An Egyptian court sentenced a blogger to four years in prison on Thursday for writing online entries that insulted Islam and the president.
It was Egypt’s first prosecution of a blogger. In a brief, five-minute session in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, a judge handed down the verdict to convict 22-year-old Abdel Karrem Nabil on charges of “insulting Islam” and inciting sedition, as well as the charge of insulting President Hosni Mubarak.
Prosecutors accused Nabil of criticizing his former university, an Islamic institution. They noted Nabil had called the Al-Azhar University “the university of terrorism” on his blog, condemning it for suppressing free thought.

Near the landing of the last offramp, a seemingly innocent looking structure makes itself distinct with ornate metal tridents on the corners of its unroofed top floor. I’ve been passing this area for more than half a decade and I’ve always noticed that strips of black cloth are tied to the tridents themselves.
If you peer into the windows of the building, it’s easy to see the many sewing machines inside. It’s probably a garments factory, but why do they have those tridents upstairs? , the track appears at the Yahoo! Wolfgang WAP site as simply Death Squad. It’s the shortest among the four tracks and is easily the most easy to appreciate at first listen. I remember mouthing the words when this was being played during the concert, but I stopped pretending I knew the lyrics when Basti stared at my side of the crowd. lol

It’s been a month since I activated Atheista.net and despite my initial fears regarding overhauling an already functional setup, the results have definitely convinced me that I made the right call regarding stepping out of free blog-hosting providers (shout outs to Wordpress and MyJournal) to be one of the small unprotected fry in the vast sea that is cyberspace (what the hell am I talking about?! What am I on?!). My host has been letting me down lately - this site has been down three times since I got it — and I’m beginning to wonder if listening to Aaron was the best decision I made in my life.

The Atheist Concession 2007-03-25 17:47:50 Through out my writings regarding atheism, I’ve always tried to adapt a non-confrontational and more or less academic tone (at least to the best of my ability) when it comes to verbalizing my thoughts and ideas. One thing that I’ve said is that I somehow envy (term used loosely) christians or other people who believe in their respective gods and religions because through that ability to put trust on something that has no tangible existence, they are able to live their lives as if somebody else is making sure that things will go their way. There’s something very appealing with the idea that somebody up there is watching over your - and heck, everyone else’s — move in your day-to-day existence.

is the day that most people use to play the meanest and funniest pranks on their friends and family members. Some websites even spread false information only to take them down the next day once they expose that it’s just their April Fools’ Joke. April 1 has a totally different meaning for me.
Six years ago, just twenty days before my high school graduation rites, my grandfather died after sustaining massive infarcts to his brain. He has been in the ICU for almost a week following a severe stroke. My Lolo Ben (surprise, surprise! Yes, he’s a Benjamin too! So is my dad, my other (late) Lolo and my brother) is no stranger to brushes with death. He once underwent a cranial surgery to remove blood clots that he got after he fell off his motorcycle.
I was extremely close to my Lolo Ben. He was the first one who attempted to teach me how to write. Thanks to him, I have been writing my name (my loooong name) since age 2. He has a weird way

I have no idea why in this day in age, people would favor an offensive and arrogant display marinated in intolerance and insensitivity as opposed to opting for a procedure that everyone would have been more likely amenable (yes, I can be funny without being offensive) to.
