Stones on the way
2008-07-17 09:48:19
So I’ve just started out on this big, scary path which is losing weight and I have had my first set back.  Because I have a micro cut on my meniscus it’s hard for me to walk, not that I can’t walk at all, but when you exercise you have to walk at a faster [...]

Exercise: myths and truths (according to my experience)
2008-07-15 21:41:56
It’s common sense that anyone who wants to be successful in a weight loss program needs to exercise, no question about it. What I take issue with is those DVD workouts or TV shows where  instructors talk about  “that adrenaline rush” or even worse, are doing exercise with smiles on their faces like it’s the ultimate [...]

Enemy or Ally
2008-07-15 21:37:01
For sure the scale is one of the worst enemies of most overweight people.  I have a scale that goes up to 330 lbs (150 kg).  When I bought it, I weighed  around 320 - 330 lbs (145 - 150 kg).   Then for months I didn’t want to step on it because I knew that [...]

The biggest fear
2008-07-13 20:24:38
I’ve been thinking about creating this blog for a long time and I  finally  decided to put it up on the web today.  I‘m not sure why it took me so long to post, but one of the reasons could be the risk of failing.  After all the time I’ve spent learning about website promotion,  [...]

There’s something missing
2008-08-02 10:25:59
Image courtesy of SXC Usually when someone starts talking about losing weight, they focus on plans to eat properly and exercise.  I completely agree that cutting out junk food and moving your ass are a good start, but are these the only factors related to weight loss? I believe there’s a point that often gets missed [...]

Accepting fate
2008-07-30 09:25:34
Image courtesy of SXC I predict that you’re broke. Gee, thanks!!! This title could be deceptive, but don’t worry I’m not going to talk about fat acceptance which I think is really nothing more than accepting death.  There’s no way you can convince me  that being fat is ok, you might as well point a [...]

No title
2008-07-30 07:52:47
Image courtesy of SXC Hmmm, how many calories in that Mint Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino blended creme with Chocolate Whipped Cream I found this really cool page for calorie freaks:  it tells you the amount of calories that you need daily to maintain your weight.  The title of this post is what it works out to for me [...]

Frustration, frustration and more FRUSTRATION
2008-07-28 10:30:18
It’s not looking good. I’ve never liked Sundays.  It’s such a boring day.   In the morning there is nothing to watch or nobody else to talk to because everybody else is sleeping or curing their hangover from Saturday night.  To make things worse, the next day is Monday which speaks for itself. I usually take the weekends [...]

How many calories in that?
2008-07-25 12:53:11
Image courtesy of SXC The perfect label? I’ve been surfing the net these days and found some really nice sites.  I’m realizing that the word calories comes up a lot in online conversations.  It’s like a mantra: you have to watch how many calories you’re eating, you have to watch your portion size.  But to tell [...]

Just one chocolate, pleeeeeease
2008-07-23 20:36:50
Image courtesy of SXC Mmmmmm, please give me one, just oooone!!! Over the last two weeks I’ve been working on changing my habits.  I’ve been doing exercise five days a week, eating fruit everyday and salad almost everyday.  As for protein, I’m having lots of chicken and fish but I still eat red meat which I think [...]

The biggest SECRET that everybody knows
2008-07-21 19:03:22
This website has been on line for a week now.  I’m having a lot of fun with it.  Right now I’m doing a lot of research to find out what’s out there, to see if there are similar blogs and guess what?  I found tons of blogs about weight loss but very few that are [...]

Embarrassing moments
2008-07-19 19:41:34
Yes, it’s true, we have to admit it:  overweight people all have some embarrassing moments that we wish we could forget.  Myself, I can’t even count anymore how many moments or especially pictures I wish I could just erase. For example this one: This photo was taken by my lovely girlfriend at the airport in Sao Paulo [...]

Summer day
2008-07-18 22:15:36
Yesterday (17/7/2008) was a beautiful day here in Montreal: gorgeous,  bright, sunny.  It was impossible  not to go outside.  I love to do sports on days like this, I think it’s because I  grew up in a tropical country (Brazil) so I’m used to this kind of weather. The only problem was that I didn’t have [...]

Mind Tricks
2008-08-17 17:20:23
Image courtesy of SXC Not the best trick I’m glad that this week is over and now I can sit down and don’t feel obligated to do anything (besides cleaning the house).  It’s funny and interesting how your mind plays with you, it can help you through difficult times or it can drag you down.  During [...]

The plan revised
2008-08-12 14:22:43
Remember when I told you guys that my plan wasn’t carved in stone?  Well I decided to add some strength exercise to my routine.  It’s just 3 exercises, not a lot I know, but I’m afraid that I can’t do much more than that. There are two reasons why I decided to add these exercises. The [...]

Progress update 11/08/2008
2008-08-11 08:54:05
I’m on track and losing 2 pounds a week which is nice, however, during the week my lowest weight was 366lbs, damn weekend

The plan
2008-08-10 17:18:46
Hmm, probably not the best plan. When I started this journey I didn’t have any plan, I mean a real PLAN like eating a certain amount of calories per day and exercising for a certain time period.  I didn’t want to put more pressure on myself (THE PLAN) because I knew that just the pressure of [...]

Tips from Olympic coaches
2008-08-08 00:22:34
Interesting article from msnbc. Boxing: Larry Nicholson USA Boxing’s developmental coach of the year in 2003 and current assistant coach for USA Boxing Develop full-body strength “Weights are great, but don’t underestimate the power of body-weight exercises. They provide you with a body awareness that you just can’t get with plates or dumbbells, and that translates into mor

Lower abs
2008-08-06 19:51:39
This is an old video that I downloaded a while ago from the web. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. I didn’t know I had it all this time. I was looking for an exercise for the lower abs that will be gentle on my lower back. I think this one will [...]

The latest progress…finally
2008-08-06 07:02:45
This past week I didn’t lose that much weight,  just 0.6 ponds.  But if you take a look at where I started, you’ll see that I’ve lost almost 10 pounds over the last 3 weeks, which is pretty good.   So I’m sticking  to the plan (which I will post about later this week)

Weekly Update - Return of the Dead
2008-09-01 23:36:32
This past week wasn’t fun at all. I had to stop doing exercise because of the extreme stiffness in my leg, plus I went off my diet and probably gained a few pounds. Looking back, I think there were two factors.  When my scale broke and I couldn’t check my weight every day, I think I [...]

Study says cheating on weekends is a no no
2008-08-30 19:51:20
Image courtesy of SXC According to a recent study from Washington University, regularly overeating on the weekend can lead to a nine-pound weight gain by the end of the year. And it is not only holiday weekends that are to blame - it seems we consume more calories on most weekends. And at the end of a [...]

Tough week. Last 3 days–even tougher
2008-08-28 00:26:24
I don’t know why, but each week feels harder than the last. Maybe it’s because I want to do better or because every day I feel a little bit more pain.  I’ve just had to change my plan because I was so stiff on the weekend that I could barely walk. Fortunately I can bike [...]

Weekly Update - Beat by the Pain
2008-08-26 08:47:52
I’ve tried, I really tried but I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to stick to my plan.  I was doing well last week, I still had a little bit of pain in my left leg, but it was manageable.  However, last Friday (oh my god, another toughest day on Friday) thing changed during [...]

Partial R.I.P.
2008-08-25 12:42:58
I won’t be able to weigh myself today because my scale stopped working. Actually, it’s partially working because when my girlfriend uses it, it’s ok but when I step on it, the scale shows 0.0. Thanks “weight watchers” for the wonderful scale that worked for less than a year. Since I don’t [...]

The Plan - Revision #2 - 08/20/2008
2008-08-23 10:47:11
Hmm, I particularly like the last task I came up with some goals during this past week.  I’m feeling  strongly about them, so I’d like to make them official. My plan is to lose 2.5 pounds a week, or 10 pounds a month.  I think that’s hard but not crazy.  I’ve been losing at that rate over [...]
