Woman 1:  (staring) Are those designer prescriptive glasses? Me: No Woman 2: (smiling) Woman 1: Oh, they look like, oh who’s that designer? Woman 2: Oh yeah, umm… Me: Oh really? Well they’re not. I have cancer, and these goggles protect my eyes from my treatments. Woman 1 & 2: (in unison) Oh, ok…. Woman 1 & 2 now turn their backs [...]

Day One: The Beginning
2008-06-23 13:20:19
Today is “DAY 1″ of my PUVA photochemotherapy.  It’s a strange place to be - you see I have cancer.   The word “cancer” hasn’t quite set within me.  Here’s my story, how I ended up here….. For those who know me, I’m a shop-a-holic, I’ve got to have the latest trend.  I read Harper’s Bizarre, Allure, [...]

List of Useful Things
2008-07-05 08:37:45
As of late I have found several things that have been useful since being diagnosed with cutaneous t-cell lymphoma (mycosis fungiodes) — or simply put cancer! My hope is that you too will find these useful for you or someone you know who is battling cancer.  As I have good success with things that workfor me, [...]

Vanity
2008-06-28 16:47:41
Definition:  Excessive pride in one’s appearance. 25% of my body is covered in white (I’m African American), these areas are my face, neck, chest, arms, legs, and back.  I’ve always taken great pride in how I looked.  This is not like a zit I can put Clearasil on, and make up to cover it.  In fact, [...]

Today marked my third day in treatment - I made it through the week.  My mood, I think, is improving.  I get it, I can’t fight the truth, cancer is a part of my life.  The treatment room is full of others dealing with various illnesses, I don’t feel so alone anymore. Various side effects still [...]

Hey You!
2008-06-25 20:17:16
Now that I got your attention, let me set the record straight, I have a form of non-hodgkins lymphoma.  Non-hodgkins lymphoma is a type of cancer that arises from white blood cells.  White blood cells are part of the immune system that protects the body from infection and disease.  My particular form of non-hodgkins lymphoma [...]

Day Two: Psoralen
2008-06-25 18:03:31
So I’m taking this drug 1 hour prior to my treatment.  I have searched and searched to learn more about the side effects (long and short term), but have found nothing.  All I know is what the pharmacists said, which is what the bottle says, “nausea”.  Ok, like come on there have to be more. Today [...]

Good Reads
2008-07-20 17:05:03
Just in from the bookstore, and found 2 great books that deal with cancer and nutrition.  I have been contemplating lately about changing a lot of things about my diet, but I’m not sure which way to go.  These are pretty good guides.  Seems one of the main points is eating food in its most [...]

2008-07-13 08:54:50
Phew - I found the pharmacy name of the drug I take for photochemotherapy.  I am soo happy.  I was getting real worried that I had become a pink bunny…..  It’s called Oxsoralen.  Of course I have been doing a lot of reading on the drug, and now I understand why I have been plagued [...]

Blingomatic Baby
2008-07-09 17:00:55
I am sooo excited! A friend of mine gave me the best gift today - “bling“, for my puva goggles. I’ve blinged them up - see new header !

Ouch - my head hurts
2008-07-08 21:22:23
Terribly sensitive to sunlight - my skin and eyes (due to the photochemotherapy).  If I go outside without my goggles, oh what a headache I get. Agh, I feel one coming on now - !  Agh!

Riding a Roller Coaster
2008-08-13 22:37:21
Last summer my husband and middle son rode the Batman’s Batwing coaster at Six Flags, talk about an exhilarating experience of free flight.  I hadn’t ridden a roller coaster since my high school years (22 years ago to be exact), so I was a bit apprehensive at first, but once the ride got really started [...]

People say cancer can change your perspective on things, that seems to be true with me. It’s hard for me to express in words right now the growth I seem to be experiencing. However, when last my family went [...]
