Seal Beach 2008-07-10 00:10:07 Couple nights back I was at the beach with my son Justin shooting pictures. Justin was armed with my Nikon D70 and I with my D200. Most of our images were taken while walking along the pier at Seal Beach
in Southern California. These were images I made while leaning on different rails. Converted to B&W via Photoshop. Left: Nikon D200 70-200mm at 80mm f/4.5 for 1/80secRight: Nikon D200 70-200m
Orange Picking 2008-07-06 13:15:38 Several days ago, my family was picking oranges from a neighbors tree which has yielded hundreds of oranges. Unfortunately our neighbor is quite elderly and cannot pick them himself. Therefore my wife offered to pick several and take them off his hands. You may think that was cold to just take them, but he actually doesn't seem to like oranges, so it was fine. Here is an image of my son J Read more:Orange

Panning images 2008-07-01 05:04:28 Recently I was at a local "car show" called Cars & Coffee. I was standing by the side of the road shooting some images as the beautiful cars and bikes sped by. First is a some motorcycle, next is a Ferrari.Notice how the background is racing by and the especially the wheels are "moving". Capturing objects in motion can be somewhat easy if the shutter speed is high. Howev
Black & White Conversion 2008-06-23 17:43:05 Thought I'd post an example of the capability to convert a color image to B&W via the computer. As a rule I always shoot in color with my Nikon D200. My camera does have the option of capturing the image in B&W. However, I am simply not using every pixel available. This camera wasn't cheap, I would like to use every pixel available! So, I just convert in the post processing. Read more:Black

New web server 2008-06-20 16:54:42 Howdy visitorsI just finished building and configuring a web server
which happens to host whittierphotography.com. The previous server was a Dell dual Xeon at 400MHz each and around a 1GB of ram. Was purchased in early 2000.This new server is a Dual Quad Core Xeon at 2GHz and 4GB of ram. Crazy thing is that it probably cost less than half the price of its predecessor. Building it my self decre
Cream Rose 2008-06-11 17:07:57 This is an early photo from a few years ago. Bought this rose from a girl in a parking lot. Brought the rose home and it sat by the kitchen window for a day or so. From what I have seen, near perfect roses are difficult to come by. They often have at least one problem petal. This one was great. Anyways, originally a red rose, I altered the color in Photoshop. Came out nice. Nikon D70 18-70 Read more:Cream
Hiking through burn area 2008-06-08 21:02:02 Today I hiked along a trail in an area called Round Canyon within the Irvine, CA city limits. I was in a group of fifteen people and a guide. This is the first time I have been in this area, however the conservancy has been hosting these photography hikes since December of last year. Just two months after the fires. I wish I would have know about this then! Here are a couple pictures from the h Read more:Hiking
All Aboard! 2008-06-06 13:30:55 This is an image I took just last weekend. I like the lines and of course the colors. Added some more contrast. Taken with Nikon D200 70-200mm at 70mm f/8
L.A. Union Station Protest 2008-06-06 00:23:46 Hi All,I will have a few blog entries regarding last Sunday. I attended a small photographers protest at UnionStation
in LA. You might be asking yourself why would photographers create a protest. Quite often, photographers are harassed for taking pictures in public places. Honestly, it is really because we have the "big" cameras. Several people with camera phones or point n shoots Read more:Protest
Repeatable Pattern 2008-05-31 14:26:28 This genre image is called repeatable pattern for obvious reasons. The original image is color and I converted to black & white via PS CS3 with their B&W adjustments. I removed some light peeking in between a few of the logs. Was very distracting. Hope you like it! Taken with Nikon D200 70-200mm at 165mm f/5.6 for 1/125 sec. Read more:Pattern
Getty Villa 2008-07-20 16:53:20 Here is a link to the event On Saturday the 19th of July I visited the GettyVilla
in Pacific Palisades, California. The drive is around forty-five minutes from Whittier, Ca without traffic. I know, when is Southern California without traffic. Actually, it was very nice on the trek up. Around forty-five minutes, so there. Unfortunately around one hour ten minutes on the way back! This was
Walkn Hollywood Blvd. 2008-07-18 01:59:48 Here is the link to some of the images taken. On Wednesday the 16th I decided that normal was just too, well normal. I packed up my camera gear and drove thirty miles to Hollywood
. First, I'd like to thank Garmin for his excellent talents with giving directions. I swear that you would still see a silver GTO roaming the streets of Hollywood to this minute if it was purely up to me. Confus
Mayan Dancer 2008-07-14 01:02:10 Little while ago I was in downtown Los Angeles. To be specific, the famous Olvera street. This is an area where the Hispanic culture is quite strong. Many great photo opportunities. The following image shows a lady practicing a Mayan
dance. Just to be clear, from what I understand this is Mayan, not Aztec. If I am mistaken, I apologize. Anyways, this image isn't particularly clear and sharp. Read more:Dancer
Bloomn' Hollyhocks 2008-08-02 23:05:40 On July 27th, I was visiting family in the High Desert of California. I know, the High Desert isn't exactly the place you would think of for flowers such as these. However, my wife's parents have managed to grow a garden where previously there was nothing but sand and rocks.I took this image with the Hollyhock facing the setting sun around 7:30 in the evening. At 200mm, my lens did a
