OpenGL And Linux users You Should Avoid The Ati Xpress200 And Xpress1100
2007-03-17 21:07:00
OpenGL and Linux users you should avoid the chip xpress200 and xpress1100. I have a xpress1100 on my laptop, and I had disappointment to note that this chip does not manage or very little the OpenGL, the consequences?Under Windows the games or the applications that are using OpenGL's 3D functions are performing very badly or not at all, and under Linux you do not have the 3D desktop nor the majority of the 3D applications. This problem with the xpress200 was to be fixed by the xpress1100 but these two chips use the graphics processor unit X300se which is a X300 cut down by ATI(half pipe and bandwidth, very reduced memory) which on paper is ½ to 1/3 slower than the X300 of origin another problem is that X300 in fact is already not an excellent graphics processor unit, finally the true is that the problem really does not come from the graphics processor unit, the fact is that ATI officially does not support the opengl function of this chip. These chips at low prices equip each days

Life Without High Speed
2007-03-20 02:11:00
Was it just a few short years ago that life on the internet began to take on a life of its own?Was it just a few short years ago that I thought that a 2GB hard drive would be all I'd ever need?Well, in terms of the internet, it probably seems like a long time, but in actual fact, I purchased my computer in 1997, just 10 years ago.I thought I had all the bells and whistles, I was pretty proud of my new machine. I logged online and learned how to surf and how to chat and how to do internet marketing.Flash forward ten years and I am still surfing and still doing internet marketing, but I have encountered a problem, which is beginning to be a major problem for me and many others like me. I HAVE DIAL-UP!Everyone seems to be going to video and audio streaming, which leaves me sitting like a dork at my computer wondering what is going to happen and when. I get stuttering voices and pictures on hold and I wait 20 minutes for a video to load which then takes about 60 seconds when it finally

Microsoft ships 20 million copies of Vista
2007-03-28 15:32:00
Microsoft has shipped more than 20 million copies worldwide of Vista , its new operating system (OS), within a month of its release. This outnumbers the market sales of Vista’s predecessor, XP, which had three million less sales over twice the length of time. The total number of Vista copies shipped includes the full-packaged product sold to retailers, upgrades and, of course, the OS comes standard with many new PCs and laptops.Microsoft claims that the high Vista sales “reflect the broad interest in the security and usability enhancements” of this new OS.Copies of Vista packaged automatically, however, with new hardware from companies such as HP and Dell count for a sizeable section of the overall number shipped. When Windows XP was released in 2001 only 17 million copies were sold worldwide over a two-month period. According to the Central Statistics Office, however, the number of households in Ireland in 2000 with a computer was 32.5pc.This is in comparison to 55pc of homes ow

Offline update of SP2 for Windows Server 2003
2007-03-28 15:28:00
The script packet Offline Update downloads all security updates for Windows 2000, XP, or Server 2003 from Microsoft's servers in one go and creates perfectly up-to-date patch CDs and DVDs as ISO images. These data carriers can then be used to update as many Windows PCs as necessary without having to download the updates each time from the Internet.Version 3.04 includes Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2003; in addition, a few details have been improved. The update script automatically installs the correct version of the Windows Update Agent, which then determines which patches are missing on the target PC. The script collection is licensed under the GPL open-source license and naturally does not contain any code that violates the rights of third parties. The script downloads Microsoft's update catalogue wsusscn2.cab, where it gleans the latest download URLs. Recently, Microsoft threatened to take legal action against some providers of so-called update packs that were being offer

Repairing Windows Driver Problems
2007-03-27 15:24:00
I came across this interesting article on yahoo tech blogReader Dave writes: My PC will not go into "Standby" nor "Hibernation." When it's initiated, I get the following message: "The device driver for the keyboard is preventing the machine from entering hibernation/standby. You may need to update this driver." This message just started to appear about a month ago. Up to then, I had no problems and my keyboard works fine. I talked with the PC builder and their response is that there are no drivers needed nor installed for the keyboard. What should I do?While few keyboards require drivers from the vendor, almost everything has a driver in some form as part of Windows . These can become corrupted or out of date as Windows Updates are applied, so problems like this are not uncommon: Not just with keyboards but with almost any peripheral, especially optical drives and just about any USB device. Here's what to do to fix it when problems like this creep up.First, make sure there isn't act

Woes Worsen For Windows Vista
2007-04-05 08:26:00
When Microsoft launched the consumer versions of its Windows Vista operating system in January, it tried to drum up interest with one of the most expensive marketing campaigns in history (www.playfuls.com)."The Wow Begins Now" was the campaign's tagline, aimed at convincing people that it was worth upgrading to the expensive and long-delayed new operating system. But two months after the launch, Windows Vista is proving such a disappointment to many users that a new version of the catchphrase is making the circuits in internet forums and blogs: "The woes begin now."The latest blow to the Vista's prestige came in a new lawsuit made public this week by a woman who claimed that Microsoft's marketing campaign deliberately duped customers into buying computers that weren't even capable of running Vista's most prominent features.Lawyers for personal computer buyer Diane Kelley are seeking class action for the lawsuit which centres on efforts by Microsoft and computer makers to avoid a lu

A Russian cosmonaut hosting American billionaire Charles Simonyi aboard theInternational Space Station said in a television interview Wednesday that Simonyi told him that Microsoft chairman Gates .htm">Bill Gates is planning a space flight (Yahoo News).During a live interview on Russian state television, cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin revealed that, "Charles said that Bill Gates is also preparing to visit space," according to reports of the interview emanating from Moscow. Simonyi is a former Microsoft engineer. He paid $25 million to a U.S.-based company called Space Adventures to arrange his trip to the space station aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket. Gates, the world's richest man with an estimated net worth of $25 billion, could presumably afford the ticket. But unlike fellow billionaires such as Virgin's Richard Branson -- a hot air balloon enthusiast -- Gates to date has shown little inclination for high-risk endeavors. Microsoft officials were not immediately available for comment. Space Adventu

Microsoft, Google trade barbs on enterprise search
2007-04-12 14:54:00
Officials of Microsoft and Google traded comparisons of their enterprise search products to their rival's during a technology conference in San Francisco Wednesday. To underscore that it was all in fun, Nitin Mangtani, lead product manager for Google's search appliance business, feigned throwing a punch at Jared Spataro, group product manager for Microsoft's enterprise search, as they shared a stage at the Gilbane Conference on enterprise technology issues (Yahoo News). Like Web surfers searching the Internet, enterprises need search engines for their own IT networks for finding important files, digital presentations, databases, and other internal information. Microsoft's Spataro said Google may be the leader in the consumer Internet search market, but that doesn't necessarily translate into success in the enterprise market where more sophisticated functionality is needed. He outlined three general markets for enterprise search including entry-level commodity search functions whe

Hackers Attacking New Microsoft Zero-Day Bug
2007-04-14 07:39:00
A zero-day vulnerability in several of Microsoft 's server products could enable a hacker to divert the Web traffic of not just a single user but of a company's entire roster of employees, the company warned this week (Yahoo News).Microsoft released an advisory late Thursday warning users that it is investigating a "limited" number of attacks that are exploiting a vulnerability in the Domain Name System (DNS) Server Service. The bug could affect servers running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4, Windows Server 2003 SP 1, and Windows Server 2003 SP 2.The advisory states that Windows Vista, along with Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP 4 and Windows XP SP 2, do not contain the flawed code, and so they are not affected.

Microsoft and lawyers for the consumers didn't disclose terms of the accord, first announced during trial in February. If given final approval, the deal will resolve one of the last remaining private antitrust cases filed against Microsoft. Window Gates - A Glance At New York's Windows And Gates
2007-05-09 19:35:00
As a young man I lived all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. I stayed three years in a brownstone in Cobble Hill, four years on the Upper West Side, and 15 in a SoHo loft. Even after moving away I came back to work in the city for six summers, sharing apartments in midtown, the West Village, and Tribeca. In every neighborhood, I spent a lot of time walking and cycling the streets and enjoying the city's people, stores and restaurants, and most of all, its amazing buildings. Now that I spend most of my time in the country, I miss one feature of New York buildings that just doesn't show up in most other places – window gates. They decorate brownstones, surround air conditioners, keep children from falling out of highrises and, softened by bright red geraniums and draping green ivy, protect tens of thousands of New Yorkers from break-ins and burglaries. They even add a certain elegance to the glazed-white-brick apartment houses that everyone loves to hate in east midtown. They didn't always

Autumn treat: Microsoft lifts veil off Halo 3
2007-05-12 13:37:00
Microsoft Corp. gave a sneak peek at its "Halo 3" game on Friday, saying the next chapter of the fast-paced shooter trilogy will help it fend off competition from Sony Corp. and Nintendo Co. Ltd. Gamers at the invitation-only preview gave mixed reviews. "The graphics can use some work ... They're not much different than the previous Halo," said Nicholas Puleo, editor of gaming news Web site Evilavatar.com. "They've got five, six months until release, so they'll add some polish ... When I compare it to other things in the platform, it's not standout." Microsoft held previews in New York and San Francisco on Friday in advance of the public test, or "beta," of the game, which goes live next Wednesday. A public beta is unusual for a console game, and the one for the flagship title for Microsoft's Xbox 360 is being closely watched by gamers eager to know how it looks and plays, and whether it will live up to the considerable buzz. "I definitely believe

Microsoft says working to broaden Xbox appeal
2007-05-12 13:36:00
It's the first public unveiling of Microsoft Corp.'s alien-blasting action game "Halo 3", but Shane Kim is already looking ahead to a kinder, gentler face for its Xbox 360 console. The head of Microsoft Game Studios said on Friday that his division is working on two previously unannounced games aimed beyond the hardcore fans who relish the shooting, driving and sports games that make up the bulk of popular Xbox titles. The idea is to make the Xbox 360 more attractive to casual gamers, who have flocked to Nintendo Co. Ltd.'s Wii console and its innovative motion-sensing controller. "We have a couple games that have not been announced," Kim told Reuters at a preview event in San Francisco for "Halo 3", the next installment in Microsoft's flagship franchise. "I will tell you that they target a broader market. We think it's very important this holiday, and to winning this generation, to expand beyond our core audience," Kim said. Microsoft has had mixed success in the casual area. Las
