Despite a rough start to the day, I am calm. I have no clue why that is.Monday mornings are rough in general because I'm up at 3am to get the hubby off to his weekly "flight to a land without children screaming" (I think that is an actual island or something) and I did not get back to sleep until AFTER 5am. With a 6am wake-up, I was hurting. You would think that I'd pack hubby's luggage up and iron his clothes EARLY on a Sunday evening, but I usually take my time. I will NEVER learn! And this morning Mags goes for a grooming. And do you know where the leashes are, pray tell? You guessed correct - they are in my Hubby's truck, which is at the AIRPORT! An hour away, for those of you who are playing!I have a few errands to do besides the grooming (which involves drop off AND pick up), carting Pumpkin to and from school, and my latte stop. All of this with 2 little girls in tow.I'm tired. And it's only 9am. But I'm calm, as I've told you. Maybe it's the duct tape I've us

Random Words From my Brain
2007-03-20 15:28:00
Some people have made comments about my chipper nature. HUH? A few of you know that some days I'm just a whiny toad. I have 3 kids to myself 24/7 for 4 days a week, and when Daddy is home, frequently he adds to my work load! And I tend to WANT to take care of my family instead of passing the work on. I'm tired. I stay up way too late at night, mainly because I like the quiet after the kids go to bed, as if I don't want it to ever end!I tend to a 4-bedroom house that gets dirty 5 minutes after I clean it. Keeping up with it is ludicrous, so I work on it little by little, and by the time Thursday comes around, I make a big push to get the house pretty presentable so that Hubby comes home to a clean house. Hubby tells me all the time to not worry about it so much, but I still worry. I still want it clean. If you are looking for me on a Thursday afternoon, I'm probably cleaning a toilet or folding laundry. And I do whine sometimes. Ask my close friends. I suffer from a l

My House of Poop
2007-03-22 02:16:00
Just skip this post if you can't take "pooptalk." I'm thinking that most who read my blog are parents, so a little "pooptalk" every now and then keeps the fingernails growing, yes?Anyone out there have issues with their kids pooping? My 5 year old son has constipation. Yes, he is all "assed-up." Poor kid. Pumpkin never had a bowel movement every day, so a daily poop hasn't been terribly important in the scheme of things. He now goes to full day pre-k, and being potty trained is important. He's made it all year up to this point without any accidents, but he has come home with little poop "scrapes" on his underwear more and more. Yes, he pees like a champ. Check out the kids' bathroom upstairs - he pees fine, and on every porcelain surface, it seems.Ten minutes before we were all going to leave for school this morning, there he was, sitting on the toilet, trying to poop. The poor kid was CRYING. I lost it. I felt so badly that I just started crying in front of him. And I b

Here's a question for ya:WHY are there so many judge/court shows on TV? I took a moment to check out that new humongous TV in the living room (right after I got my bonbons from the kitchen @@) and I was channel surfing my way thru Court Hell! Church Bulletin Bloopers
2007-03-25 19:16:00
Here are some actual bloopers from church bulletins. Being the fine Catholic woman that I am, I thought you could appreciate a good chuckle from me on a Sunday. Enjoy! 1. Don't let worry kill you - let the church help.2. Thursday night - Potluck supper. Prayer and medication to follow.3. Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community.4. For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs. 5. The rosebud on the alter this morning is to announce the birth of David Alan Belzer, the sin of Rev. and Mrs. Julius Belzer.6. This afternoon there will be a meeting in the South and North ends of the church. Children will be baptized at both ends.7. Tuesday at 4:00 PM there will be an ice cream social. All ladies giving milk will please come early.8. The Pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake

Fearless and Fearful
2007-03-26 10:11:00
I've been tagged by my dear friend Nancy. Our friendship started years ago, when we were both married, childless and trying to have little blessings of our own...Real Moms are fearless and are fearful.Real Moms fiercely protect their children. They don't take any crap when anyone, friend or stranger, looks to harm their child. And they fear that it could happen to their babies anyway.Real Moms step up and stand up for their children, whether it be because of a mean child at school or at the park, or an adult who belittles the child. And they fear that their children will be ignored by teachers and other kids, passed over when sides are chosen for a game, or avoided by the popular kids. Or even ignored by other family members. And that their children will be upset and disappointed. And Real Moms worry that they won't be able to comfort their children enough when it counts.Real Moms do the very best they can for their children. Working a couple more hours so she can afford

Seacrest, Out
2007-03-29 03:12:00
People should be ashamed of themselves.Maybe this American Idol singer is a nice guy. I'm talking about Sanjaya Malakar. There are people out there who are voting for him, knowing FULL well that he shouldn't be this season's American Idol. It stems from being hateful, and proving a point. Shock jock Howard Stern has begged his listeners to vote for this guy. There are websites devoted to voting for this guy. There is even a young lady who is on a hunger strike until this guy gets voted off. Ok, I'm sure he has SOME fans. BUT COME ON!The show SUPPOSED to be about being the best performer. Being a good singer SUPPOSED to be the most important criteria. Being a voice teacher, I know a little about what qualifies as a good singer, and people, this poor guy isn't that good. I feel bad for the other contestants who actually sing better than Malakar. And frankly, I'm very disappointed in this WHOLE season. Tis a shame. Why do you think this is happening? On a side note, Gwen

Wanna See?

Princess says I'm the best Mommy she's ever had. And that she was so glad to meet me when she came out of my tummy. AWWW. I'm the only Mommy you've had, kiddo! And meeting you was magical for me as well, chickadee! So Princess has been lazy when it comes to peeing. She isn't a Poop Whore like Pumpkin is (someone tell me that this shit and urine thing will pass SOON!??) but she certainly is a lot better at using the potty. She's been doing SO well that I bought her some new undies at BJ's yesterday. I even let her pick them out herself! She was SO proud and thrilled. SO much so that she had to tell everyone about her new undies. At the gas station, as I was driving away: MOM! WAIT! I almost forgot to tell the man pumping the gas about my new undies!Checking out at BJ's: Mam, did you see my new undies? They have PELICANS on them!To Sam (Pumpkin's classmate) and his mom in the school parking lot: I need to show you my new undies that I got today! They are SO cool!T

Song X7
2007-03-30 12:50:00
Momma Loves... tagged me for this Music Meme (thanks!):Guidelines: List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what they are. They must be songs you are presently enjoying. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to.Here are the 7 songs that help me get jiggy with it:Mahnuhmuhnah! from the Muppet ShowI showed my kids this video for the first time last week. (I actually posted the video to this recently) They about peed their pants, and now they sing it ALL the time! We can be driving along and I'll say "Mahnuhmuhnah!" and then the song is off to the races. Nice to see it stands up to time - it was popular when I was young! And that's a LONG time ago! (Ok, the song came out when I was 2 years old!)JavaJive by Manhattan TransferI used to sing this song in high school and college. I was in a cappella groups back then, and I have a real appreciation for these kind of harmonies. And I LOVE this group! And it's about coffee, so I've been singing it A L

Rainy Monday in More than One Way
2007-04-03 02:06:00
I'm sick. It started with a cold from my kids, and has now evolved into vertigo, nausea and beyond. My in-laws are on their way over to help me today - Fil will make sure Pumpkin gets to and from school, and Mil will stay here and help me with the girls. I'm a mess. My house is a mess. You know when you are sick when your Mil is on her way over, your house is a mess, and you don't even care. That's me.And if any of you has had this horrible stuff recently, give me advice to help me feel better! And if it was YOU that got me sick...I'm gonna GET ya!Have a great Monday folks. I have nothing witty to say! I'll see you on the flip side of my fever!Update: I feel a little better. I ended up going to the doc, who found a good amount of stuff in my left ear, probably messing up my balance. As a result, I'm getting very dizzy and nauseous when I move my head. I ended up sleeping and resting most of the day, thanks to my in-laws (although Sweetpea decided to talk and play dur

Can You Turn It DOWN?
2007-04-04 15:49:00
My girls asked for their "My Little Pony" DVD in the van. Thank goodness we only own ONE of these. Why do I say that? WHY?Let's just say that anyone who has done any voice work on this show needs to be harmed. Hell, add any directors or producers of the show as well. They all need a head-shapin. They need a little visit from my husband's side of the family, if you know what I mean!WHY?I had the pleasure of listening to that stinking DVD in the van this morning and let's just say that Mommy, remember Mommy with the congested HEAD? Well, I think a big sledge hammer comes out of the DVD screen when I hit the play button. Sledge hammer to my SINUSES. I hope these people got paid well, my friends. I don't think I can hear anything but a constant whiny hum now. And no, I do NOT think that DVD will make it into the VACATION DVD COLLECTION for next week.I'd rather watch paint dry. At least THAT doesn't make noise.

Prelude to a Vacation
2007-04-03 14:47:00
So did I tell ya that we (as in the famiglia) are going on vacation next week? We are driving down to Florida. Yes, driving. We go down there every year and most of the time we drive. Most people I tell that to say, "You are DRIVING? With 3 little kids?" Gulp.Actually, the kids travel very well in the van, and a DVD player (with headphones!) really helps! We load the van up with pillows, blankets, snacks and toys. I pack up the van the night before (but I need to start packing the luggage NOW) and we'll head out at 00:dark:30 next Saturday morning (the 14th). Hubby and I will take turns driving, and we'll stop in North Carolina that night, arriving in Florida on Sunday.Today, not feeling 100% (thanks again for the well wishes), I don't feel like going through all of the kids summer clothes to figure out what I need to buy. They all need new sneakers and sandals, I know THAT much. Pumpkin will need some new shirts and Princess will definitely need the most stuff. Sweetpea

As my loyal readers know, I've been ill all week with a darn head cold from hell. As a result, many things that I wanted to get done haven't been attended to yet.So Pumpkin wanted a "party" of some sort recently, and someone ( NOT ME) got a brilliant idea to have Easter Dinner HERE at our house instead of at my inlaws this year. OH GREAT. Not only do I have to go buy treats for the kids from the Big Hippity Hopster, but I also have to cook for all of my inlaws. OH JOYOUS RAPTURE SOMEONE SHOOT ME IN THE HEAD!How many hours do I have left to go to the market?Do you celebrate Easter? If so, what do you cook? Serve? And what does the Easter Bunny give to YOUR kids? Again, looking for some divine inspiration!!

Counting Down...

...to Easter!I did my shopping for Easter yesterday. WHAT A ZOO! I got ham, potatoes, a few different veggies, along with some desserts (hic). I also FINALLY picked up some flowers for the house - a big bunch of tulips for the table, lilies for the mantel and some daffodils for my hubby.Daffodils were my Hubby's grandmother's favorite flower. In fact, she had LOADS of them on her property. So every spring, Hubby and I drive around to key spots in the area to watch the daffodils come up and bloom. Hubby was very close to his grandmother - she was the one who practically raised him for his first number of years (both his parents worked). She passed before I met Hubby, but I have learned to know about her through him, and I truly know that I missed out on meeting such a wonderful lady. It's sweet to think about. My husband is a tall guy - 6'4", and our son looks a lot like he did as a boy. His grandma was a little woman, straight from Italy, and had the wonderful broken English

Too much candy in this house!Easter in MamaLee-ville went great. Dinner came out wonderful, the kids had a great time, and my inlaws enjoyed a nice afternoon, content, full, and sugared UP!After doing a few loads of dishes in my new DISHWASHER (OMG is it WRONG to be in love with an appliance?), my house is still pretty clean! Woohoo! Just too many candy bowls.Hubby flew off to work earlier today (took an afternoon flight out) and Pumpkin was off from school for one more day, heading back tomorrow. And the big PUSH is on! Vacation!! Here come the lists. I'm feeling better than I did LAST week, finally, so I'll get to the store to get some summer clothes for the kids (did I just say SUMMER? ahhhhhhhhh.), and then the packing shall commence. Dogs will go to our friends for the week (thank you!), and Mommy here needs to paint her toenails! Packing An Army
2007-04-12 23:34:00
Busy Packing! I swear my house looks like a department store! Kids' clothing-living room, Woman's clothing-dining room, Swimwear-kitchen table...I wish I was one of those people who get things done WAY in advance, but I'm just NOT. Add 3 kids and 2 dogs, and I take ample time to procrastinate between spurts of energy. Thoughts to breaks to lists to breaks to laundry to breaks to piles of clothes to breaks to TIME TO GO??I'm almost done packing. Really I'm sure I overpacked, as usual. Tonight I vacuum out the van (I figure that we can at LEAST start the trip with a clean van. The steam cleaner will come out when we get BACK from vacation!) and pack some more. A few more items to wash. Hubby's flight home has been delayed, but he should be home later tonight.Tomorrow is all about shopping for groceries for the trip, Hubby takes the dogs to our friends' home in New York (we don't live far from the border) and tomorrow night I pack the van up.OOO, batteries for the DVD he

Spending the Moolah
2007-04-12 02:08:00
Ever spend a LOT of money in one day and it made you kinda sick?I didn't come from a rich family. We were a middle-class family - 5 kids - and although we never starved, we never went on vacations either. What you saw was what we had. My mom was/is a seamstress and a knitter, so many of our outfits were homemade. Oh, how I miss those cordoroy outfits I wore in elementary school! My brother and I were the only ones to go to college, but it took me YEARS to pay off all of those student loans. I grew up and became a teacher, a choir director, an actor. And I didn't make much money.I married a corporate guy, and things slowly changed for me. We both had bills, but all of a sudden I could go on a vacation once a year. Or afford that outfit. Or just go out to dinner at a nice restaurant - often! My hubby tells me that I had that "poor girl" mentality for a long time (no, I can't afford that!), but I've learned to think more positive. See possibilities. Jump at opportunities. An

I'm LEAVING!
2007-04-14 02:47:00
I'm GOING!ALMOST done packing. I need to clean the kitchen, unplug some stuff, hide some stuff and pack up the van. We are going to set the clock for 4am and try to get out on the road as soon as possible. HA!The kids are all wound up. They are in bed and hopefully they are sleeping! We'll just put them in the van asleep if we have to. No big shakes! And I think I'm starting to get excited!Hubby is right now driving the pups over to our friends' house - that was kinda sad for me, but I know they'll be happier there than being stuck in their kennels most of the time at the vet (they also kennel animals). It's quiet here. It's like the calm before the storm! So I'll sign off now. I'll have my hubby's laptop, so I'll check in when I can. And I WILL TRY to write about my adventures as I go, so don't LEAVE ME HERE ALONE! hehe... I apologize in advance for not being able to read your blogs much while I'm away - I promise that I'll catch up with you when I return! A

Vacation with Plastic Bags and Wet Wipes
2007-04-26 18:16:00
More vacation talk!We got on the road @6am Saturday morning, making it to North Carolina that night. The next day we drove thru some rain (and we were glad that we missed all the snow and rain up here last week - GROSS!) & arrived in sunny Florida Sunday night. The trip went well - the kids travel well (people are so amazed by that!), so no big issues except for a poop accident by Pumpkin. We ultimately suffered thru a couple of such incidents, one of which was NOT easily cleaned up. Never mind. Mama here took care of it, of course. And let's just say that my son now prefers SHOWERS over baths.Monday we went to Seaworld. The last time (and only other time I've been) there, we had 2 kids, and Princess was small. We enjoyed Shamu, the sealions, the dolphins; stingrays and penguins. It was all about the shows, and not the rides. We all loved it!Tuesday was a rest day. No parks. No traveling far. We ended up hanging by the pool, eating at Joe's Crab Shack (LOVE the playsc
