La Vieille Ferme, rosé 2005
2006-05-05 22:09:00
Summer is at the door (in this hemipshere) and what better wine to enjoy as an appetizer on the terrasse than a fine rosé. La Vieille Ferme is a Côtes-du-Ventoux appellation located on the Mount Ventoux where it benefits from the regular sunning of Provence to produce fruity and fresh wines in their youth. The climate fresher than that of the Côtes du Rhone involves a later maturation and thus a smaller alcoholic strength. It is what makes this rosé extremely successful in its 2005 vintage with its constant rosy color and its aromatic and inviting nose of strawberries, raspberries and flowers. La Vieille Ferme is a refreshing wine gorged with fruits, round and generous. Surely one of the good quality-price ratio into rosé this year. Serve it at 12 °C with spaghetti primavera, porks kebabs, smoked salmon rolls and goat's milk cheese, strawberry salad or a lobster foam with red peppers.

Vinho regional Alentejano Cortes de Cima 2002
2006-04-14 04:31:00
Here's a new arrival from Portugal that I saw this week and it tasted so good that I thought I would share it with you even if it is a little bit more expensive than usual. Tasty, fruity and generous, it leaves finally notes of maple spices and wood. Yes wood... I can taste wood ;-)) This wine is very good with lamb. Try it.

Cork or twist?
2006-03-17 15:43:00
Just recently, this wasn't even a possible question in the world of wine. Let's admit it, we always (well at least I did) associated twist caps with cheap wines. A 'real' wine must have a cork on top. Right? So how come we see an increasing number of good bottles with twist caps in the stores? A couple of weeks ago, producer Michel Laroche, based in Chablis, announced that all of his wines sold in Quebec at the SAQ will have the twist cap. And when he says 'all of them' he also means his prestigious Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 'Réserve de l'Obédience'. I heard that 5% of wines are 'corked' which means that they have this awful smell of wet cardboard. Honestly, I never encountered any corked wine... and I drank a lot of wine so far ;-) Does that mean that the twist cap crimped inside a polyethylene joint is THE solution? No, says Paul Kreider, the owner and winemaker of the Ross Valley Winery in San Anselmo, California. Kreider believes, in an article entitled Corks for wi

Hoya de Cadenas Tempranillo 2001
2006-02-22 16:47:00
Here's a wine that I just discovered. It is not new but for one reason or another, I never had the opportunity to taste it. This spanish red wine fits right in my 'not expensive tasty wines' category. It is a Uquile-Requena appellation with 100% tempranillo. It drinks very easily with its taste of ripe cherry.

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet 2002
2006-01-29 04:50:00
This one is a bit more expensive than what I usually propose to you. But it was in sale so I took the occasion to buy a couple of them ;-))) This Australian wine is simply incredible. A full mouth of fresh fruits with a little taste of wood. One of the best wine I ever tasted. Highly recommended. The 2002 vintage is ready to drink but can also be kept for another 2 or 3 years.

A Guide to Wine Racks
2006-01-06 21:55:00
It is a cliché that wines get better with age. How a wine ages will depend on how the wine is stored. Wine racks are a simple way to store unopened wines for the short-term. Never put the wine rack on top of the refrigerator. All wines should be stored someplace cool. Find a spot in your house that stays about the same cool temperature year-round. The basement, so long as it is consistently cool, makes a nice place to store your wines. You could also put the wine rack in an interior closet. These storage places are not glamorous, but they keep the wine's taste. Also make sure the wine will not be vibrated, another reason not to keep it on the refrigerator. Don't store the wine next to anything with a strong odor, which could overwhelm the wine's flavor. Wine racks also keep the wine bottle horizontal, tipping the wine to the cork. Keeping the cork wet helps the wine keep. Once you have a place to store your wine rack, you can have fun picking one out. Metal wine racks match

Wine review of 2005
2006-01-02 16:32:00
As 2005 is now history, everyone go with their review of the year. So I made a review of my own on the world of wine. - It was the 150th anniversary of the Bordeaux wine classification - Sales of great vintages of Bordeaux 2004 slowed down. Let's hope that they will catch the signal and realize that they are not the only one in the worlds who make great wines. Are we going to be able to buy Bordeaux at cheaper price in 2006? Let's hope so. - In France, wine crisis causes causes many demonstrations, protests, and riots - Robert Mondavi's empire is swallowed by the giant Constellation - In Australia, Foster takes control of Southcorp and becomes an industry tycoon - In Quebec as in France, rosé wines are more popular than ever. That makes me think that I should suggest a couple of rosé ;-) - The popularity of the movie Sideways raises the sales of Pinot Noir in the United States and worries the Merlot producers. And people say they are not affected by marketing and publicity... pfff

Fine sweet red wines
2005-12-28 10:18:00
I got a question from Dana (that you can read here) about good sweet wines. First, thank you Dana for your question. This is exactly the objective of this blog; sharing information. I don't pretend that I am an expert but I love wine and I love to share my toughts about it. So, let me suggest you to wines that are under $13 CAN that you will probably like First, the Domaine des Moulines 2004,

Brouilly, Georges Duboeuf
2005-12-04 11:11:00
This is my wife's favorite wine. If I want to please her, I just have to buy her a Brouilly from Georges Duboeuf. Not that this wine is exceptional but it is just that it brings her good memories ;-) This Beaujolais is, in fact, very good. Made all of Gamay, it has a generous aroma of red fruits and plum. And Georges Duboeuf produces, in my opinion, the best wine of this appellation. Not an

Novello di Toscana Nuovo Fiore Frescobaldi
2005-11-20 08:23:00
This one is a bit better than the Villa Sarti Novello. It is a red wine of Sangiovese. The bouquet is retained, not very intense. Fairly vigorous mouth on rather hard tannins.

Villa Sarti Novello
2005-11-18 10:11:00
Ok, here's the first one. But before I go with it let me stand corrected about the prize issue. The other day I told you that the 'new wines' were kind of expensives for their quality; well I was presently surprised that it is not the case this year. Most of the wines are under $10 CAN with 1 or 2 at $15. Not bad. The first one I tasted (well drank would be more appropriate :-D) is the Villa

Vino Novello

Novembre 16: the day of the new wine or "vin nouveau" if you prefer. This day is a celebration of summer. It is a marketing thing more than anything that is still very popular around the world. In a lot of countries, people will be waiting in line to buy the new arrivals of the "beaujolais nouveau". But what is this "beaujolais nouveau". Basically it is a wine that is made from grapes that were

Chateau Tellagh
2005-10-01 09:57:00
This is an Algerian red wine. We are not used of drinking wine from this part of the world but believe me, it is worth the try. It is a medea appellation. Very good quality/price ratio. I had a 1998 vintage meaning that this wine can easily be kept in your cellar between 8 to 10 years. You will feel all the Algerian sun through the taste of wild fruits.

Castillo de Monseran

This wine has, in my opinion, the best quality/price ratio. It is a spanish red wine from Carinena appellation. This is the best low price wine I know. You will notice a taste of cranberries. I had a 2004 vintage yesterday but if you can put your hands on a 2000 it will be even better because it was the best year of this wine. This wine do not gaining anything with age so there is no interest of

Introduction
2005-09-07 14:51:00
I am a wine lover not a specialist. I drink wine almost everyday with my wife. There's nothing like a nice bottle of wine during dinner to wrap up the day with your family. But that doesn't make me an expert. I have friends that are experts and very often I rely on them for advice but I am not in there league. I do love wine and I like to take notes on the different wines I try... and I tried a
