Go Pedal London 2007-03-29 07:19:00 Whilst perusing Europe Travel News today, I learned about Go Pedal
, a London-based service that delivers rental bicycles to hotels. If you want to get around town on your own steam, this relatively new service means you don’t have to go hunting for a bike shop once you arrive. The company also comes and gets the bike(s) when you’re done. Prices start at 32 quid/day for one bike, but go down if you rent for several days or rent multiple bikes. For example, renting two bikes for two days would run you a total of 44 quid. Seems it pays to bike with a buddy.

(AP) 2007-03-30 16:52:13 AP - At Joe’s Pond, they put a 65-pound cinder block on the ice and tie it to an old-fashioned alarm clock on the deck of Homer Fitts’ cottage, 200 feet away. When the block falls through, the string tugs on the clock and stops it.

Travel Spotlight - Spa Resorts 2007-03-30 16:47:37 You’ve only been out of the office for an hour and you’ve got 32 unopened emails and eight phone messages. You’re daughters school play is tonight but it clashes with the industry event your boss says you absolutely must attend and you still haven’t done the grocery shopping for your in-laws visit. Egypt - Haggling for Bargains 2007-03-30 16:23:34 Bargaining for goods and services is customary in Egypt
and many visitors relish negotiating for that elusive “best” price. But for those unused to the concept, haggling can seem daunting. Securing the “right” price, even for Egyptians, is an acquired skill that takes practice, patience and above all a sense of humour.

The Journal of a Gardener in Tuscany - March 2004 Part I 2007-04-01 07:17:25 The Iris Season
March
13th 2004 ? It seems that every wall, every verge and every garden in Tuscany
grows Iris bulbs and they are now growing frantically, long green blades like tropical grass, ready to spring a colour on us, are everywhere. I hardly noticed these lovely flowers until I first went to Italy, but here they are everywhere and the road to Florence is lined with walls, pots and flowerbeds sporting Irises. The longer days, and some warm weather this week, means spring has finally appeared and has some catching up to do.
The locals here still say this has been the hardest winter in Tuscany for some twenty years, and this follows the hottest summer in closer to half a century. The last snow has left La Doccia and is only visible higher up the mountain near Vallombrosa Monastery, the weather seems to follow consistent three day patterns during the spring, 3 good days are followed by 3 bad days. The bad days mean snow, fog and rain but the good days, although frosty in the mo Read more:Journal
