Great Make-up: Kareena Kapoor
2007-07-24 23:44:00
It's been a while since I've done a breakdown of a celebrity's make-up so I thought I'd bring you a breakdown of Kareena Kapoor 's make-up. Her make-up palette is very cool toned and compliments the undertones of her skin very well.Prep:Start off this look with a moisturizer and eye cream according to your skin's needs. While this picture has been airbrushed (like pretty much all other pictures), her skin looks flawless. Prepping your skin always helps in applying foundation and concealor better.Face:For this look, try a creamy, matte, medium-coverage foundation evenly all over the face and blend into the neck. For this look, you want to have a foundation that matches your skin perfectly. I know this is important always, but Kareena's make-up looks good because her foundation is seemingly perfectly blended and matched.Eyes:The colours used in this look are bright and adding a primer to your eyelids will help those colours be as vibrant as possible.Brows:The eyebrows help enhance

Peppermint Bath Oil
2007-07-24 00:39:00
The website is taking too long and it's turning out to be such a pain, so figured I'd just route my blog to my domain. This will be done shortly. I am just going to bring you the information I had on the website over here. Makes life simpler. So while I keep you waiting just another 16 hours or so until I bring you more information, enjoy this bath oil recipe.I have tried this bath oil a few times and I really liked it. The genius wasn't me but it was Suparna Trikha's Book of Natural Skin Care. As I've stated before, she has some great tips and natural recipes. Ingredients: 4 tsp peppermint oil the juice of 2 lemons. I used to either squeeze fresh lemons or the bottles with pre-squeezed lemon juice. 4 tsp almond oil 4 tsp geranium oil 2 tsp camphor Method: Just mix the ingredients together and add 1 tsp to your bath. image source: www.mintindia.com

The Awesomeness That Is Clint Fernandes Replied With Suggestions
2007-07-27 11:28:00
I regularly look at the online portfolios of make-up artists for inspiration and guidance. It's the make-up equivalent of going to the top of a hill in a storm, raising a lightning rod with your bare hands, and then finally being struck by lightning. One of the Indian make-up artists whose work is great to get ideas and make-up inspiration from is Clint Fernandes , whose online portfolio you can view here.Shilpa was so sweet as to post links to his tutorials at www.indiwo.com and I figured what the hey, why not contact him. So I send him an email and didn't really expect much of it. I think it is Santa who ruined my psyche and made me this pessimistic (I used to write to him regularly and refused to believe he wasn't real, but that's another story altogether). Much to my surprise, I found a reply from Clint Fernandes in my inbox this morning. How awesome is that? Much better than Santa (seriously, all those handwritten letters, not a single reply). So here are my questions and Clint

Dear Malaika Arora: Do You Not Hea Those Poor Souls Wailing?
2007-07-31 01:27:00
I know you very sweet (I’m being genuine here, when I stat talking about the pic my fangs will be on display) ladies have disagreed with me in the past over my choice of lowlights. However, for the sake of fashion and deskank-ification, I need you full moral support. Agreed, this blog concentrates on beauty and make-up issues but that thing, that poor cloth, that Malaika Arora has draped over her is calling to me. I can hear the collective wails of ever single fiber that constitutes the cloth as they perish. This pic was taken at the Blueberry mobile event on July 25, 2007. This is a bad pic but rest assured it is indeed her. I wanted you to see what she was wearing, let's try not to laugh here, in its entirity. I read a book once where a witch made a tapestry out of the souls of her victims. The grapevine tells me Malaika did the something along the same lines. I believe Malaika went through a perilous journey, first by killing every brain cell that told her not to wear this ever

A Great Palette for a Lot of Skin Tones
2007-08-04 22:23:00
I think we have already established that I love make-up. Love as in "I want to marry it" kind of love. Which is a fine, healthy thing for a woman to experience in her life. So I have a wide range of make-up looks that I love and as much as I love perfect neutrals, I also have a strong passion for colourful, bold hues. I am ashamed to admit that I once had the following conversation with someone, whom we shall call Ms. X (sounds mysterious doesn't it?), who remarked on my love for colour.Me: Hello!Ms. X: Oh my! *crosses self* Child... You have the devil in you. The devil!Me: I uh... Hello?Ms. X: You have them crazy eyes. Just look at you! Your eyes. They're looking at me all funny.Me: Are you... Referring to my eyeshadow maybe?Ms. X: Ah! Don't look at me. Sit there, I'll be right back with some holy water-I mean Evian. Stay!Me: I have facial wipes if that helps.Alright so I kid (slightly), but once in a while, I find a great product that works for a broad range of skin tones (for th

InStyle Excerpt: How to Get Aishwarya's Waves
2007-08-06 23:30:00
I was browsing around (while I should have been studying really) when I came across this scan of Aishwarya in InStyle magazine.I haven't tried to do this myself, but hey it should prove interesting.I just realized the picture's too small to actually read what was written, so here's what it says. How to Style it:Create a deep side part and comb a thickening spray (like Bumble and Bumble's) through damp hair to provide curl-retaining texture.Rub a dollop of leave-in conditioner (such as Neutrogena's Silk Touch) over ends. After blow-drying hair smooth, curl one-and-a-half inch sections with a medium barrel curling iron (one option: Jilbere de Paris Ceramic Tools Nano Tech), wrapping each section downward toward the neck. When the curls cool, brush out to create a solid wave, then mist with medium hold hairspray (try Sebastian Shaper)image taken from www.aishwarya-forever.com

Bear With Me And All My Nonsensical Experimenting

I'm trying out a new template (this is not it) and will have it up in a bit. This is my "i'll put something better up in a few days" template. Yeah, I'm really computer savvy by the way. Can't figure out which is the monitor and which is the keyboard.

My Newest Nail Polish Love: Elizabeth Arden Catalina Pink Shimmer
2007-08-12 13:34:00
I was at Ulta a while back and they had a fabulous Elizabeth Arden nail polish sale and they also had a coupon. So me being the nail polish fanatic bought a few of them (I somehow refuse to pay full retail for nail polish, but more on that later). I wanted a white nail polish but didn't want it to be too harsh on me and Elizabeth Arden's Catalina Pink Shimmer is perfect. I would say it's a semi sheer pearly white that you can layer for more intensity. Best thing is that I've worn it for 5 days now without chipping.I took this pic in natural light without flash and it's very true to colour. It's such a pretty off-white colour that I can't stop looking at it.

Great Make-up: Yasmeen Ghauri
2007-08-11 22:28:00
I have always loved Yasmeen Ghauri (always). I was so happy to come across a breakdown of her make-up. It's such a vampy look but still understated. The products mentioned aren't available anymore, but I have a couple of suggestions:Instead of Estee Lauder's Rose Tutu blush, Milani Mango Tango dusted on very lightly. I know this is discontinued but you might still be able to find it. Another suggestion is Nars Turkish Red.Instead of Estee Lauder's Silent Red lipstick, Bobbi Brown Chocolate Cherry rouge pot.Instead of Estee Lauder's Gala eyeshadow duo, try Nars Blondie or Bali for a medium, matte taupe. As a highlighter colour you could try any creamy beige.Face:Prep skin with the moisturizer and eye cream of your choice. Let it sink if for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Apply a medium, satin finish foundation. Don't forgot to blend into the neck. Apply concealor where needed, making sure to blend the concealor into the foundation. Apply translucent powder to set the base.Eyes:As

Diagram: Placement of the Blush When Contouring
2007-08-11 20:24:00
For the tutorial below, I made a diagram to show the are you want to blend the blush out to.The area within the triangle is where you would ideally like to keep within the triangle. Blend the blush outwards from the initial blush application to the edges of the triangle. Make sure that there are no harsh lines.

Easy Way to Get Intant Cheekbones
2007-08-11 18:34:00
There are a various ways to contour cheekbones into existence and I have different preferences depending on my mood. I wanted to post one before but the pics were beyond crap and I didn't like the tutorial in general. So I'm bringing you a new and slightly different version. Also, I know there are many out there whose skin hates cream blush so I'll bring you one soon with a bronzer/powder blush. What I used:Cream blush. I used Bobbi Brown's Chocolate Cherry Rouge Pot. Any blush on the darker side will do.Step 1:Start of with clean moisturized skin. I prefer not to scrub my face before doing this because it can get red which spoils the effect. If you want you can do your foundation now, however I skipped the step (yes, I'm lazy).Step 2:Suck in the cheeks and make the classic and highly elegant "fish face" This way you can see where the cheekbones end. The shadows that show up are the edge of the cheekbone.Step 3:I added this step to clarify where I'm going to put my blush. I am goi

I have a fresh order placed for some mineral make-up and one of their brushes that I'm really excited about. I hope the colours live up to my expectations.Anyhoo, with those colours I was thinking of doing a couple of tutorials. Let me know how you feel about that. Also I wanted to post some reviews on make-up but since for the past couple of weeks I could pass off as the dead come alive because of work and school, I will add the reviews this weekend.I'm also so sorry I haven't replied to your comments. Will do so this weekend. Hopefully things will die down tomorrow.

When Make-up Artists Attack: Mickey Contractor vs. Preity Zinta
2007-08-15 00:49:00
So I was browsing around last night for divine inspiration (that's how I write my posts, this isn't your ordinary blog you know) and an interview with Mickey Contractor in The Hindu caught my eye. In that article, he seems to at one point be hissing and bearing his claws. Not in an outright nasty way, but it's definitely more than a backhanded compliment (you know, when people go "oh! you look so much better now that you've put on weight and your cheeks are so chubby and round. so cute.") The article states:"In his years of experience, which was the one face for which he needed the least effort? 'Raveena Tandon. She has perfect features. ' And the most difficult? 'Preity Zinta . It was so tough to make her look like a girl! And you can quote me on that." He laughs . . ."Ouch! I'm not sure exactly why he said what he did, but there wasn't really a build up to this quote. No it fits in the interview just as you read it. Poor Preity Zinta. A make-up artist stating that their clie

The Power of Anna Sui's Mascara (Seriously, This Could Be A Good Thing)
2007-08-21 08:29:00
So many companies use false lashes and digitally enhance their mascara ads. I always used to fall for the Lash Architect ads from L'oreal. One girl I knew in high school believed the hype of lash advertising so much she never took off her mascara. She would pile on the mascara every day to make lashes look like in the ads (direct source here, she told me this). She did this for about 3 months (again, I am willing to use an unsanitized lipstick tester at the MAC counter of your choice to prove I'm not exaggerating), and when she one day removed the mascara, her lashes fell out. Point of the story? Don't believe the mascara ads. Except maybe the Anna Sui mascara in question.I came across a post about this blog entry on makeupalley (thanks cuddlybear) and I had to post about it. The girl who writes the blog tried to test out Anna Sui's apparently highly potent mascara. She applied 6 to 7 coats. I'm not even going to elaborate, you ladies need to check this out yourselves. All I know i

Just a Little PSA before I Sleep: Vincent Longo Is On Clearance at Ulta

In Medieval times, I would probably be pelted with garlic for being such a night owl masquerading as a vampire. I am only now going to sleep. Before hitting the sack (I will have more reviews out tomorrow by the way), I decided to do my part in bringing lipstick to the beauty arsenals of all. Ulta is having a clearance sale on all Vincent Longo items. I went by today and most of the items were marked at 50%. Some Ultas even have the make-up at 75% off. A Huge Disappointment: Lumiere Eyeshadows
2007-08-21 00:47:00
I got the Lumiere eyeshadows in the mail today and I was so excited. I had ordered the Lumiere buffer brush and three sample eyeshadows. I even had a code, LOUIE (the code still works by the way), that I typed in to get 20% off my entire order. So in effect, I paid a little more than $2 for 3 sample shadows in little jars.Let's just start off by saying that in my world, all make-up is created equal, with none being more equal than the other. I don't care about the packaging, brand, etc. I just want good make-up. And I thought these Lumiere shadows would be amazing. I had a happy little tale planned out of how I would find my samples in the mail, try them out, be overwhelmed by the fantabulousness (I need a superlative here) of the shadows, and rave about it to all of you. Someone up there in the heavens made me dream this up just to shoot it down. Sick sense of humour they have by the way.The eyeshadows I had ordered are Graphite, Deep Waters, and Pink Satin. Very Easy Blue Smokey Eye
2007-08-21 21:16:00
I know I'm stuck on the smokey eye thing of late, so I'll do a bright coloured or neutral tutorial next time. However, I got the Lumiere eyeshadow to finally work for me and I had to show off the blue shadow. In my opinion, this is a fairly easy smokey eye that's just a tad different because of the lining on the lower rim. Pardon the eyebrows, I need to get them done with weekend.Again, pardon the simplicity of the tutorial as I'm still enjoying my vacation. I hope you like the tutorial. What I used:Urban Decay Primer Potion. This is my absolute favourite primer and with a combination of other things, it helped the Lumiere loose shadows to stick. Latest Find: Flirt! Bronze Kissed
2007-08-27 23:54:00
I recently went make-up hunting and found out that Flirt has some great blushes. I got a set on sale there about 2 years ago and dismissed it because, well, the colours simply did not suit me. My narrow mindedness came back to haunt my make-up obsessed mind and I decided to go and give the line another try. I have to say that I'm very impressed with the line. The make-up doesn't have any fragrance, their make-up is of excellent quality, and it lasts on me at least as long a MAC does. One thing I like about Flit! is that it goes on sale and I can use any discount coupon valid in Kohl's on the make-up. Also, Flirt! has some great, inexpensive dupes of NARS and MAC. Glamourazzi is a dead-ringer for MAC Trax. I also find that Flirt!'s Heartthrob is the best dupe I have found of NARS's infamous "O." Weirdly enough, while the cult favourite NARS blush didn't how up on me and ended up looking like I had dipped my head in a bucket of glitter, Flirt!'s counterpart was much more flatterin
