John Hemming MP's Paediatrics Teach-In
2007-03-05 00:35:00
Class of 2007- Medical Students At John Hemming MP's Paediatric Teach-In I am quite sure that serial Philanderer John Hemming MP and "kiss the asian barrister and end the affair with a QC" title Lord Goldsmith have a lot in common. They are afterall both adulterers. They are the sort of men currently gunning for Professor David Southall. Lord Goldsmith has agreed to review the cases where Southall was a witness with a little help from Hemming. The Express headline today was one where theft of information now is considered acceptable practise. Ms Payne stole the various files containing patient data and copied them. What I want to know is did anyone ask the parents of these children to have their data strewn all over the place - from one sweaty lawyer's hands to another. Yes, sadly no regulatory body exists for misbehaving MSBP campaigners who believe that the world revolves around them. They all fail to understand that actually in the grand scale of illnesses, they are the minority.

The London Deanery - Elizabeth Paice - Can She Deal With Whistleblowers?
2007-03-04 10:19:00
Some Deans are best left with their lipstick. Best not to complicate things with whistleblowing issues.Elizabeth Paice is head of the London Deanery. We all wish to know whether she is able to deal with whistleblowers. In 1998, Professor Brenton Postgraduate Dean of UCL raised some serious issues with Ms Paice and Dr Moss regarding the serious neglect of patients. Their primary action was not to inform the Department of Health or the General Medical Council about the neglect on the ward. What Dr Paice did was to contact her mate in the University of Birmingham and advise him that I apparently required counselling. That was the extent of her concern for patients who were neglected on the ward. I find it interesting that the messenger is always shot. I remember ringing Dr Moss and asking her for help for the patients. She told me in no uncertain terms that the best thing to do would be to seek counselling. I though held the view that counselling never solved the problems on the ward. Th

Whistleblowers Cannot Report Deaths to the Coroner
2007-03-03 21:21:00
"We vote to shut down Ward 87. That way all the investigations can be stopped and the relatives don't have to be informed that patients died needlessly. Ignore the Shipman and Bristol Inquiries. No one will notice" We had the Bristol Inquiry then the Shipman Inquiry. Each failed to take into account that whistleblowers may wish to report deaths to the Coroner. Two sources now tell me that I cannot report deaths to the Coroner, one being the Coroner himself and the other being DCI Ken Raper of Staffordshire Police. Apparently, I have no rights as a doctor. I am not an " properly interested person". I am therefore going off to investigate whether they are all right in this assumption or whether they are simply leading me up the garden path again. Further updates to be placed up here as soon as I receive them. Apparently, no one is responsible for broader data investigation. I as the whistle blower ( with a small amount of data) am responsible for obtaining broader data. The hospital ha

WHO IS THE REAL BADDY?
2007-02-26 15:30:00
Sadly there was no space on the star to fit Mr John Hemmings MP. Mellor had apparently taken up the entire " Get Southall" movie. Since I was a wee nipper of a doctor, I have always been told that Professor Southall is a bad person. So, I grew up to find that there were actually far worse doctors than David Southall. I am quite positive that David Southall may not be an angel with wings but then which doctor who rises to the top of the establishment is? I am expected to believe that Southall is the real baddy without any conclusive evidence presented in my direction. If I start to question the scientific basis for the fact that Southall has been stuck on a stake for centuries, then I am unpopular. I am expected to go with the flow - to stick the knife in as everyone seems to be doing these days. I watch and stare at the media's actions, at Penny Mellor's actions and at the actions of many people who never sit to question but simply rush to attack. Its sheep like behaviour. Everyone

Its not whistleblowing - Its just my job.
2007-02-26 13:47:00
Who the hell thought of that silly word " whistleblower"? The first time I heard it was when the Daily Mail crowed away about it on one of their features on me in the year 2000. Geee, they had a bad picture of me in their papers. Seriously, trust them to pick the one with the double chin and one where I had just done a million hours oncall to pay my student debt. I am a doctor, I do my job. That is what I have always done. Whistleblowing is a crass term used to stigmatise me and doctors like me. Yes, I am stigmatised. Yes, people avoid me and yes I am who I am because I have had to be. The BMA had a whistle blowing conferences sometime ago. Probably in the year 2000. It was less publicised than Britney Spears' new Kojak hairdo. Rumour had it that many whistle blowers turned up and gave the panel a really hard time demanding answers to what had happened to them. Yes, as whistleblowers we are all meant to hide away and become really depressed and miserable. Well, I was never going to fo

The Beachcroft Fest

Rita Pal to Richard Price ( solicitor for R Pal v GMC) " What do you mean £18K can't buy a lawyer that looks like Colin Firth. What am I going to do in court when I get bored? "The Beachcroft LLP FestBeachcroft LLP is one of the healthcare law firms used by many NHS Trusts. We have received letters from Beachcroft since the dawn of time. They are featured in Chambers and Partners and what a glowing review is written.Beachcroft LLP was involved with reporting me to the General Medical Council and had engaged itself in ensuring that the GMC attempted to reverse the investigation on myself. In the year 2000, I had written to Mr Peter Steel the then Beachcroft LLP lawyer and that specific letter was referred to in the judgment R Pal v GMC. As time went on, low and behold, I found them representing Doncaster NHS Trust against me. The readers may wish to come to their own conclusion on the issue of prior information on a client. Beachcroft represents a lot of clients - one of them used

THE RUNNING MAN
2007-02-20 11:45:00
The GMC Case Examiners making a sharp harp exitIn the spirit of the new trasparency motto, the Case Examiners continue to hide themselves behind the skirts of the great drag queen - The General Medical Council. They now also refuse to sign a statement of truth for the decision made in the Griffiths case . So now we seek to postulate who the case examiners in this case are. The case examiners ( or otherwise in the old days known as the screeners) are senior members of the GMC. This is the form they now complete and this is the realistic prospect test. If you have been involved with the GMC ( as a complainant or a doctor), you can seek this information under the Freedom of Information Act or Data Protection Act by emailing mellen@gmc-uk.org. We therefore begin the short list who the GMC hired to make the decision on Griffiths. Its one of these people. The list below shows members' full names, qualifications and route to membership of the Council. Lay members are appointed by the Privy

THE TROUBLE WITH MRSA ACTION UK?
2007-02-19 17:01:00
Rumour has it that MRSA Action UK are allegedly forging alliances with arch Legal Guppies Anthony Collins Solicitors. Christian firm and bible swallower Anthony Collins and his team of merry men had a little spat with us many moons ago. Yes, we all remember Anthony Collins Solicitors as if it was yesterday. We had a article on NHS Exposed with the ABBA song " Money Money Money" swirling out the internet speakers. That was a long long time ago. Memories never die :).Anthony Collins and his Merry Men used to represent arch big wig Lord Shaftesbury. Why pray is this important? Well, long long ago and far far away, we featured a story about Stephen Hill, a disabled gentleman who died in one of Lord Shaftesbury's Homes. Lord Shafesbury's name was not featured in the media until NHS Exposed came on the scene. Yep, we went where no other newspaper would dare to go. We decided to name and shame them all. Stephen Hill's story is featured here . Yes, instead of calling an ambulance the nurse

SECRETS, LIES AND TRANSCRIPT TAPES
2007-02-18 11:34:00
Back in Salem Leicestershire The psychiatrists were shocked to discover that they were not actually God. Dr Gaius Davies (third from the left) in his frilly neck tie frantically phoned 999GOD only to find his call had been redirected to the GMC ( 666GMC) Well someone had to do it one day. Lisa Blakemore Brown has certainly been the talk of the town as have the British Psychological Society, a typically English organisation with a closet filled with a ton of skeletons. The BPS recently threatened Lisa with court proceedings if material in the transcripts was to " get out". Yes, indeedy, it has now got out. Click here to read the transcripts. Note that someone let the GMC assessors out of their cage at 12 midnight to go and cause havoc at some other regulatory body. Appearing in full technicolour are the characters who are currently attempting to dicipher what mental illness a lady who has no mental illness has. Anyone wishing to hire these men would be advised to think again. Fitted

FAT DOCTORS GUIDE TO A THIN WORLD
2007-02-18 02:43:00
"Listen Hewitt, as a member of the Cabinet, I deserve this knee operation" Yes, I have a gripe. Yes, I am fat. Yes, I like chocolate and yes I am as fit as an ox and can keep up with all my thinified counterparts. Yes, I also sport bigger boobs than the rest of my colleagues and am modest. At this point according to the world, I am supposed to cower and hide because I am not thin. Well, lets just take a look at this issue - I have not had a shortage of admirers ( most unworthy) and I tend to lead a relatively normal life. No alcohol, no smoking but yes I do have a thing for chocolates. Recently, especially in the last year, I have heard the Department of Health whinging about how fat people, smokers and everyone who has ever been naughty cannot have operations or treatments. It is interesting to note the morbidity of patients within these groups. This means that no one is going to be operated on as the diseases are more common in these groups. So, are we going to have empty theatres?I

THE GMC SCREENER
2007-02-16 14:20:00
"GMC Screener with his face redacted" GMC Screener Incognito on a "Discreet Inquiry" I have always had a firm belief that the GMC styles itself on a drag queen. They have so much makeup on that its difficult to see the material underneath. In line with that thought, since the year 2000, I have always asked the GMC for the identities of screeners involved within my case(s). The GMC have always been reluctant with their disclosure. Instead of allowing the screeners to come forward in full drag makeup, the GMC often decide to conceal their identities. Despite slapped wrists from superwig himself High Court Judge Harris HHJ, the GMC continue their behaviour patterns. The superwig was shocked that the GMC would not allow disclosure of their screeners. The GMC Screeners as a species appear to be untrained, unclear on the facts of the case and are often careless. I know this because I have won two presidential reviews on two separate screening decisions on different issues. As James Landon oft

YOUNG AT HEART
2007-02-15 00:02:00
I read the Telegraph article with some amusement. In the year 2000, I wrote a letter to the General Medical Council specifying my concerns related to the ageist attitudes in the NHS. Anyhow, the GMC's response to that was " ha, she is mad". So off they went on a limb to investigate my mental health - discreetly of course. 6 years later we have a study proving I was right. So, here we are, lets get it straight - I raised the issue of DNRs, the issue of involuntary euthanasia and the issue of ageism. Of course, they all laughed and cackled gleeful that they would shove me in the health committee so I would never see the light of day. Anyhow, GMC - I was right and you were wrong - AGAIN. Yes, but we all forget the young whistleblowing doctor and pretent that whistleblower does not exist :)http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/02/14/nold14.xml&DCMP=EMC-new_14022007Shock as doctors admit to ageismBy Celia Hall, Medical EditorLast Updated: 2:42am GMT 14/02/2007Your v

LIVE AND LET DIE
2007-02-13 19:44:00
Cause that will be the day when I die ( Buddy Holly) This debate arises every year. The problem with quoting research is this - no one really knows what its like the real medical world. Of course, there is me bashing on about the inside world of doctorhood and very few people pay much attention - well they probably do when its too late. There is nothing wrong with legalizing voluntary euthanasia as long as it can be done properly. The NHS though is a sprawling institution where on occasion rules are actually followed and this can never be done properly or in a controlled manner. Brunel University mentioned below only touched the surface of what actually goes on. The problem with legalising voluntary euthanasia is that doctors and nurses will assume that it provides them with a licence to kill. Actually, a lot of medical professionals assume it does anyway. Its not that they all go and kill people - not at all. Its more covert than that - its more the lack of care, prevention of operat

THE MAN FROM DELMONTE, HE SAY NO
2007-02-12 19:56:00
Finlay Scott disguised in his best farmer's gear rushing to hide all the whistle blowers in his bunny vac before anyone notices they are missing from the NHS."Graeme, just smile for the cameras, don't worry, no one will notice that interview with Jeremy Paxman on News night. Remember - just pretend everything is ok. We have our PR men to do the rest".Paul Philip is an interesting GMC man. We met him at mediation in R Pal v GMC. We all called him "snake eyes". Seriously, the man does not blink for ages and ages. I sat at the table opposite and I thought " Gee, he is one weird bloke".He also denies everything with such conviction. Paul is head of Fitness to Practise at the GMC the place that has been dying to get me struck off for one reason or another. In the old days, they would take up complaints at the drop of a hat about me - all for what I had written about them, about the NHS and about my view of the world. Just to say that there is no love lost between the GMC and me. Do I car

THE TREASURE CHEST
2007-02-12 16:07:00
THE TREASURE CHEST BY RITA PAL In memory of the General Medical Council's recent guidance on medical students I felt it was important to outline my adventures at medical school. It is also vital to understand that most medical students drank huge amounts of alcohol and smoked cannabis. That was the impression at most of the parties anyway. The more interesting tale concerns a friend of mine Joe Desaram otherwise known as Joe 90.Throughout my medical school years at University College London, I had the pleasure of meeting some very famous people. Mr Chris Eubank had interrupted my examination of an orthopaedic patient with his entourage and the patient had got distracted with his PA. I had to present the case by my observation of the patient walking towards Mr Eubank and asking for his autograph. The patient escaped from his bed on the day of my exam and was distracted by the little blonde PA. Then there was the furore at University College Hospital when Princess Diana came to visit. T

Hemming's Way - The Knight Of Yardley
2007-02-12 00:16:00
Picture courtesy of John Hemming blog Penny Mellor's knight in shining armour had gone slightly rusty by the time I got to question him. John ( as he is known to Mellor) has a excellent blog. He discusses various issues and also writes his questions in parliament down. Of course, that's all I see them do - ask questions. Nothing seems to make a difference in real life. All my patients are still underfunded. Life is difficult for them from day to day and all we have is a list of questions. My sick patients have problems getting benefits, problems living day to day and yes I am the one to sort all that out. I don't have any knight of an MP coming to rescue these patients - while John is out saving the MSBP crowd let him pay some attention to those who are mentally ill, severely underfunded and suffering due to this government. Ah, but they don't attract the column inches that Southall does. No siree. Sure, John is intelligent enough and probably more intelligent than me but how const

GMC's LEGAL COSTS

R Pal ( and PC Pal) v GMC ( 2003-2005) :)GMC solicitors charges are £100 for breathing, £250 for writing one email, £600 for eating lunch, £500 for a nose itch, £100 for lifting a FFW pen and even after all those huge charges - they are still unable to win in court. The GMC as a charity refused to donate to the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund when asked to do so in 2003 ( at the start of the case).1/3 x 6million = ??? at £250 +++ per hour - FFW rates.Legal costs force £6m GMC deficitFrom HOSPITAL DOCTORThe GMC will be forced to dip into its financial reserves next year to cover a £6m predicted deficit which has resulted from rapidly rising legal costs. In the 2006-07 budget, the resources committee predicts that the regulator will generate £70.1m but will fork out £76.4m of which almost a fifth (£13.7m) will be spent on legal costs. The GMC also said it now expects the 2005-06 legal spend to be £14m - a whopping 69 per cent higher than initially predicted. The increase in fees is

Firstly our apologies for being off line for what seems a century. The NHS Exposed webmaster James Landon disappeared under his computers for almost a month apparently revamping his hutch. PROFESSOR GRIFFITHS CBE
2007-02-09 08:32:00
The problem with the GMC is that they play the establishment game. They also assume that simply because we are minions and people without a CBE, OBE and DBE, we are less intelligent than they are. This week I was given the judgment of Professor Griffiths assessment at the GMC. Well, it was an expected disappointment. One that sealed the fact for me that the GMC had made no improvements in their systems and their secretive screeners were just as incompetent as ever. My main complaints were 1. That he had lied to the GMC regarding the findings on Ward 87 North Staffordshire NHS Trust2. That he had mishandled a audit thereby making the results inaccurate. 3. That he had smeared my character with the sole purpose of discrediting anything I had to say. 4. That he contiued to mislead the GMC and because he had a CBE they would take his word as gospel. I was afterall a junior doctor at the time. He did what Professor's do - covered up for his colleague Professor Temple. The language used here

VOTED IN THE BEST 50 WEBSITES
2007-02-05 01:52:00
Sure, we decided to crow about it. And why not? We all worked really hard for many patients and their families over many years and were ignored by the mass media who sniffed the morning air at us. We go where other publications don't! NHS Webmaster and the rest decided to hot foot it down to ASDA to celebrate with their usual cream cake. The rest told us that we could do better ( spoil sports). I on the other hand decided it was time to crow to all those people who hate us and who told us we were " just another little Internet site on the web". Having crowed to Richard Smith ex editor of the BMJ and a few other people ( just to make them feel a bit eeeky), I decided to get down to Frankie and Bennys and defy my controlling 14 year old niece to drink 4 cocktails. The world looked a little better after that. Thankgod it was a weekend. It was then time to try and write out my Halle Berry speech. So here goes " We would like to thank, the goldfishes, our parents, the relevant dogs, the

Lives Ruined as NHS Leaks Patient Notes
2007-02-05 01:49:00
Lives ruined as NHS leaks patients' notesAnthony Browne, Health EditorSunday June 25, 2000Patients' lives are being ruined because of growing disregard for confidentiality. Medical records, detailing their most intimate and embarrassing secrets, are increasingly being passed around without their consent.Doctors warn that scandalous abuse of records is now routine in the NHS, with dozens of different people in health authorities, local councils, universities, drug companies and medical schools being given access to confidential data. Doctors fear that patients would stop confiding in their GPs if they knew how many people would see their medical secrets. The Royal College of General Practitioners is so alarmed it is set to issue a warning. In an internal briefing seen by The Observer, the chair of the ethics committee, Dr Iona Heath, declared: 'From a position of having been the guardians of confidentiality, medicine has now fallen far behind the highest standards, and routine practic

Elderly Helped to Die to Clear beds
2007-02-05 01:43:00
Sure, I was young naive and impressionable. I believed that the media exposed the truth. I was to find out that the Sunday Times deserted me after the repercussions occurred following this article. I met these two journalists in a seedy hotel room in Stoke on Trent. They interviewed me for hours on end. Obsessed with diamorphine, they forced me to tell me tales of diamorphine use. This story was actually about short staffing and underfunding but manipulated by the media into the implication that there are Shipmans everywhere. These are isolated incidents and some of my experiences but this does not by any means represent the NHS as a whole. Following this article the DNR policy was changed by the government. A further correction to this article is that I remained in medicine then specialised and did not become a lawyer ( thankgod!)Elderly are helped to die to clear beds, claims doctorThe Sunday Times, 2nd April 2000Mark Macaskill and Jon Ungoed-ThomasTHE callous treatment of the elde

"DEVIL WEARS TOP SHOP" LOOKS AT PENNY MELLOR
2007-02-04 14:05:00
Well known activist and the house wife's fashion icon was put to the test this week by our resident fashion expert " DEVIL WEARS TOP SHOP". As fans of Ugly Betty the new hit show on channel 4 on Fashion, we decided to consult our babes in the fashion world for a critique on our new catwalk queen Penny Mellor. We were not told whether Tom Cruise fellow scientologist was there to hold her award or whether she had enlisted Mr Devlin or Mr King. Rumour has it that the two men were two busy holding her sleeves up. There was also no information whether our Penny did a Halle Berry when receiving her award. She was apparently taken home by " Men in Black".Devil Wears Top Shop speaks.....Where to begin on what she is wearing is the question really. Let me start at the hair. This is an award ceremony right? Yet she has more of a just-popping-down-to-the-corner-shop hair (or worse). Basically, it looks like she hasn't put any effort in (not in that good effortless way that some people can pull

Penny Mellor was honoured by Scientology CCHR ( Citizen's Commission of Human Rights) Awards Presentation". Scientology's website states "Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths". Amongst Penny's achievements are the fact that all regulatory bodies have always listened to what she has to say. This is of course in comparison to numerous medical whistleblowers who despite their scientific background are ignored until many years later. Most notably, the investigations done by the regulatory bodies into her concerns seem slipshod, more of a knee jerk reaction to " he who shouts the loudest". Roy Meadow, Professor Southall and Lisa Blakemore Brown have all been stuck with their regulatory bodies for sometime now - almost decades. Their lives have been ruined and most have to face one hearing after another. We wish to investigate t

BACK AT GMC TOWERS
2007-03-06 13:46:00
What do you mean Finlay asked me sing" I feel Pretty Oh So Pretty, I feel pretty and witty today"? Well, alright, as long as he sings the chorus. Given the General Medical Council's bizarre sense of logic and decision making in the case of Professor Griffiths, I decided to see whether Professor Catto was willing to sign a statement basically outlining what their decision meant in this world. The GMC decision on Professor Griffith's concealment of the two reports outlining the failures on Ward 87 and his slipshod approach to research ( already established in the BMJ regarding the Griffiths Report) can be found here - GMC In the Dock . I thank Professor Catto for initially criticising the case examiners the first time this case approached them leading me to win the first Presidential Review at the GMC. The shipshod approach to these cases can be observed simply when you consider this issue. I am currently waiting for Professor Catto to sign the statement formulated by me below. Let

HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME
2007-03-09 18:28:00
According to a study at University Teeside, now fat women are a burden on the NHS. In all my time hovering around the NHS, I have never seen a thin pregnant woman. The danger of course of running research like this is simply this - instead of allowing mothers to have healthy lives, women will now seek to diet during their pregnancy which is unhealthy for them and their child. So basically, as a fat doctor, I cannot have a knee operation. If my heart had problems, I would be chucked out on the carpark with a DIY angioplasty kit and now if I got pregnant ( perish the thought) I would have to go into labour at home and deliver the baby myself. Half of the men and a third of the women in England are overweight. This means one has to look like Elle Mcpherson to even get a doctor to treat you. Given this clear message in the media, I wonder how high the level of anorexia is or the level of depression as a consequence of how mother's view their bodies. Lets look at all the effects of an ea

ITS CHOCOLATE TIME
2007-03-11 00:22:00
During the R Pal v General Medical Council case which incidentally gave us both a score of 1:0, I landed in court having eaten what seems mountains of chocolate. Richard Price my then solicitor had done the same. Infact, even Robert Jay's hair had been thinning as I was starting to fray at the edges. Over the last few years since 2004, I have had three years to recover from my addiction to chocolate. I never drink. I never smoke but the GMC had driven me to buy cadburys and on the day of the hearing, it was Belgian. Its Saturday today and life is tending towards the same way. I am getting ready to judicially review the GMC. I am also going cross eyed reading the extremely boring Shipman Inquiry, the endless documents produced by the GMC. I keep thinking of how many trees died with all this production of paper. The worst thing about the Shipman Inquiry is that you can never find the bit that you need without at least 2 hours of searching. Much like a sad sod, this is now the 12th hour

THE TROUBLE WITH DAME JANET SMITH
2007-03-10 10:50:00
Staffordshire Police had failed to notice that the hospital had pulled a fast one on them. The Whistleblowing Section of the Shipman Inquiry is an interesting section. While Steve Bolsin did a huge amount to raise the problems with whistleblowing in the NHS, the Shipman Report simply spoke to the wrong people. Did anyone listen to Steve? That is my question. I as a whistleblower attempting to raise the real concerns and problems have found that each and every person ignores the findings of these inquiries. They exist on internet sites, no one reads them anymore. Most Trusts have ensured gagging clauses to beat their staff up by paper should any matters be leaked to the press. Here am I with not one but two reports to the minimal data I ran out of North Staffordshire NHS Trust with and no one wishes to do any wider range studies on broader data. I have probably a three days worth of data because it is relatively impossible for a whistleblower to know they are about to whistleblow and se

WHISTLEBLOWING OVER THE RAINBOW
2007-03-12 11:13:00
Look George. they forgot to put a workable zip over the whistleblower's mouth. Zippy kept passing the letters back to Bungle ( known to us adults as North Staffordshire NHS Bust). Rod, Jackie and Catto sat on the report and pretended it wasn't there. We all shouted "Its behnd you". Rod Jackie and Catto played with the new Lego obtained with the increases in doctors subs at the GMC. My hypothesis here is this - can whistleblowers see the entire report into the concerns they once whistleblew on. The NHS apparently believes in transparency and a no blame culture. Of course this is only when it is convenient to them. Transparency only goes so far. To fill everyone in on the Dynasty like adventures. In the year 2004, I discovered that there was a report backing my whistleblowing concerns on ward 87 that had been hidden by the fools at North Staffordshire NHS Trust. I initially, hopped on the legal bandwagon with libel 1 in tow given the nasty comments made about me being responsible for
