Tip: Think Inside a Self-Constructed Box
2008-02-29 14:01:33
Whenever we generate ideas, we’re always told to 'think outside the box.' We’ve been trained to play the 'numbers' game in the creative process, to populate the wall with as many ideas as possible until one sticks. This process, if done incorrectly, can yield frustrating meetings that run in circles. Sometimes these wayward brainstorms can cast you far from a viable solution. Over the past couple of years, our team has come to recognize some necessary constraints that help generate new and fresh ideas.

Checkpoints: Professionalism
2008-02-15 16:13:27
Professionalism helps others relate to your ideas. To raise funds, engage different people, and develop partnerships, your ideas must gain traction with a broader audience. You need people to be receptive to you. To ensure maximum receptivity, productive creative professionals are flexible with how they present their work.

Tip: Rely on Initiative, Not Experience
2008-03-14 16:25:38

Directives, Part I: If You Care, They'll Care
2008-03-19 20:18:16
What's that? Your portfolio alone is enough to get you hired on the spot? Think again. The powers-that-be of the creative establishment want more than a strong book, they want to know you're bringing a certain je ne sais quios to their team as well. In the first installment of a four-part series, Behance asked a select group of decision-makers from dynamic creative teams exactly what they're looking for in new hires.

Tip: Seek Stimulation From Randomness
2008-03-21 17:34:09
Some of the most productive creative minds rely on a periodic self-administered dose of randomness to stay stimulated. Stimulation is not only necessary when developing new ideas, but is also critical when refining solutions to a particular problem. Every brain benefits from new angles that often escape your traditional point of view.

Tip: Reconsider Your Workspace
2008-04-02 10:50:31

Spotlight: Footwear in the Behance Network
2008-04-04 14:24:41
If there is one thing the Behance team has in common, it's a love of shoes. Granted, this love is graded on a sliding scale from 'healthy interest' to 'borderline obsession,' but there's no denying the fact we all fall in there somewhere. It would make sense then, that the members of the Behance Network would share a similar lust for all things footwear.

2008-04-11 14:56:19

His first foray into manufacturing -- Sorapot -- occurred somewhat unexpectedly, and allowed a unique insight into the creative and production process for the many people who followed Roth's journey.

Tip: Question Your Elders
2008-04-14 15:11:57
How should we reconcile our tendency to seek the advice of experts with our desire to also question the status quo and try things differently? As creative professionals, we cannot become imprisoned by the past, but we must also not be stubborn and spend our time reinventing the wheel.

Tip: Stop Focusing on Visionaries
2008-04-29 08:08:01
There is a horrid fact in the world of innovation: The vast majority of new products fail, and most new ad campaigns don’t achieve their objectives. The brilliant minds that fuel breakthroughs are also at a disadvantage when it comes to getting ideas adopted by the masses.

2008-05-12 13:38:55
