Someone pass the disinfectant
2007-03-23 14:33:10
More from Rotowire, it seems that a virus has hit the Braves club house and no it’s not of the computer variety.  And I’m betting they wish it was just a computer bug.. Edgar Renteria, Matt Diaz, Ryan Langerhans, Chuck James and Blaine Boyer have all come down with a virus spreading throughout the Braves clubhouse. [...]

Quote of the Day: Crash would be proud..
2007-03-23 14:00:14
From the AJC, Heap talking about his deal and staying a Brave: “Atlanta is where I want to spend my whole career,” said McCann, a Duluth High graduate born in Athens. “I’m very happy. Now I just have to make sure I live up to the contract, and I plan to do that. “I don’t want to [...]

Stockman sent to Richmond
2007-03-23 06:45:03
Rotoworld.com reports: Braves optioned RHP Phil Stockman to Triple-A Richmond . A healthy Stockman would have been a candidate for the Atlanta pen, but he was slow to recover from January hamstring surgery. The hard-throwing right-hander could be of use later on. Not surprising in the least. If he pitches well enough in Richmond, I figure we [...]

Quote of the Day: Mazzone the Shrink..
2007-03-22 19:25:58
There’s a good article on Leo on Yahoo Sports, talking about his days as the Braves pitching coach and his move to coach with his childhood pal Sam Perlozzo. I’m almost done reading his book “Tales from the Mound”, it’s a pretty good read. Though I do have a couple problems with it, but [...]

More on Heaps deal..
2007-03-22 18:14:33
From the AJC: General manager John Schuerholz called the contract “historic and unprecedented” and noted that the Braves have never awarded a contract either as long as six years or to a player as young as McCann (23), who has less than two years of service time in the majors. It’s good to see the Braves [...]

Heap signs multi-year deal
2007-03-22 16:08:44
According to my MLB Text Alert. The Atlanta Braves and Catcher Brian McCann have agreed on a 6 year, 27.8 million dollar contract. That also includes a Team Option in 2013. Good to see we locked him up. Not to shabby at all.

Aybar likely to start season on the DL
2007-03-22 15:28:17
This does not bode well for utility guy Willie Aybar. First you arrive to camp late, due to visa problems. Then you injure your wrist, after only seeing 9 spring training at-bats. According to the AJC, Willie isn’t winning over many in the Braves FO or coaching staff. There is growing frustration in the organization over Aybar’s [...]

Braves Primer ‘07: Part 1
2007-03-22 02:16:27
Welcome to Part 1 of a running 2007 season preview for the Atlanta Braves . This is where I’m going to look at things that need to happen for the Braves to not repeat the 2006 season and what needs to take place in order for the Braves to return to form at the top of [...]

It’s weird..
2007-03-22 01:22:59
I’ve got to confess, watching the Braves/Nats on MLB.tv and I’m getting the Nats feed. Its a bit strange listening to Don Sutton do a broadcast and it not being a Braves broadcast. I really liked Sutton in the Braves TV booth. It’s going to be weird without him. EDIT: Equally as weird was seeing Soriano getting [...]

Quote of the Day: Heap = Good
2007-03-21 14:54:49
We all know what kind of year Brian McCann had last year, only thing that over shadowed what he was doing, was Joe Mauer. And that’s not a bad thing, McCann and Mauer are two of the best if not the best young catchers in the game today. That’s how we get todays quote of the [...]

The King gets the nod
2007-03-24 18:23:54
Not that this really should be any surprise to any Mariners fan. But Grover had declared that King Felix will in fact take the hill on Opening Day. “He told me, ‘Good outing,’ and I said, ‘Thank you,’” Hernandez said. “Then he told me, ‘Do that on Opening Day.’” [Snip]“For me, it’s one of the [...]

Braves Deal Tony Pena Jr
2007-03-23 21:48:07
On my way back to the office from going out and getting lunch, my MLB Text Alert goes off. The Braves have traded SS Tony Pena Jr to the Kansas City Royals for RHP Erik Cordier. I don’t know much about Cordier. But I’m sure there will be more on this trade, forth coming. EDIT: Here’s the official [...]

Putz is “good to go”
2007-03-25 21:40:47
John Hickey over at the Seattle P-I is reporting that Putz is good to go, and threw a side session, going full bore. ”I let it go today with everything I have,” Putz said after his throwing session. ”It felt great.” Good, now lets hope he stays this way. Not only do [...]

2 More cuts for the Braves
2007-03-25 19:09:52
According to Bobby Cox this morning on the Braves broadcast. TJ Bohn and Blain Boyer have been optioned to Triple A Richmond. 37 men will go north to Atlanta next weekend for the final spring games, against the ChiSox. So after Saturday, the Braves will trim off 12 guys to get to the 25 man [...]

Quote of the Day: Huddy has a point
2007-03-25 18:59:03
Here’s Tim Hudson talking about his first two years in Atlanta. “I feel like they [Braves] have gotten a little short-changed the last two years,” said Hudson, always honest in his self-appraisals. I’d have to say Amen to that. Huddy has been just a shadow of a the pitcher, who was feared in the American League [...]

Hampton Watch 2007: Cox sets time table
2007-03-25 06:35:56
With all that’s gone down with Mike Hampton , things to a point are starting to look up. Of course we all know that he went down with an Oblique strain, prompting the signing of Mark Redman, a guy who showed up to camp and promptly pitched 3 strong innings the place of Hampton against the [...]

Interesting April
2007-03-27 05:47:03
I was just looking the Braves Schedule in April : Divisional Games: 20 Non-Divisional Games: 6 So out of the first 26 games, 20 of them are against Division Rivals. April could be a very telling month, seeings that most of the games are against our own division. This would work to the Braves advantage or it could work [...]

Redmans contract purchased..
2007-03-27 05:39:58
According to Rotoworld, Mark Redman’s contract has been purchased from AAA Richmond. Which means he’s made the Braves roster (like we didn’t think that was going to happen). He now gets a 1 year $750,000 contract.

Cormier Update
2007-03-26 20:06:35
Word from Pete during the Broadcast, is that Lance’s shoulder tightened up and that’s why he left the game. At least that’s the word at the moment.

Cormier injured
2007-03-26 19:34:37
Lance Cormier just game out of todays game vs the Astros, holding his right arm. As soon as I hear more, I’ll update. But as it sits right now Lance Cormier has been injured , something to do with his pitching arm. This was his last start of the spring, and pretty much had the 5th spot in [...]

Quote of the Day: Chipper has a point
2007-03-26 16:00:43
Here’s Chippers reply to Phillie’s Shortstop Jimmy Rollins talkn’ smack. “That’s the difference in the mentality in Atlanta and the mentality in Philadelphia,” Chipper Jones, the Braves’ leader, said when asked about Rollins’s remark. “We would have never disrespected the rest of the division by proclaiming ourselves division champs before the beginning of the season. The [...]

Rivera out, Burke in.
2007-03-28 18:42:37
This honestly is pretty big news, as Rene Rivera has been sent packing. It seems that Jamie Burk (a Roseburg native. viva la Oregon!) has won the job as Kenji Johjimas back up when the team breaks camp and heads back to the PNW. Here’s what Geoff Baker is reporting: The first big move of camp has yet [...]

Stuff + More Stuff
2007-03-28 07:50:13
Added a new category to the side bar “Sponsored Players”. You may or may not know but on sites like Baseball Reference, The Baseball Cube and Minor League Splits you can sponsor players for a certain amount of money. I used to have Salty on The Baseball Cube, but my year lapsed and now he’s up [...]

Quote of the Day: Toothy
2007-03-28 05:35:36
Matt Diaz commenting on the fact Bobby Cox was the one that found his broken tooth. A tooth that Chris Woodward had broken around the batting cage. “I told Bobby, last year he saved my career,” Diaz said, “and this year he saved my smile.” That my friends is pure cheese…

2007-03-28 03:15:35
According to the Braves portal of Propaganda, 1995 World Series Hero David Justice will be inducted into the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame. David Justice, best remembered for his decisive homer in the 1995 World Series, will be this year’s inductee to the Braves Hall of Fame. Justice will be honored at the ninth [...]

Diaz almost sold?
2007-03-27 22:54:42
Here’s an interesting tid-bit from the AJC (scroll down): The Braves nearly sold Diaz to a Japanese team during the winter, but the deal fell through. What the? I know it’s a minor thing now, because he will more than likely see platoon time in Left Field. But why on earth would the Braves sell Diaz [...]

Quote of the Day: Jimmy likes us!
2007-03-29 22:55:34
It seems that Jim Leyland has a man crush on the Braves. “They look really good,” said Leyland, who will face the Braves in a June 22-24 interleague series at Turner Field. “They look to me like they’ve got a hell of a team. They improved their pitching. “They’re going to be back right in the thick [...]
