CHAMPIONS LEAGUE REPORT 2007-03-07 22:47:00 KAKA THE HEROAC MILAN - CELTIC FC 0:0 FT 1:0 AETKaka 93'AC Milan advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the sixth succession season but they needed extra-time to secure a 1-0 victory over Celtic FC at San Siro. Kaká finished clinically after a brilliant run three minutes into supplementary time as the six-times champions finally breached Celtic's resolute rearguard and silenced the vociferous away support. The game started brightly with Artur Boruc in the action after just four minutes when Paolo Maldini found Clarence Seedorf in space. The Dutchman threaded a pass through Stephen McManus's legs to Kaká whose curling shot was palmed away by the Polish goalkeeper. Undeterred the visitors came forward themselves and had a penalty turned down a minute later when Jirí Jarošík's angled shot came off Maldini in the area. Kaká was the key figure throughout and he put Marek Jankulovski through with a perfectly-timed pass, which the Czech midfielder cut back for Fi

"We have always had a positive approach in Europe and in recent years we've had a very good record in the Champions League," he said. "Milan will adopt an offensive gameplan. We will strive to impose ourselves on the match and create as many chances as possible. How many strikers we choose to play is irrelevant. What matters is our attitude on the pitch." Like Celtic, who won 2-1 against Dunfermline Athletic FC, the Italian giants are also enjoying a return to form in Serie A and beat AC Chievo Verona 3-1 on Saturday to move to sixth

PREVIEW : CUP UEFA ROUND OF 16 2007-03-14 14:25:00 TODAY FIXTURES SECOND LEGCelta - Bremen 0-1Werder Bremen may be sitting pretty at 1-0 up ahead of the home leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie against RC Celta de Vigo, but their path to the quarter-finals may not be so smooth as they face up to a veritable injury crisis. Top scorer Miroslav Klose had to sit out Sunday's 1-1 top-of-the-table Bundesliga draw at FC Bayern München due to back pain, and although his situation has improved, he said: "I don't want to make a prognosis yet as to whether or not I will be able to play on Wednesday." Already sidelined are Ivan Klasnić, recovering from a kidney transplant, Tim Borowski following groin surgery and Frank Baumann with achilles tendon problems. To make matters worse, Bremen cannot field winter signings Peter Niemeyer and Markus Rosenberg as they are ineligible and Daniel Jensen and first-leg goalscorer Hugo Almeida are both doubtful after suffering dead legs against Bayern. Jurica Vranješ has been feeling ill and given precauti

PREVIEW : CUP UEFA 1/16 2007-03-15 18:57:00 TODAY FIXTURES19:30 Shakhtar Donetsk ? - ? SevillaSevilla FC coach Juande Ramos has described Thursday's visit to FC Shakhtar Donetsk as "a final" for the UEFA Cup holders. The Spanish side are seeking to become only the second team to retain the UEFA Cup, after Real Madrid CF's triumphs of 1985 and 1986. Their hopes hang in the balance going into the second leg of this Round of 16 tie, however, after last week's 2-2 draw at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium. "We have 90 minutes to score one more goal than our rivals, and we can't make any mistakes because this match is a final and we have to win," said Ramos. Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu agreed that the pressure was on the visitors, particularly after last Sunday's 1-0 defeat at CG Tarragona that cost Ramos's men top spot in Spain. "My counterpart [Ramos] realises how difficult it is to win the Spanish league, so he will treat the Shakhtar match like a final," said Lucescu. Shakhtar, naturally, have their own ambitions as
