Local Hero 2007-03-22 08:49:00 England have lost the Ashes to Australia and are now in the West Indies playing for the world cup. Did you all know that a local lad was the captain of the England cricket team that started the Ashes? The year was 1882 and Albert Neilson Hornby led out the England team at the Oval. During the game , one spectator droped dead and another had "gnawed out pieces of his umbrella." As one English batsman walked out to the wicket, it was noted that his lips were ashen grey. After the game The Sporting Times published the famous obituary notice. In Affectionate Remembrance of English cricket, Which died at the Oval on 29th August 1882, Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances.R.I.P.N.B. - The body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia.Following this Game and obituary notice, England and Australia have played for the 'Ashes' ever since.England cricket captain Albert Neilson Hornby, also known as Monkey Hornby, died on December 17th 1925 and his grave Read more:Local
A bit about me 2007-03-21 09:30:00 My name is Pete.I have lived in Crewe all my life and was born in the 60's. In those days many babies in the area were born at home. I was born in Claughton avenue, which is just up the road from Crewe Alexandra football club. Soon after my birth we moved to Wistaston green where I still live today.I attended Wistaston Green Infants and junior school, and went to Shavington. Untill the 1970's the part of Wistaston green that I lived fell under Nantwich council, this ment that my nearest school was Shavington instead of Bedford St, which is the school most of my friends went to.After I left school I joined Rolls-Royce as an apprentice. The company has now become Bentley motors, and this is where I am still working today.I hope this brief post about me Did not send you to sleep. If you have any comments about my brief history of my early days in Crewe, leave a message.RegardsPete.

The cost for adults £4The cost for the kids £2I took a couple of pictures and posted them for you to enjoy. Read more:Afternoon

On Road Parking 2008-01-05 13:30:00 What is going on with the car parking on our roads around Crewe? Take Wistaston road leading towards Flag lane for example, the stretch between Stewart St and the Hop Pole pub. All along one side of the road are cars parked bumper to bumper. This leaves the other side left for traffic travelling both ways.Cars creep along afraid that wing mirrors will get clipped or even worse, collisions with other vehicles. I reckon that these roads should be either double yellow lines along the full length of the road or they are made one way. What do you think? Are our roads to narrow with cars parked along them or do you think it's not a problem.Let me know.RegardsPete Read more:Parking

Crewe Alexandra new player 2008-10-05 09:42:00 I am not going to start describing the football game that Crewe
and Northampton played recently, but a quick few words on their new loan player
. The new owner of the number 31 shirt is Denis Lawrence. At a height of 6ft 7" his is one of the tallest players in the football league. He has a rather skinny look to him, a little like Peter Crouch the Portsmouth striker. I just hope that over the next 3 Read more:Alexandra

My meal at Crewe Hall 2008-10-04 04:10:00 As My wife and I turned left into the long drive towards the hall itself we had our first look at our venue. I slowed down my car to a crawl as I took in the breathtaking scene. On each side of the drive the trees were dressed with miniature lights that glistened like clusters of stars. The immense hall dominated the scene as we arrived.Inside was even more spectacular. We were surrounded by dark Read more:Crewe
