Those from India were welcomed as opposed to thrown out of the NHS as they are now. Rumours flew around the medical profession about how a number of whistleblowers demanded answers from the panel as to why their careers were in tatters. The infamous BMA ethics team wrote a piece on whistle blowing in the BMJ called " would you blow the whistle". When Harold Shipman happened Mr Ian Bogle of the BMA told the BBC the following "It is important that the government and the medical profession move quickly to reassure the public about the high quality of care delivered by the vast majority of doctors in this country". I said " Everytime we threaten legal action against the GMC the GMC finds a complaint against me".During the time of R Pal v GMC, the manufactured the complaint from Doctors.net.uk. A complaint by Dr Tim Woodman was made to the GMC in the hope this would dissuade me from litigating against them. EYE OF THE TIGER 2007-04-22 12:12:00 The vast majority of queries through my email box and phone is what I do to keep going. I know a of a lot of junior doctors who find themselves in a predicament where Trusts, deans, the Department of Health and everyone have let them down. On the flip side of the coin, there are patients and their relatives who are lost in a system designed to ensure they fail. The feeling is much like being sandbagged and having no where to turn to. We have all been there (even I have) but the most important issue is to start deflecting the amount you suffer into other things. The process of rehabilitation is extremely long. Completely out of touch with reality, they have a strange view of what patient care is. Actually, patient care does not enter into the question of cutbacks+death = Money plus Money. That was the equation I once wrote up on a deskpad while I was using one of the managers desks. The difference between patient care and us doctors is the buck stops with us. Managers are allowed to flout regulations, instigate severe cutbacks. They are not held accountable by anyone. There is a species of person that becomes an NHS manager. Firstly, I am sure they live for money, budgets and balance sheets. Secondly, patient care is shoved way below ground level in priorities. Their salaries are huge. A bit like the legal profession. Indeed, the public have always held the concept that all doctors have never suffered unemployment. The issue of course is this, a GMC investigation ( whether you are guilty or innocent) most of the time presents the view to people that there is some merit to the complaint raised. It is the GMC afterall. The point though is this - we know the GMC is an incompetent organisation and its broader powers extend into a doctor's personal life. For instance, a Trust finding out that a doctor under is under investigation will gossip about it everywhere. Its a bit like the first day of excitement in their boring lives. This gossip spreads and before you know it, the complaint may be thrown out but in the eyes of the Trust or anyone else there is always an element of doubt.
