BRAT! 2007-03-05 05:17:00 What's with Zane being a little brat lately. He's 25 days from his first birthday. Is there such a thing as the terrible ones? He's possessive, stubborn and has screaming, back-arching temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He fights getting his diaper changed and getting dressed. Last night he was twisting and turning as I was trying to change a very poopy diaper. I literally got shit all over my hands. Tonight after his bath he screamed and fought me trying getting a diaper and pajamas on him. To make matters worse, in the middle of the battle he decided to pee all over me and the bed. What a little butt head!Despite the brattiness, we still love him very much. We just hope he doesn't turn out to be a wild child. In other news...We also think he's going through some kind of growth spurt. He's eating insane amounts of food. Like six ounces of food in each sitting. He's always eaten more than the average kid -- even as an infant -- but wow, that's a lot. We wish he had mo
Over-Worked 2007-03-02 20:01:00 This week has been insane. I can't believe how busy I am with work. Late nights and non-stop action seem to be the norm. We have two major events coming up, accreditation self-study reports and site visits and the list goes on. So no interesting update today. But at least it's Friday. Our house is back on the market today, so hopefully it will sell quickly (cross your fingers). As for the weekend, we're getting our taxes done tomorrow morning (pray for a big refund) and we're probably going to go look at houses in a new masterplan nearby (Inspirada). We'll see what fun we can have too.Rothfamilyadventures.com
Paradise City 2007-02-27 17:01:00 My friend and former work colleague, Molly Sullivan, is about to become a star. We used to work together at a local PR firm, now she's a talented television producer and personality with her own weekly local show. She also recently authored a book, "Las Vegas Little Red Book: A Girl’s Guide to the Perfect Vegas Getaway." She has made a name for herself and has become the Las Vegas "it" girl. Now the entire country will get to know her. At 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, Paradise
City, a new reality show set in Vegas will premiere on E!. Molly is one of the stars. I encourage everyone to check it out.Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:Paradise City
Work Haters 2007-02-27 00:03:00 I found this story on MSNBC.com today to be very interesting. It's titled "Americans hate jobs more than ever: Satisfaction level hits new low, especially among younger workers." It's a survey that shows that more Americans hate their jobs now than anytime in the past 20 years. The trend is strongest among workers aged 25 or less. Apparently, in that age group only 39 percent are satisfied with their jobs. Perhaps its because most people that age grew up spoiled and have preconceived notions on what adult life is like. Here's some fun regional results of the survey. People living in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are the most disgruntled (less than 41 percent say they are satisfied with their current job), and people living in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico were most likely to whistle while they work (56 percent reported being satisfied). Yeah, we made the happy list. I think it probably has something to do with salary vs. cost-of-livin Read more:Haters
Back From Arizona 2007-02-26 01:36:00 We're back from a weekend trip to our home in Arizona
. It's going back on the market next week, so we thought we'd check in on things and make sure everything is in order. We're exhausted from the quick overnight trip, so a detailed update will have to wait.Rothfamilyadventures.com

Where To Go? 2007-02-21 18:42:00 Since my employer provides a paid summer break, we're beginning to plan a vacation for June. The question now is where should we go? There are plenty of places in the Western Hemisphere, but we're having a little trouble deciding. Below are some initial ideas, in no particular order. Please feel free to provide some input or provide other suggestions. We are limited to destinations in the continental U.S., Hawaii, Mexico or the Caribbean that are serviced by U.S. Airways.1. Belize - Low cost, beautiful2. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic3. St. Maarten/St. Martin4. St. Kitts5. Hawaii (Maui, Kauai or the Big Island)6. Miami7. I'm Ready For My Close Up 2007-02-21 00:24:00 Actually, Zane had his close up this morning. I am working on a print ad campaign for my employer and we're using Zane for one of the ads. It's a "We Grow" concept. Zane was all smiles this morning for his photo shoot. I'll have to post the final first ad when it's complete. There will be a few more ads in the campaign that will feature him. I'll post photos when we get them.Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:Close
Mixed Weekend 2007-02-19 23:35:00 This past weekend was a mix of craziness and relaxation. On Saturday in particular, we dropped off Zane to Catherine's house so Grace and I can observe Valentine's Day a few days after the fact. We first went down to the Strip to have lunch at Wynn. To call the Strip busy is an understatement. With the leftover visitors from the MAGIC convention, mixed with the thousands upon thousands of people in town for all of the NBA All Star activities, it was CHAOS. The hotels and casinos definitely made some money. After lunch on an outdoor patio next to a waterfall, we made our way through the crowd to the Venetian. There we decided to act as the tourists do and take a gondola ride in the faux canals. It was nice just to sit back and let the gondolier do all the work. After making our way back to Wynn, we headed over to Green Valley Ranch where Grace surprised me with a couple's massage at the Spa. It was amazing and perfect. The Spa was super luxurious and the massage felt great. I had neve Read more:Mixed

Fun With Lola 2007-02-17 04:50:00 Tonight Zane played with Lola, teasing her with her toy. It's the first time he's done this. I captured it with our camera, so the audio isn't very clear. Turn it up loud and you can here Zane giggle as he gives and takes the toy from Lola.Rothfamilyadventures.com
Stairmaster 2007-02-17 04:42:00 Last night Zane discovered the stairs. In fact, he climbed them so fast we were shocked. He seemed to love it. But now we have to watch him carefully. He's attracted to them now. Every chance he gets, he heads for the stairs. Here's some pictures from his first venture.Rothfamilyadventures.com
Three Seconds Of Fame 2007-02-16 03:03:00 Yesterday I attended the City of Henderson "State of the City" event at Green Valley Ranch Hotel & Casino, along with about 1,000 other local business people. A lot of media outlets were there covering the event. When I arrived at work this morning everybody was telling me about how they saw me on the news last night on the CBS affiliate. Apparently they zoomed in on me in the audience for about three seconds in their segment on the event. They went from the Mayor speaking to a close shot of me. That's amazing since there were so many other people there. I was probably the best looking person in camera range (j/k). I didn't watch the news last night so I didn't see it.Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:Three

Enough Is Enough 2007-02-15 17:13:00 I am so very tired of all the Anna Nicole Smith news. I agree that her death is tragic and sad, but let's face it, she was a trainwreck. Her death wasn't all too surprising. Of course all of the mystery surrounding her death, the baby daddy drama and everything is pretty interesting, but I don't need to hear about it all day, every day. The media outlet that is covering it the most is Entertainment Tonight. They keep showing the same things over and over again. It's pathetic. Move on to something else.Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:Enough
Feeling A Little Sleepy 2007-02-14 04:56:00 Zane's been going non stop lately. So much so that he crashes at any given moment. Here are some sleepy moments from the past week.During his dinner. In the middle of wandering around in his walker. And yes, even in the middle of his relaxing bath.Only if life for us grown ups could be so good. Back To School 2007-02-13 17:13:00 After three weeks home, Zane is finally back in daycare. He was very happy when I dropped him off this morning. He immediately took off for his little friends. I kind of cringed a bit when he started hugging Alexa, a little girl in his class. I fear him getting sick again. Hopefully he built up some immunity with all of the drugs that got pumped into his body and after battling a number of illnesses over the past couple months. We'll see.Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:School
A House Is Not A Home/Funny Zane 2007-02-12 22:28:00 Since returning to Las Vegas we've been staying at Grace's parents house as we await the sale of our home in Arizona. With the real estate marketing taking a bit of a nose dive, it's taking much longer than we anticipated to sell our home. So basically it's like living out a suitcase in a hotel room. And it's getting old real quick. All of our own furniture and belongings are still at the Arizona house, including Zane's bed. He's been sleeping in a playpen for months. It's kind of sad. He's got all of this nice stuff at the house and he hasn't used any of it for quite a while. To make matters worse, Grace's mom's is not kid proof, or even kid safe. She has glass living room furniture, doilies, vases, figurines and an ungodly amount of furniture that all seem to be in the path of Zane. It's quite worrisome as he begins to walk and get into everything. Things are going to be breaking and he's going to get a lot of bruises. It's unfortunate.Grace and I miss our very comforta Read more:House

Prayers 2007-02-08 00:38:00 It's been a busy day, so I don't have time to write a lot. The doctor called to inform us that Zane's tubes procedure has been moved up to tomorrow morning. This is due to the severity of his infection and the resulting high fevers. I took him to the doctor yesterday afternoon for another pre-op exam and then to the hospital for pre-admitting. We have to be at the hospital at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning.Although it's a simple procedure, we're getting very nervous. Zane's only 10-months-old and it breaks our hearts that he has to go through this. Please keep him in your prayers for a safe and successful procedure and speedy recovery.Thanks!p.s. I promise...I will get the Baptism photos up soon.Rothfamilyadventures.com
A World Without Fish? 2007-02-06 20:25:00 I found this article from Fortune Magazine quite interesting. Could you imagine there being no seafood within the next 50 years? I had no idea about the different types of fish that are disappearing and the environmental issues related to farm fishing. Let's see...chicken = bird flu, beef = mad cow, and no fish on the menu. Perhaps in the future I may have to rethink that vegetarian thing.Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:World

Scheduled/Warmer Weather 2007-02-05 21:55:00 We took Zane to the ENT today. Great group of doctors. And the doctor that will be putting in Zane's tubes is regarded as the best in town. He'll be performing the procedure a week from today. However, given the severity of Zane's ear infections, they are trying to juggle their schedules to get Zane in for the procedure on Thursday morning. It's going to be the only way to relieve Zane of the nightly hot fevers. It happened again last night. We're worried, as is the doctor, about him suffering from such extreme fevers repeatedly. So the earlier the better. We'll see.-------------------------It's warm finally. After enduring cold temperatures for a couple of months, we're being treated to some spring-like weather. It's 2 p.m. and 73 F and sunny outside. I wish I didn't have to work. It would be nice to get out. We can't wait to get Zane back to normal so we can go for some walks with Lola. Poor little dog is stuck indoors with brief outings in the backyard. It's been a while Read more:Warmer
Weekend Highs and Lows 2007-02-05 04:33:00 It's Sunday night and we're back from San Diego. Started our long trek at around 11:30 a.m. and arrived home at exactly 4:30 p.m. Not too bad. Zane's Baptism went pretty well. It was rough arriving at the cathedral at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, but we made it. And the service went well. There were about nine other children being baptized as well, including Brieze. During the service, as expected, Zane was being very loud. But nobody minded. During the Holy water part, Brieze screamed her head off, but Zane didn't. I think it's because he loves water. The after-party was jammed pack with food, family and friends. We had a giant bouncing castle for the dozens of children (Zane actually enjoyed it too...growing up!) and a live DJ pumped great music for all to enjoy. We were very happy that all who joined us were able to.Now for the bad low of the weekend. As the party progressed on Saturday evening, Zane came down with a fever again. He just kept getting hotter and hotter. His ears Read more:Weekend
Catholic Priest Goes Berserk 2007-02-01 17:43:00 I usually don't like to post so many times in one day, but I'm finding the news headlines today quite fascinating. Here in Las Vegas we have CatholicPriest
on the run as an armed and dangerous fugitive. I know...a priest! Last weekend he allegedly brutally attacked a woman that volunteers in the choir at the church by whacking her over the head with a wine bottle, severely beating her and sexually assaulting her. He nearly killed her. It took 20 staples to close the gash on her head. Today they are reporting two sightings of the disgraced father yesterday in Monterey, Calif. So police there searched 45 hotels and motels but haven't found him yet. He's going to be featured on America's Most Wanted this weekend. Apparently this priest, who was very well respected by church parishioners, recently told the victim that he only became a priest to escape fighting in the war in Lebanon years ago. He also told the victim that he's had "relations" with women at other churches he's worked
Paranoia 2007-02-01 17:14:00 A guerilla marketing campaign that causes Boston to virtually shut down in complete panic is just another great example of American paranoia. How do people confuse little electronic light promo signs as bombs or WMDs? I don't get it. Equally stupid is the fact that the marketing company didn't recognize the potential problems of deploying such a campaign during a post-9/11 era of fear. The guy hired by the marketing company to put up the signs in Boston and his cohort have been arrested and are now facing possible felony charges. I hardly think that's fair. I think the marketing company is a more appropriate target for any punishment, if warranted. The funny thing though is the marketing campaign was launched weeks ago and in nine other major cities as well, but it was only Boston that overreacted. What's up with Beantown?Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:Paranoia
All Night Long 2007-02-01 16:50:00 Zane seems to be getting better. Last night was the first night in more than three weeks that he actually slept all night. He woke up around 6:30 a.m., but went right back to sleep all by himself. It's just before 8 a.m. now and he's still asleep. We've missed this. It's hopefully a sign that he's getting back to normal. We'll see if he can repeat it tonight.Rothfamilyadventures.com Read more:Night
Totally Tubular 2007-01-31 06:42:00 We went to the doctor's office this evening for Zane's second of three shots to hopefully clear up his severe double ear infection. Unfortunately, his ears don't seem to be getting better. We got a referral to a pediatric ENT for an appointment ASAP. It looks like Zane will be getting tubes in his ears, which in the long run will be better for him. The good news today is his cold seems to be getting better. Last night his fever got up to 103.1 F. Today he hasn't had a fever at all. He also seems to be a little more energetic.Rothfamilyadventures.com
Flying By 2007-03-07 21:58:00 Wow...it's Wednesday already. Work has been so busy that each day finishes fast and the week is already half over. I have so much to do at work it's unbelievable. It's now just three days until my work's annual fundraising Gala. It's a formal affair in the Brasilia Ballroom at the Rio Hotel & Casino. Vegas people with money are all invited. Grace and I will be dressing up and attending (although we don't have money). I'm looking forward to the fillet Mignon and lobster dinner. I am actually on the organizing committee and it's been quite a job helping plan this huge event. I hope it goes well.Speaking of events, for anyone who's in Vegas and loves to golf, you may want to consider golfing in our annual scholarship golf tournament. It's going to be on May 7 at the super exclusive and private SouthShore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas Resort. Let me know and I can get you the information. In non-work related news, our Arizona home is back on the market. I hope it sells soon. The mark Read more:Flying

Breaking News: Zane Walks 2007-03-10 06:39:00 BREAKING NEWS...We have breaking news in Las Vegas tonight. Zane took his first steps and we captured the excitement on video. It somewhat resembled a drunken sailor, but it was walking none-the-less. It'll be a matter of days before he's running everywhere. Rebel Fever 2007-03-11 19:21:00 Last night we went the gala event I wrote about previously. It was a pretty good event with good food. But I wish I would have been at the basketball game. The UNLV Runnin' Rebel
s beat BYU at the Thomas & Mack Center to claim the Mountainwest Conference title. They're off to the NCAA Championship Tournament. It's been the most exciting season of UNLV Basketball since the team won the national title way back in 1991. They're ranked 25 in the nation. Bosch Is Coming Back 2007-03-13 00:10:00 Everyone knows I'm a huge Michael Connelly fan. I've read and own every one of this books. I especially love the crime novels featuring Harry Bosch
, an intriguing LAPD detective. Grace got me Connelly's latest Bosch novel, "Echo Park," for my birthday in October. It was released a couple days before. I read the whole thing in less than a week. I could of read it in a day. Ever since then I've been without anything exciting to read. It's been a while since I checked Connelly's Web site, so I visited it today. A what do you know, a new Bosch novel will come out on May 22. It's titled "The Overlook." I am so excited. I just wish Connelly will schedule a book signing in Vegas. It's not on his schedule yet and I don't know if it will be. Many of his novels have featured Vegas, so he may want to consider coming here if he hasn't. He came to Phoenix twice when we lived there, but I just happened to be on business trips both times, so I missed him. If you haven't read any of his boo
Fishies 2007-03-12 15:58:00 Sunday was full of excitement for Zane and me. Unfortunately, Grace had to work, so she couldn't join in the fun. We started the day at Main Street Station in Downtown for buffet brunch with Catherine and all of the Bernardo clan. It was a very large group with lots of little kids. Zane had a blast pigging out on scrambled eggs, ice cream cone and cheesecake (I know...all junk). Afterwards we all went to the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. Zane LOVED it. I wish I had brought the camera, but I forgot. I took some camera phone pics, but they're not that great. Zane was so funny. He stood up against the aquarium walls and slapped his hands against the glass while talking and yelling at the little fish, big fish, turtles and huge sharks. It was very exciting to see his reaction. Based on our outing, we'll be planning a SeaWorld trip in San Diego soon. Here are some of the phone pics. Now that it's daylight savings time and the weather is warm, we're able to enjoy the evening. Last night we
