On Post-Christianity
2007-03-15 13:54:00
Society and culture today in the United Kingdom is being described not only as post-modern but also as post-Christian.This means that the United Kingdom has been through a Christian era, but is now beyond that. It is not however an ex-Christian or a formerly-Christian society. It is a post-Christian society because whilst not being Christian it has carried with it those elements of Christian society which are conducive to the culture and society of a progressive forward thinking United Kingdom. The same is true of my-self as a religious & spiritual individual. I am post-Christian, I have been through Christianity and have continued to move forward in my walk with God, emerging out of Christianity somewhere along that walk and exisitng now in a place where I am still walking with God, utilising the many spiritual facets I have acquired from Christianity in my walk with God, but not subject to Christianity as my ultimate religious identity. Maybe I have been carried by the very culture in

CREDO: My position on Jesus.
2007-03-14 15:56:00
Jesus is certainly the most influential figure in western history. There are many existent opinions on Jesus. Some believe he didn’t exist. Some believe he was/ is God, some believe he was the messiah and so forth. Most people have an opinion on Jesus, especially those involved in religion, whatever their religious involvement might be.For me, my opinion on Jesus is so important to my theology that I must make comment upon it. It’s important to my theology because my religious background is Christian (I would describe my religious idetity as post-Christian these days), I’m a graduate of an Evangelical bible college and I studied for my BA in theology at an Evangelical theological college. Those closest to me are interested in my opinion of Jesus. Often only because they want to ridicule my opinion and try to convince me to think otherwise, but nevertheless, they are interested. They are interested in my opinion primarily because it is due to the legacy of Jesus that my personal st

So where do we go from here with our post-modernist (possibly even post-post-modernist) mindsets and our newly found (re-)appreciation of the mystical side of life? What are we going to do with our love of God and our seemingly paradoxical disdain for religion? How are we to deal with the fact that we are asking spiritual questions but looking with ridicule at the institutions which are trying their best to answer them for us?Where do we go…what will we do…how are we going to handle?May be we aren’t going to go anywhere, we will not do much and we’re not going to bother dealing with our rejection of the answers (?)Maybe…just maybe, joy is to be found in complete acceptance of the situation in which we find ourselves.Contentment with asking questions and detesting the answers given us because that’s what’s happening so why fight it.Enjoying our love of God and rejection of formal religion because that’s who we are so why force ourselves into a little box just because the p

God doesn't hear our prayers!
2007-02-19 12:32:00
Prayer.Communication with God.Does God hear our communications?I ask this question in consideration of the nature of prayer.I feel that anyone willing to engage in a simple philosophical consideration of prayer must come to the conclusion that God actually does not hear our prayers . (Without being too simplistic or too pedantic, God does not have ears.)So what is the nature of prayer and how does this affect the ‘science’ & ‘art’ of communicating with God in prayer? The activity of prayer is such that one interacts with the divine on a level of direct-personal-interaction. However, this interaction obviously does not take place on the verbal plain, this is not a conversation between ourselves and God although some preachers would have us believe that it is just that.I will use a word here which some people may consider to be out of place, but it is my understanding that prayer is something much more ‘magical’ than a conversation. It appears to me that when we engage in prayer

Truth is an Experience.
2007-02-19 12:31:00
Wikipedia- ‘Common dictionary definitions of truth mention some form of accord with fact or reality.’[1]Jesus said ‘To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?’[2]Truth …accord with reality!I am of the opinion that the idea of truth as a knowledge has been a common misconception. My persuasion is that truth is an experience. (It is of value to note that the Koine-Greek word translated as ‘truth’ in the Gospel of John is ‘aletheis’ and is more akin to the concept of reality. This is of value because the concept of reality is easier to understood as an experience than the concept of truth.)When Jesus claimed that he came to ‘bear witness unto the truth (reality)’ did he mean that he came to teach us some gnosis or knowledge, or did he mean that he came to introduce us to an experience? (I think that the latter is more

The RESURRECTION of God.
2007-02-19 12:30:00
It appeared at one time that God’s funeral was about to be planned; and then they didn’t quite pull it off. What happened was the re-recognition that it makes more sense to believe in ‘God’ or a supreme-intelligence or a primal-energy than not to believe. And when sensibility kicked in with this re-recognition over & above the arrogance of atheism, life was breathed back into the ‘person’ of God.Of course, one may say that the idea of an eternally existent ‘presence’ doesn’t make 100% sense either. And they’re probably correct. However, when faced with the choice of eternally existent matter on the one hand and eternally existent intelligence on the other I know which makes more sense! Not full sense, we’re small entities, but certainly more sense.Referring to the arrogance of atheism is not designed to offend an atheist. However, to presume that there is not a ‘God’ because I can’t see him or know her or understand it is arrogance because what I have then do

The importance of some sorta structure.
2007-03-16 16:09:00
What type of a structure can be applied to the non-structural religious pursuit of the post-Christian?Essentially, being post-Christian we should have a wealth of Christian experience upon which to draw when attempting to establish some sort of a structure for our post-Christian religion/ spirituality.‘Why would I want any structure at all?’ You may ask. Some may think that looking to establish any sort of structure would be a background step in their progressive, post-Christian walk with God. Not so.Being quite rationalist post-Christians will demand a reason for any structure, we’re not just going to use structure because it’s there. (Although, if something is an ancient tradition sometimes it’s just being there is reason enough because of the connection it gives us to the past.)The rational reason in defence of some structure is that without it there is every chance of falling out of post-Christianity into non-Christianity; where-by we let go of all of the spiritually-cond
