Believe it or not, there are still people out there who still don’t know that exposure to asbestos can cancer. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is believed to be brought about by a prolonged exposure to asbestos. In this disease, cancer cells accumulate in the lining of the pleural and abdominal cavities. In some cases, the cancer cells even find their way to heart. To help out people to understand this type of cancer better, the folks at medical humor decided to put a little bit of humor with pictures and jokes to enhance the enjoyment factor and make it more conducive for people to refer the website to their friends. When Nursing Students Kill
2007-03-16 18:06:40
Well, it’s obviously an accident, but it sure had really heavy consequences. It makes you wonder if the standards of quality nursing education is being met by some schools and hospitals. You feel for the family who lost their child, but you also have to feel for the student who messed up, right? In an ideal scenario, any individual who lacks the proper training shouldn’t be near medicine that could potentially do people harm. Nursing student’s error leads to baby’s death By Marlon Ramos Southern Luzon Bureau Last updated 07:48pm (Mla time) 03/13/2007 CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A one-year-old boy died last week in a hospital in Batangas City after a nursing student inadvertently injected him with a chemical compound meant to be infused through an intravenous drip, a hospital official said Tuesday. Dr. Renato Dimayuga, Batangas Regional Hospital director, said victim John Jesreel Halcon died of cardiac arrest shortly after the 22-year-old nur

Maria Ressa PWNS Chavit Singson
2007-03-15 12:17:17
Watching ANC really has its rewards. Last night, on Ricky Carandang’s show, three senatorial candidates were put on the hot seat as they were asked sharp questions from three panelists - Maria Ressa, some guy named Lazatin and Bishop Bacani (you know the rapist). Things went towards a comedic turn when Ressa asked Singson a question: *not verbatim Ressa: Governor Singson, you have mentioned repeatedly that corruption is rampant in our country. This question might be easy for you, but in your experience in local government, how have you fought corruption and what needs to be done to combat corruption in the national level and change this type of culture? Chavit: O_o Ressa: Sir, how have you fought corruption? Chavit: *grumbles and talks incoherently* Ricky: Sir, ano pong nagawa nyo para labanan ang corruption at paano n’yo po iniiba ang sistema? Chavit: Walang nagbabago eh. Yan ang problema sa’tin. O_o That was the best he could come up with?! He had a mountain of e

‘Insulting’ blog lands Egyptian in jail Last Updated: Thursday, February 22, 2007 | 12:10 PM ET CBC News An Egyptian court sentenced a blogger to four years in prison on Thursday for writing online entries that insulted Islam and the president. It was Egypt’s first prosecution of a blogger. In a brief, five-minute session in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, a judge handed down the verdict to convict 22-year-old Abdel Karrem Nabil on charges of “insulting Islam” and inciting sedition, as well as the charge of insulting President Hosni Mubarak. Prosecutors accused Nabil of criticizing his former university, an Islamic institution. They noted Nabil had called the Al-Azhar University “the university of terrorism” on his blog, condemning it for suppressing free thought. As the verdict was read Thursday, Nabil, wearing a grey T-shirt, gave no reaction from the defendant’s pen. Guards immediately escorted him to a prison truck an

Satanism By The Skyway
2007-03-17 20:52:10
If you take the Skyway a lot, the building on the picture will probably be familiar. Near the landing of the last offramp, a seemingly innocent looking structure makes itself distinct with ornate metal tridents on the corners of its unroofed top floor. I’ve been passing this area for more than half a decade and I’ve always noticed that strips of black cloth are tied to the tridents themselves. If you peer into the windows of the building, it’s easy to see the many sewing machines inside. It’s probably a garments factory, but why do they have those tridents upstairs? A classmate who belongs to the Opus Dei claimed that she is certain that it is a Satanic Church. That made me curious. (more…) Viewed 690 times by 142 viewers

Fireplaces
2007-03-19 21:41:15
If you’re looking for fireplace mantels that could further enhance your home, Desatech is definitely the place to go. The fireplace fixtures go for as low as 91 dollars for a 26-inch corner mantel and full hearth base with an unfinished oak veneer. Stained oak can go for as low as 140 dollars - that’s quite a small price considering the amount of class and elegance that it could bring to your room (of course, it will warm your home as well, haha). If you have more money to burn (pun intended), there are well-painted pieces that feature a 32″ frame. With a fireplace that huge, I guess you wouldn’t have to worry about getting cold during winter nights. If you do decide to build your fireplace with the help of Desatech, they will even treat you to free shipping with selected items! How’s that for a great deal? Again, prices go from as low as a very affordable 91 dollars to a still reasonable amount of $299. Other supplies needed to build a fireplace are also

New Wolfgang Album In The Works!
2007-03-20 19:25:17
Jim Ayson recently shared via Philmusic.com that Basti Artadi, Mon Legaspi and Manuel Legarda are currently working on what would be Wolfgang ’s sixth studio album. While some people would contest that not having Wolf Gemora on drums keeps it from being officially Wolfgang, hardcore fans who have already been waiting since 2001 for a new album couldn’t care less. Unless you’ve been living under a rock - or you don’t care much for Wolfgang — January probably thrilled you out of your wits or left you very frustrated. If you were one of the people fortunate enough to catch them once or twice (like me), you’re probably really giddy to see the next concert.   If you were pissed at yourself, this was probably the one that met you at the Music Museum ticket booth! We all make mistakes, but you have to admit, procrastinating on reserving Wolfgang tickets is probably among the worst ones you could make - especially because they’ve been pra

Sizing Up The Finalists
2007-03-20 12:14:23
The finalists for the Philippine Blog Awards were released earlier today. Each category was whittled to a very short list comprising of five entries and to the utter shock of everyone (yes, yes, play along), Atheista.net was snubbed out of contention. The judges obviously hate rockstars because Noisy, Noisy Man - a well-written and witty blog I nominated — was also not included as one of the finalists. Ok prepare for a little bit of sincerity. Death Squad - Wolfgang
2007-03-21 22:26:30
Yes, folks. This is one of Wolfgang ’s four new songs that will be available when their much-anticipated sixth studio album hits record bars at a still uncertain date. The track was first played in public during the two Alive 2007 concerts that I was fortunate enough to watch at the Music Museum. Originally called RP Death Squad , the track appears at the Yahoo! Wolfgang WAP site as simply Death Squad. It’s the shortest among the four tracks and is easily the most easy to appreciate at first listen. I remember mouthing the words when this was being played during the concert, but I stopped pretending I knew the lyrics when Basti stared at my side of the crowd. lol   Death Squad - Wolfgang The other three tracks are just as good. They actually hint of something that Wolfgang has never done before so it’s quite exciting. It’s even more impressive that Mon, Manuel and Basti recorded these songs by sharing files online. Yes, they’re clearly nowhere near

Fight The Evil Empire: The Marine Oligarchy Part 1
2007-03-21 20:36:20
No, this has nothing to do Rage Against The Machine - nor does it have anything to do with the relative recent development regarding Chris Cornell leaving Zach dela Rocha’s former band mates. This is just a work of fiction that doubles as “link love” gimmick. Just go with it. It is hard to jump to a body of ocean already inhabited by an already established school of fish. No, I’m not talking about bony fish (Class: Osteichthyes) - we’re not talking about a group of trout or salmon here. I wouldn’t want you to have that misconception. The type of fish that dominates these waters are an aggressive type of cartilaginous non-tetrapod chordate fish. I’m talking about sharks of course. These sharks have been living in these areas for so long that they have long dictated the way things are run. Everything in this biome has been under the command - every other small fish, glob of kelp and grain of sand has been at their disposal. Literally everyone an

One Month, One Year
2007-03-21 17:14:30
It’s been a month since I activated Atheista.net and despite my initial fears regarding overhauling an already functional setup, the results have definitely convinced me that I made the right call regarding stepping out of free blog-hosting providers (shout outs to Wordpress and MyJournal) to be one of the small unprotected fry in the vast sea that is cyberspace (what the hell am I talking about?! What am I on?!). My host has been letting me down lately - this site has been down three times since I got it — and I’m beginning to wonder if listening to Aaron was the best decision I made in my life. At this point, my blog has: Wow! It’s a Page Rank Zero blog! Amazing! For starters, this blog is new, so I would be really retarded to even expect a PR greater than zero. If this doesn’t change in the next two months or so, we could all start blaming PayPerPost. I’ll take the money they’ll send me over that lousy number on that box any day. See

Improve Your Sex Life!
2007-03-23 07:26:46
As a woman’s body ages - and after a couple of babies — the ligaments supporting the pelvic floor and the rest of the things contained in that cavity usually sag. The confluence of factors that cause this almost inevitable phenomenon is easy to discuss, but expectedly, the consequences for woman (and partner) are often devastating. It’s not a trivial matter. Even though the genitalia is a conventionally concealed part of the body, its state influences the general outlook of a person. Most women who thought their genitalia was disfigured in one way or another had a negative body image and a bad attitude towards sexual intercourse. Now that Mothers’ Day is coming up, why don’t we make the important women in our lives feel better? The Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Institute of Atlanta offers vaginal tightening as one of its services. The institute boasts a superb roster of doctors and the equipment in cutting edge medicine. John Of The Cross - Wolfgang
2007-03-24 15:10:13
This song has been drawing raves among the people I know so I’ll let you guys have a sneak peek. John Of The Cross is one of the four songs that the band has come up with since they’ve decided to write more songs for an upcoming album (no final release date yet). Be reminded that these songs are still recorded as demos and the files are just being shared over the internet due to the geographical constraints that Basti, Manuel and Mon are currently experiencing. Download the tracks using your mobile phones and show support for the best Filipino band ever. Each track can be downloaded for 50 pesos. Polytones and True Tones go for 20 and 30 bucks each. The DVD is also going to be released in a few week’s time so save up for that as well! If you can’t wait, download the demos or watch Death Squad as performed during the first concert. The Atheist Concession
2007-03-25 17:47:50
Through out my writings regarding atheism, I’ve always tried to adapt a non-confrontational and more or less academic tone (at least to the best of my ability) when it comes to verbalizing my thoughts and ideas. One thing that I’ve said is that I somehow envy (term used loosely) christians or other people who believe in their respective gods and religions because through that ability to put trust on something that has no tangible existence, they are able to live their lives as if somebody else is making sure that things will go their way. There’s something very appealing with the idea that somebody up there is watching over your - and heck, everyone else’s — move in your day-to-day existence.   Now when I say I envy that type of mindset, I have to make it precisely clear that I’m not insinuating that I aspire to be like the typical god-believing church-goer who praises the lord for everything good that happens in his life. I would like to think

I respect your belief guys but I think to much questions and logical with what sorround us will make our life complicated.Life is short bro’s.There is no problem if we believed in things that we never see w/ our own eyes. Its a matter of faith and conviction.Look at the things arround you.Are they exist on their own?Or someone create them?Or is it a magic?Sometimes there are things bro’s that human being’s mind need not to uncover to believe. Its a waiste of time.Live our life to the fullest atheists!!!There is big difference if we believe to unseen things than to scrutinize everything. What if the bible says is true?you’re lost people. And what if you’re correct with what you believe?we christian are not lost like yours because youre belief has no consequences like we believe.THINK ABOUT IT …   This comment was left on my Atheist Concession entry. For Kids With NBA Dreams Part II
2007-03-30 21:28:59
If this wasn’t enough to make you reconsider your NBA plans, maybe this next clip would. That.got.to.hurt. I would’ve loved to translate that in Jorge’s native language (Spanish), but unfortunately, I’m not that familiar with the language - and I’m not that pretentious enough to pretend that I do. haha  Jorge Garbajosa of the Toronto Raptors dislocated his ankle after a nasty fall during a game against the Boston Celtics. This is a big blow to the Raptors’ campaign considering that the 29 year-old rookie (yes, you read that right) is among their more steady players. Did that make you sad? Hopefully this  puts a smile in your face. Sometimes, it’s just way better to stop playing after the whistle, eh? Viewed 360 times by 108 viewers

April 1
2007-04-01 10:51:15
The first day of April is the day that most people use to play the meanest and funniest pranks on their friends and family members. Some websites even spread false information only to take them down the next day once they expose that it’s just their April Fools’ Joke. April 1 has a totally different meaning for me.   Six years ago, just twenty days before my high school graduation rites, my grandfather died after sustaining massive infarcts to his brain. He has been in the ICU for almost a week following a severe stroke. My Lolo Ben (surprise, surprise! Yes, he’s a Benjamin too! So is my dad, my other (late) Lolo and my brother) is no stranger to brushes with death. He once underwent a cranial surgery to remove blood clots that he got after he fell off his motorcycle.   I was extremely close to my Lolo Ben. He was the first one who attempted to teach me how to write. Thanks to him, I have been writing my name (my loooong name) since age 2. He has a weird way

The Politically-Incorrect Philippine Blog Awards
2007-04-01 07:24:32
I have nothing against people who practice their religion - because I want others to respect my belief (non-belief for that matter) system — but when individuals overstep the boundaries of their freedom and express utterly presumptuous and insensitive things, I quickly lose my patience. I’m perfectly fine with prayers. People could recite the entire rosary and complete ten novenas in front of me and I wouldn’t really feel any different. It becomes a totally different matter though when people fail to exercise their discretion in choosing the words for their publicly-aired prayers. The following is a transcript of the prayer read during the invocation. So compassionate, so faithful, so loving You are Our Father. We ask You to increase our faith and our love for You that we may use blogging as an instrument to fulfill Your purposes. May we become bloggers of truth and promoters of peace. Help us to be steadfast in our Christian commitment that visitors may find in our

Apathy Towards Zealotry Is Not An Option
2007-04-02 13:35:23
I really don’t get it. I have no idea why in this day in age, people would favor an offensive and arrogant display marinated in intolerance and insensitivity as opposed to opting for a procedure that everyone would have been more likely amenable (yes, I can be funny without being offensive) to. I’m not quite sure if I missed out on any details, but the last time I checked, the Philippine Blog Awards was an event that was supposed to champion Filipino bloggers regardless of creed, affiliation or niche. How it transformed to an exercise to remind bloggers to be steadfast in [our] Christian commitment and help bloggers lead us closer to You [the you being their god] is totally beyond me. I find it hard to blame the organizers for this unfortunate incident. After all, I’m sure they didn’t proof read and review what the speaker had prepared for the invocation. Given that circumstance, the responsibility squarely falls on one individual’s shoulders. It is quit

Necessity and Debating 101
2007-04-06 11:31:22
Seemingly reminiscent of a desperate debater who is on the verge of losing a round because he or she based his/her entire argumentation on a house of cards, the past few days has exposed the willingness of people to misrepresent, repeatedly misuse words (betraying the lexical definition), spinning stories with new angles and forcing peripheral issues as real issues. Let me now do the necessary reply speech (done by the last speaker of each team during the Australs format) to show you the fundamental flaws committed by the other side in arguing (or failing in this case) their poorly constructed and mostly-irrelevant cases. First Issue: Prejudice and Bigotry I was stunned when someone actually qualified what I said as prejudice and bigotry. Obviously, since the other person seems to have lost the actual definition of the word (or has chosen to spin the story by changing definitions to suit her purposes), she claimed that retaliation after an obviously discriminatory attack is brought a
