He had never climbed a Munro before. When he reached the summit he seemed excited like a child and mesmerised by what he saw. This is the summit of Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan, a mountain regarded as the fourth most difficult Scottish Munro to climb given its remote position and altitude. We had set off that morning from the eastern shore of Loch Affric and spent most of the morning and afternoon w

Affric

We were walking on the path along Loch Affric looking for a place to camp. However the path is separated from the shore by dense vegetation and woodland. We waded into the vegetation until we reached a clearing in the wood by the shore. There we set up our tents and built a fire. There was plenty of fallen wood. That evening we ate Haggis and drank rum and whisky.

Every August Edinburgh’s High Street is used for street performances as part of the Edinburgh Festival. There are musicians and actors and people who swallow swords. I once saw a man intentionally dislocate his arm so that he could fit himself through a tennis racket.

Summit

The weather had changed dramatically in the moments preceding this shot. That morning we had climbed Stob Ban in clear weather with good visibility. As we ascended the Grey Corries it started to snow and the visibility dropped. There was deep snow along the ridge to Stob Coire an Laoigh so we dug a small hole and had lunch.

Lairig Leacach
2008-05-20 09:21:00
One Thursday in February we left work in Edinburgh and drove north until we reached Roybridge. We arrived just before 10pm and started a 2 hour walk to the Lairig Leacach bothy that sits at the foot of Stob Ban. On previous night walks we had to use a headtorch due to poor light. On this occasion, moonlight reflected off the snow covered mountains that lined the valley and illuminated our way.
