSPublisher I layout and print the card. Print labels and then mail the cards out to family and friends. People I know I'll be seeing, I put the card in with their gift. This year's card features my older daughter,Emily. Holiday card2004She's 2 1/2 now. (time flies...sniff) I remember when she was so small. She's now a toddler running around and such. She's also a big sister. Her younger sister,Amanda is 8 mos. and has inherited dad's bright red hair. I'm sure to make a portrait of her at some point. Perhaps even both of them together. They get along ok, and get silly sometimes. The busy holiday season is in full swing. Our family has a mix of jewish and christian relatives. So it means we celebrate two holidays close together. This year we're trying to watch what we spend on gifts. We decided on a rough amount to spend on each. Sometimes I think Thanksgiving is so easy, just cooking up a bunch of great dishes. One

Blessings and prayers

It is a hard week for many hundreds, thousands of people. The devastation of Katrina is mammoth. I find myself sad, and praying for those who are in so much Need. I've never been to New Orleans, but have seen photos and heard about it's many cultures, andhow beautiful a city. A place of romantic corners: Jazz bands, Beautiful french quarters, martigar. So colorful, and rich. ...and now it's torn apart by water and wind. So fleeting are our moments, thoughts, and memories. But we must have the faith and strength to over come and Rebuilt. We, Humans, have that special something to continue on. I admire nature for both the beauty(at it's best) and the Fury(the worst). We have a part in Natureand that is to Continue On. We can't control everything that comes are way, but we can do our bestand move Forward and rebuild anew.As a member of MOMs club of Lincoln, RI ( a chapter of MOMS club International),We're in the works to raise funds for this effort. my intro
2006-04-17 20:47:10
Hi,I'm Lisa Wald Guarino. I'm new here. I found out about blogging from wahm newsletter and thought I'd check it out. I'm an artist and horselover. I created a business using my talent: Lisa's ART & Horses. Presently I run my biz part time. Most of my time is taken up with my two little girls. Emily, 2, and Amanda 4 mos. They keep me quite busy. I remember when Emily was born how new to parenthood my hubby and I felt. But in time there developed a rhythm and knowledge. Then things changed again, as they do, when I became pregnant again. Though it was planned and we'd been on a long rode to making a family, I found having a second child felt like a whole new ball game. Talking with other moms of two, the same resounds from them. But I wouldn't change it for the world.

Dog Days soon to end, School to begin
2005-08-03 19:56:48
Well it's August and we're nearing the end of summer. School will be opening before you know it and my oldest will be getting on the bus to go to preschool, her first full year at pre-school. How exciting. I must say some hot "dog days of summer" can cause some lack of inspiration. Yet I must learn to be excited like the first days of school, open to the possibilties. I do get ideas and moments of inspiration but I'm not always in a position to grab it. So I make a note. It also helps to swap ideas and do group projects. Wetcanvas is an art community that is enriching for artists. One section is a "Project section". You can post images "in Progress", then the Final image when your done and get feedback. It's interesting how one reference photo can turn out so different by each artist. We all have our methods and favorite mediums. Midnight Race LithographMidnight RaceThis image was inspired from the beauty, speed and stamina of the Thoroughbred horses.Watching this past weekend's race at The Preakness, second leg of the Triple Crown, it's hard not to admire the true heart and stamina of the horse. In a moment after the turn to the stretch the lead horse, Scappy T veered right and clipped heels with Afleet Alex. There in that moment the thought of disaster was, but then miraculously "Alex" regained his footing. Not only did he save himself and his jockey from a terrible fall, but ran ahead and won the race. May we all continue to admire their beauty and strength that they so exhibit.

Spring time poem
2005-04-23 15:18:21
HelloHere is a Spring poem. Stepping out, There comes a sweet smell on the air. The warmth on my face tells me it's almost here. Look down and there to see are small purple petals The first sign of springThe first day of spring was March 21. As typical northern weather would have it there was still some snow around. Those hardy corcuses bloomed as usual despite the snow. I just love the site of them, green and purple peeking through the snow. A true sign that spring is "just around the corner". After a record snow fall winter, I'm geared up for Spring season. Let this season of growth be an inspiration to accomplish goals and dreams.

"Slow and Steady...." I move ahead and persevere with my business. I've added a few pages of horse resources and art resources to my website with the help I've hired. I also decided to add a kid's corner too. So my site is growing. Today I started to print out my Spring/Summer catalog. Little by little my mailing list is growing. I also have "tax stuff" to put together too. Yes, It's that time of year again. lolSo much to do, so little time. I still have a bunch of pictures of the kids and family that I wanted to post on the family pages, but I haven't gotten to it yet, though I plan. Some day I want to put together all those photos in albums. It so nice to look through pictures. My mom put together a few albums of our family, and it's fun to leaf through them. I'd like my girls to have that too.The week ahead is a very busy so I'd best get some things done. ....Later.

weather report: snow......again
2005-01-22 19:08:12
The weather report is snow...again. It's the weekend and we have to make due inside. Good thing I bought more paints yesterday. My daughter Emily seems to enjoy the paint. I went over colors with her, and we did some finger painting. So nice to share the creativity with others. It's been some time since I've done any artwork. Finding a balance is challenging. Though I was thinking, as I gaze out the window, that I should come up with a holiday theme for next years holiday card. Never to early to plan. I also realize that despite going to see my mom (bubbie)recently, we again forgot to get the sleds out of the basement for our kids. Maybe next time. lol I decided to get my site tweeked a bit and hope to enjoy more traffic to it. I've been adding stuff to my site but I've come to the conclusion I could use someone with internet marketing experience. My mind was getting a "full box" feeling trying to sort out the do's and how to's to improve my site. When you need help,

Remember to use your imagination
2004-12-08 01:50:08
Hello, This week I started feeling blue about my business. This year has been a tough one. I decided at the beginning of the year, one of my To Do things would be to "up" my advertising. I placed my ad in a national magazine and on their website. My feedback has been lacking, and I have found myself trying to analyze what to do, what I need to do and where to go from here. In the midst of these thoughts, I took my two girls to a storytime at Barnes and Noble Thursday. As I walked into the store I saw a sign about a special storytime guest, Jane Bregoli, "The Goat Lady", and one of the goat lady paintings. I immediately recognized the painting. I used to live in the Boston area, and attended the Cohassett Art Festival. I remember hearing about the goat lady and the paintings and remember seeing the paintings there. Looking at the painting one almost felt an emotional wave between the lady and goat. That there was an interaction there, perhaps unspoken. A year or so lat

Give Thanks

Give Thanks This month is a time to reflect on the people, places and things that have enriched our lives.I give thanks to family, friends and those I've just met that have been inspiring.I started my art business back in 1990 with just a few cards and postcards. With the encouragement from family I made those first few steps toward entrepreneurship. In 1996, I married. My husband has been positive and supportive to me and my business. That fall after we bought our first computer I ventured into having t-shirts added to my business. He was so proud when I got my first orders. I'm so glad to have him by my side at every turn. Our friends have been great too. With some of their help and advice I got my business up on the web and we slowly discovered this "net thing".Since being on the Net, I've met a number of people that I've found I can connect to. It's wonderful to find and meet others and share information. So Give thanks to those around you. Feature Art/ProductThoroughbred "javamon

Happy New Year"Wonderous New Year" A year is filled with many things, challenges as well as gifts. This past Fall Our oldest daughter entered Kindergarten while her younger sister entered preschool. They both are enjoying school and learning. For them it's been an adventure in learning new things and meeting other children. In the same token, I've learned some new things and have met other people too. In my business, I've learned to network online and offline. I recently joined a local networking group and have enjoyed meeting new contacts. I've also attended online events and presented my business at a couple of them.
