The Natural Source - bit of a let down 2007-03-24 07:19:05 I reviewed some products from The NaturalSource
some time back on my old blog. At the time, I thought some of the products weren’t too bad. I didn’t actually buy into the “natural” hype, despite what their advertising claims, but I have to admit they did really hype it up.
Australia being a country that seems particular about the environment and natural stuff, I naturally thought that this line of products would have passed muster there. I liked the Tropical Sugar Cane Body Whip and I tested their hair products. Everything was fine and dandy initially.
But later, I found that the body whip, although it sank into my skin, didn’t leave it feeling moisturised. My dad who has cracked heels, tried this moisturiser and pronounced it a disaster, for it did nothing for his cracked heels. On the other hand, some cheap brand of body butter did the trick. That got me thinking.
The next thing was my hair. After using the shampoo and conditioner, my hair felt nice. In
Review: Makeup: Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer 2007-03-24 04:16:09 I was introduced to this brand by a friend, and am fast finding lots of great things in them. Today, I’ll review their newest concealer, Full Cover
.
This concealer is touted as an extreme camouflage concealer. What it means, I think is that its thick enough to cover even the most extreme of imperfections on the skin, and this includes tattoos! The official spiel offers this piece of wisom:-
Full Cover
Full Cover is perfect for concealing the most extreme flaws, such as scars, severe skin damage, beauty spots, depigmentation or birthmarks. It can even hide tattoos. Waterproof and long-lasting, it holds even under extreme conditions thanks to its perfectly stable formula. It evens the skin tone and camouflages imperfections for a long period of time
I’ve been using this concealer in #4 for about 10 days now. #4 is the perfect colour for me. It melts into my natural skintone, and it doesn’t even look like I’m using any concealer at all. My skintone just looks eve Read more:Makeup

Review: Makeup: L’oreal Touche Magique concealer pen 2007-03-23 07:12:13 Touche
Magique is a concealer pen by L’oreal made specially for concealing dark undereye circles. It has illuminating properties to brighten the under-eye area.
I test drove this after a night of drinks and not sleeping well. It gave me a smooth clear look, like as though I’d just woken up after 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep! Every girl should keep this gem in their makeup stash!!
There are only 2 shades available here - 03 and 04. If you are fair 03 will suit you fine. However, if you are very tanned/dark you might not be able to find a match in this line. I don’t know why but I can’t seem to find much stock at the L’oreal counters. Are they discontinuing this item? Or do they just not stock many of it?
The brush part can feel rather hard sometimes and if you aren’t careful it feels scratchy around your sensitive eye area. I usually clean the brush with some tissue paper after every use and I found that regular cleaning seems to make it feel softe Read more:Makeup
Kate by Kanebo - Dual Carat Eyeshadow 2007-03-23 05:29:15 This is not a review per se. I wrote about this new eyeshadow by Kate a while ago. I mentioned I was keen to try this from the new Kate collection (at the time)
Well, to my surprise, its here! Earlier than expected.
I saw it in Watsons yesterday retailing for RM45. Although Watsons is having 15% off on Kate cosmetics at the moment, this is not included as its a red tag item. I think its because its new. Sasa also has it at about RM42.75 or something.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to test it, and yes, I like it! Its shimmery, so those who don’t like shimmer would have to steer clear. There are 2 complementing colours, one light, one darker.
I swiped most, but only liked BR-1 (brown shades) and GD-1 (gold shades). I’m into neutrals lately so that might explain my current preferance. I did swipe the Green duo as well, as I like green eyeshadows. However, I did not like this one, as both the greens looked muddy for some reason.
Would I buy it? Yes, maybe later but not now. RM4 Read more:Carat

Bra Straps that show 2007-03-23 02:07:41 This is a fashion faux pas that really irks me.
I see a girl dressed up nicely - fitting jeans, nice shoes, racer-back or singlet t-shirt or spaghetti strap top, and then, BAM! her bra straps are showing. Don’t they realise just how awful it looks? Not even a pretty lacey bra-strap will make that outfit look good, much less an obviously old one. It tells me that although you took the trouble to dress up on the outside, you did not bother to use the right garments on the inside. All it takes is to use a strapless bra or bandeau bra, and voila! no straps!
Some try to get around this problem, by using transparent bra-straps. Unfortunately, a transparent bra strap is made of plastic and transparent does not mean invisible. You can still see the strap, albeit, its now plastic and in my view, a little too tacky for my tastes. This is especially so, if they are wearing it with a spaghetti strap dress or top or tube dress. Do you realise how awful that looks with a tube top/dress?! Again Read more:Straps

Pure Vitamin E Oil for your face 2007-03-21 06:39:35 Pure Vitamin
E Oil as a moisturiser is a recent re-discovery for me, as well as being a recommendation from a friend. I used to use it many years back to heal acne scars but along the way, it got forgotten.
I have been using it for slightly more than a week now, and the results have been amazing! I only use it at night because its terribly sticky, and the box recommends it be left on overnight. The oil is thick and clear and its hard to spread on the skin, and be careful of your hair, if you have long hair. It sticks. The box has suggested to warm it up and apply on moisturised skin, but I haven’t gotten round to trying that.
The next morning, my skin feels soft and moisturised. by then, most of the oil has been absorbed into the skin. I usually lay a towel on my pillow so the oil doesn’t stain it. The immediate result I noticed was the lightening of the lines around my mouth, what is known as “laugh lines”. I had quite prominent laugh lines, but after about a w
Shiseido Summer 2007 collection 2007-03-20 09:35:46 I was browsing around Makeupbag.net and saw she had previewed Shiseido’s collection
for Summer
2007. I’m not usually taken in by Shiseido’s Summer collection as in the past, they tended towards browns or purples - colours that don’t grab me nor look good on me.
This time however, I think I WANT THESE!!
The collection is going to be in a pretty fuschia pink case (love!) and the eyeshadow quad actually looks like colours I could use. The other compact is Shiseido’s colour enhancer which in the previous years were like bronzers. This one looks like it may be more like a highlighter. I haven’t tried Shiseido’s lipgloss and the colour looks a bit too purple/fuschia for me.
But look at how it looks on the model!
You know where I’ll be when this launches in Malaysia! At least I hope they bring it in. Last year, they didn’t bring in the Summer collection - weird. Edit: Last year they did not bring in the Winter collection. Summer came i
Oral Skincare Supplements - Imedeen and Estime IBS 2007-03-20 09:02:40 I had a reader email me to ask what I thought about the oral skin supplements - Imedeen and Estime. There are many schools of thought about these oral skincare supplements. Some don’t believe in them. They say taking normal vitamins and supplements are good enough and these are extraneous or that they contain hormones. Others swear by them. I don’t quite subscribe to either theory, but I do take these oral skincare supplements, as introduced to me a couple of years back.
I have tried both brands. I started with Imedeen a couple of years back when they were the only player in the marker. Imedeen is expensive. The Classic one which is cheapest costs about RM200 a box which will last you a month. You take 2 tablets a day.
Imedeen is made from a marine extract. It claims to:-
Nourish your skin from the inside - all over your body with results visible in 3-6 months
Make your skin smoother and softer
Improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture

Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner value set 2007-03-20 03:17:08
I got my latest Isetan flyer for yet another sale starting this week. Nothing interested me very much except this value buy set by Bobbi Brown
. What you get (from the picture) is 2 long-wearing gel eyeliners, 1 eyeliner brush and 1 tube of what looks to be mascara. The price is RM160, which is a pretty good deal as 1 tub of eyeliner gel is already RM60 if I recall correctly. I love Bobbi Brown long wearing gel eyeliner - Its the best I’ve ever used and I’ll post my review of it soon.
If I didn’t already have 3 tubs of this stuff, I’d run out and get this value set. Then again, who needs an excuse to get more shopping done eh?
Chanel Paris-Biarritz bag collection 2007 2007-03-26 04:41:18 When I saw the new ChanelParis
-Biarritz line showcased in The Star newspaper today, I knew I had to check it out. I’ve been eyeing a lambskin quilted Chanel forever! At RM6000 for one medium sized one however, I am resigned to merely ogling it in the Chanel boutique.
That said, the bags in this new Paris-Biarritz line looks like stuff I would like as well. They are touted as Chanel’s city bags - larger bags that you can tote around the city while running your daily errands.
To be perfectly honest, I would think that toting a Chanel around town on a daily basis is just a tad too luxurious, even for me. But that doesn’t stop me ogling.
This looks like one of smooth lambskin in Chanel’s signature quilted look, with a difference. Coincidentally, it rather resembles the bag I presently carry so I can tell you that firstly, carrying a full leather bag is heavy! Secondly, the straps are a tad too short to sling over your shoulder comfortably. But hey! This is a Chan Read more:collection
Are you ready for Barbie? 2007-03-25 16:20:20 The Barbie
makeup collection by M.A.C is going to be launched tomorrow - March 26th 2007. Are you ready
for it?
Are you ready to queue at your regular M.A.C store to pick up the extremely limited edition Barbie doll created specially for MAC Cosmetics?
This doll was sold out worldwide in a blink of an eye and there are only 25 or so being sold - one to a customer please! If you get your hands on it, there might even be collectors who would pay a pretty penny for it!
I wrote about the Barbie collection in my previous blog before its release. Now, we get to see what all the hype is about.
Dare I get tattooed? 2007-03-28 02:25:26 I pass by a little tattoo parlour in Petaling Street and everytime, I look in warily, and look away again. Tattoos and tattoo pictures fascinate me. It fascinates me that people voluntarily go through all that pain and discomfort to have something permanently etched on your skin. I mean, when you are young and your skin is taut, it looks all good. But what happens when you get older and your skin starts to sag?
I know someone who has a butterfly tattooed on her ankle. That must have hurt as there is so little fat under the skin there. Another I’ve seen is a rose tattooed on her breast. Yes, just low enough that you can hide it under a shirt, but not so low that it doesn’t peek out. I hope she understood why I kept staring at her bust! Me? I’m a scaredy-cat, so no tattoos for me… not yet heh
Oh to look young again 2007-03-27 20:45:18 That must be why women have facial enhancements done on their faces - to look young
, even when they really aren’t. Its easy to tell when someone’s had botox or a lift. Their muscles don’t move and they have a perpetually surprised look. Well, to me anyway.
Most websites on plastic surgery either have a clinical look or a haphazard look to them. To me, it does not inspire confidence. However, this website by what is supposed to be Toronto best plastic surgeon is a breath of fresh air. The site is done up in refreshing green shades which is calming, and there is a professional feel to it. Its easy to navigate, and informative. I don’t plan on getting anything done on me, but if I did, then I’d definitely check this site out.
Why plastic surgery? 2007-03-27 17:31:28 A friend and I were talking about liposuction the other day. Not that she needed it of course, but we were just talking about plastic surgery in general, and the costs involved.
I was wondering what is plastic surgery that makes it so appealing to people and especially women? Does it always turn out the way you want it to? Sometimes it doesn’t, and the healing process is a long and usually painful one. I remember watching this reality series called Extreme Makeover, where they would makeover women by giving them plastic surgery where they needed it to make themselves feel beautiful. If its for medical reasons I’d support it. But if its purely for cosmetic reasons, I think its a waste of time and suffering. Women must learn to love themselves the way they are and the way God and nature intended them to be. After all, beauty ideals change over time, and if you are born in one race, you can’t possibly make yourself look like another! Just be happy with yourself, that&rs
Hair loss concerns 2007-03-27 12:19:43 I wash my hair every day. It maybe something to do with our hot and humid weather here. My scalp will get oily throughout the day, which makes my hair feel greasy. If I don’t wash my hair for one day, it straightaway feels like a cap on my head, which is really uncomfortable.
While washing my hair lately, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a lot of hair coming out in my hands. I was worried and thought I was losing my hair. Being vain, I’d probably have to go for hair restoration just so I’d look normal again. However, I checked with my hairdresser and he told me not to be unduly worried as you can afford to lose up to 50 strands of hair a day! Now, that’s a thought - imagine how much more hair there is left on your head!

Green eyeshadows rock! 2007-03-27 09:48:41 I love green eyeshadows. Somehow, they look amazing on girls with dark or brown eyes and make your eyes really stand out. Be careful though, that you don’t do a bright flourescent green from your lashline right up to your brow or you’d look like someone turned up the humidity for moss to grow!
I’ve noticed that many girls locally don’t do a lot of colour on their faces or eyes. I am possibly quite lucky in my job as I can wear practically anything or colour I want. However, to me, its a mistaken conception that colours are taboo at the workplace (unless there’s a circular saying so). You don’t need to use very bright colours all the time. Sometimes, just a hint of colour or shimmer is enough to brighten up the face.
Anyway, speaking of brightening up faces, I had a very late night yesterday due to work. I also had very little sleep. Combine the two, and what you get are sensitive red lids. As I peered into the mirror this morning, I remembered that g Read more:Green
Preview: Stila Cosmetics Summer collection 2007 2007-03-27 02:45:46 Exclusively for you, here are pictures of what you can expect from Stila cosmetics in their summer collection
for 2007!!
The picture and description below is by Mufie on MUA.
3 shadow trios, set up in a pressed-in/emboss-ish sundial design… Acapulco (white/green/brown), Mazatlan (gold, brown bronze, brown with silver shimmer) and Vallarta (pink, mauve, bronzy pink).
Then there’s supposedly a new formula of their bronzing powder… 3 lip glazes - Pina Colada (yellow gold), Spiced Rum (brown/bronze) and Daiquiri (golden pink).
And then there’s Sun Shimmer Dry Oil that smells sort of more baby powder-ish than tropical, but it gives a pretty golden shimmer.
The 3 Eyeshadow trios remind me of Estee Lauder Pure Colour trios they once had. The ironic thing is that Estee Lauder has just sold Stila so… its just odd The colours are kind of meh though. The only one that strikes me is the neutral trio. I just hope the texture is soft because they look rather ha Read more:Preview

TIP: Mist your face after powder foundation 2007-03-29 03:59:31 After applying your powder foundation or loose powder, do you find that your skin looks powdery? I sometimes do and wanted to get rid of that made up look.
Someone gave me a tip, which is to spritz a fine mist of water over your face after doing your foundation, especially powder foundation. Don’t touch it until it dries and it will set your powder foundation and make your makeup last all day.
I also remembered when I was in Hong Kong and my sister went for a Shu Uemura makeover. The makeup artist also misted her face after applying her powder foundation. So I guess its a trick makeup artists use, that we can pick up for everyday.
I tried it and it works a treat! I use Shu Uemura’s Deep Sea water because I bought a small little bottle cheap from Hong Kong. I forgot about it till now.
You can use Evian facial mist, which I might take a look at once my Shu Uemura water finishes.
But you can just use any water in a spray bottle and lightly mist your face. I’m amazed
Be careful when putting your property up for sale 2007-03-28 17:20:11 This is more of a warning post than one telling you how to sell your property
. We have a house that we have since moved out of and have put on the market for sale. When we told people we had done so, those who did not know we had moved were concerned.
Apparently, there are people who go round preying on people who advertise their houses for sale. They target houses which are put up on the market, but whose owners are still staying in there until its sold. Feigning interest in the property, they’ll come to the house purportedly to view the property, and when you let them in, they’ll rob you.
That was a worrying piece of news. I’m glad we decided to move first, then sell. Its safer, and always go with a reputable real estate marketing company instead of doing it yourself. Never compromise your personal safety just to save a few bucks!
MO Outlet for off season bargains 2007-03-28 06:28:29
No, I’m not being paid to advertise this. The MO Outlet
is an off shoot of the Melium Group that brings in luxury brands like Cole Haan, Hugo Boss, Aigner amongst others. They also own Dome cafe, as an aside.
Anyway, have you wondered what they do with the off season or past season goods? Well, that’s where the MO Outlet comes in. These off season clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories are sold at discounted prices at the MO Outlet, which is at the Melium offices headquarters in Shamelin Perkasa, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. It takes some finding, that I must say.
Even at discounted prices, the prices are still high. I once saw a pair of lovely Cole Haan wedges in my size, but had to pass on them, for they still cost RM550 after a hefty 40% discount. I just couldn’t justify buying them. However, if you are prepared to spend the money, then this place is a great place to get deals on branded items.
I’ve personally picked up 2 Cole Haan handbags here that I’d
Review: Skincare: Estee Lauder Cyber White Calming Foam Cleanser 2007-03-28 04:26:35 I dug this one out the other day from my stash. It has been a while since I’ve used anything from Estee Lauder
, but this has been in my drawer for a while. Its the CyberWhite
Calming Foam Cleanser
from the Cyber White series.
The Cyber White series is Estee Lauder
’s whitening line. On a personal note, I don’t believe in any cleanser purporting to be whitening because you wash it off, without letting it perform any whitening miracles on your skin. Be that as it may, this is a calming foam cleanser.
The cleanser comes in a 125ml tube but I find it can’t really stand on the cover, as the cover is too slim and small for the rest of the tube. A little squeeze is all you need for this cleanser foams up very quickly and there’s a lot of lather.
The lather is soft on the skin and cleans a treat. There is a fragrance that is rather strong. Estee Lauder’s skincare tends to be rather heavily fragranced which can be a turn-off. While I find that this cleanser Read more:Skincare

Review: Makeup: Maybelline XXL Mascara 2007-03-30 04:43:06
I’m a mascara novice. I never used mascara because, well, I never knew how! That is, until a friend told me to try Maybelline XXL mascara.
This mascara in a fat little tube comes with 2 ends - white colour primer and black colour mascara. The white colour goes on first, and is supposed to lengthen your lashes. The black colour volumizes it.
Does it work?
Well, I have short stick straight Asian lashes. I use the Shu Uemura curler to give my lashes a bit of a curl, then I apply the mascara. I’d say that it does lengthen my lashes and it does add some volume. I look like I have a fringe of lashes.
However, I find the brush too fat and the bristles too short. Its also rather clumpy so I get clumps in my lashes which when I try to brush out, messes up my lashes a tad. In that sense, its hard to use.
It comes in 2 formulas - Black body = non waterproof. Blue body = waterproof. I’ve only tried the non-waterproof version and it does smudge throughout the day. But only to be Read more:Makeup

Would you buy cosmetics online? 2007-03-29 11:41:11 I was chatting to a friend yesterday and we were talking about buying makeup online
. The question we posed was whether we would buy makeup/cosmetics online? Are Malaysians ready to shop online for toiletries and cosmetics?
We concurred that the answer is no.
I’ve bought makeup online before, either from online stores or through friends overseas. The problem is not in the buying of the makeup online. Its the problem of not being able to see and touch the actual product before buying it.
If you are sensitive to fragrance, you can’t tell if the smell of the item will bug you just by looking at it online. You can’t tell how the texture is. You can’t tell what it looks like on your skin or whether its suitable for you. You just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best.
I do my homework thoroughly before I buy anything online. I read reviews by users and try to get a feel of the product before I buy. Yet, I’ve ended up with duds and sometimes, expensive

Around the world in 12 Dior bags 2007-04-02 10:47:37 I came across the article in The Star about John Galliano’s latest limited edition bag collection for Dior celebrating the signature Dior Saddle Bag. Being an unashamed bag whore, my eyes immediately lit up at this collection.
I don’t own a Dior bag. Not yet… lol… Somehow Dior’s bags don’t catch my imagination, much less the pink and white logo collection that you see all over Petaling Street. I have passed by Dior so many times, I don’t even bother to step into the store anymore.
This collection however deserves a second look. I’m absolutely fascinated at the various designs, and I love how unique they all are, even if they are terribly gaudy to look at. Paired with a little black number however, it’d be the perfect accessory to tote about, and have every woman in the room look daggers at you - so jealous are they!
There are 12 in this collection, pictures of which can be found at the article in The Star. My favourite two are:

Bella Italia! 2007-04-02 04:31:15 Doris tagged me to ask where I wanted to go. This tag is rather convoluted, but I’d seen it around before, so I wasn’t as confused as I usually am. Here goes.
*** Place your 2 -3 paragraph of where you want to go here***
My #1 place to visit at the moment is Japan. I want to see the Sakura and I’m sore about the fact my trip got cancelled. However, Msau has already taken that country, so here’s mine.
Italy! I’d say the whole country, but where I’d really like to visit for now is the Tuscany countryside. I’d visited Florence when I was a student and I fell in love with the countryside. It was winter when I was there, but it was perfect weather - the sun was shining and it wasn’t so cold as to freeze off your toes. The trees were green and gold, and the villages were so quaint and so…. Italia
n! It was absolutely lovely!
I want to stay in a farmhouse in the countryside, where I can eat fresh fruit in the back garden, and spread fr
My Cole Haan Bags 2007-04-01 05:56:14 Doris left me a comment on my previous post about the MO Outlet and I’m so happy to find another Cole Haan fan! I used to walk into the Cole Haan boutique in Starhill Gallery and drool over their buttery soft leather bags, but I’d walk out again, empty-handed, as I could not justify paying the 4 figures they were asking for.
You see, I went to check out prices online and they are so much cheaper in the USA! I’d feel cheated paying RM2000 for 1 bag which you can get in the USA for say $300 (RM1200) or even less. So, I abstained.
That is, until I discovered the MO Outlet in Cheras. Suddenly, these bags became affordable! Well, just…
This one caught my eye first. Its a bright fuschia in the pic but slightly more muted in real life. I love colourful bags so I didn’t mind that it would draw attention. Its a Cole Haan Alexa range, and is rather on the long side. There is no zipper at the top but there are zippers by the side. The no zipper at the top thing bug
Faking it 2007-04-03 06:51:33
This is a controversial issue, but what is your take on fake bags?
My place of work is near Petaling Street, which is a haven for fake merchandise, ranging from bags to T-shirts and watches. I am usually assaulted by the many new designs of fake luxury bags available there, some of which don’t even exist in the arsenal of the designer houses. Its impressive what these pirates can come up with. I’m going to just talk about bags because I love bags and at one time, used to buy lots of it from all ranges. I’ve since scaled back, as my wallet thanks me every day.
My take on buying fake bags is, Don’t Do It.
If you buy a fake bag because you want to own the brand but cannot afford it, then in my view, you’d be better off not buying the fake at all. You aren’t doing the brand a favour, and you won’t appreciate it even after you buy it, because you know its fake. Your friends or family may not know it, but you will. There will be situations when you feel awkward, if in the c
