Never too early to dress up for Halloween 2007-05-09 06:34:08 It’s a bit too early for Halloween
but don’t let that stop you from doing some early planning. If you have children, they usually have very set ideas about what they’d like to be for Halloween and it won’t do for you to be rushing around like a harried mother hen at the last minute, to find that perfect pair of fairy wings that your darling 8 year old just must have!
The best thing to do is to let the experts handle it at Halloweenexpress.com. I am absolutely boggled at the range of costumes they stock! I never know it was possible to find all the costumes I’ve ever wanted to dress
myself in in one place. At HalloweenExpress.com you get costumes for both adults and children, from the full costume to just masks and wigs. Sometimes, its so hard to find that particular look to be the captivating witch but you can get it here. And for kids who love Harry Potter, and with the latest movie and book coming out, guess who would want to be Harry Potter this Halloween?

Give Simple - lovely and simple gift site 2007-05-08 07:06:37 Give Simple is a gift website that has the policy of stocking simple but meaningful gifts. They seem to be catered for Moms but that might be because of the coming Mother’s Day. But their gifts are definitely targeted for women and the women in your lives.
An example of the items they carry are these Peacelovemom T-shirts. They look so soft and comfortable and make wonderful gifts for your mom or yourself or your wife if she’s a mom! They retail for $38 for the short sleeved T-shirts and $49 for the long sleeved ones. I would love to get them but unfortunately I’m not a Mom!
I particularly love these little vases. Inspired by milk bottles, they are a plain white with a little image on them and the words “Love”, “Mom”, “Thank You”, “Best Friends”, “Happily”and “Baby”. They are so adorable! I can just picture them on my dining table or display cabinet with some flowers in them. Anyone who receives
Review: Makeup: Kanebo Media UV Makeup Base 2007-05-07 17:15:06
I’d never used a makeup base before this. That is, until I had a makeover done at Kanebo one day. They used a liquid over my face before applying the foundation. I asked what it was and they told me it was a makeup base.
According to the makeup artist, using a makeup base before applying your foundation and the rest of your makeup helps it last longer. It acts as a base, something for your foundation and powders to grab onto. It operates on the same principle as when you paint. Before applying the paint colour on the walls, painters will apply a coat of primer or base first. This helps the paint adhere better and keep the colours brighter. Well, makeup is like painting, so this principle has been translated across to the makeup world. In fact, some brands call their makeup bases “primer”. Same principle.
I could not afford the makeup base used on me though - Kanebo Revue at RM125 for a little bottle. So, I shopped around, and came upon Kanebo Media UV Makeup
Base. Th
Protect your lovely peepers! 2007-05-14 08:57:22
Sunglasses are not just a fashion accessory. They are in fact, recommended by ophtalmologists (eye doctors) to protect your eyes from the sun and UV rays. If you have had Lasik done to your eyes, you would understand how essential a good pair of sunglasses is.
To protect your eyes, make sure that the sunglasses you get are dark enough. If you live in a tropical country as I do, the sun can be very strong so a dark pair of glasses is essential. If you can, try to get a pair with polarized lenses. These type of lenses help cut glare as well as light. Some of their lenses may not look so dark but when you put them on, you’ll notice immediately how much more comfortable your vision is. Once you use polarised lenses you won’t want to go back to normal lenses again.
Life & Style has a selection of sunglasses presently endorsed by the stars. From appearances, it would look as if oversized sunnies are still here to stay. I’m still looking for a pair myself. In the meant Read more:Protect
Francesco Biasia bag and Botkier Trigger sale 2007-05-14 03:48:51
This is my latest unexpected purchase.
A Francesco Biasia bag at a glorious 50% off! Woohoo! It was last season’s but I’m not fussy. Its of a very soft calf leather and I liked it because the design looked classic and best of all, it looked great when I carried it.
It being in black is a bonus. I don’t usually carry black bags. I’m averse to them as I’m all about colour. Given a choice, I’d rather hit up a red, yellow or orange bag than a black one.
Incidentally, I saw the other Francesco Biasia I was eyeing in the Isetan catalogue. Fortunately, I decided I didn’t really like it very much in person. It was too large and the orange was more brown than orange. There was a smaller version in a cognac colour that did catch my eye but at a 4 figure price tag and a paltry 10% off, I was happy to skip it.
I’d say its a smallish bag that sits nicely on my shoulder but that’s ok by me as I’ve been looking for a bag of this size for Read more:Botkier
Summer 2007 IT beauty 2007-05-13 10:54:24 Every summer, fruity scents and light bronzed makeup is the order of the day. For Summer
2007, Elle magazine in their USA June 2007 edition has unveiled the IT beauty must haves for summer.
I love Stella the perfume. So Stella Sheer sounds like something I would like too. And the bottle is gorgeous of course! The Shiseido The Makeup glosses are already available at all Shiseido counters in Kuala Lumpur. The cover is red this year, just like that of their eyeshadow quad. They are limited edition.
Do not forget to take a look at Guerlain’s Pucci meteorites powder. I hear its rather similar to their Mythic (Original) coloured meteorites powder but more sparkly. The case is gorgeous of course.
Dior’s Diorplay dice with lipgloss in it make a great handbag accessory as well as useful for freshening up your gloss. Useful when you are out partying or going to the beach. Dior glosses are among my favourite glosses anyway.
Elle June 2007 edition goes on sale in the USA from 15 May 2
Review: Makeup: Elianto Eye and lip makeup remover 2007-05-18 02:38:02
Elianto is a Korean-Malaysian cosmetics brand that targets the lower end market. Their products are sold in the same way that many other mid-low end Korean cosmetics are sold i.e. in kiosks or stand alone stores, with a wide display of their wares.
It brings to mind a buffet counter with spreads of colours for eyes, lips, cheeks, face, skincare lining the shelves etc. Elianto falls in the low end in terms of pricing and I feel it targets and appeals to teens or those starting out in makeup. At RM5 an eyeshadow, their products are very afforable.
My review today is for their Green Tea Lip & Eye Makeup Remover. My current makeup remover is down to its last drops and I was passing by an Elianto store so I thought to pop in to see what they had to offer.
Their lip and eye makeup remover comes like many other such removers in the market i.e. 2 toned. You must shake the bottle to mix the 2 products together before applying it on a cotton pad and applying it to your eyes and lips.

Bag Borrow or Steal! 2007-05-17 07:34:30 I came across Bag Borrow
or Steal
while searching for clutches. Yes yes I still have not found my clutch yet. But there was tons on this site.
I was rather taken in by these.
Bag Borrow or Steal has an interesting concept that I have not seen elsewhere. Essentially, by signing up as a member of the site, they let you “borrow” designer bags and jewellery which you can keep for as long as you like, and when the fad has run its course, you can return the bag and borrow another one.
Looks to be easy on the pocket eh? Sorta like a Rent-a-bag. Especially great for those who like to be seen with the latest and hippest but don’t have the financial clout to own everything in the market. Actually, someone sorta like me hehe…
In fact, it works great if you attend a lot of functions or are in a job that requires you to meet and mingle with the fashion crowd. This way you save your money and yet are seen with the hottest fashion accessories of the season.

Stila is coming to Metrojaya Midvalley 2007-05-17 07:09:57
For all fans of Stila Cosmetics, here’s some good news for those of you who find it too much of a hassle getting to their counters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In addition to the Stila counters at U Parkson, 1 Utama and Parkson Grand at KLCC, Stila will be opening soon at Metrojaya Midvalley Megamall!
The slated opening date is June 2007. So, keep a look out for it. I’m happy for finally, I’ll have a Stila counter nearer to my place of work so its easier to pop by.
Prevent wrinkles and premature aging 2007-05-19 05:09:48 I’m no expert but here are some tips I have picked up from over the years to prevent wrinkles
and premature aging. Nothing tells age more than wrinkles, especially those around the eyes.
Wrinkles and skin elasticity has a lot to do with lifestyle and genetics, but you can use these tips to delay the inevitable.
Eyes
The skin on your eyelids and around your eyes are very thin and delicate. Constant pulling and tugging on them will cause them to stretch and this will cause wrinkles. To prevent wrinkles and avoid premature aging, try these tips:
When removing eye makeup, don’t pull or tug on your eyelid. Instead, saturate a cotton pad with eye makeup remover then hold it over your eye for a few seconds before lightly swiping across your eye. This will help the remover dissolve and loosen your eye makeup and make it easier to remove.
When using waterproof makeup, always use an eye makeup remover that can remove waterproof makeup to prevent tugging.
Use an eye cream. Even eyeli
Art imitating life? 2007-05-17 11:00:19 Watching TV crime series never cease to amaze me, not only the technology involved in fighting crime these days, but also the many ways in which they can track a person’s DNA. A strand of hair or a fingernail or even a scrap of skin can turn out to be a vital clue to capturing a miscreant. The other thing that never ceases to amaze me about TV detectives are how well turned out their female detectives are. In real life, few female cops wear makeup and those who do only wear lipstick. I guess this is an instance where art does not imitate life.
Review: Makeup: Maybelline Unstoppable Shiny Black mascara 2007-05-22 10:23:57 I was reading The Sun newspaper and came across a press review of the new Maybelline UnstoppableShinyBlack
mascara. I don’t know what got into me, but I just HAD to try this one. I’m presently using Lancome Flextencils which I think is really great. However, its starting to dry up so I was on the hunt for something new.
Maybelline has a present line called Unstoppable mascara in a silvery grey tube. It never interested me and I read lots of rants about it. However, this one is in a black tube with a silver top on the cap. I compared the 2 at the counter but could not see what was different between the new and old one save for the difference in the colour of the tube. I can’t find any information online about this item either.
I’m guessing that its called Shiny Black as the colour is supposed to be a shiny black on your lashes. Also its called Unstoppable as its of the same formula. I’m only guessing so if someone can enlighten me I’d appreciate it Read more:Makeup
Review: Makeup: Eye Majic Instant Eyeshadow 2007-05-21 10:21:04 I had written about Eye Majic previously after I stumbled upon it online. I also read that it had been featured on Oprah and anything featured on Oprah is bound to garner a lot of interest. Among the many comments I got about this product were questions about where to buy it from and I compiled 2 sites from comments made.
Sharon, of the New Zealand Eye Majic distributor contacted me and was kind enough to offer to send me a sample of each of the 12 colours currently available to try out! I was thrilled! She kept to her word and a week later, I found a package on my desk with 2 boxes of Eye Majic instant eyeshadow inside.
The boxes were larger than I had expected. Each box would contain 7 pairs of a colour but for this purpose, I had one of each colour in it. The side of the box gives very clear and precise instructions on how this instant eye shadow is to be worn. Essentially, you press the pad containing the colour on your closed eyelid for about 4 seconds, then slide the strip off a Read more:Makeup

Stila All Over Shimmer Eyes sale - limited time 2007-05-28 00:47:18
Are you a fan of loose powder eyeshadow? Or maybe you have heard so much about Stila’s All Over Shimmer
Eyes loose powder eyeshadow but have not tried them because they cost RM65 for one little tiny pot?
Well, here’s a sale worth running for. Stila’s little pots of eye colour are now only US$7 (RM28) on Strawberrynet.com for a limited
time. There are 3 colours available #3 - Lilac as in picture, #8 - Charcoal grey, #9 - Teal/Turquoise.
I have #3 and its a shimmery lilac on the eyes. Its blue toned which is good as it doesn’t make my eyes look puffy or like I’ve been crying as purples are wont to do. If you get it for US$7 its great value for money because the pot is really tiny. If you have to pay full price (US$16), then I’d reconsider.
Strawberrynet.com offers free shipping worldwide and I’ve had great experiences with them. They take paypal so if you have some money from paid posts languishing in your account why not splurge a little on yo
Graphic T-shirts at VJU Cool 2007-06-02 03:40:17 About a year or two ago, graphic T-shirts were all the rage. In fact I’d go so far as to say that they still are. There are so many brands in the market with so many designs that the mind boggles.
When I choose T-shirts, I usually go for comfort fist and design second. I like t-shirts that are fitted closely to the body instead of those that are large and baggy as was the fashion in the 80’s. Fitted t-shirts look so much better with jeans too.
A good site for graphic t-shirts is VJU cool. This company was founded in 2006 in Italy by a graphic design studio. You can see that the designs are very unique in the market and will appeal to the young and the young at heart. Their designs are printed on T-shirts for both men and women. I like that for men and women have different body structures and whereas men’s t-shirts tend to be straight and long, women’s are more fitted to the body.
These are some of the designs that caught my eye and which I’d buy given the opportunity to.

Outlet store shopping 2007-06-02 03:03:06 I’d been reading about the many branded outlet stores found in the USA. These outlet stores usually sell the out of season or old season clothes and accessories at a lower price. A friend from Hong Kong picked up 2 Coach bags at only a couple of ringgit a piece! Considering they retail for 4 figures here, you can bet I’m dying to get there. I’ve been thinking of visiting Florida and renting an Orlando vacation home for the duration of my stay. Going to Florida will satisfy my desire to visit Disney World and do my shopping at the same time.

What are you getting dad? 2007-06-02 02:57:26 With Father’s Day around the corner, have you thought of what to get your dear dad yet? I usually just take my parents out for a nice dinner a day or two before so we don’t have to fight with the crowds. Gift wise I haven’t bought any gifts for either parent specifically for Father’s or Mother’s day for a few years now. For my dad, its always harder because he doesn’t play golf or I’m sure a set of golf clubs would come in handy. I guess we are going to just have dinner and a night out as usual this year.
Review: Makeup: Kanebo Kate gel eyeliner 2007-05-31 09:45:08 This is a new item from Kate Cosmetics, sub-brand of Kanebo. Actually, its not entirely new. It was launched in Japan early this year - Jan/Feb 2007 and is now already available in Hong Kong. I guess it’ll take a while before it reaches our shores. Mine was courtesy of a good friend from Hong Kong who sent it to me.
The Kate gel eyeliner comes in a little glass pot, very similar to that of Bobbi Brown and MAC. However, the pot is smaller and product is less. The great thing about this however, is that it comes with an eyeliner brush!
Yes, every single pot comes packaged in a plastic box with that brush in it. Its a great little brush too. Its bristles are short and flat which is good for lining. The bristles are also very firm but soft. I’d buy this just for the brush alone. You don’t get better brushes elsewhere for as cheap.
My eyeliner is BK-2 which is a black with glitter. You can’t see the glitter in the picture, but once you dig in with the brush, you&rs Read more:Makeup
Review: Makeup: Guerlain Radiant blush 2007-06-03 22:12:56 I never used to look at Guerlain
’s blush
es for the simple reason that the brand does not excite me. I associate it with older women and the fact that the Guerlain counter at the malls are always quiet and manned by older ladies doesn’t help that image.
However, on a whim, I purchased 2 Guerlain Radiant
blushes from StrawberryNET.com a couple of months ago when they were running a promotion. The two I got were Apricot Souffle D’or and Rose Pluie D’or. D’or in French indicates that there’s gold shimmer and I like shimmer in blushes.
Packaging
The blushes come in a large square case with a beaten gold cover. The bottom that houses the blushes is a clear plastic and the back has a large circle with a colour matching the blush inside and the name printed on it. I guess it makes it easier to locate the colour you want without having to open it up. The case is easy to open and it comes with a brush that I never use anyway. Its always a surprise to me to se Read more:Makeup
The bargain hunter strikes again! 2007-06-03 11:12:11
All these clothes were the result of a very satisfactory bargain hunting trip to a Giordano warehouse sale. Giordano, a brand of casuals from Hong Kong, has this sale about 2 to 3 times a year to clear their old stock.
Some stuff are pretty old from maybe 2-3 years ago, but are new stock. However, if you aren’t fussy about keeping in fashion with T-shirts and jeans, this is a good time to stock up on your weekend casuals. I love a bargain more than I do looking up to date, so I was happy to pick out loads of stuff. It helps that most of the T-shirts I picked out were of the plain variety and classic designs so they never go out of style.
So, whats the damage you ask? RM155 (approx US$48) for all the clothes pictured above. There are about 40 pieces of clothing in that total so I guess you can say that yes, bargain hunting never got so good. Woohoo!
Problems sleeping? 2007-06-08 02:29:20 I sometimes have problems sleeping at night and its worse if I have to travel. I guess I’m quite sensitive to being in strange beds in hotels and because the hotel room is different from what I’m used to, it affects my sleep. I came across this site that sells sound machines that helps one sleep. The machine will play white noise that corresponds to Delta, Alpha or Theta brainwaves thereby helping your body relax and allowing you to fall asleep more easily. The sounds are based on nature like the ocean surf or rain. I love falling asleep to rain so I know the sounds of rain will definitely help me sleep!
Since sleep is essential for beauty and health, I should really take a look at this machine. They even have a travel version for when you have to travel as I sometimes do. It comes complete with an alarm clock even. The sound machine retails for $99 and the travel version for $89.
What is on my dressing table? 2007-06-07 11:28:37 Heavens! Sooyin tagged me on this and seriously, you do not want to see my dressing table because its a mess. But here are my answers to the questions posed.
What five beauty products could you not live without?
Honestly, there’s nothing I can’t live without. Everything is replaceable to a degree and I have replaced most of them. So, what I’ll do is choose 5 of my favourite beauty products.
L’oreal UV Perfect SPF 50 sunscreen
Bobbi Brown long wear gel eyeliner
Make Up For Ever Full Cover concealer
Kanebo Faircrea UV Pact 2 way foundation powder
Vasline petroleum jelly to keep my lips chap free and glossy
The best part is that I can go out with just those 5 things on my face and feel pretty good about it!
What’s the worst beauty mistake you’ve made?
Letting a facialist have her way with trimming my eyebrows. I ended up with little squiggly sperm wriggling above my eye. Ew…
What’s your skincare regime consist of?

Review: Makeup: Shiseido Maquillage eyeshadow palette 2007-06-11 02:13:04 When the Shiseido Maquillage line was first launched, I was quite excited to try their products. I am a little allergic to Shiseido The Makeup
’s eyeshadow so was curious to see if I would be similarly affected by the Maquillage line.
I got the eyeshadow palette
in BL761 which is a blue based palette.
The palette is quite big in size but isn’t bulky. There are 3 powder eyeshadows and one cream liner which is very useful. The 3 colours are a light shimmer blue, light shimmer yellow and seafoam teal. The liner is a dark cobalt blue.
I found the eyeshadow colours a bit sheer. The light blue applies nearly white on the lids with fine shimmer. The yellow is a highlight shade and is a light champagne on. The main colour is actually that of the seafoam which also applies sheer. The dark blue liner is smooth and creamy and easy to apply. However, I found the colours faded by the end of the day, which isn’t very good.
Overall, I found the texture of the powder shadows soft and
Do not pour shampoo directly on your scalp 2007-06-10 11:18:40 I had a bit of a scare as a child. When I was in school, I was horrified to discover that I was balding. Yes, I was not yet in my teens and already I had a bald spot forming! It was growing day by day and I did not know what I could do about it. My mom was getting worried too, and I was already thinking I had to undergo hair replacement as I got older. My mom went through my hair regime with me thoroughly and that was when we discovered that I had been putting the shampoo
directly on my head without first lathering.
I’d pour the shampoo into the palm of my hand then slap it straight on my head, directly on where the bald spot was forming! Mystery solved. I started lathering up first BEFORE putting the shampoo on my head and never had problems since. So, lesson learnt and you don’t have to learn it the hard way. I did!
Tinseltown gossip 2007-06-10 11:14:17 The hottest news in Tinseltown must be that of Paris Hilton and her jail in and outs saga. It looks like she’s spending more time out of jail than in it! I guess that’s what being an heiress is all about. When you have the money and nothing better to do with your time, you find ways to make yourself famous. Paris does it by being deliberately shocking. Not all heirs and heiresses are like that though. Why not read through the blog of George Linderman Jr on all the celeb goss. After all, no one knows an heiress better than another!
Where to find kids costumes 2007-06-08 10:53:00 I received a frantic phone call from a friend a few days ago. Her 5 year old daughter, Anna, was going to her first fancy dress party and was quite adamant on going as a witch. My poor friend was at her wits end trying to find the appropriate costume that would suit her little princess. I could not help stifling a giggle as I recalled a skit from tv about a child frightening herself after looking into the mirror and seeing her reflection of herself in costume as a witch.
Anyway, to help my friend out, I recalled a previous occasion when I had come across Halloweenexpress.com. Their choices of Costumes were very extensive and looked pretty good too. I told my friend Anna would make a darling Rainbow Witch or a sweet little Barbie witch.
If Anna wasn’t so set on being a little sorceress, I would have loved to see her in a Princess Barbie outfit or as Cinderella going to the ball. Every little girl longs to be a princess right? So, I really don’t know where she got her idea of a witch
Throw Cushions brighten up a home 2007-06-07 07:32:49 There’s been a really good pre-renovation sale in town recently, for home furniture. I went to take a look and boy! Is it a haven for those furnishing new or renovated homes, or what?! Prices were marked down between 50% to 90%. It was very tempting to buy something new for the home. I settled for throw cushions instead which were only RM6.90 each. These brightly coloured cushions will definitely cheer up my couch and my living room.

Gifts from a friend 2007-06-06 11:27:28 A good friend
got back from San Diego last week and brought me back a ton of American makeup and goodies! There were loads of things we don’t get here, which was really fun. Of course I’d asked her to help me shop for some of them, and she had kindly gotten me other things she thought I’d like. I asked what she was doing in San Diego other than visiting Sea World and she told me she was assisting in an arbitration in San Diego! Wow! It sounds so glamourous. She laughed when I said so and told me it was all hard work. At least she found some time to do my shopping which was sweet of her!

Looking good in Manhattan 2007-06-06 11:18:42 I don’t know if I’ll ever undergo plastic surgery. Somehow the thought of going under the knife when I don’t need it, but purely for the sake of beauty, is terribly daunting. But if I were to go under the knife, I’d want it to be the knife in the hand of a good surgeon, not some quack in a hotel room. I’d always associated Los Angeles with plastic surgery. I think its all that Hollywood hype. So, when I read that you could get plastic surgery in Manhattan
too, I was intrigued. Maybe I could go for a nose job and fit in a shopping spree at the same time! heh…
Having aged parents 2007-06-05 11:22:25 A friend of mine is married to a Dallas native. He travels a lot for business and has an aged mother. She is busy looking after her twin sons and older son so with 3 boys she has her hands full. Recently, she called to tell me she might be moving back here for a while, as her husband has been posted here for his job. However, she was moaning about how his mother refused to relocate at that time of her life. His only sister was out in California so the only thing they could do was to consider nursing homes in Dallas where her friends are. Strangely enough, the old lady preferred that option. It gave her time to socialise with her friends which she enjoyed. At least she’s happy about it, rather than being bitter.
