Hall Of Records - אתהפכא חשוכא לנהורא
2006-11-07 07:26:00
I am still in process of building my Hall Of Records for my Craftwork Of A Jewitch blog. Right now, it contains a Kingdom of Shadows, nine Grimoires (gates) and a Scroll Of Dreams - for a total of 11 "categories". Eleven is a prime number and represents uniqueness.Eleven Gates of Etz ChaiBelow is the list of the eleven 2-letter hebrew roots [1] I have currently chosen to represent the gates to the categories in my Hall of Records:Kingdom Of Shadows - הא - behold, being, exist, she, he, itGrimoires:1 (purification) - בו - lift, come, in it, move from public to private domain, entrance2 (persecution) - רמ - elevate, targeted movement, pomegranate3 (symbolism) - טפ - measuring with one's hand, attach, writing board, measured steps4 (mindcraft) - שז - look, braid, link parts together, impact5 (timecraft) - נס - miracle, prove, challenge, test, anointing, consecrating, raise signal, webbing, pour into a particular place, travel, ascend6 (wordcraft) - כל - everything, all, com

Dealing Death To The Shadow Of DeathThere is no reshus harabim in this world, but there will be in the future to come ... Resh LakishIn the next half of the previous dream, my bashert and I were in our private home, a reshut hayachid [1], together. I was washing the dishes in the kitchen sink. He was wandering about the house doing other things. While I was washing the dishes, a baby old enough to hold a bottle of milk on its own, was sitting in a baby seat on the floor behind me, nursing on a bottle of milk. (I didn't bottle feed any of my kids in real life.)My bashert wandered into the kitchen. I was finished with the dishes and turned around to see the baby seat overturned, and the "stuff" that had been with the baby (blanket, bottle, etc.) scattered in the corner. The baby had disappeared irretrievably into thin air.Oh well. We can always make a different baby [2].In the first dream "half" in the karmelis, the deathly-white spider was ripped in half. In this dream "half", in our pr

Why 'Walking On Fire'?
2006-10-26 20:24:00
Given the recent posts regarding blog names, to explain the title of my blog, livejournal and website, this is just a blurb regarding the significance of Walking On Fire.I choose the name Walking On Fire in consideration of my longstanding obsession with the idea (R' Adin Steinsaltz, In The Beginning) that:The purpose of creation and of our being in it is to integrate the worlds of tohu and tikun into a third order of existence much greater than either tohu or tikun of itself.Supporting this endeavor, R' Aryeh Kaplan on Sefer Yetzirah 3:2 writes:One commentator states that the letters AMSh אמש contain the mystery through which one can walk on fire [1]. The reason for this may be because these letters [2] have the power to reconcile opposites. It is possible that Rav Zeira made use of this technique to prevent his feet from being burned in fire, as related in the Talmud [3].Given that my blog's purpose is to reconcile the opposites of tohu and tikun in my own nature, I decided "wa

There are 11 spices of the ketoret (ritual incense used in temple service, Shemot 30:34). The Ari teaches that these 11 spices correspond to the 11 sefirot of the universe of Tohu [1]. R' Aryeh Kaplan writes regarding the 11 incense spices:They represent the complete rectification of evil .. and to the elevation of evil back into the realm of the holy [2]. The Talmud teaches that Moses was taught the mystery of the incense by the Angel of Death [3]. It is for this reason that when a plague broke out among the Israelites in the wilderness Moses ordered Aaron to walk through the camp with the incense [4]. This is the concept that the eleven perfumes have the power to overcome death and evil [

Regarding my earlier entry, Reconciliation Of Darkness & Light, pertaining to this:This new unified state of malchut, wherein darkness has been clarified and reunited with tohu va-bohu, is called יאיר. From the shoresh יאר (meaning irrigating body of water), it irrigates the earth with brilliance (like waters cover the sea).Jaron asked:Not from the shoresh אור, light?Yes, that's right. The way I see it, יאיר isn't from the shoresh (root) אור. It is from the shoresh יאר, the she'arim (gates) יי אר, and the orach (singular path) ה mappiq (הּ).Note, יי אר = 221 , the she'arim of David HaMelech (Sefer Yetzirah 2:4).other resources on mappiq-hei:heh with a dot in itmappiq-heh / patach genuvahTechnorati tags: Torah Talmud Torah Judaism Kabbalah jewish mysticism mysticism jewish meditation meditation kabbalah iyunit jewitchery jewitch jewish woman sacred feminine divine feminine shechinah lilith sefer hahabir bahir hei mappiq simchat beit hashoevah water

B'Hesech HaDa'at, Signs Part 2In my previous entry, I wrote regarding the physical "sign", the chatima tova, that occurred throughout my right leg erev rosh hashanah, relating the significance of this experience to the word בשחקים in verse 1 of Sefer HaBahir, which I am currently studying. R' Aryeh Kaplan, in his commentary on the verse, teaches that בשחקים, traditionally translated as skies, corresponds to the sefirot of Netzach and Hod, pertaining to prophecy and mystical vision, respectively. I correlated the flowing energy of the physical sign to Netzach and prophetic awareness.Necessarily, given that בשחקים is associated with both Netzach and Hod (justice, justice), I wondered where was evidence of Hod, other than in the capacity "to learn"? Was I - chas v'shalom! - unbalanced?Well, this morning, as I was resting in my bed before arising, the "mystical vision" of an answer came to me. Suddenly, I "heard" in my mind the reverberating sound like one hears when

Legally Binding Brilliance To Reality
2006-09-15 08:44:00
אמר ר' נחוניא בן הקנה כתוב אחד אומרBahir line 1In R' Aryeh Kaplan's translation of Sefer HaBahir, the word כתוב in kav 1 is translated as verse. Typically, the word for verse in hebrew is pasuk פסוק, not katuv כתוב which literally means "written".One reason for this may be that פס, the 2-letter root [1] of the word pasuk, also gives rise to the shoresh [2] פסל meaning idol.In contradistinction, the 2-letter root כת of the word katuv also gives rise to the shoresh כתר of the word keter, significant itself to the message and dynamic hidden in first kav of Sefer HaBahir as previously discussed. Moreover, the shoresh כתב of katuv means to "record", to "write" and a "written document". For example, a marriage contract is called a ketubah כתובה, where ketubah is derived from the same shoresh as katuv.Consequently, we can see that the odd word in kav 1, translated by Kaplan as "verse", avoids any association with idolatry while it sim

Din Rodef & Negative Mitzvah 310
2006-09-07 21:10:00
I dreamt.I observed namelessly throughout the dream. I was in a mystical school, like a boarding school. There were many students in the background, but my observation focused on the headmaster of the school, the elder female student and two novice students, one male and one female who were "partnered" together in craftwork.Much was going on in hidden places. The novice male student was building a 3-sided mystical poster presentation like one might do for a scientific symposium describing one's research project. The novice female student was writing a research thesis. These two novice students were really kabbalistic scientists [1] as opposed to "mystics" or wonder workers. The elder female student was a witch. She cast an evil eye upon the novice female student. She feared that the novice female student might be competition for her. The headmaster was impressed with the novice students' craftwork. At first I thought she only feared that the novice female student would excellently outd

Lilith, Night Light & Shalom Zachar
2006-08-23 22:24:00
From AskMoses:Several different explanations are offered for the custom of shalom zachar:1) It is a thanksgiving meal. We are offering thanks to G-d that the baby was born safe and sound. Birth (especially in the past) was a very dangerous time for the(mother and) baby, so we thank G-d that the baby survived this ordeal.12) We come to console the child who has just forgotten all the Torah he studied while in his mother's womb (see Niddah 30b). For this reason many people serve beans or chickpeas at the Sholom Zochor, since these are foods served at the house of a mourner.3) According to Kabbalah, a child is not ready to be circumcised until he has gone through a Shabbat, for the Shabbat provides the infant with the spiritual power necessary to enter into a lasting covenant with Hashem. (This is (one of) the inner reasons why the Brit is on the eight day, to ensure that a Shabbat passes). For this reason we make a special celebration on the Shabbat after the baby is born.2 [The advanta

Kol Isha, Kol Itta & Aur Chayah
2006-08-22 22:06:00
At hashkafah.com, Gretchen generally asked the question:Does the issur of kol isha apply to gay men? Many of the responses revolved around the assumption that the prohibition of kol isha (males hearing the voice of a woman) was founded on the idea of the potential of kol isha קול אשה to arouse sexual desire. However, I really don't think this is the case.I think it is more founded on the idea that "all blessings flow from the mothers" (Sefer Yetzirah). In other words, the concern has to do with the mystical power to bless or curse inherent in the "mystical voice-kol קול (which is the aur chayah) of a woman".As I've written previously about the isha/itta distinction; isha אשה is of Canaanite origin and represents a soul level unbound to the mitzvot. Consequently, the mystical "voice" קול of isha אשה can introduce "multiplicity disconnected from its source" (in opposition to unity in multiplicity) into reality. This is what the prohibition of kol isha is trying to avoi

Beyond The Boundaries Of The Universe
2006-08-03 01:13:00
שמע ישראל יי אלהינו יי אחדIn Aramaic, א is a feminine ending, where גמרות is the well-known feminine plural of Aramaic גמרא. The Hebrew root גמר , from which the Hebrew letter-equivalent to the Aramaic word גמרא is derived, implies "end", "conclusion" and "ceasing to exist". In other words, גמר refers to a "boundary of the universe". Likewise, גמרות pertains to all boundaries of the universe (Sefer Yetzirah 5:2), from א to ת. Consequently, the Aramaic word constructs גמרות - גמרא pertain to the feminine experience (one of many unified attributes, ברוך שם כבוד מלכותו לעולם ועד) of going to and beyond the boundaries of the universe into the Infinite One. (This "unified end of ends" I've experienced is described in this poem where all ends cross over into the Infinite One.)Tradition tells us את comes to add, and תא comes to receive it. Similarly to the word גמרא, in Aramaic אתתא means woman. I'

Nadav & Avihu - The Danger Of Conformity
2007-04-13 04:42:00
כ"ה בניסן תשס"זIn this week's parsha (Shmini) we read about the deaths of Nadav (נדב) and Avihu (אביהוא). Most commentaries link the deaths of these two to bringing an unauthorized incense offering. Here's my simple take on it.The name Nadav is from the shoresh נדב meaning "being free and independent", "patron" and "giver". The name Avihu is from the shoresh אבה meaning "submit to an existing demand", "conforming and agreeing to the wishes of others", "acceding to a demand", and "a poor person submitting to a debtor". [1]Clearly then, the relevant relationship between these two emerges. Nadav and Avihu were not equals. One could suggest that Nadav exploited Avihu and Avihu submitted to the exploitation. In other words, Avihu conformed, perhaps even against his own better judgment, to the priestly demand of Nadav. Nadav had the power of money and Avihu lacked the strength to say no to his patron's clearly ill-conceived priestly plan.Taking all this together,

Thunder Struck & Hail Came Down
2007-04-11 23:39:00
כ"ג בניסן תשס"זInteresting, given my dream yesterday morning. A severe thunderstorm has struck the area. In town, the hail fell at least two inches deep. Where I am, there is no hail.I was in town filing an appeal to the decision on the denial of my unemployment benefit, so I saw it with my own eyes. No kidding, as soon as I entered the door to the Illinois state employment security building, just as the door closed behind me, the thunderstorm struck and the hail came tumbling down. As mentioned, in town the hail fell to about two inches deep at least. Thick hail. As I left town after filing the appeal, and came upon the rural road leading to where I am staying, abruptly, there was no more hail. The ground and road were completely clear of it, unlike in town, where it was still pouring down hail. I could observe it in the rearview mirror of my car.Interesting, I think.Technorati tags: Torah Talmud Torah Judaism Kabbalah jewish mysticism mysticism jewish meditation meditation

Jewitch Shabbat Ritual
2007-01-17 09:04:00
Here is the first formal Friday evening shabbat ritual I have written for the solitary Jewitch. It may tweaked and refined as time goes by. This is the basic format from which I will build:1. Take a bath or shower. Visualize washing away physical, emotional and spiritual impurity, letting all negativity flow down the drain with the water. Dress in ritual attire. Put on Jewitch pentacle (pentacle + magen David), saying:Blessed is this Unity. Her Glorious Name is One. So mote it be.2. "Sweep" (counterclockwise-"widdershins" and out) ritual space with besom. Visualize removing all negative energy from it, saying:From this place, I banish all negativity and evil. So mote it be.3. Perform ritual bath. Add herbs and oil of choice [1] to ritual bowl containing warm water.Relax. Breathe. Stand facing north (Gevurah, fire) in front of bath bowl. Purify and consecrate the water mixture, placing tip of athame into the water, saying:Out from you I cast all that is impure and unclean. Blessed are y

Athame Of Iron On The Altar Of The Temple
2007-01-09 23:49:00
The iron blade of a witch's athame upon her altar is a perfect symbol for the rectification of evil and its elevation back into the realm of kedushah (holiness, sacredness). In the Jewish tradition, this rectification and re-elevation is called tikun olam (repair of the world). The iron of knives and swords have historically been used to shorten life, making them typically antithetical for use upon a sacred altar, whose purpose is to enhance and lengthen life. However, in the "future world" (in Hebrew "leatid lavo" לעתיד לבא, a code for the transcendent rectified feminine sefirah Binah and her parzufim), our Sages teach that the Temple will be built using iron. Normally, it is forbidden to use tools of iron to cut stones for the Temple altar.Kabbalistically, iron, one of the seven metals [1] corresponding to the seven mystical attributes of the heart, corresponds to the attribute of Malchut and the element of the heart most "vulnerable to negativity and egocentricity". Kabbalistic Mysteries Of The Incense 1
2007-01-08 10:29:00
In a previous post describing a ritual I've written for Shabbat (on my Craftwork of A Hewitch blog), incorporating into it elements of witchcraft, the blessing over incense is:Blessed is She, Mistress of the mysteries of spices and perfumes, the One over Death, and She who loves me.Ritually, the smoke of incense represents the element of air. Unlike the other elements, in both Celtic witchcraft and Zohar (an ancient kabbalistic text of the Jewish mystical-magickal tradition), the element of air corresponds to the eastern quarter-watchtower. Among the kabbalistic sefirotic correspondences, the east likewise corresponds to the sefirah Tiferet located along the central (air) axis of the sefirotic array. If we look at the 3-letter root TVL (תבל) for the Hebrew word for "spice", tevel (e.g., incense spices used during Temple service), we see a connection to both the transcendant feminine sefirah Binah (Understanding, the Higher Shechinah) operating above the 7 lower sefirot of normal con

On the Idra:The Idra, which means threshing floor in Aramaic, is a Kabbalistic work included in printings of the Zohar. There are actually two texts in Zoharic literature called Idra: the first being the Idra Rabba, or “greater Idra”, and the second being the Idra Zuta, or “lesser Idra”, with these two texts being intimately connected to each other. The story of the Idroth is as follows:Idra Rabba: R. Shim‘on b. Yohai convenes with nine other scholars, and they gather in the sacred אִדְרָא, or threshing field, where they thresh out secrets. Each scholar expounds various configurations of the partsufin, and three of them die in ecstasy while doing so.Idra Zuta: Years later, at RASHB"I’s deathbed, the seven still-living scholars come to his deathbed, along with the whole heavenly host. He alone explains the configurations of the partsufin, so this work is more unified. RASHB"I wavers between this world and the next.Even as Idra Zuta gathers into a more unified prophetic

Beshurei Of The Vineyard Of Yavne
2006-11-14 05:56:00
Another recent repeating dream detail is that of "bleachers". I didn't mention it before, but in the dream about The House On The Corner, right at the very end, as I was awaking, I had the "backvision" (I didn't really "see" it, but I "knew" it) of some "teenage guy" telling my "teenage daughter" (nukvah) under the "bleachers" that he had planned to make her his prisoner but her couldn't since she was already somebody else's prisoner. She stood there and resisted saying anything in response to his taunt."Bleachers" are rows of seats. I've read before about "sitting in rows"- of the vineyard [1]:R. Simeon continues with a description of the situation of the kabbalists: "And they are at the edges (beshulei; or alternatively, beshurei - in the rows) of the vineyard." The expression "the edges of the vineyard" which has no parallel anywhere else, is somewhat obscure. I think the variant reading, "rows", is to be preferred. It alludes more clearly to the gathering at Yavne referred to

Yenon - Enduring Lamednunnik
2006-10-17 05:07:00
ומנלן דהתורה נקראת ברכהSefer HaBahir, verse 3 excerptTraditional interpretation: "How do we know that Torah is called a blessing?"In a previous entry, Evolution Of Da'at Torah, I wrote:Whereas in the root מנה the final letter is hei ה, in the word ומנלן the hei of the root has been replaced with the letters lamed-nun לן.Regarding the form of nun-sofit ן, R' Yitzchak Ginsburgh teaches:The final nun is an extended vav ו descending below the line - the "unbounded servant."Consequently, from this we learn that the suffix lamed-nun לן which shares the "place" of the letter hei ה, is really an "extended" lamed-vav לו. In other words, it is a lamedvavnik taken to the next level [1] of "unboundedness".Unboundedness? I experienced unboundedness once. In 1967. So, the word ומנלן reveals that the feminine hei ה is a lamednunnik לן, whose memory of the matter endures. Hey! this sefer is talkin' to me! if even only to me. Maybe it talks to you too?Fo

A newly created word of (kabbalistic wisdom) ascends and alights on the head of the Everlasting (or, better, the living of the worlds) Righteous One, and flies from there and sails through seventy thousand worlds and ascends to Atik Yomin, and all the words of Atik Yomin are words of wisdom comprising sublime, esoteric mysteries.
