Distancing Jericho from Lost 2007-04-03 14:27:28
While I don’t think that Jericho
would ever have gotten the greenlight without Lost’s success, since Lost hasn’t been doing all that well lately, with critics and fans alike, producers have been trying to distance themselves from the castaways by promising the all-important closure to story arcs that Lost doesn’t always seem to follow through with, speaking about it at Wondercon recently.
Barbee also promised that viewers are on the verge of discovering who exactly began the nuclear conflict that left our Kansas-based heroes in prairie isolation.
“I think you’ll be surprised by who did it,” Barbee said. We didn’t want to do the same-old, same-old… It’s a many-faceted group that is involved.
I’m glad to see that there will be some answers given, and I hope that we’ll get to see a second season for the ones that I’m sure will pop up once the initial answers are received.

Skeet Ulrich Interviews 2007-04-05 14:00:44
Unfortunately, my recap of One Man’s Terrorist is going to have to be delayed due to a missing (stuffed toy) puppy and an inconsolable 5-year-old who won’t let me watch my own shows until it’s found….
But, I do have some really great interviews with SkeetUlrich
that came across my feed reader recently that I thought would sate y’all until tomorrow.
Over at ExtraTV.com, Skeet talks about Jericho and celebrity culture, though that photo with the article is a little scary, and the best of in the world has named Skeet the Best TV Hero, and you can log in there and vote as to whether or not they’re right.

Dr. Kenchy is My Favorite Daily Show Correspondant 2007-04-04 14:01:51
Ever since they introduced the character of Dr. Kenchy Dhuwalia back in Episode 8, Rogue River, I’ve been trying to figure out where it is that I’ve seen Aasif Mandvi before, and after seeing this post over at I Am A TV Junkie, I finally realized that he’s done some of my favorite sketches recently on the Daily
Show. When I take a look at his IMDB profile I see he’s been on CSI, Spiderman 2 and even Sex and the City, so no wonder I feel like he’s so familiar to me.
I’m really glad that they’ve worked him into being more than the town drunk in Jericho, and I hope that they do even more with his character.
See his official site A great fansite here. EDIT: I thought that assifmandvi.net was the official site, but I received an email from the owners of the site to let me know that it’s a very well-put-together fansite.

Season Finale Date Set 2007-04-06 14:06:12 Mark your calendars, because the season finale has been set for Jericho as May 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, reports SCI FI Wire. Along with the date, they’ve also posted an “official” spoiler from CBS.
In it, one of the town’s leaders will not survive when Jericho must defend itself against an attack by the citizens of the nearby city.
While I promised a recap of One Man’s Terrorist yesterday, non-blogging life has unfortunately taken over with problems at work taking up my spare time, so it will be this weekend before I can get a chance to do the write-up, but my money’s on Gray to bite the bullet. Of course, they could pull a switch-a-roo on us still.

Still a Chance to Save Jericho? 2007-04-09 14:12:17
Even Skeet Ulrich is upset about how it seems that Jericho
might not be seeing a second season as it stands.
“People don’t get much of a chance to stay with shows these days, because of these scheduling decisions and the lack of patience by networks to give shows a chance to find an audience,” Ulrich says. “Given the way things are today, (late bloomer) “M*A*S*H’ wouldn’t have made it.”
Ulrich sat down with Susan Young of Inside the Bay Area and discussed how he thought that the long hiatus over the winter hurt the chances of early favorite Jericho getting picked up by CBS for a second season. What Susan has done is list the contact information for her favorite shows that are in danger at the end of her article, which I’ve reproduced the CBS contact information below.

Robbie Thompson - Writer for Jericho 2007-04-11 14:06:11 Robbie Thompson
, who wrote the upcoming episode of Jericho
, Episode 18: A.K.A., was recently interviewed by Emiliana Sandoval from the Detroit Free Press, where he talked about his growing up in Michigan, working with the writers of Jericho, and tonight’s episode of Jericho.
Thompson says the “Jericho” writers feel like a family.
“It’s such a collaborative medium. Everyone wants the show to be as good as it can be. This is the most fun I’ve ever had. It’s like getting paid to go to camp.”
His boss asked him whether he wanted to write Episode 18, and he jumped at the chance.
He wrote it in Ferndale, at his girlfriend’s house, during the Christmas break.

Skeet Ulrich Makes TV Guide’s “Sexiest” 2007-04-10 13:40:35
I’ve been meaning to post this for a little while, but with all of the scare coming about with Jericho’s renewal in question, it got shuffled aside.
SkeetUlrich
made it into the Top 10 of TV Guide
’s Sexiest Stars on Television, placing at number 7 for the men. He shares the list with stars from Lost, Heroes and Ugly Betty, all some of my favorite shows on this season.
Considering most of the coverage that Skeet has gotten since he showed up on the scene many years ago, most memorably for me, Scream, it’s not really surprising that with the media coverage that Jericho has been getting he’s made it on the list this year.
I just hope that this means that Jericho’s getting enough coverage to have us see a second season coming.

TV Squad Gives A.K.A. a 6 out of 7 2007-04-13 13:50:48
TV Squad
has a wonderful review of Wednesday night’s episode, A.K.A., of which I’ve still only gotten to see a smidgen of. Their description of the episode can be summed up in two words, “Beef Stew.” Not sure what I’m talking about?
Beef Stew. That’s what I call an episode like tonights. Plenty of great information to sink your teeth into. Let’s get right to it.
Now I’m even more upset that I can’t seem to get my Tivo to respond, or to keep my neighbors from scamming enough of my wifi bandwidth to make watching the episode online a viable option.

When It Rains… 2007-04-12 13:43:00 It pours… My Tivo is currently in ICU as of last night, due to some kind of glitch that has made it impossible for me to do a somewhat live recap of the show. I’ll have to wait until CBS posts the full episode sometime today to be able to watch the episode.
Meanwhile, check out Television Without Pity’s got a great recap of One Man’s Terrorist up, and Boxxet has, as always, some of the best information about Jericho out on the ‘net, with a wonderful interface for user input.
Hopefully I can either get my Tivo fixed, or I’ll be using the full episode feature thanks to CBS tomorrow night.
CBS Signs with Joost 2007-04-16 13:42:44
CBS Networks has announced that they are the first network to sign with the new service, Joost
, which is a On-Demand Broadband TV service which will launch soon, though you can use the Beta now.
Broadband TV start-up Joost has scored a major coup, netting a deal with CBS to add the entire CSI franchise to its service, plus a string of the US network’s other hits including NCIS, Numb3rs and Showtime Boxing.
The partnership marks another major vote of confidence in Joost, set up by Skype founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, coming soon after the company signed up Viacom in February.
While I’ve not used their beta version yet, it will be nice to have another outlet to be able to catch up with Jericho on the internet.

Some Conspiracies Solved 2007-04-17 13:40:56
Well, with A.K.A.’s “big reveal”, we do have some of the “Who” solved in regards to Who Dropped the Bombs, as Ellen Gray points out in her article for philly.com.
Meanwhile, on CBS’ “Jericho,” we’ve learned - at least I think we’ve learned - that someone from the Department of Homeland Security was behind the nuclear devastation of much of the United States.
Oh, and that western Kansas is some kind of fallout-free zone. In case you’re looking to move.
While I don’t have fond memories of my time in Kansas (you can read about it at my personal blog, if you’ve got the time), the fact that it does seem to be a “fallout-free” zone is a little more appealling to me.

He gets Hawkins and together, they head to New Bern to investigate and end up uncovering a dangerous secret about New Bern’s plans for the future. CBS renewing Jericho? 2007-04-18 14:18:30
That sound you hear emanating from the Southeast? That was my girlish squeal of glee.
SyFy Portal has a wonderful (if true) rumor that CBS will be picking up Jericho
for a second season, despite falling ratings since coming back from hiatus.
A source tells SyFy Portal that CBS is expected to pick up “Jericho” for a second season, although it may move to a new night when fall rolls around. The show has had a tough time against competition such as “American Idol” on Fox this spring after its return, but the network has shown nothing but promise for the show, giving it a full season order when some thought it might be heading to the big one-season place in the sky.
I’m terrified that this is only a rumor, but I’m still holding out hope that it’s true, because whenever I hear anyone associated with the show is so wonderfully passionate in regards to the show. I do like the fact that they are saying that if when it does get renewed they’re
Sprague Grayden Interview on About.com 2007-04-20 14:15:12
In trying to find out more information on Heather (without being too spoiler-like, go read my recap of Casus Belli for the reason why), I came across a wonderful interview on About.com where Sprague Grayden chatted with Rachel Thomas, though I can’t seem to find any date on it to tell me how old it is, though she does mention something about a “budding triangle” between Heather, Jake and Emily, so it’s most likely from before the winter break. It does have some great nuggets, though, especially when Sprague talks about playing “sweet” Heather.
“This is the first time I’ve really been able to play “sweet,” I’ve never really been asked to play “sweet” in the past. Even if I played “sweet,” it was always with a bad girl history, sort of a wounded cub thing and I love it, it’s fun. There’s something really challenging about playing someone as grounded as Heather. I think Heather represen

Interview in Syracuse Post-Standard 2007-04-24 13:40:56 Last week, I was contacted by William LaRue of the Syracuse

, of Syracuse, New York, to add a fan’s perspective to Jericho. He said that what caught his attention was that in Episode 1.13 - Black Jack, the map that they show for a moment at the Fairgrounds shows one of the new “governments” set up in Upstate New York, but debate has been raging as to where the actual base is located.
Well, yesterday morning, I got to see my 15 minutes of fame. I really enjoyed talking with Mr. LaRue, though I do wish that I hadn’t gone all “Valley Girl” with the “likes” in the quote that he ended up using. Though it is cool that I ended up in a couple of paragraphs in the article.

Lennie James On His Audition for Jericho 2007-04-23 14:37:03
Lennie James
recently chatted with Janice Littlejohn of the Associated Press and discussed his audition for Jericho
, stating that he had promised his friends that he wouldn’t tell the story any more, so I guess by telling Ms. Littlejohn, he wouldn’t have to anymore.
When British actor Lennie James arrived in Los Angeles early last year, he gave himself three months to get a gig. After three weeks, he’d been offered two.
“I promised my mates I wouldn’t tell the story again,” jokes James, who landed his role on “Jericho” after his first audition — almost unheard of in Hollywood.
I really couldn’t think of a better person to play Robert Hawkins than Lennie James, as he seems to really get involved with his character. Of course, listening to him speak in his natural voice, versus the American accent that he puts on with playing Hawkins seems a little out of place for our favorite undercover CIA agent.

Serial Dramas Thrive Off of Conspiracies 2007-04-25 14:02:53
MediaWeek.com has an interesting interview with Carol Barbee, one of the executive producers for Jericho, and one of the most passionate cheerleaders for Jericho’s survival.
Carol Barbee, an executive producer on CBS’ Jericho, likened the structure of conspiracy shows to that of video games, whereby players win entry into more challenging tiers. “At the end of the season, there will be payoffs in terms of the mysteries that are revealed,” she said. But Barbee added those mysteries will “open up to the next level of mysteries.”
The article goes on to talk about how conspiracies seem to be driving serial dramas nowadays, and how it seems to be a sign of the times.

Jericho’s Ratings Stay Steady 2007-05-02 13:51:38
SyFy Portal is reporting that Jericho
dipped a little in ratings last week, though it has stayed relatively steady. What caused the dip in ratings? That old nemesis, American Idol, and their charity show.
“Jericho” on CBS also stayed steady, posting a 5.0/9, slightly down from the 5.2/8 it earled last week. Some of that drop was because of its competition, however, as Fox was broadcasting an “American Idol” telethon that raised more than $30 million, instead of its usual “Bones.” That telethon earned a 13.9/23 for Fox.
I’m hoping that whenever word does come down that CBS has renewed Jericho for its second season, they move it far, far away from American Idol. All of the shows’ rating woes seem to stem from something to do with it.

Jericho is Must-See Sci-Fi TV 2007-05-01 14:02:31 Jericho
has made Julio Ojeda-Zapata’s Must-see sci-fi TV list for his article on TwinCities.com.
Remember when I complained about how this CBS show about Armageddon was waaay too kumbaya-y? Disregard. It’s getting nice ‘n’ nasty as Jericho and the nearby town of New Bern devolve into rival city-states. Looks like war erupts Wednesday night. New Bern would appear to have the edge with all those stockpiled mortars, but our heroes have their own superweapon in Robert Hawkins. He’ll come up with something.
I have to agree with him, I’d rather have Robert Hawkins on my side than all of the mortars that New Bern can produce.

CBS Figures Out What to Do With Jericho 2007-04-30 13:42:13
Variety.com has a wonderful write-up of what CBS’s plans for the coming season, with the pick-ups and break-ups, with everything on CBS’s line-up, including Jericho
.
Toughest decision facing CBS suits is what to do with “Jericho,” the spooky Wednesday drama that’s got a decent dose of buzz but just so-so ratings. Execs have been pleased with its creative direction, so it’ll be interesting to see how much patience the usually trigger-happy net has with a show it loves.
I’m hoping that patience does win out in the end, because I think that Jericho is a good enough show to last, especially if things like a long hiatus and coming back from that long hiatus to go head-to-head with American Idol aren’t in that future.

While they were tight-lipped on spoilers for the Season Finale (You are watching it tonight, aren’t you?), they did give a really wonderful feel for how the show’s focus is going and where it will lead.
