Giving Thanks
2007-11-01 09:14:58
Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks for all we have and those who came before us. Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving as a national holiday in 1863. In the following article. Take in his profound words on this holiday. 'Tis the Season for Giving - A Brief History of Why We Give Thanks By Elizabeth SmithThanksgiving is on its way to a dinner table near you. But have you ever truly understood why we “give thanks” on this food-filled Thursday? Most people know that Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family, friends, and a bountiful feast to celebrate and give thanks to God for an abundance of food from the autumn harvest. But do many people know the roots of this North American tradition? Here is a brief summary of what Thanksgiving is all about and how it came to be what it

Happy Halloween
2007-10-10 16:34:56
Happy Halloween Halloween has always been a fun holiday for us. Our first Halloween as a family was in Oct. 2002. We dressed Emily up in a pumpkin outfit and went around to saying "Hi" to the neighbors. We took pictures of her in her costume. In 2003, we were "cats" and met with the local moms group for a Halloween party. Amanda was born in 2004, and of course we saved the costumes from previous years. She was a pumpkin for her first Halloween too.The following years, our girls have been princesses and "Dora".It's so much fun to see them in their costumes and playing with the idea of characters. It's a way we can all play in different roles. This year it's probably going to be "Dora" and maybe a pirate or spiderman. We'll see. Of course we'll have the camera to take pictures. Enjoy t

Connecting with Others
2007-09-11 18:36:52
Connecting with Others In this time of fast paced lives, It’s important to make time to connect with others. I can remember years ago before computers became household items, I enjoyed writing to some members of our family and a few pen pals. It was great to read about what they were doing and exchanging ideas. Once computers and the internet became common place there were even more ways to connect to others. When I took my business online, I slowly gained knowledge about other ways to connect to people. Having an at-home business can seem lonely. So I joined a few networks where I’ve met some great people. I needed some face to face contact, so I joined a couple of local groups. I collected their info and emailed them to get to know them and exchange ideas with them.Connecting with

Nature’s PaintbrushSummertime’s long days give us many wonderful opportunities. Usually when we go visit family we head for home and it’s already night time It’s dark and sometimes only a moon is out and shining on our way home. Well last Saturday when we left for home it was still light out. As we drove down the highway in the distance the sky was lit by the sun’s last rays. It was a beautiful yellow and orange sunset with a few scattered purple clouds. Our daughter Emily exclaimed “a rainbow”. She’s never really noticed a sunset before, until that day. So we gently corrected her and said , “it’s a Sunset”. It was very colorful. Our girls enjoyed watching the sunset as we drove south down the highway. It was a few miles down the rode when my husband and I not

Paint Horses As a Part of American History

Paint Horses As A Part Of American History By Riley HendersenWhen it comes to American history, no other animal is more closely associated with the story of this country than the horse. Inseparable from the Wild West, and indistinguishable from the image of the American cowboy, horses will be forever identified with the picture of early Americana. But no breed of horse is more interconnected with this cherished history than Paint horses. But as closely associated with American history as they are, ironically, Paint horses had their start in America via Spain. When Spanish explorers came to the New World in 1519, they brought with them an enormous amount of supplies and a number of horses. These Paint horses eventually dotted the landscape in wild herds, and by the 1800s tribes of American In

The Black Stallion and my memories
2007-06-01 14:06:13
The Black Stallion and my memories I’m told that little girls love horses. Then when they get older other things, perhaps boys (LOL) take their place.Well not for some girls and woman. I’m one of them.I’ve loved horses from the first time I was near them. The first time I was near them was when my parents would take us to a local farm for pony rides. I was probably one of the few children that didn’t cry when put on their back. I instead loved it. I’ve always been petite and thought it was great to see the world from their back. It was a perfect perch for a little girl. I also thought they were gentle and beautiful.I learn to ride horses when I was able to talk my parents into sending me to a local camp where I could learn to ride them.In my senior year in High school, I would spe

Thoughts on Motherhood Just over 5 years ago, I gave birth to my oldest daughter Emily. In the moment my first daughter was born, I became a mother. I remember the first time I saw that little face of hers. It was the most beautiful face. It was then that I felt like a “MOM”. Before that I only had an inkling of what was too come. Many days have passed since. We’ve had a second daughter, Amanda. It’s been wonderful watching them grow and learn each day. Here’s a quotes for Mothers Day A mother laughs our laughter,Sheds our tears,Returns our love,Fears our fears. She lives our joys,Cares our cares,And all our hopes and dreams she shares.- Julia Summers Blessing to Our Mothers. Utah Woman Auctions off Great Salt Lake for a Piece of the Big Apple In a caper of what some might consider unconventional and others downright bizarre Utah author, Kim Mutch Emerson took a drive to the Great Salt Lake, gathered 2 cc’s of briny water and posted it on eBay for an auction. She believes it’s her ticket to New York City. When asked why she is auctioning off this minuscule amount of salt water Emerson stated, “I’ve been invited to New York for a writing seminar held by Mark Victor Hansen. The moment I received the invitation I knew I would be at that seminar. But there was a list of things that had to happen first. I needed to trademark my teaching system before presenting it in manuscript form in New York as well as other details. Then I had this crazy idea. If Kyl

April Showers : Lessons from Nature dip dop,dip dop, dip dopdopOutside it's cloudy and the rain has begun. My thoughts linger at the sound. We step outside to do an errand and in the hurry to get into the car and keep from getting too wet, my daughter points out the flowers nearby.I 'm reminded to stop and to find joy in nature. Here's an article I found that I enjoyed reading about Lessons from Nature.Lessons From Nature - April Showers By John GilmoreIt has been said that April showers bring May flowers. When it is May and I look out the window I can see that the statement is true. Most of us can. May days are often beautiful. The skies are blue, the clouds billowy and crisp and the winds subtle and cool. On days like those I often stop, take a breath, look around, and perceive the beauty of

March: Celebrate Women's History Month
2007-03-02 15:02:52
March: Celebrate Women 's History In 1978, "Women's History Week" was formed by a group of women in California to generate public consciousness of all women in history. As word spread rapidly across the nation, state departments of education encouraged celebrations of National Women's History Week as an effective means to achieving equity goals within classrooms. In 1987, the National Women's History Project petitioned Congress to expand the national celebration to the entire month of March.Since then, the National Women's History Month Resolution has been approved with bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. Each year, programs and activities in schools, workplaces, and communities have become more extensive as information and program ideas have been developed and shared. Love is in the air
2007-02-01 20:27:55
Love is in the air Febuary is a month to celebrate Love.I've recently taken interest in learning about "The Law of Attraction". That our "thoughts become things". We attract situations and things thru the energy of our thoughts and feelings .We can change who we are, what we're doing, and whom we want to be with by changing our thoughts. Positive thoughts and actions can lead to wonderful changes in our life.Love has powerful energy. We first need to find the love within ourselves. Then other loves can enter our lives. Whether it's finding a passion to turn into "our"work, or finding someone to be with and create a life together.I found this article of interest on this subject. Read thru it and perhaps try the exercise.Love is all around us.Love is All There Is-The Rest We Make UpBy Dr. Ir

A New Year 2007

WelcomeHappy New Year A New Year A new year has arrived. We have many thoughts and ideas that we would like this new year to be filled with. Making resolutions/ goals that are attainable is the key. Here's a great article for creating a plan for your goals.Setting Goals For The New Year That Last Beyond January 31stBy Beth SilverFor many of us, New Year's goals are easily set and more easily sacrificed for those matters we deem more pressing. Whether it's reconnecting with old contacts, improving your financial situation or improving sales in your firm, New Year's goals can be very difficult to keep. By working on the goals you set now, future goals will be easier to attain. Besides, learning new things or the possibility of new revenues, reaching goals often leads to improved self-esteem an

Lights of the Season
2006-12-05 21:36:45
Lights of the Season I think one of my favorite things of this "Season" is the lights.I love lighting the Hanukah candles. I buy the small candles in many colors. I love placing a rainbow of different colored candles in the Memorah. Then carefully lighting each one as we say the prayer. The site of them lit always makes me feel warm inside.I also love driving around to see the many Christmas lights. Our Emily has grown excited at seeing the lights at nights now.Seeing sparkling lights here and there as we drive thru the cold night warms the heart. So with warm hearts, Celebrate this Season Feature Horse storyby Pamela BeersWriting And Riding: A Spiritual ConnectionBy Pamela BeersSome things just go better together than others. A mixed bag of Blessings
2008-04-05 18:26:31
Happy Spring It's great to see so many signs of spring, even if here in the northeast it doesn't always feel like it. We had a few crocuses (first flowers of spring) appear early on. Then recently I've noticed many green leaves of daffodils coming forth. In February I chose some sunflower seeds and started them indoors. I chose sunflowers because my oldest daughter loves the color yellow. Our girls have been enjoying watching them grow. I had to recently move the young sprouts to a bigger pot. As soon as it warms a little more I'll try placing them outside. I'm looking forward to adding to and watching what flowers come up this spring in our flower garden. You never know what life will sprout. Here's a story of a mixed bag of blessings. "A mixed bag of Blessings " I came upon a

Inspiring horse
2008-05-08 14:25:47
Kentucky Derky Day proved to be a trying day. Tho we could cheer for Big Brown as he crossed the wire, we were dis-hearted by Belle's injury and passing. Brought to the attention of many since Barbaro's wins and injuries there has been some medical improvement for equines. It was inspiring and hopeful to receive this email and photo today. Subject: If this doesn't inspire you, check to see if you are breathing. Meet Molly. She's a gray speckled pony who was abandoned by her owners when Katrina hit southern Louisiana, USA . She spent weeks on her own before finally being rescued and taken to a farm where abandoned animals were stockpiled. While there, she was attacked by a dog, and almost died. Her gnawed right front leg became infected and her vet went to LSU for help. But

Gifts Shared

Happy Mothers Day "Gifts Shared" Mother’s Day is Sunday. I’m reminded how time passes and our roles change as our lives move.I’m not just a person, but am a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, a woman, a wife, an aunt and a Mom. The memories in time never completely fade and new experiences are always on the horizon. My art has always been a part of my “time”, my life. When I was in my teens, I took some oil painting lessons. I’ve always love creating art. I also enjoyed sharing it. One Mother’s day I presented my mom with an oil painting of daisies in a vase. She loved it. Today the daisies are still there on the wall above the desk in their bedroom. When I and my hubby were getting a little more serious in dating and our relationship, He gave me an idea for a painti

Horse stories that touch our hearts
2008-06-09 09:00:17
Horse stories that touch our hearts” There’s an incredible connection that can happen between a man/ women and a horse. The old saying “The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man” rings true. I’ve watched horse shows as well as ridden myself in shows to know the statement is true. There’s something special when we connect. As we learn to work with them we discover how
