Spring Reading Thing 2008: Almost Done
2008-06-15 23:05:00
Okay, I'm not sure how this happened, but Spring Reading Thing 2008 is about to come to a close! I guess the 85-degree weather should have clued me in, but I've been so busy adjusting to school being over that I haven't even thought about the seasons officially changing. Summer will arrive this Friday, so that means it's time for us to post about our Spring Reading Thing experiences and results

Blog Tour: Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World
2008-06-15 23:00:00
This blog tour is for the gift edition of Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World , which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. From the publisher: An invitation for every woman who's ever felt she isn't godly enough, isn't loving enough, isn't doing enough. The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at

Pay no attention to the blogger behind the curtain
2008-06-12 21:00:00
I'm playing around behind the scenes, in case you haven't noticed. Adding a third column, changing some sidebar stuff. Trying not to completely explode my template. So if you notice things suddenly appearing or disappearing, just ignore them. Hopefully, everything will work out well in the end. Thanks for your patience.

Giveaway info
2008-06-12 08:02:00
Well, as you may have noticed, I do not have a book giveaway today... Sorry about that. BUT, I know for a fact that there are at least two more books on their way to me, so I'll have a few more book giveaways before the end of June. I should have the first one up next Thursday. In the meantime, 5 Minutes for Mom is holding a slew of giveaways this week and next. Click the button below to check

The Sandals
2008-06-09 23:00:00
Logan wore sandals for the first time yesterday. These sandals have been patiently sitting on his changing table for the last two weeks or so. Every morning, I ask him if he wants to wear them. "No! Shooooo!!" And so, the tried-and-true sneakers get picked, day after day. Today I decided that he wasn't getting a choice. With the temperature climbing over 90 degrees (again!), he was getting

9 Things I'm Enjoying
2008-06-08 23:00:00
Mrs. N over at All that Naz has started a monthly meme called "9 on the 9th." Participating is as easy as can be -- just post 9...of anything. On the 9th of the month. That'd be today. Below you'll find my list of 9 things I'm enjoying these days. If you want to participate in 9 on the 9th, hop over the All that Naz to get the details and then write your list. Let me know if you do it, so I

The hill
2008-06-05 16:56:00
He still has that Toddler Waddle. As his chubby little legs pump powerfully to get him up the hill, that diaper-clad bum rotates from side to side, adorably. The hill is a steep one and he knows it's a challenge, but with the typical 2-year-old attitude of "I can do it myself," he climbs it, one step at a time. He knows I'm watching him, and he wonders if I'll say, "Logan, no. Stay down here,

A little bit of bloggy news
2008-06-04 23:01:00
Just a quick announcement about Callapidder Days: You can now get to this blog simply by going to www.CallapidderDays.com I figured it was about time to do the whole domain-name thing, and Blogger made it easy to switch. Don't worry, you can still get here the old fashioned way, using the blogspot URL, but if you're tired of typing all that in, this change should save you a few keystrokes.

Winner of last week's book giveaway
2008-06-04 23:00:00
Just wanted to announce the winner of last week's book giveaway. Kamewh has won the Midlife Manual for Men. Congrats! I'm sorry to say that I have come to the end of the giveaway pile. It's possible that a few more books will arrive at my doorstep in the next week or so, and if they do, I'll do several more Thursday giveaways before summer is in full swing. So check back next week to see if

June 4th ramblings
2008-06-04 09:37:00
I forget lots of things (like the plots of books I read six months ago, the endings to almost every movie I've seen, and pretty much everything I learned as an Accounting major in college), but my brain holds on to odd facts like dates and phone numbers. And so, every June 4th, I remember my high school graduation and have random memory flashes all day long: It was a Tuesday and I was nervous

Patience
2008-06-02 23:00:00
I may have mentioned before on this blog that I do not have a green thumb. It's probably been a while since I mentioned that, though, because I generally do not talk about plants at all. For one thing, I don't know the names of most of the plants around our house. And for another, I rely on a very nice landscaper who visits our house twice a year to make sure things are still alive and well.

Where have we gone wrong?
2008-06-01 23:00:00
This little boy... ...would eat M&M's for breakfast, lunch, & dinner if I let him. ...sprouted a mile-wide grin at the sight of his birthday cake. ...tried to grab at his cake's frosting. BUT, this little boy... ...refuses to eat cake. Yes, refuses. On his first birthday, I thought nothing of it. After all, he was only a year old and I had tried to keep his food consumption limited to

Seven Things I've Been Up To
2008-05-28 08:18:00
Sheila recently tagged me for a "seven things about me" meme. And I'm overdue for a post about why I've disappeared. More than one person has emailed me, wondering if I dropped off the face of the earth. I didn't, but I have been a little busy. SO... I'm cheating slightly on the meme and combining the two things into one blog post. And, I'm including a bunch of pictures, just because I feel

Creepy
2008-05-19 23:00:00
I'm taking advantage of Lisa's open tag (Lisa, in turn, found this meme at Elle's, who found it at Toddled Dredge). The basic idea is to make a list of things that creep you out. And since all three of those ladies listed five items, I'll do the same. I give you... Five Things That Creep Me Out 1. The use of toes for pinching other people. Toes are not for pinching. 2. Things near my eyes.

Some of you may know that we are eternally in the process of finishing half our basement. I desperately hope believe that someday soon it will actually be done, and at that time, we'll want to furnish it. Well, I guess the kids don't care if it's furnished -- they'd be just as happy to have a big empty room to run, jump, and play in. But Chad and I would like to have a few chairs, shelving for

Advice to people who land here via Google
2008-05-15 23:00:00
Just for fun, today I decided to examine the various Google searches that lead people to my blog and, of course, to comment on them. The search terms are in bold. My comments are in italics. Enjoy! how to stop my toddler from eating carpet I'm afraid I have no good answer for this, other than to completely rid your house of carpet. Logan ate fuzzers from our carpet for months, despite our

"Freedom"
2008-05-14 06:00:00
Let me tell you about a pet named Atlas. Atlas was a hamster that Chad and I adopted when we were a couple of poor married college students, living in a tiny apartment. We already had a cat, the very same cat we still have today, in fact -- Sprite. And we rescued Atlas from a college student who attempted to raise a pet in the dorms, even though it was completely against the rules. She was

And now: Some rambling about my Mother's Day
2008-05-12 23:00:00
Mother's Day was a little quiet around here -- but that's just the way I like it. Apparently, Logan (1) did not get the memo that all children are to be healthy and easy on Mother's Day. There was quite a bit of crying and whining going on. It wasn't really his fault though; he became horribly pained and sad any time he tried to eat, so clearly he was battling some mystery ailment. Perhaps a

Before & After, BooMama Style
2008-06-17 13:33:00
I was so glad to read about BooMama's fantastic new carnival, BooMama's Before & After. It is exactly the kick in the pants gentle encouragement that I needed. Here's the deal: The Before and After "bloggy extravaganza" is an opportunity to get a little blogosphere accountability when it comes to household projects. Do you have a room that needs to be painted? A closet that could use some

Toddler Talk
2008-06-18 06:08:00
Logan has taken his sweet time when it comes to talking. He didn't say his first word (other than "Ma!") until he was 21 months old. But now, at a little over 2 years, the words are coming in a torrent. Unfortunately, most of them are not helpful to me. Instead of learning words like, "Mother, would you be so kind as to prepare my breakfast?" he's learning -- Well, I'll let you figure it out

I Second That Emotion
2008-07-07 23:00:00
Let me preface this post by saying that I am married to a truly great guy. Over the 14+ years that we've been married, he's learned that occasionally, I cry for absolutely no reason, and that when I share my deepest feelings with him, I might just need a listening ear, not a solution. He's gone from not knowing what in the world to do when my tears start (which is, to be honest, a rare

Formulas from our weekend

Formula #1: (Cl x 1) + (Co x 1) = E x 2 Translation: Clean and Cook Once --> Entertain TwiceWe had a busy weekend, rather social for a bunch of homebodies. And when I say "a bunch of homebodies," I mean two parents who are introverted homebodies and two kids who wonder why we never go anywhere or have anyone over. But this weekend, we did have people over. Thursday night, two families joined
