Hypermodernism, Part 2
2008-05-29 12:23:12
Yeah, here we go again. Another rant about modern-day compositions utilizing techniques to make the music sound as atonal and horrible to hear as possible. While sitting at the piano trying to devise a melody and harmony for a possible upcoming piece, I started to think. Is what I’m writing too “pretty”? Is [...]

Still here
2008-05-21 16:09:51
I’m having a love-hate relationship with my computer.  I love how the new RAM means that it runs faster, but that means that it stalls constantly from time to time.  I’m close to blaming it on my anti-spyware and anti-virus software.  What does this have to do with anything?  Well, I’ve noticed that my version [...]

Time shift?
2008-05-12 21:27:19
It’s pretty much official.  The undergraduate in me is dead, in more ways than one. Since I’ve moved back to London, I’ve pretty much felt like an old man.  Bad enough that I was one of the oldest people in my graduating year, but what I’m referring to more is in regards to when I [...]

True style?
2008-05-06 09:49:29
Not sure exactly what to write about, here. Lately, I’ve been on an incredible kick to listen to trance, dance and new age music. I used to listen to them just for kicks; I loved listening to it all the time as a kid, but it’s tough to really explain why. Since [...]

Some changes
2008-05-02 20:56:06
Changed the potential release date of my independent album to winter 2008.  It’s not so much that I don’t believe that it could be available in the fall, although it is never a bad idea to take extra time to make sure that the polish is there.  Since this is going to be produced entirely [...]

No internet = hard to update
2008-04-30 12:45:31
I intended to have a lengthy blog post, or something of that sort, up about a week ago.  But unfortunately, the internet at the house is all messed up.  Initially, it was supposed to be up as early as last Friday, and as late as Monday.  My housemate called the internet company, and said that [...]

Game and Album update
2008-04-20 10:14:03
Just a quick update.  Tom has finally released a new version of his game, which has implemented the music I’ve written.  Check out the page here:  Tetra Master v0.4. My first exam (finally) is tomorrow night.  I’ll probably have a lengthy blog post sometime later in the week, probably with updates about the album.  Some information [...]

Self-publishing
2008-04-14 21:46:54
I’ve all but given up with Lulu.  I don’t understand why nothing from my system ever uploads to their database.  I’ve been trying for the longest time to get my sheet music up there, so I can finally have a compilation, and perhaps even start selling it to the general public.  The idea was to [...]

Another update
2008-04-11 12:14:21
Turns out I was most definitely not using SONAR properly all this time.  Managed to play around with different synthesizers, particularly with Traversal Plain.  I’ve updated the download file, so it is available if anybody wishes to check it out.

New Music
2008-04-10 16:16:47
It’s been a while since I actually uploaded something completely new. At the same time, the list of downloads available in the Music section was getting a little bit cluttered, so I had to remove some pieces. They were mostly the early compositions. I may end up cleaning up more of it [...]

The Piano
2008-06-02 10:35:22
Here’s a shot of the piano taken with my new toy (which is absolutely awesome). With digital cameras being a technology that almost everybody has nowadays (along with mobile phones, and computers), it’s kind of late for me to finally get one. But I digress. Hopefully I’ll be able to take some [...]

Solutions!
2008-06-01 14:03:40
I’ve finally found the solution to why a lot of my music from Finale is sounding so quiet.  Well, actually, I had heard about doing this a far while ago, but didn’t think it’d be so easy.  The problem is pretty simple: the decibels are far in the negatives (some are sitting at around -24).  [...]

Torben Thøger: My New Hero
2008-06-03 21:27:51
I’m telling you, Europe is where it’s at.  I don’t know what it is that makes European composers immensely talented and incredibly creative.  Is this statement entirely true?  I doubt it; but it’s an opinion, and it’s my opinion, so there. Anyway, I had the pleasure of listening to Thøger’s new album “Akasha”, and it is everything [...]

GSF Update
2008-06-07 22:08:37
You know, I ask for suggestions, I get them, but I never follow them right away.  Why?  Why am I so stubborn into trying to figure things out for myself first, even after I’ve asked for suggestions?  Turns out there is a method in Finale for altering the decibels in every individual voice, but every [...]

The Inner Ear?
2008-06-09 20:20:47
This is a bit of a response to a discussion that took place awhile ago. It didn’t take place here, but at another website that I visit once in a while. The topic was about whether as a composer if you sat down in front of a piano, or whatever instrument (it could [...]

Battlestar Galactica…is it over?
2008-06-14 08:15:56
I don’t think I was convinced that the series was done until the final minute or so.  After all, it’s only been about ten episodes into the season; something else had to have been happening.  Then it ended.  Just like that?  Wasn’t quite what I was expecting, particularly so soon.  How many people did that [...]

Lyrical content: How important is it?
2008-06-15 19:20:09
While listening and laughing at how corny these lyrics were just a short while ago: “Tell me a fable, a fable that will never end,” I’m wondering how much attention people pay to lyrics.  First of all, from what I’ve noticed along with personal experience, the general sound of the song or piece is what [...]

Physical or Digital? CD Baby or Lulu?
2008-06-17 20:24:43
With the release of Glass-stained Forest drawing closer as I finalize the tracks, now comes the time to make a couple of important decisions: choosing a format and choosing a publisher.  I’ve made a lot of posts in the past about the options that are available, particularly whether or not I should go with Lulu [...]

Upgrades afoot
2008-06-25 19:51:47
Couple of announcements, some of which have to do with the website.  But first and foremost, the hard drive on my laptop is dying.  It’s been really struggling as of late, and I got one of those lovely “SMART failure predicted” warnings during the boot up.  The machine has been under heavy use during the [...]

Another theme change
2008-06-20 09:33:03
If I keep this up, my site will soon be ripe for parody.  “Oh, how many times a day will Matt change the appearance of his site?”  “Hasn’t he already done so 5 times?”  “That was just in the past hour.” Yeah, as if anybody will actually argue about that.  I shouldn’t flatter myself. Essentially, the motivation [...]

Album Release
2008-07-11 12:19:41
Been a busy last couple of days.  The album has been mixed, compiled, and paired with album art.  After careful thinking, I’ve chosen CD Baby as my digital distributor.  As soon as I know which retailers carry it, it will be posted here at the website for purchase. I’m not sure about a release date yet, [...]

Joys of Summer
2008-07-06 18:18:20
Funny how time flies.  I didn’t realize that I hadn’t updated the website in almost two weeks.  That said, I’m pleased to announce another record of numbers in regards to visits to the site.  The record of unique visitors as well as return visitors has been considerably higher than the previous high which was set [...]

Merch Shop now open
2008-07-20 13:51:58
There aren’t that many designs for shirts up at the moment, but the merch shop is finally open.  Click here to visit the shop. Select from t-shirts, hoodies, caps, and more.  This will eventually get its own home along with other stuff that’s going on sale, but why not take a peek and see what [...]

Sheet music
2008-07-19 18:32:38
I already have another project that’s well underway. This is actually something I’ve tried to do before getting the album together, but completely forgot about it. It was mentioned in the last post that sheet music development was underway, so here’s a sneak peak of the cover art for it.  Unlike the album, there [...]

Cover art confirmed
2008-07-14 20:23:21
The art for the album was finalized about last Thursday, but I wanted to wait until it was in CD Baby’s database before showing it here.  I don’t know why, but I guess that sort of finalizes that this is going to be it.  It’s difficult to see from the reduced image, but there is [...]

Sheet music available
2008-08-09 13:33:42
After many hours pulling my hair trying many different methods of adding page numbers, it’s finally done.  Sheet music, Just For Piano is finally available at Lulu.  To check it out as well as its price, click here.

Sheet Music soon to be published
2008-08-05 21:30:15
Whilst working out today, something had hit me.  Well, not literally of course, that would be painful.  I remembered that Finale had an integrated feature which can scan existing music and display it on the screen to be edited.  I remember awhile back when I had formatted my laptop (for the first time) that I [...]

Glass-stained Forest update
2008-08-04 10:02:28
I got a message from CD Baby last Friday saying that the album has been shipped to the iTunes store amongst others.  It could be as soon as 2 weeks that the album will be available through them.  I had also discovered a place that will manufacture physical copies of the album.  It’s currently in [...]

Try Before You Buy
2008-07-31 09:42:33
Up at Last.fm, I’ve uploaded Glass-stained Forest in its entirety.  It’s available in completion for streaming, so listeners can preview the entire album before deciding to buy.  Clicking here will take you there. The sheet music is coming!  There’s just one more piece that needs to be added before it can be finalized.  Hopefully then there’ll [...]

Album Launched!
2008-07-28 16:19:42
I am very pleased to announce that the launch of my debut album, Glass-stained Forest has finally arrived.  For the moment, the CD is available through CD Baby, but it will be available through other online retailers.  You can find out more track information in the new online store section of the website, or if [...]
