Are Conservationists Messing With Evolution ? 2007-03-02 05:06:31
Let's forget about homo sapiens for a moment, and consider our planet as a living entity co-existing in a symbiotic environment with all creatures upon it. Without any 'higher intelligence' interfering with nature as it is, Evolution
would be allowed to take it's course.
Without interference, life would be going along this path unimpeded. Where and how lifeforms end up, is determined by their natural run, influenced by the environment, symbiotic creatures and competing creatures which have survivability traits. Essentially, this is Charles Darwins theory of Natural Selection.
If these species with unsurvivable or unfavorable traits where left to expire in their natural course, they would be replaced by new or possibly evolved species to occupy the space left behind.
Are humans, specifically conservationists, hindering the progress of Evolution by preventing the extinction of a species or change in habitat? Continue reading "Are Conservationists Messing With Evolution ?"
Paris Sent to Jail, Out, then back In again. 2007-06-09 08:29:04 Paris Hilton goes back to jail.
Originally sentenced to 45 days jail on 5 May 2007 for driving under the influence without a licence, her sentence was reduced to 23 days 2 weeks later.
Entering jail on 5th June after the MTV Awards, she stayed for a mere 3 days before being allowed out of jail for a mysterious 'medical condition', where she remained in luxury under house arrest. The presiding judge was extremely displeased the judicial system had been made a mockery of, re-sentencing Paris to the full 45 day term back in jail!
The public has been outraged that a celebrity has been treated differently and let out of jail in the first place. Read more:Paris
Paris Sent Back to Jail 2007-06-09 08:29:04 Paris Hilton goes back to jail.
Originally sentenced to 45 days jail on 5 May 2007 for driving under the influence without a license, her sentence was reduced to 23 days 2 weeks later.
Entering jail on 5th June after the MTV Awards, she stayed for a mere 3 days before being released out of jail due to a mysterious 'medical condition', where she remained in luxury under house arrest.
Within hours, an online petition appeared, demanding her return to jail. Comments flooded in to gossip and serious newspaper sites, most expressing outrage at Hilton's release.
The presiding judge was extremely displeased the judicial system had been made a mockery, re-sentencing Paris to serve out the rest of the 23 day term back in jail.
It was a rare moment in Los Angeles, where badly behaving celebrities can seemingly get away with many things. Read more:Paris
Cars 2007-12-11 21:14:00 Will we be living the Jetson's lifestyle of flying vehicles? Definitely not in the next 50 years, or even 100 years. Beyond that I wont speculate.
Let's look 25 years ahead. Cars will still be rolling on the ground with wheels. Our cars wont be hovering on magnetic fields or fancy anti-gravity devices. Will cars be driverless - where we can just sit back and let the car take us where we want to go? I think we will definitely have driverless vehicles in military situations. We already have AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles) and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and the military of the future will certainly be using robot-controlled ground vehicles too.
But what about us normal citizens? I think not, as least not where its common. Yes, our cars will be far more sophisticated with powerful computers analysing the surroundings, preventing accidents, and leading us to our destinations. But I think we will still be sitting at the wheel (or some kind of control mechanism) and we will sti
Computer Games 2007-12-01 00:05:00 From this:
Dig Dug 1982
To this:
Heavenly Sword 2007
To view this difference is quite striking. In 25 years, computer games have come from flat 2D graphics with tweets for sound to very realistic flowing graphics and 7.1 digital surround sound environments.
How will computer games look and feel in another 25 years? I believe the difference between Heavenly Sword in 2007 and Mr McGoo's Fantabulous Treat (I made it up) in 2032 will be just as striking!
Not only will games look and sound extremely realistic, it will be indistinguishable from real life video footage. Games
will be a perfect simulation of reality, in terms of the visual and auditory aspects. I believe simulating character behaviour and facial expressions may be the next big hurdle for game makers in 2032. In 2032, simulating animals and using fluid dynamics and particle physics to simulate environments will all be old hat. Making human characters look and act convincingly will be much harder.
It's easy to imagine com Read more:Computer
Climate Change 2007-11-01 00:07:00 Climate change - or more importantly - human induced climate change is an increasingly conscious issue. Predicting the outcome is rather difficult. There are so many variables that will effect the outcome, and climate change is a very slow process.
For one thing, human induced climate change by hooning around in our little cars is minuscule in comparison to how dramatic a major volcanic eruption can be on the environment. Let's put this in perspective. We could go through this huge effort over the next 50-100 years to curb CO2 emissions, causing financial hardship for business and governments, potentially leading to localised violence and poverty - all to be overshadowed by 1 single natural process like a major volcanic eruption. Or a series of earthquakes releasing megatonnes of sequestered CO2 from within the Earth. These aren't impossible events. They have already happened many many times in the Earth's history. Sure, they are rare over long time spans, but it has happened in th Read more:Change

Stem Cell Therapy 2008-01-22 19:59:50 I'm just going to come out and say it. In the future, there will be children with 2 biological fathers, or 2 biological mothers, or....now get this ... only 1 biological parent.
Without going into technical detail, researchers have found a way to change certain types of human cells into other types of cells. So they can change skin cells into heart muscle cells, or skin cells into sperm cells, or egg cells.
For example, Mr Scientist takes some of your skin cells. Quite easy and not painful, he just scrapes some skin into a container. In his laboratory, through the application of special techniques of cell manipulation, changes your skin cells into sperm cells. OK, but what if you're a woman? Hey, no problem! Your skin cells can be turned into sperm cells. And if you're a dude? No worries Read more:Therapy
