The Horror Movie: Hollywood Classics and Modern Updates
2007-03-14 21:26:00
The horror movie: you either love it or hate it. For fans, a scary movie means heart-pounding, edge-of-your-seat thrills, while non-fans equate a horror movie with hands over the eyes and an "I can't wait for this thing to be over" feeling. One thing's for certain: you don't want to watch a scary movie alone. The Classics The horror movie genre is filled with classics, but these are our favorites for scary movies that never get old:1. Frankenstein - This 1931 classic with Boris Karloff as The Monster and Colin Clive as the obsessed scientist Dr. Henry Frankenstein will forever be cited as the best scary movie ever made. Best line from the movie? Frankenstein's bone-tingling cry of, "Look! It's moving.... It's alive. It's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's ALIVE!"2. Dracula - Another scary movie classic released in 1931, Bela Lugosi starred as Count Dracula in the movie, "Dracula." It is Bela Lugosi's chilling performance as the title character that makes this movie timeless.

"Scary Movie Mania" is Spreading.
2007-03-09 18:34:00
For horror movie fans every where there were already probably 100 if not a thousand websites devoted to fans mad about the genre. Now there’s one more site on the fan radar. Scary Movie Mania , launched the end of Feb 2007 has just about every scary movie that's ever been made. I'm talking about not only the classics, like Frankenstein and Dracula starring some of everyone’s actors such as Bela Legosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, but also many present day flicks, many movies considered modern day classics, such as Amityville Horror. There’s also the newest version, some consider better than the original, starring Ryan Reynolds. And there’s the movie that’s probably considered the scariest of all time, The Exorcist.Scary Movie Mania certainly isn’t the first website that sells horror movies, but it’s probably the only one that has a database of over 2,000 of some of the scariest movies of all time. They not only have an impressive collection of horr

"Love at First Bite"

I fell in love with horror movies as a young boy. I remember every saturday watching those old classic black and white movies. You know the ones starring Lon Chaney, Jr. as the Werewolf or Bela legosi as Dracula? But probably my favorite character though, at the time, was Frankenstein, portrayed by the great Boris Karloff.I recall flipping through one of my horror magazines one day and I found one of those really "cheesy" ads in the back, advertising this 7 foot tall life-like poster of the "UGLY GUY", replete with GLOW in the dark EYES. Wow, I thought. I deliberated with-in myself whether I should order it, thinking it would be kinda of cool to have, and probably after about, maybe 30 seconds, I started cutting out that little mail-in coupon, feverishly stuffing it, along with the required payment in the first envelope I could find. I subsequently mailed that envelope and greatly anticipated the posters arrival. After a few short weeks wait, I had my poster and boy was I excited. It wa

News on Hostel Part Two
2007-02-24 13:28:00
Bijou Phillips is about to give a bunch of geeks the thrill of their lives, according to the NY Post. The former wild child is starring in the new Lionsgate slasher flick Hostel Part Two, and the racy poster for the movie is being unveiled this weekend at the Comic Con event at the Javits Center in NY. The poster shows Phillips nude and beheaded. Even better, the photo shoot for it was at the El Royale apartment complex in Hollywood with all the windows open. "The neighbors got an eyeful," said our spy. Not that Phillips cares - she's an exhibitionist. Hostel Part II hits theaters June 8.Source: The NY Post

Halloween The Movie
2007-02-23 23:42:00
The year was 1978, it was the year Michael Myers was not only unleashed upon the small town of Haddonfield but it was also when the movies franchise itself was born. Halloween is about a true mad man that when as a six year old child kills his oldest sister and some years later after spending 15 years in a sanitariom escapes in order to come after his other sister. This setup I thought was great and provided a nice backstory for the movie itself.Although many of the sequels to Halloween were not all that great this movie, the original, will go down in horror movie history as one of the greatest scary movies of all time. Not only was the killer's role protrayed with machine-like precision but the lead character protrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis was also done to rave reviews. This movie was the one that established the young actress as the "Queen of Scream", and once you see her performance you'll see why the moniker fits her like a glove. This movie clearly is my "hands down" favorite scar

The Hills Have Eyes Remake Is A Spooky Home Watch

By Jonathon HardcastleThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a classic horror movie which has been replicated in every shape and form over the years by a host of movies. Wes Craven paid homage to the storyline in the 1980s when he released the original "The Hills Have Eyes".[Read Full Article]

Movie Review - Dawn of the Dead (2004)
2007-04-18 03:17:00
By Darren LaRoseSummary:I was – I think understandably – wary upon hearing that a remake was being attempted of Dawn of the Dead: zombie master George A. Romero's greatest film. With the dearth of incredibly awful horror remakes of late, I'm sure no one could blame me. Thankfully my fears were largely unfounded, and, while it doesn't measure of the original, Zach Snyder's Dawn of the Dead is a surprising and slick re-imagining of the Romero Classic.[Read Full Article]

Ten Must-See Horror Flicks
2007-04-20 05:48:00
By: Lisa KoosisWhat scares you? Noises in the dark? Bats? Bees? Sharks? Are you scared of strangers or squirrels, or maybe even your own shadow? So what scares you? I don't know, but for those who like to be scared, here's my countdown of the top ten best horror movies out there.Coming in at Number 10...The ExorcistThe Exorcist just narrowly makes it into my top 10 of horror, primarily because I don't find it to be nearly as scary as it's been billed to be. What makes The Exorcist a top 10 of horror is that it's just plain fun. A child speaking in tongues, spinning her head around like a whirlygig, projectile vomiting pea soup. Who can resist such supernatural fun? The Exorcist reminds me that you can't take horror too seriously all the time. Sure, I like to be scared, but horror is also about having fun, suspending your disbelief for a few hours. The movie also has a superbly spooky soundtrack -- great for a few chills.Number 9...The Blob"Which one?" you ask.My answer: It doesn'

Wes Craven Names His Five Favorite Horror Movies
2007-04-28 20:41:00
by Scott WeinbergWhen the guy who directed The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream decides he wants to share his five favorite horror films with the world, two things are certain: 1. Horror fans should probably sit up, take notice and jot the titles down (if they haven't seen 'em yet), and 2. The news will be carried in (of all places) The Wall Street Journal.Yes, Wes Craven was asked to list his favorite fistful of fright flicks, and here's what one of the modern masters of macabre had to offer: the original Frankenstein (Craven's going out on a limb already -- although I do give the man credit for not going with the more popular choice of Bride of Frankenstein), Mervyn LeRoy's The Bad Seed (does that include the final scene, Wes?), The Exorcist (another potentially controversial pick), the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (darn good pick -- albeit another fairly obvious one) and Ridley Scott's Alien -- which, as anyone who reads Fil

Identity (Movie Review)
2007-05-07 01:11:00
By Britt GilletteStarring John Cusack and Ray Liotta, Identity is a film which opened to little of the commercial fanfare associated with a typical blockbuster movie. But this is a film that packs all of the suspense and entertainment value of The Sixth Sense into an original screenplay about a serial killer on the loose. Haunting in its presentation, yet far from a traditional horror film, Identity follows the exploits of ten strangers who become stranded at a Nevada hotel in the midst of a massive rainstorm. One-by-one, they are being killed off, but no one knows the true identity of the killer…A number of seemingly unrelated people gather at a small roadside motel in a Nevada desert location. Strangers to each other, the people descend from all different types of professions and lifestyles - a limousine driver and his movie star client, a policeman (Ray Liotta) transporting a convict, two parents with their young son, a prostitute (Amanda Peet), a young couple, and the motel's ma

John Carpenter's Halloween
2007-06-23 19:14:00
Written By: Sidney R. Shannon,CEO, Scary Movie ManiaWe’ve all seen certain movies that we don't mind watching over again, and each time we see them they remind us exactly why we liked them in the first place. Well, Halloween is that kind of movie.Halloween is a story about a murderous-escaped mental patient, named Michael Myers, who returns to his fictitious home town of Haddonfield, Ill. on Halloween in order to continue his homicidal predilection discovered by his parents when he was six years old, after he killed his older sister. Halloween was made in 1978, but still remains one of the best horror movies ever made. Here are just a few reasons why.Halloween: The night he came home. The first thing I must say was John Carpenter 's and Debra Hill's decision to write a horror movie using Halloween as the backdrop. They figured out that if done right they could maximize the latent potential for terror, suspense and horror that creating a movie surrounding the holiday could present. A
