Sicko, Michael Moore's new movie 2006-09-12 20:57:19 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
MichaelMoore
is doing a new moive called Sicko
about the problem with medicine in the US. As a conservative, I'm no fan of Michael Moore
at all. But as an avid reader of all things alternative health, I think he's tackling a subject that needs a billion-candle spotlight pointed on it.
Sadly, because it's Michael Moore doing this film, most if not all from the Right will automatically discredit HUGE problems that do exist in the NIH, CDC, FDA, Big Pharma, et al because of patent law, rules for "health claims", conflicts of interest, shareholder value, hidden bias, and status quo.
If Hippocrates said, "Let food be your medicine," would that make, "The wrong food is your poison" true?

A new low in Autism/Mercury debates? 2006-09-09 02:11:15 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
Has YouTube allowed us to reach a new low in the autism/mercury debate?
Kevin Leitch, who I have verbally sparred with from time to time but generally consider to be a good chap, has posted a video on YouTube that reminds me of a political campaign commercial. You know the ones that we all hate? Where politicians use out of context quotes, make ridiculous assumptions, all against a backdrop of "uglifying" special effects and ominous background music to smear their opponents and scare voters into voting for Mr. Sunshine. 96% of Amercians hate these ads*, so much so that Congress enacted (stupid) legislation to restrict free speech. Not that that has cleaned up political campaigns.
I'm saddened that we come down to a sound bite war, but it always does. And I'm sure we'll start seeing "political ads" coming from my side of the river soon enough. Too bad.
In fairness Kev, your first video post was a really touching and positive video abou Read more:Autism

advisers reject
federal report, say more study is needed
Updated: 4:55 p.m. MT Sept 7, 2006
WASHINGTON - Government health advisers rejected a federal report that concluded dental fillings used by millions of patients are safe, saying further study of the mercury-laden amalgam is needed.
A joint panel of Food and Drug Administration advisers did not declare the so-called "silver fillings" unsafe. But in a 13-7 vote Thursday, the advisers said the federal report didn't objectively and clearly present the current state of knowledge about the fillings.
In a second 13-7 vote, the panelists said the report's conclusions about safety weren't reasonable, given the quantity and quality of information currently available. This news even made Brian Williams' Nightly News cast, which is fantastic! Do you remember? It's been five years since the brutal terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Many seem to have forgotten the evil these terrorists have waged on our country throughout the past decade, including September 11, the first World Trade Center bombing and the USS Cole. We must remember why we are fighting these terrorists.
This week Progress For America launched an issue campaign that places a sharp focus on the War on Terror. Never forget why we are fighting this important war. Never forget the evil terrorists have waged on Americans.

Connie
emailed Pat and said some very nice things about Pat's book, Wellness Piece by Piece. I asked if Connie wouldn't mind writing a review. Here's what she posted on Amazon.com.I have been on a journey to uncover the secrets behind my chronic
illness for many years and it wasn't until I discovered Pat Sullivan's

The Path to 9/11 (UPDATED) 2006-09-07 10:33:15 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
The Path to 9/11 looks like it's going to be rather interesting. Plus, how can you not like Harvey Keitel? :)
UPDATE: I can't believe all the whining coming from Democrats today. Chuck Shumer said, "You can't take a film that is supposed to report on something that is so real and so close and make it into fiction. That's beneath ABC's dignity." Harry Reid said, "It will be a gross miscarriage of ABC's corporate and civic responsibilites if they go forward with this movie."
Are you kidding me?? Did any of these guys say anything remotely close to this about Michael Moore and Farenheit 911? OF COURSE NOT! This free speech should not be defended since it isn't child pornography. The hypocrisy is disgusting.
Frankly, I think their childish actions are only going to help the ratings for Path to 9/11 and make people watch more closely for the scenes in question. But it sounds like if these guys would have all kept their mouth shut, no
WTC Volunteers are sick 2006-09-07 09:12:10 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
Living & Laughing with Chronic Illness points to a story about World Trade Center volunteers who arrived on the scene for rescue and clean-up are now "conclusively...chronically sick...because of their exposure to asbestos, pulverized concrete, mercury and toxins..." (Emphasis mine.)
I left the following comment: I heard about this story today on the radio. I fear that New Orleans volunteers will/are having similar issues with mold toxicity, the consequences of which are only just beginning to be understood.
Also, I find it interesting that mercury is specifically named in the list of toxins. Asbestos makes sense, but how was there any sort of concentration of mercury in the building? And juxtapose a report like this that specifically names mercury as a cause of chronic sickness against the FDA declaring that mercury in your mouth is safe. MAKES NO SENSE! Read more:Volunteers
Autism, a chemical connection? 2006-09-07 08:16:19 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
Those of you keeping up with Wade Rankin's blog will no doubt have read some of the latest news on the autism front. This led me to check out what Dan Olmsted was up to in his Age of Autism
series. From Something Wicked -- 2:WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- The idea of a "chemicalconnection
" in many cases of autism arose during the 1970s and 1980s, then gave way to gene-based theories. But the time has come to revive it.
The last column highlighted a study by Thomas Felicetti, now executive director of Beechwood Rehabilitation Services in Langhorne, Pa. As Felicetti described it in the journal Milieu Therapy in 1981, he compared the occupations of 20 parents of autistic children, 20 parents of retarded children and 20 parents of "normal" children who were friends and neighbors of those attending the Avalon School in Massachusetts where he taught at the time.
"The results did, in fact, suggest a chemical connection," he wrote. "Eight of the 37 known p
"FDA says mercury amalgams aren't harmful" 2006-09-05 19:32:04 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
It appears as though the fix is in over at the FDA, but advocates from across the country are still going to give their best shot for making a change. From MSNBC.com, "The science is over. There is no safe level of exposure," said Charles Brown, a lawyer for one of the groups, Consumers for Dental Choice. "The only thing standing between this and a ban is politics. They are still pretending it is a scientific question, but it isn't."I know Charles Brown personally. He's done amazing things for this movement against incredible odds. Universal Healthcare (Updated) 2006-09-01 09:48:00 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
This post on NewsTarget.com today about yet more troubles at the FDA -- and the fact that I had been thinking about this for a few days -- prompted me to post the following comment. The post is all about how the FDA is driving the healthcare of our nation off a cliff. My comment:Not to get Left vs. Right political here, but don't Dems realize that universal healthcare coverage for all Americans is something that Big Pharma -- who Dems despise -- would absolutely love!! Universal
healthcare would only mean more drugs and needless surgeries for all Americans.
Conversely, wouldn't healthcare coverage limited to catastrophic events (car wreck, etc.) FORCE people to find cost-effective solutions to their health problems? And having to pay their own money to fix their own problems, wouldn't those people turn to the internet and find great websites like NewsTarget.com, Mercola.com, etc?

The Chelation Kid Cartoon 2006-08-23 02:50:20 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
A quick trip over to Wade's Injecting Sense blog led to a post about a new hero in the autism community, The Chelation Kid.
Wade gives a much better explanation of the ramifications of cartooning in the not-so-cordial world of autism debaters. I don't know about anyone else, but episode 27 with the kid spitting fish oil into his dad's face gave me quite the laugh.
Btw, I'm taking advantage of their toon-cast feature, which means the

EverydaySystems.com is awesome 2006-08-23 02:28:01 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
I was listening to a podcast of Fat Guy Gets Thin now Health Hacks Podcast, and Reinhert came on talking about the site that he runs called EverydaySystems.com. Interesting sounding name, so I checked it out. After clicking around on a few pages, I read the following. It's a quote came UrbanRanger.com, one of the sub-sites of EverydaySystems. Exertion vs. Exercise
It's idiotic. We've invented one class of machine to spare us physical exertion, and another class of machine to inflict it back on us again, but in an infinitely more boring, painful, and useless manner. We view it as the triumph of our age that work no longer means labor, that we can burn fossil fuel instead of living muscle. And yet we berate ourselves that we do not labor in our leisure time, that we do not spend our freed hours in the gym, that torture chamber that is only possible because the automobile and the escalator have saved us so much labor that the surfeit is killing u Read more:awesome
InfomercialScams.com - Don't let me end up here! 2006-08-22 17:45:44 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
I mentioned yesterday that we're considering doing some marketing/advertising for Jigsaw Magnesium w/SRT via infomercials. Personally, I've never bought anything from an infomercial. I think they promise so much that it's impossible to over-deliver! And getting more/better/cooler than what you hoped for from a truly great product is what delights customers enough to tell their friends. (From Seth Godin: "I'm afraid we come back to something that marketers have been struggling with for a really long time--the best way to succeed is to have a really great product." Amen to that says I!)
If we do infomercials for Jigsaw Magnesium, I honestly would never expect to end up at InfomercialScams.com because I truly believe our product is that good. (Truth be told, I do expect that we'll end up here eventually, but only because the boundaries of DSHEA are so blurry and try as we might -- including passing everything we do through an expensive regula

Dr. Hotze is also fortunate enough to have several additional writers help him out, including Dr. Carolyn Dean, who wrote this post about The Miracle of Magnesium.
Side Note: Pat and I haven't been blogging much over the last few months because we've both been busy re-jiggering our outbound marketing campaigns to focus on one of our products that we want to make into a star: Jigsaw Magnesium w/SRT. You see, everyone knows about calcium, but almost no one knows about magnesium. Jigsaw Magnesium just happens to be one of our best-sellers with a fantastic repurchase rate. The biggest reason for this? It doesn't cause the laxative effect common with almost all other magnesium supplements. The reason? Sustained release delivery of Mg and the form of magnesium, dimagnesium malate.
Pat has emailed with Dr. Dean who's busy trying to meet a deadline for a new

This is a sidenote to the post I just wrote, Does TD-DMPS trans
the dermal? It seemed more appropriate as it's own post.
Pramila's summary of the recent DAN! conference is a very informative. Interestingly, it read to me so much like a mixture of Pat's book and the Jigsaw Health product catalog, which are not at all focused on autism, but rather the web of chronic health conditions that closely parallels autism.
Now, I have been very, VERY careful not to ever advertise Jigsaw products to the autism community because I felt like it would give my opponents the ability to marginalize my arguments. But I was shocked to see that we carry nearly every product Pramila listed.
From B12 to Fish Oil to Flax to Probiotics to Olive Leaf Extract to Magnesium to Antioxidants etc. etc. etc. And they are all the best possible forms of these products because they needed to be that way because Pat wanted them for his own use.

Here's a really touching story on ImmuneSupport.com about Rik Carlson
, a Chronic FatigueSyndrome
Patient and 10-Year President of the Vermont CFIDS Association.
A few lines that stood out to me:I am President of the Vermont CFIDS Association, almost 10 years now, and I have been at the receiving end of an 800 number. Patients form support groups when conventional medicine fails. There's nowhere else to turn, but to find others. No one wants to do this, and to even imagine a group of CFIDS patients as "activists" is absurd. I have taken hundreds of calls - and over and over again I hear the same thing. "Do you know a good doctor? My doctor doesn't believe this to be real"...
You can't imagine what it's like to be so ill that you can barely stand, filling out a new-patient form in a doctor's office, and when you get to the part about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, watching the eyes roll at the other end. When that scene is repeated to

Excitotoxins and Dr. Blaylock 2006-10-27 01:49:39 One of my readers just asked if I had read "Excitotoxins - The Taste That Kills" by Russell L. Blaylock MD. I realized that I have not really talked about this here on this site.
I am a big fan of Dr. Blaylock's. I had the privilege to have had dinner with him a month or so ago. He is as nice as he is smart. He is a neurosurgeon who has been "into" using nutrition for his entire career. He shared a number of amazing stories about how he used nutrition in surgical and traumatic instances. He said that his first step was always to fill the patient up with as much Magnesium as he could. Magnesium is a tremendous neuroprotective agent.
He is at the forefront of warning people against the use of mercury, aspartame, msg and other common toxins we are exposed to. Here is his website where you can get his newsletter and his past reports. Great stuff.
I highly recommend his book
CT Scans cause cancer? 2006-10-26 23:26:10 I have heard this before but have never seen it admitted in a fairly prestigious magazine. In this case, Medscape Today from WebMD.
This especially grabbed me :
"CT scans use multiple x-rays to create three-dimensional images that are
diagnostically useful but expose people to far more radiation than conventional
x-rays. In fact, one CT scan exposes a patient to the lower range of radiation
received by some Nagasaki bombing survivors."
You catch that? One scan equals the amount some Nagasaki survivors were exposed to? Truly amazing. Do doctors TELL you this information? NOPE!!! The article continues:
"Up to one in a thousand patients will develop cancer from this
exposure.[2] Sixty million CT scans a year will thus cause cancer in
thousands of people. Yet most consent forms are silent about this."
You would think they would at least tell us! The issue is that the doctors probably are not aware of this themselves. They will tell you, "Oh, it has been proven to be per

The "conservative therapy" for osteoarthritis 2006-10-26 06:36:02 (Posted by Patrick Sullivan Jr.)
I happened across this A.D.A.M illustration of a knee with osteoarthritis.
The most common cause of knee
damage requiring knee replacement is osteoarthritis, which is a
degenerative disease of the bones of the knee which cause the surfaces
of the knee joint to become irregular and rough, preventing smooth
painless motion of the knee joint.
Knee joint replacement may be recommended for:
knee
osteoarthritis or arthritis, which causes knee pain that has failed to
respond to conservative
therapy (NSAID medication for 6 months or more) [emphasis mine]
decreased knee function caused by arthritis
inability to work because of knee pain
inability to sleep through the night because of knee pain
inability to walk more than 3 blocks because of knee pain
loose knee prosthesis
some knee fractures
So "conservative therapy" is pain management through NSAIDs for 6 months? How is pain management supposed to make the problem better?
What about taking so
