Earthquake in China
2008-08-05 14:58:13
With only 3 days to go until the Olympics in China , a 6.0 earthquake rocked the country today, though not in Beijing, killing one and injuring 23 others. It gives new concerns about an Olympics that already has the world and the IOC on edge over pollution and political issues. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out in the end.

Don Rumsfeld, Ed Covey, Mount Misery, Abu Ghraib

Rumsfeld and a Mountain of Misery by Amy Goodman Frederick Douglass, the renowned abolitionist, began life as a slave on Maryland's Eastern Shore. When his owner had trouble with the young, unruly slave, Douglass was sent to Edward Covey, a notorious "slave breaker." Covey's plantation, where physical and psychological torture were standard, was called Mount Misery. Douglass eventually foug

The latest McCain ad...
2008-08-02 00:54:50
It wasn't bad enough that McCain released an ad that tried to compare Obama to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton (of which the Hilton family was very upset). Now on McCain's website there is a new ad up that is even stranger. McCain is apparently very nervous about Obama's popularity and the only way the campaign apparently sees to try to stop the tide is through character assassination. So m

McCain endured torture for this???
2008-07-31 23:05:50
I've changed my mind. Even though John McCain is not the right choice for our next president, I've always respected him for his willingness forty years ago to put himself in harm's way for me and our country. I still respect his daily acts of strength and courage in the face of brutal torture at hands of the North Vietnamese military. But sadly, his current disgusting and repulsive campaign rhe

Saturn moon has liquid on surface, NASA says

An interesting read: CNN Wrote:At least one of many large, lake-like features on Saturn 's moon Titan contains liquid hydrocarbons, making it the only body in the solar system besides Earth known to have liquid on its surface , NASA said Wednesday. Scientists positively identified the presence of ethane, according to a statement from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, which manages the

the McCain CamPAIN's latest malarkey
2008-07-31 04:52:17
"Malarkey" -- it's an Irish word I think, but it's the rough equivalent of "baloney", which is how the Obama campaign responded to the latest bit of simple-minded fluff that the McCain campaign seems to think will persuade the American voters to side with their man. I refer to the ad expressing the McCain camp's envy of Senator Obama's new-found superstar status abroad. Funny, McCain goaded Sena

Ex-Google team take on Web giant; Cuil opens!
2008-07-28 17:40:47
"Anna Patterson's last Internet search engine was so impressive that industry leader Google Inc. bought the technology in 2004 to upgrade its own system. She believes her latest invention is even more valuable -- only this time it's not for sale. Patterson instead intends to upstage Google, which she quit in 2006 to develop a more comprehensive and efficient way to scour the Internet. The end r

The FoxNews jackasses or Democrat Donkey?
2008-07-27 15:10:09
Party Symbolism: The symbol of the donkey was first used in reference to democratic candidate for president Andrew Jackson in 1828 -- His slogan was "Let the People Rule". Jackson picked up the symbol, and used it on his own campaign posters to represent his stubbornness, or what we would today call tenacity. Now, 180 years later, we're still fighting for the same cause. Contrast with the Fox

Passenger tries to open plane door mid-flight
2008-07-27 07:49:20
Funny yet disturbing article: Two drunken British women went on a rampage on a charter plane, hitting one flight attendant with a bottle of vodka and trying to open a cabin door as the aircraft was cruising over Austria at 10,000 meters (32,800 feet), police said Saturday. The staff on the flight from Greece to England eventually forced the women back to their seats and the pilot made an emerg

McCain accuses American public of Treason
2008-07-25 12:24:58
Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain (R-AZ) in recent comments said about democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), "He would rather lose a war and win a political campaign." In saying this he accuses Obama of the worst kind of treason, basically sacrificing the safety of American s for his own greedy political ambitions. In making this comment, however, he doesn'

CBS cuts out McCain gaffes
2008-07-25 11:35:21
Thinkprogress.org is reporting on the latest case where CBS news cut part of the interview, to take out the gaffe that he made. This time the gaffe is that McCain said that Iraq is the first major combat since 9/11. Apparently Afghanistan wasn't any combat. That will be news to the families of the soldiers that were killed or wounded there. And he says that press loves Obama more than him...

Will Obama's Middle East Trip help here?
2008-07-23 18:55:19
Obama has so far, by most reports, had a very successful trip to Europe and the Middle East where he met with the troops, General Petraeus, Iraq PM Maliki and more. But the question is will this make him seem more presidential as far as the election goes? Do you think seeing the footage of his trip will change anyone's mind that is on the fence?

It still comes back to 9/11
2008-07-22 12:26:49
The points being made here highlight something that has been bothering me for awhile. So Obama says we should concentrate on Afghanistan as presumably the place where the persons who are responsible for 9/11 are hiding/operating. The same intelligence that "justified" the Iraq invasion delivered us rather quickly the names of 19 who did 9/11. They were all Saudi. And off we go into Afghanistan

Maliki endorses Obama's Withdrawal timetable
2008-07-20 10:04:39
The republicans have been adamant about how bad Obama 's withdrawal plan is, saying that there should not be any sort of timetable and it should depend on conditions on the ground. But yesterday they were thrown for a loop when Maliki , head of Iraq, stated that he agreed with Obama's timetable of 16 months. Maliki is under enormous pressure to pin the US into stating a time table. Bush has even

The poll shows a tie between Obama and McCain
2008-08-21 11:08:48
I'm stuned by American's stupidity. In 2000, we chose not to vote for Gore, even though under Clinton and Gore's administration, the economy is like a miracle. In 2004, we chose to continue to vote for Bush, even though the economy is down to the toilet. We have no new energy, instead, we have a weakening dollar, worsening housing market, impending climate crisis. Bush is basically leading the

By 5 to 9 points by todays Zogby Poll. How? Behind all the griping about Bush, about the war, about the economy and the price of oil is a bag of crap that America holds. A nice warm bag of crap that after awhile begins to stink. Don't let them hold your nose. De-construct.
