Formula 1 - Last chance for 2007 season preview 2007-03-15 06:03:00 The season officially starts tomorrow with free practice in Australia, so let's do some summary of what we know and what I expect. We know what the cars are going to look like – here can see each teams’ 2007 F1 livery, including the newly launched Super Aguri SA07We know how will the helmets look like – here are all the F1 race driver 2007 helmets. We know what some of the test drivers’ helmets will look like.We can expect Ferrari, McLaren to lead pack, Renault and BMW chasing them. Williams should be better than last year, Honda will be better than they look now. Toyota will struggle. Super Aguri will move up to the middle of the pack. Red Bull and Toro Rosso will not be anything special and will continue to draw more attention off the track. Hopefully they will not force DC to be a Superman again. I would expect the constructors championship to go to Ferrari, second to McLaren. Third place will be decided between Renault, BMW and Honda. The rest will form the midfield and Spy Read more:Formula

Formula 1 - Last Week in F1 ... (March 13, 2007) 2007-03-13 05:49:00 It looks like a bit of silence before the big Australian storm :-) But still here is the round up.David Richards bought himself Aston Martin but denied any link between this acquisition and his F1 team. Makes sense though as the only way he plans to enter F1 next year is with customer chassis from existing F1 manufacturer. And why would any of the car companies currently involved in F1 want to promote Aston Martin …Peter Sauber regrets his decision to hire Jacques Villeneuve in 2005 and reveals David Coulthard offered himself after loosing McLaren seat.Bernie would like to change the point system to give more reward for winning races instead of for finishing consistently second.Mario Thiessen is happy for Williams.Renault people think Melbourne win is out of reach.Button will not miss Michael Schumacher. Michael in turn could buy a team but the one being talked about is not for sale. This story seems to be just a lot of crap but people have to talk about something when nothing else Read more:Formula

In the wet, a driver has a total of seven sets of tyres available - four wet-weather and three extreme-weather. - The two Friday practice sessions - one in the morning and one in the afternoon - have been extended from 60 minutes to 90. The teams can send out a maximum of two cars for each session, and they must be driven by either the two race drivers or by a nominated test driver. The identity of the drivers must be announced by 4pm the previous day. - The engines must still cover two race weekends, but this only applies to the Saturday and Sunday. Prodrive to win bid for Aston Martin 2007-03-08 15:32:00 It is understood that Prodrive
, set to be F1's twelfth team in 2008, has been successful in its recently reported bid to buy AstonMartin
.Backed by US and Middle East investors, Warwickshire based Prodrive's boss David Richards led a consortium that reportedly bid an estimated $900 million to buy the English car manufacturer from Ford. The ultimate price may have increased to as much as (US) $965 million, with a deal set to be announced on Friday at the Geneva auto show.Prodrive declined to comment, but Ford may have favoured Prodrive's offer because the company already runs Aston Martin's racing programme for sports cars.Aston Martin raced eleven times in F1 in 1959-60.Source: dailyf1news.com
Last Week in F1 ... (March 8, 2007) 2007-03-08 05:30:00 After short holiday break here is a review of a bit more than a week in F1Honda confirmed their new myearthdream livery, I pledged to recycle paper and placed my name on the car.Winter testing season is over. Ferrari and especially Massa show promising form before new season. McLaren is not too far behind. Then there is a gap but on a race day it may be smaller than it looks now. Renault, BMW, Honda kept trading places on the time sheets. Toyota is very disappointing and Ralf made it clear he is not happy with their "catastrophic preparation for this season". Toro Rosso seems to be on par or even better at times than Red Bull. Super Aguri delayed the launch of their new car so their testing form does not reveal that much. Williams is a bit of unknown as they tested elsewhere and only compared with Spyker, but there is probably some reason for optimism.Spyker made some amends to their livery.Massa is being tipped for the title by Bernie, Kimi (as of today) by readers of this blog. All 2 Read more:March

It is for real ... Honda goes green without sponsors 2007-02-26 10:08:00 RA107 in 2007 livery. The philosophy of supporting Honda
's green direction with donations to enviromental charities through myearthdream.com is pretty much in line with rumours that started to circulate several months ago when Simon Fuller joined the team. Not that much in line with the way the teams use their liveries to make money... Sure they are going to be different.
Last Week in F1 ... (February 26, 2007) 2007-02-26 01:51:00 Renault left the GPMA means basically nothing but it happened.Rumours circulated that McLaren shareholders Dennis and Ojjeh want to sell rest of their shares. Dennis or both of them may be planning to buy Prodrive F1 operation from David Richards and get the chassis and engines supplied from Benz. However there are also rumours David Richards plans to buy Aston Martin from Ford and bring the brand to F1 when his Prodrive enters next year.Finishing this off - Porsche does not plan to enter F1, they are happy as they are.We had testing going on in Valencia and Bahrain.Valencia - Williams usually faster than Spyker except for Narain Karthikeyan's rides. Spyker ran their new car F8-VII for the first time. All the other teams tested in Bahrain.Bahrain - Everyday brought different story, but generally can say Ferrari and McLaren continue to show they plan to have a good season. BMW's fast pace is no longer a surprise. Honda made step forward and finally found some speed. Toyota is bad bad Read more:February

2007 Formula 1 Drivers And Teams 2007-02-20 19:27:00 McLarenFernando Alonso – Do not like him that much, but have to give it to him. Champ twice in the Schumi era. McLaren does not look too bad so far, so he may have a shot at the third one.Lewis Hamilton – Rookie rookie rookie … Good to see young blood in the top team.Car - Looks great and fast as always and reliable (unlike in recent years). Should be back in fight for both championships.RenaultGiancarlo Fisichella – Won few races but never really matched Alonso. Will not be easy for him with a rookie as a team mate. This may be his last season if he does not pull off something big.Heikki Kovalainen – Another rookie in a top team. I would not be surprised if he outperforms Fisi in the course of the season.Car - Seems to be a bit behind the pace setters at the moment.FerrariKimi Raikkonen – He is quick, he is fun (after his post race interviews) and now he may get some reliable equipment finally …Felipe Massa – He needs to beat Kimi early in the seaso Read more:Formula

Formula 1 - Australian Grand Prix 2nd Practice 2007-03-16 05:39:00 Massa setting the pace, Kimi seems to be hiding his true speed, still setting 2nd fastest time. Not sure what Alonso was working on, he should not be slower than Fisichella. Fisichella probably surprised even himself, especially with the fastest first sector. Worry for Reanult though - both their cars suffered some mechanical problems. BMWs are as quick as the winter tets were promising. Both Williams cars did pretty well. Congratualtions to Super Aguri - Davidson fastest of all 4 Honda powered cars. All 4 cars with customer Ferrari engines are at the tail of the order. - AustralianGrand

Formula 1 - Australian Grand Prix Results 2007-03-18 12:14:00 Kimi wins on his Ferrari debut. Lewis Hamilton drove excellent F1 debut race. After great start he kept Alonso behind him and lost 2nd place only through some bad luck with traffic before his second pit stop. Massa gambled on 1 stop strategy and finished 6th after starting from 22nd. Heidfeld came home 4th. Sixth Fisichella did probably all that he could with the car he had. Both Williams and Toyota must be happy with points in bag.Scary moment 10 laps from finish. Coulthard took off after hitting Wurz and flew over the Williams barely missing Wurz's head ...1 K.
