JSIS young fashion from Korea 2007-07-01 09:23:11 K-Drama and K-Pop seems to have taken over from J-drama and J-pop. K being Korea
n and J being Japanese. In fact, Korea seems to be the new force in Asia to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. How do you explain a pop sensation like Rain? I mean a name like Rain? Anyway, I digress. The point of it all is the fashion scene of Korea as depicted in the dramas screened on tv.
From what I see, there is much similarity between the Japanese and Korean fashion, especially among the young
. The young people are all about being funky and individual. And if you like Korean fashion, take a look at JSIS a brand by two brothers. Their clothes are young and trendy. There is a fun feel to it and I can just see the young here wanting to snap it all up.
Its pricey though. Dresses average about $58 and T-shirts are between $15 to $35. They are cute, I can’t deny that. However, I may be a tad too old for most of the designs. Heh…
The shipping from the site is free above $200 and if you do
Find Me! 2007-06-30 12:26:23 This site is my pet. Yes, I do do some commercials on here - even televisions do right? To pay their bills? I hope it doesn’t drive my readers away. Anyway, I was thinking of ways to optimize my site and increase its visibility. I read a lot of search engine optimization tips online and was even referred to a SEO Company in Austin. In the end, I’m not quite sure if I’m doing anything right at all! However, I’m happy with my present statistics and I hope more will drop by soon. So, spread the word eh? Thank you!
A Brazilian wax down under 2007-07-09 09:49:57 I was walking around in Bangsar and saw a store called Ministry of Strip which is a store that does waxing, including brazilian waxes. I was quite surprised to see it, for things like Brazilian
waxes aren’t things that are advertised openly here.
For the uninitiated, a Brazilian wax is the waxing of the pubic hair or bikini area. Sounds painful eh? It is, I heard. Someone I know tried to do it herself instead of paying a professional, and could not get out of the house for a week! I’m not kidding! You don’t really want to be messing around with hot wax or wax strips “down below”.
If you have heard of a Brazilian wax and are interested to try it, it would be a good idea to do some research about it online first, so you have an idea what to expect. The Brazilian Waxing Guide is a good place to start to read up about what it is and what it entails.
A Brazilian wax is a scary thought for me. However, it might not be for you, especially if you enjoy wearing bikinis or swimsuits th
Am I vain? 2007-07-09 05:43:43 Giddy Tiger told us how vain she was (89%!) and then tagged me to see how vain I am on the vain-o-meter.
Are you surprised at the results below? I mean I do run a beauty site and all…
You Are 47% Vain
You’re a little vain, but more than anything you have a healthy amount of confidence.Thinking the world of yourself is great. Just don’t think less of those who aren’t as pretty as you!
How Vain Are You?
Honestly, I’m not hehe… I’m vain to an extent but I’ve pretty much gotten more comfortable with me in recent years. That is, in my view, more important than anything you can put on your face or body.
Here were my answers to the questions:
1. You check out your reflection in windows. - Sometimes. I check to see my hair isn’t sticking out in 20 directions as its wont to do but otherwise I don’t primp Part of the reason is because windows aren’t reflective enough. Now, give me a shiny surface and you can bet I&rs
Kanebo items on sale 2007-07-07 23:33:41 This is a heads up for anyone who wants to buy selected Kanebo brand skincare and T’estimo makeup.
The Kanebo salon at Bangsar (Jalan Telawi - a few doors away from Guardian Pharmacy) is going to have a special discount promotion on their products on 13-14 July 2007. They will remain open till 10.00pm on those two days.
The discounts go up to 50% on selected items. If you like T’estimo makeup - lipsticks, gloss, eyeshadow, blushes, this is a good time to pick up some bargains. Its the past seasons colours that are going on sale, but one of those palettes (Fresh Clear Eyes) is of excellent quality, and I love their lipsticks which will also be going for pretty much a song.
The regular skincare lines are going for 10% off if I recall correctly and one or two discontinued lines might be going for more discounts. So, if you use Kanebo skincare, this is a good time to stock up.
So don’t forget these 2 dates - 13 and 14 July 2007.
Shopping for a new car 2007-07-07 23:19:07 As Giddy Tigers so cleverly spotted, I drive a Toyota Vios. It’s a few months old now and I’m happy to say that I’m very glad I bought it instead of the Honda City that I was comparing it to. I feel it handles better. I was driving a 15 year old Honda Civic belonging to my dad before this. Its in excellent condition but the car had to go to someone else hehe… Anyway, I thought long and hard before committing to a new car, simply because of the price. Over here, the amount of money spent on a car, especially a better car, can be nearly equivalent to that of a small house. Its obscene.
And that’s not considering the car loans and the monthly installment payments. I managed to get a pretty decent interest rate on my loan after some wrangling. Getting the loan was not a problem, because Toyota has some tie up with the bank. The problem was in them approving the “special rate” loan for a lower loan sum. I don’t like taking loans and paying interest, which is why Read more:Shopping
The bag that got away 2007-07-06 00:52:05 I posted previously about the Anya Hindmarch “I’m not a Plastic Bag” bag that launched in KLCC today 6th July 2007.
I woke up early and dragged my sorry self to KLCC at about 8am intended to queue for the bag that retails at RM55. Its probably the only Anya Hindmarch bag I can afford! Anyway, I was also there to try to score a bag for my sister and Doris.
When I got to the 2nd floor, I was stunned to see a queue snaking all the way from the store front to the centre of the mall and it kept going! Horrifying! The signs said that the queue was to start from 7am.
They queued but did they get it?
It was only 8.15am by the time I got there and the store opens at 10am. I took a look at the 300 or so people sitting and standing in the queue and I thought “Sod it!” There was no way I was going to sit there for 2 hours, with no guarantee of getting the bag. The sales assistant had told me over the phone that I could queue but “There is no guarantee you can
Bobbi Brown Stonewashed Nudes collection 2007-07-13 10:44:52
Bobbi Brown
’s Stonewashed Collection is sending ripples of excitement through fans of neutral and natural shades. This collection
is reminiscent of Bobbi Brown’s signature neutral colours.
If you missed out on the Chocolate collection last year, you might want to check this one out as it too is a Limited Edition collection.
I’m looking forward to seeing the Stonewashed Nudes eyeshadow palette. Like the Chocolate palette from last year, there are 7 colours in this eyeshadow palette, which is housed in a slim narrow case.
The case is shiny black sturdy plastic with the name Bobbi Brown in white which is the signature Bobbi Brown packaging. It comes with a double ended eyeshadow brush with one fluffy end and one flat end to line.
The eyeshadow palette will have 6 limited edition colours that are only available in this palette. Only Espresso, the darkest colour for lining is a regular colour. There are 3 eyeshadows and 4 shimmer wash eyeshadows in light and dark shades
My Apologies 2007-07-12 09:57:19 I apologise to anyone who has been trying to access this site for the past 2 days. There was a problem with the server I’m hosted at, and my site had to be migrated to another server.
In the process, there was some down time as various technological things clicked into place to get it running smoothly again. It seems to be working normally now, so do come by soon for more new women stuff!

Review: Makeup: Lunasol Intellectual Lips lipstick 2007-07-10 09:26:21 I previously wrote about Lunasol finally making it to our shores. It is found exclusively at the Kanebo counter in Isetan in Lot 10 for now. Anyway, as part of their launching promotion, they had 15 exclusive sets of eyeshadow quads and lipsticks going at a special price of RM180.
I was lucky enough to pick up a set at this special price and this is a review of the lipstick - Intellectual

Cooking with stainless steel cookware 2007-07-16 00:51:23
When I moved house and set up my own kitchen, I invested in a good stainless steel cookware set. I made sure that the one I bought was at least 18/10 stainless steel which reflects the content of the steel, and I made sure that they had nice thick bottoms. This is because I like cooking food with sauces and a pan with a thick bottom distributes heat better without burning the food or sauce inside it.
Another thing you might want to consider when buying cookware is the cover. If you buy a set with a clear glass cover, then you can easily see what’s cooking without having to open the lid. Cooking food can get very hot, so a clear lid is of great help. This also helps you keep the heat constant without having to introduce cold air every time you open the lid. I find it most helpful when steaming food because steamed food requires an even cooking temperature.
However, one thing I don’t quite like about stainless steel cookware is the fact that it does stain, to a degree. The p
Review: Makeup: Lunasol Skin Modeling eyeshadow quad 2007-07-13 21:27:53 This is a review of the Lunasol Skin Modelling Eyeshadow quad. It was part of Lunasol’s Sping 2007 collection. Lunasol is a department store brand under the Kanebo umbrella, and it is priced in the medium-high end spectrum. It is presently found in some countries in Asia - Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and now, Malaysia.
I got the Skin Modelling eyeshadow quad in EX-3 - Pink Beige and this is my review. (more…)

Supermarket brands of cleaners don’t work as well 2007-07-13 00:31:06 I was cleaning my bathroom yesterday under the watchful eyes of my mother who was visiting. She was chatting to me as I scrubbed the bathroom floor and sink with my regular cleaner – Cif formerly known as Jif. She nodded approvingly at my choice of bathroom cleaner, and warned me not to go with the generic supermarket own brand ones, no matter how similar they looked.
She said that the supermarket ones, though a lot cheaper and looked the same, did not have the cleaning properties of the original branded cleaners
. She found herself using more of it, and in the process, it no longer worked out to be as cheap, because you end up buying cleaners more often. I noted what she said, for I knew that nothing would escape the dirt radar detectors of my mom. If she said it was crap, I’d better listen to her!
I do find that to a degree, what she says is the truth, for from experience, some supermarket own brand items are just not up to par with the originals. I guess some corners had to be c Read more:Supermarket
Plan your holidays in advance 2007-07-12 00:29:32 Summer approaches, and with it, holidays! For us here in the tropics, the next long public holiday we all can look forward to is the Hari Raya festive break. We can expect many people moving about then, whether within the country or out of the country.
So, a tip for you is to plan your holiday and book your air tickets and hotels early. You don’t want to be caught by escalating air fares and tour package prices, and you also don’t want the disappointment of being told that everything is “fully booked”.
I may be away then though I haven’t decided where and this time, my family and I were thinking of using our timeshare service to book Condo Hotels. We like staying in these sort of hotels, as it gives us more freedom and bigger spaces to work with, rather than a cramped hotel room. Now the next question is – where are we going?
Review: Bath & Body: Eucerin Sensitive Skin Protective Wash lotion 2007-07-18 09:52:17
I was given this bottle of Eucerin Sensitive
Skin Protective PH5 Wash Lotion by a friend. Another friend had told me lots of good things about this brand and I was really wanting to try it. She uses this wash lotion
all over, even as a facial cleanser!
I don’t go as far as to use it as a facial cleanser, but I really like this for use in the shower. It has a light powdery citrusy smell which I find very refreshing. At least it is not loaded with all the fragrances you get in shower gels.
I could not get information on this anywhere else but on the German site of Eucerin, so if you can read German, then you might want to read more about the product here. Otherwise, this is a rough Google translation of the page.
This is a very mild cleanser that is good for those who have sensitive and dry skin, or have problem using soap cleaners. It has a PH5 which is close to that of natural skin and helps protect the skin barrier from drying out as soaps usually do.
I found that if I use it,
Put some air in your shoes 2007-07-17 23:02:49
I don’t think any basketball player managed to romanticize the sport as much as Michael Jordan did. Not only did he make the game appeal to many, he ended up being a brand unto himself. Even Nike, the shoe brand, made a shoe named just after him - Air Jordans. How special is that?! I haven’t bought any - they are too expensive here. But I have tried them on, and they are super comfy as far as sneakers go. Definitely not kidding when they called it “Air” Jordans.

Why don’t corporations give pink coolers? 2007-07-17 22:57:21
Look at this lovely pink personalized cooler I spotted online. Its from those companies that specialize in printing corporate gifts like pens and mugs. You can print your company name and logo on it and give it out for your next company promotion.
I don’t know why but I always end up getting personalized cups. I have a whole slew of cups and mugs in my house that are gifts from various banks and corporations
. Its great because I don’t have to buy cups and mugs, but if only they gave out cute pink coolers like this. Sigh… Corporations are so… male!
Ephedra health warning 2007-07-17 03:53:11 If you take dietary supplements or slimming pills for weight loss, do check the ingredient list to see if it contains Ephedra. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned the use of Ephedra in dierary supplements as research has shown that this herbal drug increases blood pressure and stresses the heart thereby leading to an increased risk of heart problems. So, if you want to embark on a course of slimming pills, please check to see they are a Ephedra-free and that they are approved for use by the Ministry of Health. Being slim is one thing. Dying for beauty is another story altogether. You can read more about Ephedra online by googling “ephedra”.

I have been seeing this in Guardian pharmacy every now and then and it piqued my interest. I could not find much information about this online, so I decided to bite the bullet and try it.

Chia Pets - Watch them grow! 2007-07-16 21:38:35
I’ve been looking for decorative greens to brighten up my house and I might have found it in Chia Pets. The Chia Pets come in a terracotta planter pot designed in the shape of an animal and you sprinkle the seeds provided, water them and watch them grow.
I know kids will love them and it will teach them the value of looking after a plant. Plus, it will be fun to watch the greenery sprout. I don’t really have much of a green thumb but this looks quite idiot-proof. I doubt even I could kill this one!
Provide for the future 2007-07-15 21:33:14 My birthday will be coming up in a few months and that means its time to pay up my term life insurance premiums again. Ouch! From my experience, its useful to have life insurance, but only to a degree. You don’t have to run out and buy one every time that someone offers to sell you a package. After all, its not something you can take with you when you are gone and it goes to benefit your beneficiaries. If you are planning to purchase insurance however, start when you are young. Your premiums will be lower which will be easier on the pocket. Also, opt to pay monthly instead of a lump sum at the end of the year. This way, you don’t feel it so much. I made the mistake of opting for a lump sum payment. Double ouch!
Got a fancy bathroom vanity? 2007-07-19 05:20:44
Looking at these, I thought they were some fancy chest of drawers in a Victorian bedroom somewhere. Or even maybe a television amoire. But nope. These are bathroom
vanities! Gosh! Fancy stuff eh? I can’t imagine it in my little bathroom though. It would fill up the whole space and the wood would probably fade from exposure to the tropical sun streaming in through my window. But its nice to dream nonetheless eh?
Why it is called a cruise line of shoes? 2007-07-19 04:48:45
I pulled this off Gucci’s site. I can’t link it as its flash based. But this is Gucci’s Cruise line of shoes
. I don’t quite get it, honestly. Why is this line called the Cruise line? Is it because women wear them when they go on cruises? I can’t honestly see myself prancing around in 3 inch stilettos on a cruise ship, no matter how big or how stable they tell you it is.
That said, I think some of the shoes actually look pretty good. Take the one in the middle for example. I can so see myself wearing them. Not on a cruise however, but maybe while cruising the streets. I can’t imagine I’d be able to walk in them very long anyway.
Beauty Roundup: July 2007 2007-07-19 04:35:29 This is the first installment of my Beauty
Roundup series. If you wish to be featured, please read about my Beauty Roundup project and drop me a line. As this is my first installment, I would like to highlight some articles written in the recent weeks that I think would be interesting. It is no secret that these sites/blogs are ones I visit often and some of the authors are, I’m happy to say, friends.
I go through periods of suffering from chapped or dry lips, so Tine’s review of the Kanebo Sensai Total Lip Treatment piqued my interest. You might find it useful too.
I haven’t tried L’Occitane skincare, only their shea butter cream, but Sesame loves L’Occitane facial skincare like the L’Occitane Honey Comfort Mask. Her raves on this line makes me want to try it out!
I used to frequent Tous - a Spanish jewellery line and I’m happy that Doris featured the cute little Tous Heart Pendant. The little bear never fails to make me go “Awww&helli
Compare your shopping sites before you buy 2007-07-18 20:26:36 Shopping online is much the same as shopping in stores. The difference is that you have access to many more stores than you would were you to get into your car and drive to each one. However, as a savvy consumer, just as you would compare prices at the stores, you should compare your prices of online stores to, to make sure that you get the best possible price.
For example, if you are looking for light pendants for your rooms, try running a search by Bizrate.com. You will be given a whole list of sites that stock pendant lighting and the prices of their products so you can compare them at a glance. Bizrate.com also allows the users to rate the online stores according to their satisfaction levels and so, you can tell if other consumers would recommend a particular store or not. This is important, for when you shop online, you can’t tell what the store is really like. Just because it has a good looking website does not mean that it has good customer service or a decent returns poli Read more:Compare
Beauty Roundup on My Women Stuff 2007-07-18 19:51:52 I am going to start something new here and I hope to get the support of all beauty bloggers in and out of Malaysia. I know there aren’t many in Malaysia or maybe I just haven’t discovered you yet. But I hope to. I also hope to discover more beauty and fashion related sites outside of Malaysia.
What I plan to do is to spread the word about your site by doing a Beauty
Roundup twice a month. I won’t ask for you to link me back in return - its your call - but I hope to highlight some interesting sites and articles from women who are interested in beauty and fashion and who love to keep themselves beautiful.

I was away 2007-07-23 03:22:11 I was away down in Singapore, taking a look at the Great Singapore Sale. That explains my silence the last couple of days.
I was quite surprised that this round, I hardly found anything to buy. Clothes wise, I realised that although the variety in Singapore was more, the prices too were higher, even after the discounts. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I could probably find something similar here in Kuala Lumpur at the same price in RM which would mean a saving of 2.2 times! Instant discount.
However, a caveat is that branded goods there are awesome, if you like the stuff. Gucci was on sale up to 70% - yep you saw that right. It was only their floral line from a couple of years back, but if you aren’t fussy, hey! That’s a hefty saving! I’ve never seen Gucci go on sale for 70% discount here. And they had a special 1 week discount of 30% off on selected pieces of the travel collection that usually never go on sale. I was surprised.
But I ended up with nothing i
