Skeet Ulrich on the End of the World 2007-03-06 12:56:48 SkeetUlrich
, who plays Jake Green on Jericho, was recently interviewed by Terry Morrow for AZNightBuzz.com, and he talks about how Jericho really isn’t that far off the mark in the great “What If” scenario of Apocalyptic Mayhem that Jericho delivers every Wednesday on CBS.
Ulrich says the ideas of what life will be like after such an attack are leftovers from the Cold War era of the 1950s when American schoolchildren were told to duck under their desks to avoid radiation.
“It’s kind of amazing when I hear from (viewers) about what should have happened,” he says.
They discuss the concept of a nuclear winter, and that the advisors that they have for the show work closely with the writers to make sure they’re as authentic as possible, though some of the science used on the show does have its detractors on the internet and elsewhere.
They also talk to Executive Producer John Turteltaub about the critics of some of the technical aspects, and he Read more:World

Carol Barbee Interview - Subject 2 Discussion 2007-03-05 13:08:13 Carol
Barbee, Executive Producer of Jericho, was interviewed by S2DRadio.com on Tuesday, February 27, where they discussed everything under the sun in regards to Jericho.
One of the first things that they discuss is coming back from the must-discussed hiatus and how they are still trying to figure out exactly how strong they came back, because of the numbers-skewing American Idol being against the show since they’ve come back from hiatus. While they were second in ratings with the first full episode, they are looking at changing their schedule for next year to go to a full 22 episodes starting in January. While nothing official has been said about Jericho getting a second season from CBS, this comment for the changes in scheduling for next year truly makes me happy.
Also discussed is the impact of the Jericho web presence provided by CBS, from the web-episodes of Countdown to the Wiki. The push from their web presence is something that I think has carried the show through the h Read more:Discussion
Jericho Stars at Wondercon 2007-03-02 13:16:54
Anyone in the San Francisco-Bay Area this weekend (March 2-4, 2007) really should check out Wondercon at the Moscone Center South in San Francisco, California. While they have a jam-packed schedule, there will also be a Exclusive Episode Screening and Panel Discussion with executive producers Carol Barbee and Stephen Chbosky, along with Skeet Ulrich (Jake Green) and Ashley Scott (Emily Sullivan).
Be the first to see this never before seen new episode of CBS’s hit drama series Jericho
, followed by a panel discussion with Chbosky, Barbee, and stars Skeet Ulrich (Scream) and Ashley Scott (Dark Angel). Moderated by Craig Tomashoff, TV Guide’s West Coast bureau chief.
Being a long-time convention-goer, I highly recommend everyone who can to go, whether you’re a Jericho fan or not.

Alicia Coppola Becomes Regular Cast Member 2007-02-28 13:25:55
Attention all Stanley and Mimi (Steamy!) fans! Alicia
Coppola, who plays Mimi Clark, has been moved from a recurring guest character on Jericho to a regular cast member, says the Hollywood Reporter (link is to movieweb.com, since it doesn’t require paid registration).
I’m so glad that we’ll be seeing more of everyone’s favorite Fish Out of Water IRS auditor, especially to see how the relationship between Stanley (Brad Beyer) and her grows. Maybe it’s just that I’m partial to non-triangle relationships, a la the Jake/Heather/Emily (and now adding in Roger - does that make it a square relationship?) relationship, which I’ve not been terribly fond of. While Stanley and Mimi’s relationship is a touch textbook in its opposites-attract theory, it seems less contrived than Jake and his “playa” status. Of course, if we could just have Sprague Grayden (Heather) back in the show…
As to Alicia Coppola the actress, I’ve been Read more:Member

Jericho Loses to American Idol 2007-02-26 12:56:47 While I would love to say that Jericho
held its own with American
Idol last week, but I’d be lying.
In the fall, Jericho did not have to compete against the unstoppable ratings juggernaut that is American Idol
. I’m sure CBS was hoping that the American Idol viewers wouldn’t overlap with the Jericho fans. They thought wrong. Everybody watches American Idol, and no one seems willing to give up their Idol fix in favor of anything else being offered on TV.
Jericho is just one in the line of many shows who have been decimated by the American Idol empire. It’s unfortunate. This bizarre scenario is getting to the point where other networks might as well not even try to put anything against American Idol. It’s not Jericho’s fault, really. No one wants a piece of Idol these days, nor should they. Even Lost, one of the most popular shows on TV, boasting maybe the most loyal fan base in all of television, had to change time slots to avoid American Ido
BuddyTV - Michael Gaston Interview 2007-02-23 12:31:52
BuddyTV has an exclusive interview with Michael
Gaston, who plays Gray Anderson, newly-elected mayor and salt mine owner of Jericho. He talks about how he got into acting (He initially wanted to be a teacher, but the teachers that he talked to said that it was a thankless career) and how he got involved with Jericho. He said that he was initially approached to play Johnston, but after reading through the pilot script, decided that Gray Anderson looked more interesting, and closer to his age. They told him to prep both for the audition, and ended up getting the offer from Jericho at the same time as an offer came through for another TV show.
I actually auditioned for a show called Standoff and had been offered a part on that, and so this was the first time in my life that I had two people that wanted me at the same time and it really worked in my favor. Jericho made an offer really fast and I was ecstatic because I was so thrilled by the idea and the part, and John Turtletaub, who I
S2DRadio Interview 2007-03-07 17:00:43 I had a blast talking to the guys from S2DRadio.com last night about Jericho, though I was a little paranoid following up the Carol Barbee interview last week. But they really made me feel welcome, and of course having Jericho as a topic of discussion was an easy way to keep me chatting the half-hour away.
We ranged in topics from the common themes occurring in both Jericho and Battlestar Gallactica to who we think will be cast as the “Old Man” that Sara is bringing Hawkins to see, along with the Carol Barbee interview and who my favorite character is at the moment (if you couldn’t tell from some of my recent posts, it’s Heather). They’ve asked me back, which I think is one of the best compliments that I’ve received since starting this.

CBS News Replacing YouTube Videos 2007-03-12 12:49:13
While not exactly dealing with Jericho, CBS News
announced that they’re pulling all of the illegal copies on YouTube
for their shows, but instead of just leaving people hanging, they’ll be adding in their own versions on YouTube at their channel.
“We’ve got a team of lawyers that goes through pirated CBS News videos on YouTube and calls up YouTube every day and says ‘you’ve got to take down these clips’. Every pirated 60 Minutes clip that goes up on YouTube, we’re putting up the authentic, authorized version of that clip. We’re sensitive. If we’re going to take down that illegal video, we are certainly going to give you the experience of that piece [by supplying a new clip] and often the quality is considerably better.”
The fact that they’re putting up their own versions on YouTube really speaks for the fact that they’re really aware of the way the web is changing the way to promote things.

Skeet Ulrich on The View 2007-03-13 13:09:11
While I was stressing and talking about being interviewed for the first time, Winnie over at Watching The View got to see SkeetUlrich
on the show last week, which is about half-way down in the post.
Skeet was there to promote Jericho, of course, and there were a few great nuggets of what to expect in some coming episodes, in particular about Episode 18.
He said that episode 18, which will air in a few weeks, will be a “big deal,” and viewers will learn a little about why Jericho is still there and other mysteries. Skeet said that viewers will get a lot of clues this season, but it won’t answer all of their questions.
He’s been on The View before back in November, but I’ve not been able to sit down and watch the video yet.

Ratings Down After Hiatus 2007-03-14 12:48:40
While coming in second to American Idol is no mean feat, there’s still a wide gap between first and second place when it comes to the behemoth that is American Idol.
But it’s not just Jericho that’s suffering against American Idol, it’s most shows that have come back from winter break.
Jericho’s split schedule may have damaged its ratings, but returning it against Idol didn’t help either. CBS execs declined to comment for this article, but several advertisers agreed that the network should counter-program the time slot more aggressively, perhaps with another episodic series. “There’s enough occasional viewing of Idol to interrupt the serialized pattern of a show like Jericho,” Rash explained.
Like I’ve said around here before, I’ve never been a fan of American Idol, and while I wasn’t terribly happy about the winter break in Jericho, I don’t see how it’s really hurt the show as much as the article suggests. The fan-ba Read more:Ratings

Is Jericho Getting the Ax? 2007-03-16 13:40:31 Variety seems to think that there’s a possibility that Jericho
may get cancelled at the end of the season.
Eye execs are keeping a close watch on the show. If things don’t get better once “Idol” moves out of its path, this promising hour might be in jeopardy — despite strong internal support for the skein.
Of course, I think it was a poor choice to bring Jericho back right after American Idol started up for the season, hoping that they would get an episode or two of the Spring Season under their belt before that juggernaut AI got up and running, but as that didn’t happen, I don’t think that a strong second place behind American Idol would mean that they’re doing badly. I am afraid of what they’re saying though, thinking that many people, once they’ve decided they’ve lost the plot-line will just not go back to the show, but I still have hope left out for this great show.

Are you an “internet nut”? 2007-03-19 13:04:27 Brian Lowry over at Variety has an article about how he thinks that the networks, including CBS, are stressing on the internet too much, by catering to us “internet nuts” and neglecting all the others that aren’t terribly web-savvy.
Buoyed by their novelty, producer podcasts and online games, deleted scenes and character blogs have become all the rage. Still, this whole trend is bubbling along without much mind to its inevitable limits, as defined by the majority of consumers with little demonstrable appetite for chatting, playing along or making their own films using pre-approved toolkits.
As evidence, consider a new survey by Knowledge Networks/SRI, analyzing use of network Web sites. Despite the many new features available, the report notes, the most-used attribute “is quite pedestrian: checking the broadcast schedule” to see when shows are airing. By contrast, less than 5% of Web site users polled said they use the sexiest, most-discussed elem
Blurring the Lines Between Fact and Fiction 2007-03-20 12:50:13
Brian Montopoli at CBS News questions how shows like Jericho and 24 are warping the way that people see the world, especially in regards to terrorism and the government. He uses the example of the Countdown episodes available on the official Jericho site, saying that they first seem a little too contrived, but there are probably people who are taking the dramatizations that they show as gospel.
“24″ is a fictional show that feels real, if outlandish. “Countdown” is something else - a (admittedly bare bones) fictional drama infused with actual journalism. As the Times notes, “[e]ditor Tom Costantino relies heavily on CBS’ archival footage, splicing interviews with analysts from the Council on Foreign Relations and the New York City Fire Department’s hazmat team with scenes of nuclear bomb detonations and military maneuvers.”

Jericho At PaleyFest ‘07 Review 2007-03-21 12:40:43 Jericho panel at PaleyFest 2007 - Source: WireImage
The cast and crew of Jericho got a warm reception back on March 15, 2007 at the Museum of Television and Radio’s William S. Paley Television Festival, IGN reports. They presented a panel and advance screening of Semper Fidelis the night before it aired nationally.
Steinberg recalled how Jericho began as an idea he and Schaer had for a “little character drama” film, where the characters would exist with the post-Nuclear setting as a backdrop. However, they realized that story didn’t have a natural ending after two hours, “So why not keep going?” - Thus the idea of turning it into a TV series began. The pair brought the idea to Jon Turteltaub, who then commissioned Chbosky to write the pilot. The producers recalled that Chbosky’s reaction to the initial treatment was, “It’s great, [but] we could use some girls, a little kissing, and some laughs.”

New Sneak Peek for Winter’s End 2007-03-22 12:47:18 So, there I was, last night, getting my daughter ready for bed, and preparing everything in my head for getting the recap to Winter’s End up and running. And then I sit down and check my Tivo, and nothing’s been recorded. What?!?!
Yeah, I completely blanked that there was no episode last night. Did you?
To keep us occupied, though, CBS has a sneak peek and a preview for next week’s episode, Winter’s End. While from everything I’ve read, the big thing is with April and the complications with her pregnancy, the sneak peek that they have up is for a Hawkins-centric scene, where he’s trying to hide Sara’s body. I do love that the guy from Psych (another favorite of mine) who plays Detective Lassiter, Timothy Omundson makes an appearance, even though it’s not on his IMDB profile.

Why Jericho Wasn’t On 2007-03-23 12:14:00 So, after some intense googling, I finally found out a real explanation as to why Jericho
wasn’t on this past Wednesday, when I had completely forgotten. It was because of the OTHER Reality TV juggernaut, Survivor. They had “rested” Survivor because of the NCAA Men’s Tournament, and then brought it back this week on Wednesday, temporarily replacing Jericho.
Yes, never fear, Dear Reader, it is temporary from everything that I’ve been able to read. Winter’s End comes back next week, and everything should be hunky-dory for the rest of the season, in regards to the time slot.
From a technical standpoint, there have been some hiccups on the server that Watching Jericho is hosted on. Everything seems to be working alright now, but in case you have any problems, I thought y’all might like to know. They’re working on it, I promise.

News About Heather 2007-03-26 13:49:29 It’s really not a secret that I adore the character of Heather

At least Kristen over at E! Entertainment is looking out for me.

We’ve gotten quite a few questions in this vein, and when I pressed Skeet Ulrich for info, he told me, “We definitely see Heather again, [but] I don’t know what the chances are of us hooking up. I’m not saying we won’t, but I’d give it about 10 to 1 odds right now.”

“Broadcast News” Inspiration in charge of “Countdown” Webisodes 2007-03-28 13:52:36
The woman who was the inspiration for Holly Hunter’s character in the 1987 movie, Broadcast
News, Susan Zirinsky, is in charge
of the “webumentaries” available on the Jericho Official Site called Countdown
.
“A lot of the Internet stuff is a recitation of what we already know,” said Ghen Maynard, the CBS executive vice president who oversees the network’s new media programming. “To do it in a way that’s really original to what is airing, but not a boring recitation of facts - that’s really what we’re going for.”
Zirinsky said that merging the genres doesn’t undermine the series’ journalistic value. “What we want is, in an interesting way, to impart a nugget of information,” she said. “The drama? It’s just the appetizer. The meat of the course is still what we do for a living.

Brad Beyer Dishes About New Bern 2007-03-30 14:17:27
Brad Beyer, who plays “Nice Guy” Stanley Richmond on Jericho, recently sat down for an interview with Megan Cherkezian from TVGuide.com, talking about the direction that last night’s episode, Winter’s End, took for his character and the show.
TVGuide.com spoke with Beyer about his character’s friendly disposition, and how that might change in upcoming episodes. Tight-lipped with regard to the big bombshells, Beyer couldn’t divulge too much, but shares enough to get us excited for the rest of the season — and hope for the show’s renewal.
What I love is him giving a glimpse into Stanley’s character, in particular with doing the responsible thing when Bonnie and he lost their parents and he took over the running of the farm, versus going off on a grand adventure. He also talks about the characters interaction with the people of New Bern, including some scoop on Heather and the turbines.

Lennie James Talks Jericho 2007-04-02 14:19:00
Jason Van Horn of IGN TV recently talked with Lennie James
(Robert Hawkins) about Jericho
, Paleyfest, hiding his British accent and acting.
One of the things that attracted me to Jericho was when I was speaking to my friends back in England or my friends out here, and when they say, “What have you read or what have you liked?” And you describe the other pilots and the other films, and they go, “Oh, so it’s like such and such or it’s like such and such, oh yeah I can kinda understand that.” But when I described Jericho to them, when I described the basic premise of Jericho as much as I understood at that particular moment - a small town cutoff from the rest of America after America has been hit by a series of nuclear attacks and it doesn’t know how much of America has survived, who hit them, doesn’t know why they were hit, doesn’t know if they are about to be hit, doesn’t know how much longer they have on the planet - when yo
