Readin' Blogs 'n' Drinkin Beer! Smokin' Marlboros 2007-03-07 06:17:00 The weather here has been a bit wet 'n' windy today, to the extent that all the cruise ships turned themselves around and headed off to someplace else. As a result it was pretty quiet in George Town and we even managed to park up and eat our lunch (meatball subs with plenty jalapenas) right on the waterfront.I don't have a lot to blog about at the moment so I been cruising around the blogosphere and readin' whatever grabbed my attention. I came across a coupla blogs written by womenfolk that I thought warranted a mention just 'cause they raised a smile - they are chalk and cheese but put a grin on my face nonetheless. The first was Trashology which is in its early days but written in an amusin' tongue in cheek style by Miss Trashahashee....yep fer real :-)Findin' blogs from Cayman is not easy and how I stumbled across this next place I don't know, but it's another pretty funny read and probably of interest to island dwellers. Cayman Country & Cayman News 2007-03-03 02:40:00 It's been a pretty busy few days but I've managed to do a little more work on the blog at last.Firstly the new look, which I hope is easier on the eye than the rather dreary clothes it was wearing. Secondly, I've added some rather neat extras in the sidebar so you can now check the latest local news stories, plus all the breaking stories in the country music scene, from right here on these pages. If you live in a part of the world where country music is scarce, why not tune in to our local online programming and enjoy both contemporary and classic country with Rooster 101, THE Cayman
country station! the website is undergoing a revamp at the moment but the sounds are still playing 24/7.Alternatively, if you prefer the sound of Texas Country
to the commercialism of Nashville you will find a great variety of Texas Country Stations here at Lonestar Music and my personal recommendations would also have to include 99.5 The Wolf and the excellent 98.1 KVET out of Austin, Texas. The country
JoeBlogs Storms The Cayman Islands 2007-02-28 21:09:00 Another gorgeous day in Cayman
and in view of a number of questions from readers (thanks for takin' the time to email me) I thought I'd promote some of the more interesting and useful sites connected to these islands. I also know that quite a few people from back home browse through now and again and that you like to see what I'm gettin' up to and how life is treatin' me - if that's you then enjoy the photos!I'll start off with a blog that is sweeping through the islands at the moment, boasting over 52,000 readers in just 10 days! Now, I may be just a simple cowpoke but I reckon that is due in no small part to all the advertising boards that appeared on the island - "Adults Only - Joeblogs.ky". My mother-in-law even asked me one evening what it was all about! Clever ad campaigns aside, it is a very good site and there are obviously a lot of people out there who want to have their say and/or see what others are saying and JoeBlogs seems to be just the place to do it - go scope it Read more:Storms

The Caribbean & The Old West - Quite A Mixture! 2007-02-22 18:25:00 Howdy once again from Grand Cayman, the weather today is a balmy 82 degrees with a refreshing breeze. George Town is busy today as the shot from the webcam shows - plenty of cruise ships in the bay and consequently the streets and bars are thronged! The seas are calm once again after a few days of pretty choppy waters and clouds that were hanging around have been blown away. Yep, today is great day to be on Cayman!I've been enjoying the idle life once again and today I'm sitting at my laptop in the kitchen enjoying the cool breeze running through the house.....should really get to the beach but somehow chillin'at home appeals more today. So, I'm Stumbling websites that interest me and thought I'd share some of my discoveries on these pages.First up, for some excellent photos of Little Cayman, one of our sister islands pop over to Photo- Exposure.com and see some great shots on a beautiful looking website."It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep". Today's Cayman Islands Photos 2007-02-19 20:22:00 Hi folks - I hope these images of Cayman
will bring a little warmth to your day! We may not be experiencing the big freeze but a "cold front" has moved across the islands today and we are suffering temperatures in the low 70's which is pretty chilly for this part of the world! It will at least keep me off the beach today and make me do something productive.......maybe.I am a few days into this blog now and I would be interested to hear from anyone who has questions about Cayman or suggestions as to what they would like to see on these pages. I'm a pretty flexible fella, so, aside from my occasional rambling, what do YOU think I should post more of here?My original plan was just to make this a general/personal sorta deal, but if anyone out there would like me to comment on more specific topics please let me know. I'm hoping that I do have at least a few readers :-) even if you're only here for the purty pictures! I do have some thoughts for my next few entries but I can use all the Read more:Islands

Cayman Sunsets & Breezes By The Bay 2007-02-12 19:56:00 I guess seeing sunset pictures can get a little tedious after a spell, but as everyplace north of Miami seems to be suffering particularly harsh winter weather I hope they might help to put a smile on the faces of all the frozen folks counting down the days to summer vacation time. These pictures were taken whilst sitting on the waterfront a couple of nights back just ahead of a really good meal at Breezes
By The Bay in George Town - a great place to sit out on the verandah and watch the world pass by whilst enjoying your food. If you are looking for guides to eating out on the islands I can recommend this guide to Cayman
Islands Restaurants which covers pretty much most places, whatever kind of food and mood you are looking for. Eating out need not be expensive on the islands, but some places do charge a premium.According to one taxi driver here, some of the most popular places include the Calypso Grill, Grand Old House, The Wharf Restaurant Fisherman's Reef and The Lighthouse Restaur Read more:Sunsets
Margaritaville On Grand Cayman 2007-02-05 22:26:00 GrandCayman
has finally been touched by music legend turned entrpreneur, Jimmy Buffet. Visitors arriving in Georgetown will be hard pushed to miss our very own Margaritaville situated right on the waterfront. The building was not without controversy initially (it's the orange coloured structure in the accompanying photo) but I think folks have come to accept that it is a valuable addition to the local economy and a cool place to eat, knock back the odd cocktail or ice cold beer, and watch the world pass by from the great vantage point of the veranda.Being a country boy and a great believer in "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" I'm happy to give the venture a little plug on these pages. If you've never heard of the man or his music there is even a Radio Margaritaville that you can listen to on the web.I'm hoping to give regular bulletins on places to eat/drink/hangout here on the island as time goes on - that's a lot of ground to cover, a tough job that someone just has to do!

Weather In Cayman Today 2007-02-03 20:13:00 It's a beautiful day here in the Cayman
Islands and we were up early to catch it for you!Reading the news on my laptop from around the globe reminds me just how fortunate we really are and seeing the cruise ship passengers disembarking in George Town every day brings home just how many other folks pay good money for short taste of island life.If you've visited the webcam mentioned in my previous post you'll know just what I mean.Lying on Seven Mile Beach yesterday we heard a host of different tongues as people wandered past us at the water's edge - knowing that they were having to head back to the ships and leave this island paradise behind, I couldn't help but reflect on my own good fortune.Tourism is a major part of the economy here of course. Sure it brings its problems but I like to hope that the majority of visitors leave having had a great experience. Someone asked me recently about my experiences as a foreigner here, citing things they had heard about the welcome a travell Read more:Today
Cayman Webcams -A Brief Tour 2007-02-02 01:03:00 The Cayman
Compass have just announced the launch of their new webcam on the waterfront in George Town. I've already been and had a quick look and it's a very good live cam - watch in real time and control the cam yourself. A great way to have a look at our capital - you may even catch a decent sunrise if you log on around 6pm EST one evening.View the latest Cayman Islands webcam hereThere are some other cams dotted around the island although none are as efficient as the above. Still, if you are just looking to see some nice views they are worth a look.Try the view of the port at George Town here - Port Authority CamsThe famous turtle farm also has cams (they can be a little tempremental) - Check out the turtle cams hereThe Royal Palms has a couple of cams in the Seven Mile Beach area one here and one here Finally the owner of a house in the East End area has a cam which you can check out here at his website CaymanChillin.com Enjoy y'all - I strongly recommend sittin' at your monit Read more:Webcams

Sounds From Grand Cayman 2007-01-30 15:54:00 The past couple of days have been a little cloudy but today has begun with beautiful clear skies and a wonderful strong breeze. Perfect for me and some of the folks shown here who shared the early morning in the front yard with me. I sat and wondered where to start with today's blog and turned on the radio. Music has always been a big part of my life - it has accompanied all those peaks and troughs that life deals out to us all and is largely responsible for the best thing that ever happened to me. Ok then, music it is. On an island such as GrandCayman
, a place with such a diverse population, the music is as varied as you will find anywhere. As far as I'm concerned there is one that stands hat and shoulders above the rest and that's our local country station Rooster 101.9FM. Rooster play a fair mix of contemporary, chart, oldies, etc. and although they concentrate primarily on Nasville stuff you will occasionally hear a little of Texas Country too. For me - a cowboy in exile - it's Read more:Grand Cayman

Cayman Islands Time 2007-01-29 15:51:00 It's a Monday in January - 9am and I'm sitting on the front porch. Iced tea in my left hand and a cigarette dangling lazily from the fingers of my right. I feel like one of the many millionaires that populate this idyllic piece of real estate - although I'm not of course. Very far from it. Just about now I'm content to count my blessings (many) and sympathise with all the folks currently struggling with the big freeze - well, at least a little. With no current job I am living on meagre savings and hoping that they will last for the next few weeks, pending my immigration approval and permission to go out and earn a few bucks. So yeah, I may look like a fella without a care in the world but whatever your definition of paradise, everything has a sting in the tail somewhere down the line. That's maybe something all of us tend to forget when we feel the need to change our lives. For me, how I reached this point in my life is a wonderful story but like all the best stories it is a mixture Read more:Cayman

Late Night Philosophy & Cowboy Ramblin's 2007-03-12 04:00:00 The world sure is a crazy place ain't it?OK, not the most profound, or even original, opening statement ever made I admit. Today I was restin' up on the beach, lookin' out at the waves breakin' on the reef, sweet talkin' with my girl, and countin' my blessin's. One of those special moments where you get to ruminatin' on a whole mess of things and thinkin' that maybe it's about time you spoke up on a few subjects.Y'see, I'm a lucky man, real lucky. I've got good people in my life, I'm old enough to have learned to sort the wheat from the chaff and to just let the little stuff go. It hasn't always been that way, least not completely, but right about now life is pretty damn close to perfect. Whenever I sit up and take time to notice things like that, it brings with it a kind of sorrow for the world and so many of the folks in it.First off are all the crazy, mean and just plain stupid things people do to one another. I spend a lot of time at this keyboard and I get to read a Read more:Night

Eat Organic, Live Clean, Excercise, Fight Global Warming - Die Anyway! 2007-03-13 04:49:00 If you're anything like me you get real tired of the scaremongering that seems to be a steady staple of politicians, media, health freaks and so on.Here is a basic human truth - you are going to die. There is no cure. Accept it, and get on with life. If you are lucky enough to enjoy good health, all the better, don't be wastin' it. If you're blessed with a lot more than just good health, be doubly grateful. (I'm not a fatalist, but do like to think of myself as a realist). What got me goin' on this subject? Well, as I mentioned in my previous post, there ain't no point in worryin' about the things you can do nothin' about. As an example; everyone on earth has followed the growing debate about global warming. For all of you who are feeling hugely guilty, or afraid of the consequences of mankind's huge impact on nature, go and read this post about global warming. This fella could be wrong but he sure puts forward some logical and telling arguments - to my mind at least.Do you fe Read more:Organic

Angel In Waitin' 2007-03-15 04:46:00 Making good on my promise to post something a lil' less serious this time around I thought I'd share a nice lil' slice of life on Cayman today. It's a lil' ol' story that fits perfectly with my blog entry from a coupla days back. It's been hot here today, and Mrs Cowboy had to head on into town to take care of a few errands. I stayed back at the homestead and drank iced tea whilst appreciatin' the blue skies and buzzin' bugs outside on the back porch. Yeah, I know, alright for some folks huh?It wasn't 'til tonight, me still sittin', this time with Mrs C as well as the bugs, that we got to talkin' about our day. Turns out that while she was off in town, an older fella approached her car, tapped on the window and politely asked for ten bucks as he'd done run outta gas.Now I know a whole bunch of people woulda tole this fella to go get a job an' so on an' so forth......feelin' right indignant that he'd have the affrontery to ask right out for money from a lady like that..

What Makes A Caribbean Cruise Memorable? 2007-03-18 04:10:00 I'm lucky enough to live my life in the beautiful Cayman Islands, but for anyone considering visiting this wonderful region of the world here are a few thoughts on how you might like to spend your vacation time in the tropical paradise that is the Caribbean

Vacation A Memorable Experience? by Ivan CalderwellThere exist many factors why vacation goers enjoy to go on a Caribbean cruise vacation and that is not just because they like the idea of going on just a cruise ship which already is a vacation before you even set foot on any land. Mother Nature, Cowgirls, Philosophy....Lord Knows What Else 2007-03-23 00:58:00 I thought I'd start this evenin's ruminatin' with a nice relaxin' photo of Mother Nature doin' what she does best.....paintin' us the prettiest pictures we'll ever get to see in our lifetimes.
