Hearst Castle - a castle with an ocean view
2008-06-13 13:38:31
Hearst Castle is one of the few buildings in America that bears the name "Castle". We just don't have castles here like they have in Europe. Castles are a thing of the past and especially in California we don't have old buildings except for the few old missions that are scattered along the coast. I know I am exaggerating a little but not too much. So, just the name Hearst Castle becomes interes

California Adventure Park is a true amusement park
2008-06-04 23:31:06
We took advantage of the 2Fer ticket for Southern California residents when we visited Disneyland on Easter weekend. So, two weeks after visiting Disneyland during Spring Break, we came back to visit California Adventure for FREE ! This was a great deal indeed. The simple fact that we came after Spring Break made our experience a lot better than what we went through when visiting Disneyland.

Disneyland, California - a dream come true
2008-05-16 01:57:07
Disneyland is called the "happiest place on earth"...at least that's how the Disney company calls it. A place of magic and wonder where Mickey Mouse is the king. This visit was very special because I took my wife and my daughter to visit and it was their first time visiting Disneyland. I think it's pretty cool to take people to Disneyland especially if they've never been there before.

Mysterious California - Alabama Hills
2008-04-29 18:49:21
When people think about Romania, they immediately think of mystery! Not so when they hear California . California brings different thoughts: sun, ocean, surfing, Hollywood but nobody is immediately thinking of mystery when they hear the word California. Does this mean that there is nothing mysterious about California?

One of these mysterious places is called Corbii din Piatra, or Stone Ravens in English. What is so mysterious about it?

Geneva - a classy city
2008-01-31 13:25:23
I visited Geneva on three different occasions and every single time so it happened that I was coming to Geneva from France. What an interesting feeling that was every time I arrived in Geneva. It definitely felt like I was in a completely different country, even though everyone was speaking French in Geneva, Switzerland never felt like France. From the way people wait at the street lights to cr

Bruxelles - not very exciting
2008-01-17 21:08:28
What can I say about Bruxelles? We visited Bruxelles after visiting Paris and there is simply no comparison. But that's to be expected right? I don't know of many cities that compare with Paris in terms if tourist attractions. Well, Bruxelles is on the other side of the spectrum when compared to Paris...it lacks tourist attractions. It's true that you have what to see in a couple of days but

5 easy ways to save lots of money on transportation in Europe
2008-01-11 23:34:44
Europe is very different when it comes to means of transportation. While most of us in America, especially in California, rely almost entirely on our cars, Europeans rely most of the times on public transportation. This clearly shows that we prefer to travel alone or just with a few people while [...]

Bruges - just delightful
2008-01-08 17:33:32
Bruges is a great escape from Bruxelles! Bruxelles is crowded, noisy and it gives the impression of buildings being piled together because old and modern buildings are mixed without any rhyme or reason. Bruges old town is not crowded and is very quiet despite tons of tourists. So, going to Bruges' old town is a delight to the eyes, the ears and the feet.

Paris - the greatest place to start the New Year
2008-01-02 19:43:05
I love Paris ! I think most everyone who visits this city will just love it! I'm not really sure about people living in Paris though, but I still think most people living there love the city. I don't even know what to write about this city because there is so much more to see and do there.

Monterey - more scenic beauty
2007-12-27 15:25:54
Yesterday I wrote about Big Sur and I couldn’t resist writing about Monterey so quickly. For one thing if you have driven all the way to the small town of Big Sur you can might as well drive to Carmel and then a little further to Monterey. If you have the time to [...]

Big Sur - just amazing landscape!
2007-12-26 12:33:25
Big Sur is an area on the coast of California, roughly in between San Simeon to the south and the little town of Big Sur to the north. It is not clearly defined and many people refer to different places when talking about Big Sur. Some talk about the Point Sur light house while some talk about the Julia Pfeiffer Burns park. Regardless of the proper definition of Big Sur, this area of the Califo

6 simple rules for using your ATM and Credit Cards in Europe
2007-12-24 13:27:23
The convenience of ATM cards and Credit cards extends over the ocean in Europe as well thanks to a few global cash networks. These networks allow cards to be used in different countries just as you would used them at home in the US. However, with so many cards issued by so many banks in the US, it is difficult to handle questions like: which card is the best? or should I use my ATM or credit car

Yvoire - 700 years old medieval town
2007-12-19 12:24:30
We loved this little town. This is a great spot for a day trip from Geneva. We would've loved to take the boat from Geneva but we didn't have enough time. The boat ride takes about two hours because it has to stop in a few places before reaching Yvoire. The boat ride looks very appealing especially on a clear day and I am sure that the views from the boat are just amazing. However, because we

2007 Camarillo Christmas Parade
2007-12-17 14:53:48
I call this the "Pajama Parade " because parade participants come dressed in their everyday clothes even their pajamas sometimes. Even though it has improved over the years, this is not the "Rose Parade" with fancy floats and carefully selected marching bands. The Camarillo Christmas Parade is a parade for the community; it's a great feeling to see people you know walking in the parade.

Sibiu - European Cultural Capital for 2007
2007-12-07 13:55:57
Ever since Sibiu was designated European Cultural Capital for 2007, this became a really big deal in Romania. Everybody was talking about it and lots of money was invested in remodeling the old city center. Regardless what people say, I believe that the city did an amazing job with the remodeling. Sibiu's Large Square looks on par if not better than other large European cities.

Brasov - More European
2007-12-05 12:46:34
Brasov is one of the largest cities in Romania and a great commerce and tourist hub for the country. We have visited Brasov a few times and we keep noticing how clean the Main Square is. The city does a great job keeping the touristy areas clean. We love to walk the streets leading to the Main Square and once we're there we enjoy very much just sitting on a bench and looking at children playing

Gruyeres - Pretty as a postcard
2007-11-29 17:56:38
Gruyeres is a small mountain village in the Gruyere region of Switzerland. It is famous for cheese and the Gruyeres sour cream. The cheese is great indeed! However, we were not very impressed by the sour cream...it was way too thick and fatty. Most of all we were not impressed with the prices...but we got used to it in Switzerland...it's just an expensive country.

Annecy - Return from Alpine Pasture
2007-11-26 12:08:58
We were in Annecy in 2005 at the beginning of October and stumbled upon this farmers' festival. It took me a while to figure out what the name of this festival was but I finally found it: Return from alpine pasture (Le Retour des Alpages). It takes place the second Saturday of October, every year. We just happened to visit Annecy on that Saturday and it was great...We sampled local food, saw a

Bucharest - Arch of Triumph
2007-11-20 11:10:21
Who said that only the French have an Arch of Triumph? Well there is another one in Bucharest in Romania…it’s a little smaller and it’s not connected to the Champs d’Elysees…but it is called the Arch of Triumph and serves the same purpose as the original Arch of Triumph in Paris. Bucharest Arch of [...]

Malibu - Lots of things to see in one place.
2007-11-12 00:14:21
If you're visiting California you must've heard of Malibu ...stars, expensive homes, beaches...just beautiful. But what is there to visit besides beaches? Are there any other tourist spots? I found two...actually two in one. The Malibu Lagoon Park...beautiful beach, surfers, lots of wildlife and the beautiful Adamson House...talk about attraction concentration!

In my previous Amsterdam post I was showing a picture from late summer and the flowers where everywhere on each bridge almost. As the cold season sets in the flowers start disappearing from the streets and are confined only to the flower shops.

Big Bear Lake - a very dry season
2007-11-06 23:22:37
A dry season in California creates new beaches on Big Bear Lake. This picture from September 2004 shows lots of white sand on the shores of this beautiful lake. You can also notice the dry vegetation. If you know Big Bear, you will notice that this green is very dry compared with the normal bright green that you normally see in Big Bear throughout the year.

Montreaux and beautiful Lake Geneva
2007-11-05 23:51:53
While I was waiting for some tea to brew…a storm was brewing over the lake. In a matter of minutes the clouds came over the mountains and engulfed the sun and turned a sunny and peaceful sky into a threatening scene. Compare the view above with the view below taken during a sunny day. [...]
