Make Your Firefox Much Faster 2007-03-18 15:58:11 Here’s a little tweak by which you could speed up your firefox. It worked for me, may be it will work for you guys too. Just follow the steps below and you are ready to surf the web faster with Firefox

1) Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2) Alter the entries as follows: (by double clicking them)
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once. (I changed mine to 100, works great.)

While chatting, he asked me how he could import all of his MSN/WLM contacts from address to the other. I was surprised by his question!
Well, I have seen many people having problems when changing their MSN/WLM address. The main problem is that when they change their address they don’t know how to import their contact list :P. Below, I have explained the easiest way to import your contact list from MSN/WLM Messenger.
To import, simply go to Contacts
in your MSN/WLM Messenger and select Save instant messaging contact. Save it anywhere in your PC, and then sign-in with the address you want the contacts to be exported to. After signing in, again go to Contacts and this time select Import instant messaging contacts.
That’s it! All you contacts are safely imported into your new address.

A Hole in Notepad 2007-03-23 18:05:20 Now, this is something cool… Over at WinCustomize, someone thought they’d found an Easter Egg in the Windows Notepad
application. :p But he infact found something weird in it.
It works like this:
1. Open Notepad
2. Type the text “this app can break” (without quotes)
3. Save the file
4. Re-open the file in Notepad.
Notepad displays seemingly-random Chinese characters, or boxes if your default Notepad font doesn’t support those characters.
It’s not an Easter egg (even though it seems like a funny one), and as it turns out, Notepad writes the file correctly. It’s only when Notepad reads the file back in that it seems to lose its mind.
But we can’t even blame Notepad: it’s a limitation of Windows itself, specifically the Windows function that Notepad uses to figure out if a text file is Unicode or not.

How To Make Invisible Folders 2007-03-31 19:48:31 Many of you must have ever felt the need to hide some files. This little tutorial will help you in making perfect invisible folders, without using any application. So simply follow the steps below and you’ll have your invisible folder in no time.
First of all, create a new folder anywhere in your hard disk. Then while renaming it from “New Folder” to something else, hold down the “Alt” key and press 0160 (from numpad). This will create an empty space in the text box. Now right-click the folder and select “Properties”, then go to “Customize”, and open “Change Icon”. From there scroll further and you’ll see three empty images (icons) in the middle of the list. Select one of them, and click “OK”. Again click “OK” in the “Properties” window. You’ll see your folder invisible, with no name or any icon.

IP Command Lines 2007-03-30 11:26:25 A few days back, my Internet connection was giving me a lot of problems. For some reason it wasn’t opening this site, when it was able to open all the rest of the sites of the world :S. Then I came accross this site WhatIsMyIP. On this site I found some command lines to re-register my DNS connections. I used them and to my surprise, everything started working back :). Icon’s Story 2007-04-07 18:27:31 Last night while searching for some new blogs to read, I came across Six Degrees of Inspiration. There I found a topic named “Windows Icon War.” I read that and found this link. It will show you an interesting flash video of icons fighting on someone’s desktop.
