VOTE!
2008-09-05 11:56:05
One thing I just wanted to stress to everyone out there is to exercise their right to vote. It cracks me up when I hear people complain about our government or their local government and yet they never voted in their life...if you don't vote...you don't have the right to complain in my opinion. Whatever your affiliation Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green Party, etc...no voted is wasted in

Charleston Gun Show And Huricane Update
2008-09-05 10:54:42
Well, I was planning on going to the gun show this weekend and pick myself an AK-47 of some type. Guess that will have to wait...I would imagine the show will be cancelled with Hannah approaching. All my preps are done... I have full gas tank and spare gas cans. Generator tested and working. All my outside "stuff" is in the garage (which has a reinforced door by the way). We have plenty of food a

Book Review: The Road
2008-09-03 20:12:37
Last weekend while camping I had the opportunity to read some fiction and selected The Road  by Cormac McCarthy to read. I was sitting round the camper in the early mornings when I wasn't fishing and read this novel. I am a fast reader and I devoured this one in about three hours total and I will spoil the review by telling you up front that this was an amazing book. I am thoroughly look

Hannah...
2008-09-02 19:04:32
Well back from camping...just in the time for a possible smack from a hurricane. Tropical Storm Hannah is making it way towards the US and projected tracks have it hitting land from northern Florida right to my back door in the Charleston area. People are already freaking out. The wife and I went to Wal-Mart to do grocery shopping because we have been away at the campground. Sheesh...people clean

Be Prepared: Tornados
2008-08-29 07:00:01
Tornados just may be one of the most destructive forces on Earth. They strike with little warning and can cause catastrophic damage due to high winds and more importantly the debris contained within the storm. A tornado is a rotating column of air that extends down from a storm system and touches the ground. They are a beautiful thing to see, which is ironic due to the devastation and fear they c

Book Review: The Modern Survival Retreat
2008-08-27 06:53:31
The Modern Survival Retreat by Ragnar Benson is next up for review. Yeah I know I just seem to love old Ragnar. I can't help it, most people just don't write as honestly as Ragnar Benson. He tells it the way he believes it to be and in many ways he is the quintessential survival writer. This book is just what the title gives it away to be Ragnar's tips and tricks on establishing a full-fledge

I honor of this 100th post I thought I would share a little bit about myself and how I got wrapped up in the whole survival business. Blogging is a bit of a cleansing experience for me. I have always enjoyed writing but could never get m

Movie Review: Rescue Dawn
2008-10-03 12:56:39
I sat down last weekend with the wife and we put in the next movie I am reviewing: Rescue Dawn. The movie stars one of my favorite actors out there right now Christian Bale. He has been in TONS of great movies including American Psyho (GREAT), Equilibrium, Batman Returns, Reign of Fire, The Machinist (GREAT). He is just such a versatile actor it is scary. The movie is not one of his best but he d

Friday Humor
2008-10-03 10:32:16
Humor is by far the best way to deal with stress. Laughing always makes a person feel better and it is quite healthy. Someone passed this along to me, I found it amusing (Lawyers please refrain from sending hate mail to me). Generous lawyer A local United Way office realized that the organization had never received a donation from the town's most successful lawyer. The person in charge of con

Survival Guns On The Cheap
2008-10-02 06:00:02
Well everyone and their brother has an opinion on the best guns for a post apocalyptic world (PAW). You know what they say about opinions so I just felt I have to throw mine into the ring. Now keep in mind that this is "on the cheap" and is also "my opinion". Let me preface this by saying if you haven't taken advantage of the FFL C&R yet you are foolish. It is easy to get (if you aren't a crimina

Book Review: Sprouts, The Miracle Food
2008-10-01 10:22:17
I often get asked what books I would recommend to advanced preppers so they can skip the basics which they know and move on to more advanced stuff. Well folks I have one for you called Sprouts The Miracle Food: The Complete Guide to Sprouting by Steve Meyerowitz. If you are advanced in your food program to the point where you are looking at finding sources of information to supplement your current

How To Survive Marriage
2008-09-30 22:22:21
It is funny and every married man can tell you this; once we announce to folks our intention to get married...the inevitable response from most married males is "don't do it", "run while you still can!" etc. I, like most "about to" get married males, laughed it off as a joke. Unfortunately the joke is on you, because they ARE NOT joking. Listen I LOVE my wife and would not change anything at this

15 More Simple Ways To Save Money
2008-09-29 06:00:02
In my continuing quest to provide you with info on saving money I am constantly trying to come up with simple ways to save cold hard cash. I figured I would examine my own life and household to see what my wife and I have done to cut down on some of the expenses. 1.) You can laugh but we reuse Ziploc bags. The ONLY time we throw them away is if we store RAW meat in them. It is probably not a good

Weekend Roundup: Changing up the format of the weekend roundup folks...this will be the 10th edition and I need to inject some new blood into the mix. I have been hanging in there but I won't lie it has been tough. Thank t

Movie Review: Right At Your Door
2008-09-26 06:00:02
Next up in the movie review department at Be A Survivor is Right at Your Door. The wife and I watched this one over the weekend, I believe Netflix recommended this one to me based on previous movies I have rated. The Humble Hammock
2008-09-25 06:00:03
One thing I have always wanted to get my hands on is a hammock/shelter. The hammock has many advantages. It is way more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. The hammock is super light which is very important when hiking and carrying everything you need in your pack. The Hammock eliminates the need to carry: 1.) Tent 2.) Sleeping pad 3.) In warm weather you could conceivably ditch the sleeping

Be Prepared: Potassium Iodide (KI)
2008-09-24 06:00:04
I am not a chemist or a physician so this will be strictly the basics... One of the nasty things about radiation is the effects it has on the thyroid system. If you are exposed to large doses of radiation it saturates your thyroid glands with radioactive iodine (radioiodine) and will most certainly cause cancer. The idea is to saturate your thyroid glands with Potassium Iodine (which is inert);

Book Review: How To Survive Anything, Anywhere
2008-09-23 06:00:03
I think I have found the perfect "catch all" type survival book for beginners. The book is called How to Survive Anything, Anywhere . I especially like the text in the yellow balloon on the cover...snicker. The book was written by Dr. Chris McNab who is the author of "Endurance Techniques (SAS Training Manual)", "Elite Forces Survival Guide", "Living Off the Land", "Martial Arts for Special Forces"

Sheesh!

Honestly folks I really don't want to offend anyone but I have basically stopped reading most of the survival blogs at this point. Listen nothing against political, anti-government rants but sheesh call a spade a spade...you are not really a survival blog if you don't provide any useful survival information other than: "We're screwed" "Fuck the government" "The world is ending" "The SHTF!" Keep On Preppin
2008-09-18 12:28:06
Lately, I have been a bit lazy with the preps but I have started getting my butt in gear. Some of the things I have done in recent weeks: Picked up a Yugo M70 under folder (AK-47) from the Charleston Gun Show. Brought 3 additional 30 round mags for the AK from Southern Ohio Guns. Sighted in my 10/22 and Barska scope at the range. Rotated out all my water that I have stored in 7 gallon Jerry Ca
